Asia Argento Says Anthony Bourdain Paid Off Her Rape Accuser

Asia Argento has broken her silence when it comes to this week’s very troubling accusation that she sexually assaulted an actor named Jimmy Bennett.

First, she strongly denies this allegation.

Second, she says that Anthony Bourdain actually played a major role in the disturbing and confusing story.

On Monday morning, The New York Times published a lengthy article in which it outlined how Argento paid Bennett $ 380,000 last year, ostensibly to settle the claim of rape he made against her out of court.

Based on legal documents, the newspaper described Bennett’s accusation in painstaking detail:

On May 9, 2013, when Argento was 37 years old and Bennett (an actor who had starred as her son in a 2004 film) was 17 years old, the two met at a Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey, California.

Inside this room, Bennett alleges, Argento plied him with alcohol… performed oral sex on him … and then had sexual intercourse with him.

The allegation would be troubling under any circumstance, but Argento was one of the first women to accuse movie producer Harvey Weinstein of rape.

Right around the time she was going public with her grisly interactions with Weinstein, Argento was paying off Bennett for his silence.

This situation is not being denied by Argento.

But in her first comments since the assault charges came to light, she the Italian actress has vehemently proclaimed her innocence — and attempted to explain just why she gave Bennett all that money.

“I strongly deny and oppose the contents of the New York Times article…as circulated also in national and international news,” a statement from her agent said.

“I am deeply shocked and hurt by having read news that is absolutely false.

“I have never had any sexual relationship with Bennett.”

Asia Argento1

Argento goes on to detail the circumstances surrounding her relationship with Bennett; both of their lives at the time; and the role Bourdain played in this scandalous incident:

I was linked to him during several years by friendship only, which ended when, subsequent to my exposure in the Weinstein case, Bennett – who was then undergoing severe economic problems and who had previously taken legal actions against his own family requesting millions in damages – unexpectedly made an exorbitant request of money from me.

Bennett knew my boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, was of great perceived wealth and had his own reputation as a beloved public figure to protect.

Argento was dating Bourdain when the famous chef and author committed suicide several weeks ago.

She goes on to say that Bourdain was the one who pushed to make this $ 380,000 payment in order to keep the accusation out of the news, writing:

Antony [sic] insisted the matter be handled privately and this was also what Bennett wanted.

Anthony was afraid of the possible negativity that such person, whom he considered dangerous, could have brought upon us. We decided to deal compassionately with Bennett’s demand for help and give it to him.

Anthony personally undertook to help Bennett economically, upon the condition that we would no longer suffer any further intrusions into our life.

Asia Argento2

Here is how Argento concludes her statement:

This is, therefore, the umpteeth development of a sequence of events that brings me great sadness and that constitutes a long-standing persecution.

I have therefore no other choice but to oppose such false allegation and will assume in the short term and all necessary initiatives for my protection before all competent venues.

We can’t say we saw this twist coming, that Argento would admit to the payout, deny the assault and claim Bourdain was actually the person who insisted on shoving the allegation under the carpet.

Bourdain, of course, is sadly not around to state his side of this story.

Considering the sensitive nature of this accusation, we’re not about to take sides ourselves here.

We’ll just report the facts and the statements as we know them and as we’ve read them and we’ll let our readers make up their own minds.

Do you believe what Argento is saying here?

Anthony Bourdain Estate Plans Revealed: Who Will Inherit His Fortune?

It’s been one month since the death of Anthony Bourdain, and the food world is still reeling from the loss of arguably its best-known and most-beloved figure.

But while millions may have felt that they knew Bourdain personally, no one has been more affected by his tragic suicide than the small inner circle that included his girlfriend, Asia Argento, and his beloved 11-year-old daughter Ariane.

Despite finding fame later in life, Bourdain amassed a sizable fortune during his two decades in the public eye.

While the total of his cash savings might not be as high as fans would expect, Bourdain’s properties and other assets ensure that Ariane and his other loved ones will not be left wanting in their time of grief.

According to The New York Daily News, Ariane will inherit the vast majority of her father’s $ 1.2 million estate.

The paper reports that Bourdain had $ 425,000 in savings and cash at the time of his death.

He also had $ 35,000 in brokerage funds, $ 250,000 in personal property and another $ 500,000 in “intangible property including royalties and residuals.”

Most of that will now pass to Ariane, with her mother, Bourdain’s estranged second wife Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, serving as executor of the estate for as long as Ariane is a minor.

Bourdain also had a $ 1.1 million mortgage, but the exact location of the property was not revealed in his will.

Strangely, if Ariane were to die, the estate would pass not to her mother, but to her nanny, a woman named Myra Quizon.

Bourdain skyrocketed to fame at the age of 44 with the publication of his bestselling memoir, Kitchen Confidential.

He later revealed that at the time the book was written, he was massively in debt and had never even had a savings account.

The surprise success of Kitchen Confidential made Bourdain a household name virtually overnight and resulted numerous lucrative media deals.

(The book was even adapted into a short-lived sitcom starring a young Bradley Cooper as an irascible chef named Jack Bourdain.)

In the years that followed, Bourdain would host multiple popular television series and publish 10 more books, ranging from travelogues to graphic novels.

In the weeks after his death, several of Bourdain’s best-loved works re-entered the bestseller list.

While Bourdain might be best remembered as a TV personality, he’s always stated that he felt he was better suited to the less glamorous worlds of cooking and writing.

It’s a testament to how well he spent his tragically foreshortened life that Bourdain earned the respect of fans and colleagues alike in so many widely varied ventures.

His daughter may not have had much time with her father, but fans can take some solace in the fact that she’ll be well provided for.

Anthony Bourdain Toxicology Report: What Does It Reveal?

We have an update on the tragic suicide of Anthony Bourdain.

The celebrity chef and author, as you likely know by now, was hanged himself in his hotel room in Kaysersberg, France on June 8.

He was in the country filming an upcoming episode of CNN’s Parts Unknown at the time and his corpse was discovered by his close friend, French-born chef Eric Ripert.

Bourdain left behind one daughter and was 61 years old.

With the entertainment and culinary world still in mourning over this shocking development, a new and critical piece of information has been made official.

A completed toxicology report for Bourdain has revealed that he had no narcotics in his system at the time of his death, a French judicial official told the New York Times on Friday afternoon.

The report states that the only thing found in the Peabody Award winner’s body was a trace of a non-narcotic medicine in a therapeutic dose.

Will this be comforting to those who knew Bourdain best? It’s hard to say.

On one hand, it may be helpful to know that he didn’t take his life due to some sort of drug-induced impulse.

On the other hand, this basically means he truly, legitimately, consciously wanted to die.

Earlier this week, Bourdain’s body was cremated in France, with this same newspaper writing that his remains and travel belongings were sent to Christopher, his younger brother and only sibling.

“He would want as little fuss as possible,” Bourdain’s mother, Gladys, said, adding that Bourdain’s relatives will likely gather together for a smaller, more private ceremony of their own at some point.

Gladys had previously revealed that she learned of Anthony’s death via a phone call from Christopher.

The late star had been open over the years about his history with substance abuse.

In the 1980s, Bourdain went from job to job at restaurants in New York City while struggling with a serious drug addiction, at one point even skimming his carpet for paint chips and smoking them, hoping they were remnants of crack, he told The New Yorker in a famous profile.

Bourdain entered rehab and eventually got clean in the early 1990s, yet continued to drink alcohol both on and off screen with no issues, he said.

“I was a heroin addict, for sure, and I was a cocaine addict, for sure, but I never stopped drinking,” he told People Magazine just this past February, adding:

“I never was a person who needed a drink. I’ve never felt the urge to. When I’m home it would never occur to me to sit at my house and drink beer, or pour myself a cocktail.”

Bourdain is survived by his girlfriend, Asia Argento, and his 11-year-old daughter, Ariane, whom he shared with his first ex-wife, Ottavia Busia.

Both Argento and Busia have issued statements in the wake of Bourdain’s suicide.

“Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did,” said Asia on Twitter, concluding:

“His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated.

“My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.”

Anthony Bourdain: How Did His Mother Learn of His Suicide?

Gladys Bourdain called in to The Today Show this week.

The mother of Anthony Bourdain opened up in this back-and-forth about how she learned of her son"s tragic suicide, while describing the celebrity chef and author as "feisty and very talented," as well as someone who was a "lover of people of all kinds."

As previously detailed across the Internet, Bourdain committed suicide last Friday by hanging.

His body was discovered in the bathroom of his French hotel room by close friend Eric Ripert.

Since this awful news went public, numerous celebrities, loved ones and colleagues have released statement of sympathy, shock and sorrow in regard to Bourdain.

But there"s understandably something extra troubling and depressing when hearing from Bourdain"s mother.

Gladys says that she learned of her son"s death from his younger brother, Christopher.

She told Today she had last heard from Bourdain on Mother"s Day.

Were there any signs at all that anything was wrong? Any signs she could see of anything like this coming?

"Not a one," she replied.

Bourdain, who truly made it big on television in 2005 with the series "No Reservations," was open over the years about his drug addiction and his past debt issues.

The Kitchen Confidential author and "Parts Unknown" host had spoken candidly about his past struggles in various interviews.

"He didn"t disguise anything or take on any act of persona,"" Gladys said on Today, explaining how his on-screen personality reflected his off-screen demeanor:

"He was who he was, and it was out there for everyone to see."

Following Bourdain"s passing, girlfriend Asia Argento released a statement in which she referred to him as her "love," saying in full:

Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did.

His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated.

My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.

Anderson Cooper Fights Back Tears as He Honors Anthony Bourdain

Anderson Cooper is famous for his infectious laugh. At the same time, when he grieves, audiences cannot help but grieve with him.

Last week, Anthony Bourdain died of suicide. Like so many, Anderson Cooper used this platform to honor his late friend.

We"ve included the video. It is a beautiful tribute to a man who touched so many lives.

Anderson cooper and anthony bourdain

on his show"s dedication, Anderson Cooper speaks, and he is clearly still processing this heartbreaking news.

"Many of you, like many of us, are feeling a whole range of emotions: shock, sadness, confusion that a man who was seemingly having the ride of his life in the middle of his life has now suddenly reached the end of his life."

Folks, celebrities are real people, and they are left just as stunned and wounded from a sudden loss as anyone else.

"It"s hard to imagine he"s gone."

Anderson waxes poetic a little, but it"s very appropriate under the circumstances.

"[It"s] hard to imagine that he"s not just off on some far away journey, hard to imagine that he"ll not return with new stories to tell, new foods to share."

Anthony Bourdain went on many trips abroad, to sample new food and the accompanying cultures.

That is just not the case this time.

Anthony bourdain snapshot

Anderson Cooper clearly struggles, getting repeatedly choked up, as he discusses his departed friend.

"Honestly, talking about him in the past tense it"s, it"s really — yeah, it"s really hard to — hard to imagine."

Heartbreaking.

"Anthony loved drinking and eating, tasting the delights of the world immersing himself in other cultures and countries — bringing the rest of us along on his journey."

And through that, Anthony was able to expose countless Americans to unfamiliar cultures and to educate so many that something being different did not mean that it was frightening or bad.

"It"s impossible from the outside to every fully know what goes on in someone else"s heart or in their head."

Many people who struggle with suicidal depression are able to hide their symptoms.

"It"s impossible to fathom how quickly one"s life can change."

Or how quickly one"s life can come to an abrupt end.

Bourdain

Anderson Cooper, whose own brother committed suicide at 23, has tremendous empathy for Anthony Bourdain.

"But certainly, you know, the pain he must have been feeling, at least in that moment or in those moments, and the loneliness he must be feeling."

Millions are grieving this loss.

"It’s just terribly sad to think about."

Not just the loss, but the hidden pain and turmoil that must have led up to it.

"And makes me very sad for him to have — to have a succumbed to that."

Anderson discusses the impact that Anthony had on his life.

"He gave me hope for what one’s life can become, can be at 61."

Anthony bourdain smiles

Many of the moments that Anderson Cooper"s segment shares feature him and Anthony as they had appeared on past specials.

Anderson himself is one of those people who seems to "not like food," which is difficult to imagine. But he"s unlikely to photograph his meals or go out of his way to try new things.

Naturally, his time on camera with Anthony was so often spent trying particularly exotic foods, the kind that might give pause even to someone who loudly and proudly loves food.

This video shows Anderson try blood sausage, a thymus gland (which produces T-cells for the immune system), and even part of an aortic valve.

Anthony explains that he sees accepting food — no matter how strange or even potentially hazardous — to be part of a cultural contract.

In his many journeys abroad — to over 80 countries — he acted as a sort of cultural ambassador, and he brought viewers with him along for the ride.

Some truly monstrous people have tried to shame Anthony Bourdain for his death.

Obviously, someone dying from suicide is being neither selfish nor cowardly. People do not ask for suicidal depression any more than they ask for any illness.

Anthony is remembered by his loved ones, including his 11-year-old daughter.

This is a heartbreaking reminder that suicide can strike anywhere at any time.

Anthony Bourdain: Ex-Wife Speaks Out, Shares Pic of Daughter

Three days after Anthony Bourdain committed suicide, the celebrity chef, author and television host’s ex-wife has spoken out for the first time.

And she’s done so via a photograph of Bourdain’s only child, an 11-year old named Ariane.

In her first post on social media since Bourdain’s stunning death, Ottavia Busia posted a picture of the former couple’s only child with a microphone in her hand at DROM, a music venue in New York City.

Bourdain, who was 61 years old when he took his own life, was married to Busia, an Italian-born Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter, from 2007 until 2016.

She was his second wife.

“Our little girl had her concert today. She was amazing. So strong and brave. She wore the boots you bought her,” Busia captioned the snapshot, pointing out her daughter’s pair of studded black boots on Sunday.

She then concluded with a message directed at Bourdain:

“I hope you are having a good trip, wherever you are.”

Short, simply and beautiful, wouldn’t you say?

In public, Bourdain did not talk a lot about being a father.

But an insider tells People Magazine that he took an immense amount of pride in this role and, of course, in Ariane.

“It was quite evident that Tony was a ‘lighter’ human being around his daughter,” says this source, adding:

“When he spoke about her, his eyes danced. He talked about her constantly.”

Bourdain, of course, was found dead by his close friend Eric Ripert in a hotel room in France late last week.

According to the latest reports on the tragedy, Bourdain used his bathrobe belt to hang himself in the bathroom.

On the personal life front, he had been dating Italian actress Asia Argento.

This is what she Tweeted the day his body was found in France:

Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did. His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds.

He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.

Bourdain was filming an episode of his Peabody Award-winning show Parts Unknown when he chose to end his life.

It’s unclear whether CNN plans to air the episodes of Season 12 that had already been filmed at some point; this feels rather irrelevant at the moment, of course.

Ariane, meanwhile, lived in New York City with her mother.

Bourdain arranged his work schedule so he could always spend at least five days a month with his daughter.

“I do feel I have things to live for,” he actually told People Magazine in February of this year, explaining at the time:

“There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, ‘I’ve had a good run – why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing… jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth."”

However, parenthood gave Bourdain a new perspective on life, he added in this interview, referring to past dark times and saying:

“I don’t know that I would do that today – now that I’m a dad or reasonably happy.”

Those are chilling words to read now, aren’t they?

Let’s just hope Anthony Bourdain has found the peace in death that he could not find in life.

Journalist Slams Anthony Bourdain as "Gaping Assh-le," Gets Savaged on Twitter

The name David Leavitt might not be familiar to you, but there’s a very good chance you’ve seen his awful attempts at humor or insight clogging up your social media feeds.

Many people first became aware of Leavitt when he famously thought the correct way to respond to news of the Manchester bombing that claimed 22 lives was to make jokes at the expense of Ariana Grande.

“MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena,” Leavitt tweeted.

“The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.”

And folks, the rib-ticklers didn’t end there.

In response to criticism, Leavitt decided to keep his “dad-joke night in the Catskills” routine going by tweeting:

“Honestly, for over a year, I thought an Ariana Grande was something you ordered from Starbucks.”

Leavitt was swiftly and rightly roasted to a crisp on that memorable occasion, and while most people would’ve taken their licks and then happily limped back into obscurity, it seems he’s fallen in love with his new career as a professional troll.

As you’ve likely heard by now, the world awoke today to news that beloved chef, writer, and television personality Anthony Bourdain passed away.

It’s difficult to think of an international celebrity who cultivated such an intimate relationship with his fans, and millions are mourning a death that feels more personal than the passing of most public figures.

So leave it to Leavitt to solidify his reputation as the world’s most tone-deaf dumbass by thinking today would be a good day to settle his long-simmering feud with Bourdain.

In the wake of the Manchester incident, Bourdain was one of thousands who pointed out to Leavitt that he’s the very worst kind of person.

“You, sir, are truly a steaming, gaping,” Bourdain tweeted with his trademark candor.

When Anthony Bourdain describes you as a piece of anatomy he wouldn’t eat on the Mekong Delta in front of a camera crew, you know you effed up, and it seems Leavitt really took the insult to heart.

“Selfishly taking your own life and hurting your friends and family makes you the steaming, gaping asshole Anthony Bourdain,” Leavitt tweeted this afternoon.

He then doubled down by

“You don’t go to heaven when you kill yourself. It’s incredibly selfish. Don’t do it,” he tweeted, adding:

If you’re religious, then you believe there’s a special place in hell or purgatory for people like Anthony Bourdain who take their own lives.

Leavitt then attempted to score points on Kate Spade’s suicide, accusing the late designer of courting depression by chasing “material goods and ego boosts.”

After being ratioed within an inch of his life and losing over 1,000 followers in an hour, Leavitt attempted to backtrack and play the old “actually, I’m more affected by this tragedy than you are” card.

“A couple close friends have taken their lives,” he tweeted.

“That’s why I’m opinionated on this.”

It’s hard to know what to say when a life as big and bold as Anthony Bourdain’s ends in such a tragic fashion, so we’ll just encourage you to call the National Suicide Prevention hotline at 1-800-273-8255 if you’re plagued by thoughts of self harm.

Oh, and don’t follow David Leavitt on Twitter.

That’s just sound advice for everyone.
