Kristen Bell Honors Dax Shepard for 14 Years of Sobriety

We’ve heard the parenting stories of Kristen Bell getting anal worms, but we’ve also heard less lighthearted stories, such as Dax Shepard’s struggle with addiction.

He has been sober since 2004, and his beautiful wife Kristen has written a powerful and heartwarming tribute to honor his 14 years of sobriety.

Take a look:

“To the man mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy,” Kristen’s post begins.

She goes on, describing him as the man “who wore a baby Bjorn for 2 straight years to show his girls how to be as adventurous as possible.”

On a sadder note, Kristen says: “Who held our dear little shakey mann pup for 8 hrs straight on the day we had to put him down,”

“I know how much you loved using,” Kristen writes.

“I know how much it got in your way,” she continues. “And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it.”

“I will forever be in awe of your dedication,” Kristen says. “And the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night.”

“You never fail to make amends, or say sorry when its needed,” Kristen says, heaping praise on him.

“You are always available to guide me, and all of our friends,” Kristen continues. “With open ears and tough love when its needed most.”

Kristen writes: “You have become the fertilizer in the garden of our life, encouraging everyone to grow.”

That is really, really beautiful — even if she did kind of just refer to him as manure.

“I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story,” she continues. “But instead shared it widel.”

She explains that he does this “with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves.”

Meaning that he’s not just trying to help others with drug issues, but everyone.

“You have certainly inspired me to do so,” Kristen gushes.

She continues: “I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you.”

“I see how hard you work,” Kristen acknowledges. “You set an excellent example of being human.”

Clearly, in Kristen’s eyes, the only improvement that her husband could make on himself is if he were to become an excellent example of a sloth.

“Happy 14th year sobriety birthday, @daxshepard,” Kristen writes.

She signs off with: “Xoxo.”

In case anyone has somehow forgotten, Kristen was the voice of the titular character on Gossip Girl.

Dax has spoken about his addiction story in the past.

After being molested as a child, he developed a drug habit in his late teens — and says that only about 20% of childhood sex abuse survivors end up not having one addiction or another.

It takes an incredible amount of strength and determination to overcome addiction. Dax’s story is a powerful and inspirational one.

We are so glad that he and his wife were able to get their happily ever after and grow their family.

We hope that his story will continue to inspire others to transform their lives.

Anderson Cooper Fights Back Tears as He Honors Anthony Bourdain

Anderson Cooper is famous for his infectious laugh. At the same time, when he grieves, audiences cannot help but grieve with him.

Last week, Anthony Bourdain died of suicide. Like so many, Anderson Cooper used this platform to honor his late friend.

We"ve included the video. It is a beautiful tribute to a man who touched so many lives.

Anderson cooper and anthony bourdain

on his show"s dedication, Anderson Cooper speaks, and he is clearly still processing this heartbreaking news.

"Many of you, like many of us, are feeling a whole range of emotions: shock, sadness, confusion that a man who was seemingly having the ride of his life in the middle of his life has now suddenly reached the end of his life."

Folks, celebrities are real people, and they are left just as stunned and wounded from a sudden loss as anyone else.

"It"s hard to imagine he"s gone."

Anderson waxes poetic a little, but it"s very appropriate under the circumstances.

"[It"s] hard to imagine that he"s not just off on some far away journey, hard to imagine that he"ll not return with new stories to tell, new foods to share."

Anthony Bourdain went on many trips abroad, to sample new food and the accompanying cultures.

That is just not the case this time.

Anthony bourdain snapshot

Anderson Cooper clearly struggles, getting repeatedly choked up, as he discusses his departed friend.

"Honestly, talking about him in the past tense it"s, it"s really — yeah, it"s really hard to — hard to imagine."

Heartbreaking.

"Anthony loved drinking and eating, tasting the delights of the world immersing himself in other cultures and countries — bringing the rest of us along on his journey."

And through that, Anthony was able to expose countless Americans to unfamiliar cultures and to educate so many that something being different did not mean that it was frightening or bad.

"It"s impossible from the outside to every fully know what goes on in someone else"s heart or in their head."

Many people who struggle with suicidal depression are able to hide their symptoms.

"It"s impossible to fathom how quickly one"s life can change."

Or how quickly one"s life can come to an abrupt end.

Bourdain

Anderson Cooper, whose own brother committed suicide at 23, has tremendous empathy for Anthony Bourdain.

"But certainly, you know, the pain he must have been feeling, at least in that moment or in those moments, and the loneliness he must be feeling."

Millions are grieving this loss.

"It’s just terribly sad to think about."

Not just the loss, but the hidden pain and turmoil that must have led up to it.

"And makes me very sad for him to have — to have a succumbed to that."

Anderson discusses the impact that Anthony had on his life.

"He gave me hope for what one’s life can become, can be at 61."

Anthony bourdain smiles

Many of the moments that Anderson Cooper"s segment shares feature him and Anthony as they had appeared on past specials.

Anderson himself is one of those people who seems to "not like food," which is difficult to imagine. But he"s unlikely to photograph his meals or go out of his way to try new things.

Naturally, his time on camera with Anthony was so often spent trying particularly exotic foods, the kind that might give pause even to someone who loudly and proudly loves food.

This video shows Anderson try blood sausage, a thymus gland (which produces T-cells for the immune system), and even part of an aortic valve.

Anthony explains that he sees accepting food — no matter how strange or even potentially hazardous — to be part of a cultural contract.

In his many journeys abroad — to over 80 countries — he acted as a sort of cultural ambassador, and he brought viewers with him along for the ride.

Some truly monstrous people have tried to shame Anthony Bourdain for his death.

Obviously, someone dying from suicide is being neither selfish nor cowardly. People do not ask for suicidal depression any more than they ask for any illness.

Anthony is remembered by his loved ones, including his 11-year-old daughter.

This is a heartbreaking reminder that suicide can strike anywhere at any time.

If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts, you can always call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

Duggar Family Honors Jubilee Duggar, Forgets Caleb Duggar?

Whether or not Counting On is renewed or canceled, the Duggars will certainly continue to reach out to their fans when they have happy to news to share. But they’ll also have more somber updates.

Yesterday, the Duggars honored their miscarried daughter, Jubilee.

Fans were quick to point out that, inexplicably, the Duggars appeared to have forgotten one of their children altogether.

Jubilee Duggar Headstone

In 2011, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar suffered a loss. Michelle experienced a stillbirth.

They gave Jubilee Shalom Duggar a grave marker (we know that this sort of thing is not for everyone; Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner planted a memorial tree, for example — but everybody grieves in their own way).

In addition, the Duggars honor the life that would have been Jubilee’s every year on what they consider to be her birthday — on December the 11th.

“It’s hard to believe Jubilee would have been 6 years old today.”

Anniversaries like that can hit hard.

“Jubilee is our 20th child who was stillborn.”

We get that this is an emotional subject, but that’s a bad sentence. (We all write bad sentences sometimes; to be clear, they’re not saying that Jubilee was their 20th stillbirth, even though that is technically what that sentence states)

“We so look forward to seeing Jubilee in heaven.”

And on that note, they finish their post in a characteristically religious way.

“In the Bible, King David’s baby died and he stated, ‘I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.’ This is our hope of eternal life, if each one of us repents of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus.”

Many people take comfort from their faith, but their religious message is not the issue that fans are taking with this particular post by the Duggars.

No, fans are taking issue with how the Duggars seemed to, well, forget something pretty important.

Or someone. The sort of someone whom you would think that the Duggars would have remembered and valued.

Because, well, anyone else remember the story of Caleb Duggar?

Caleb was Michelle’s second pregnancy.

Back in 1989, when Jim Bob and Michelle had only had Josh Duggar and were less extreme in at least some of their views, Michelle had a pregnancy that miscarried.

The couple took the miscarriage as a sign that they should discontinue using birth control.

They’ve said that losing Caleb was what started them down the road that led them to have as many children as they could.

And they say that Jubilee would have been their 20th child, not their 21st.

That doesn’t add up. (Literally)

And people noticed. Hardcore fans noticed.

Sure, a lot of the top comments were from people who have also suffered from miscarriages (it’s sad that so many people share that same painful story).

But plenty of Duggar fans had comments about, well, the Duggars’ math:

“Wouldn’t she have been your 21st child? I thought you all lost one between Josh & John/Jana.”

Yep.

“Agreed, I mean I’m a fan but they had a child name Caleb between the twins.”

And the Duggars believe that life begins at conception, so … this is puzzling.

Though there’s a chance that the Duggars are no longer counting Caleb because they didn’t actually know what that child’s sex would have been, we have another theory:

Maybe they were trying to keep things simple.

An emotional loss like a miscarriage isn’t going to make them forget a previous one, but maybe they wanted to avoid having to explain why they might call Jubilee their 21st child.

The last thing that you want when talking about one loss is a bunch of questions asking about another.

That’s our guess, anyway. Because as an oversight, not counting Caleb doesn’t make any sense.

Meadow Walker Honors Late Father, Urges Fans to "DO GOOD"

Paul Walker would have turned 44 years old on Tuesday.

Tragically, of course, the beloved actor was killed in a car crash back in November of 2013.

Never far from the minds of his fans, especially when a new Fast and Furious movie comes out, Walker lost his life in a single-car accident outside of Los Angeles after he lost control of his Porsche and slammed into a tree.

The vehicle exploded and Walker died at the scene.

Meadow Walker was only 15 years old at the time, instantly getting thrust into the spotlight for the most horrific of reasons.

In the time since, Meadow has picked her spots carefully when it comes to speaking out and paying tribute to her dad, such as the instance when she referenced him with a throwback photo and message on Father’s Day.

And now the teenager has done so again.

“In honor of my dad’s birthday today, we’re challenging you to DO GOOD!” Meadow wrote as a caption to the image below, adding:

“Share a video or photo of your random act of kindness and nominate 4 people to join the challenge!

“Be sure to tag the foundation as well as hashtag #PWFdogoodchallenge, so we can check out all of your posts!”

Walked tagged out the late actor’s close friend and Fast and Furious co-star, Vin Diesel, to do the challenge… Diesel responded by sharing his own touching tribute in honor of Walker’s birthday on Tuesday.

Posting a cute flashback photo of Paul holding his daughter Hania on Instagram, Diesel made a point to say she was very “proud” of Meadow.

“Happy birthday Pablo… You have and are still changing the world,” Diesel wrote.

He continued:

“Your love lives through all whom have had the great fortune to know you. Meadow graduated this summer… made us all so proud. She is even building a foundation in your name to help the world.

“Would you believe Cody [Paul’s brother] is in Houston continuing the work you were so passionate about… Remember when we were in Haiti and you asked me what the name should be… and now @reachoutww is realizing the dream.

“All the angels miss you… I miss you.”

It brings a tear to our eye every time Diesel or another former co-star brings up Walker.

The affection they had for him is so clear. There’s nothing fake or forced about these tributes.

Paul Walker really did leave a lasting impression on everyone with whom he came into contact.

May he rest in peace.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to take Meadow’s advice and go do some good in the world.
