Chester Bennington Hog-Tied in Drowning Attempt, Redacted in Autopsy Report

Chester Bennington got extremely drunk, hog-tied himself and threw himself into his swimming pool in a suicide attempt 9 months before he hanged himself — something the L.A. County Coroner knew — yet it was redacted from the autopsy report.…

Chester Bennington: On Drugs at Time of Death? Toxicology Report Confuses Fans

Back in July, the music world was stunned by the news that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington had taken his own life.

Bennington had been open about his struggles with depression and addiction over the years, but friends and family say he showed no outward signs of struggling in the weeks leading up to his death.

Naturally, many questions remain as to what led Bennington to commit suicide on the birthday of his friend Chris Cornell, who had also recently hung himself.

Unfortunately, a toxicology report released this week offers little in the way of answers.

The report reveals that Bennington may have been under the influence of multiple substances at the time of his death.

According to test results obtained by TMZ, Bennington had both alcohol and MDMA in his system

However, the alcohol was detected only in “trace amounts,” and two follow-up tests did not detect any MDMA in Bennington’s system.

Authorities reported finding a bottle of the sleeping medication Zolpidem on Bennington’s dresser, along with an empty beer bottle and a pint glass half-filled with beer.

They also detected pieces of fingernail underneath his iPhone and on a table in his bedroom, but wife Talinda Bennington attributed these findings to a nervous tic of Chester’s.

Needless to say, the reports provide little in the way of closure for Talinda and other loved ones of Chester’s.

At one point, his widow informed authorities that Bennington had attempted to take his own life in 2006 after drinking heavily.

That does seem to be the case here.

The amounts of alcohol found in Bennington’s system were reportedly not enough to have intoxicated a grown man.

The singer was involved in an outpatient rehab program at the time of his death, and one month before his passing, he informed friends that he had been sober for six months.

Those who knew him best will no doubt continue to seek answers, but the fact remains that depression and mental illness are unpredictable and poorly understood.

Tragically, it seems that Bennington simply succumbed to a disease that affects tens of millions of Americans.

Jared Leto Pays Tribute to Chester Bennington, Makes Us Cry

The MTV Video Music Awards turned solemn for a few minutes on Sunday night.

At one point during the event, Jared Leto took to the stage; not to accept any trophies or present any performances, but to honor late Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington.

In mid-July, Bennington killed himself via hanging at the age of 41.

Leto, who is an Academy Award-winning actor but also a member of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, knew Bennington well as a result of his music career.

“Chester was my friend as he was to so many and witnessing his life taught me important things – especially about working relentlessly, pursuing dreams and being kind and caring while doing it,” Leto said on stage, continuing:

"When I think about him, Chester, I see his face which was always smiling.

"I think about his heart which he wore on his sleeve. I think how kindly he treated me, my brother, our band."

It was virtually impossible to watch Leto pay tribute to Bennington without getting choked up.

“I think about his wife and his six, six incredible children," Leto said toward the end of his speech.

"I think about his family, I think about his band who were really his brothers and I remember his voice – at once ferocious and delicate. That voice will live forever.”

To wrap up his tribute, Leto kept his eye on the larger picture.

"If there is anyone else out there who is watching this tonight who feels like there is not hope, hear me now: you are not alone," he said.

"The absolute biggest breakthroughs in life lie just beyond the darkest days."

Amen, Jared.

Very well said all around.

Chester Bennington: Ex-Wife Rages Over "Disgusting" Funeral

It’s hard to believe it’s been … since the music world was stunned by the news that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington had passed away.

Bennington took his own life after years of srtuggling with depression and addiction, leaving behind a wife and six chidren.

The musician was laid to rest in a small private ceremony on July 31.

While all the guests were family and close friends of Bennington’s, not everyone was pleased with the way the ceremony played out.

Chester’s first wife, Samantha Bennington, took to Facebook this week to share her myriad compaints with the funeral in a sternly-worded open letter addressed to Chester’s widow, Talinda.

It seems Samantha felt that she and her children were given short shrift, having been scarcely mentioned durint the ceremony.

On top of that, she says Talinda orchestrated a ceremony that focused entirely on Bennington’s final years, to the exclusion of important parts of his early life, such as his relationship with his parents.

“Thanks for not honoring the one wish my son had by sharing his prayer with his siblings and throwing the rose quarts [sic] into the ocean with him,” Samantha wrote in a lengthy Facebook post.

Samantha went on to slam Talinda for excluding her and her family from the events that followed the funeral, writing:

Thank you for not giving me or my 31 guests any knowledge of we’re the ‘after bowling celebration was.’

“Oh and your phone calls hours later wondering were we were lmfao still never mentioned where to go, name of place or address, it was a disgusting delusional display on all people who spoke at the funeral and their characters.

Samantha went on to accuse Talinda of essentially editing Chester’s life down to the years of his second marriage:

“There were many friends and family that should have been there but when you turn a funeral into reducing someone’s life into only 12 years that’s what you get!” she wrote.

“His parents both were not there (meaning his dad-both parents) mother was there for clarification , and his parents were not mentioned in the program, his siblings were not mentioned, the mothers of his children were not mentioned, even his own children were not listed on the program!”

Samantha concluded her statement in brutal fashion, accusing Chester’s second wife of “capitalizing” on the death of the beloved singer:

“I hope you like capitalizing on his death…karma is rea,” she wrote.

“I send you back all your energy to you a thousand time folds! Look in the mirror, I hope you like what you see. Business is business but I see zero love.”

Fans are divided on the issue, with some saying Samantha was right to speak her mind, and others complaining that it was truly classless to call out a grieving widow in such public fashion.

Whatever the case, the situation makes for a sad addendum to a tragic situation.

Chester Bennington: Go Inside His Funeral, Read a New Tribute

Chester Bennington was laid to rest on Saturday in Rancho Paolo Verdes, California.

According to TMZ, over 200 friends, family members and loved ones turned out to pay tribute one final time to the late Linkin Park singer, who killed himself at the age of 41 this month.

The artist’s body was found hanging in his home by a housekeeper on July 20, prior to another employee dialing 911 to alert the authorities.

There was nothing paramedics could do when they arrived on the scene, however.

All guests at the funeral this weekend were given a yellow wristband and a pass with Bennington’s photograph on it, the sort of admission item VIP fans would receive at a concert.

Austin Carlile – the ex-lead singer of the group Of Mice and Men – shared a picture of the token on Instagram.

As you can see below, the back of the guest pass featured an image of Bennington singing into a crowd that’s illuminated by the light from the cell phones of concert attendees:

“The service today was beautiful. Thank you Linkin Park, thank you Chester. For everything,” Carlile wrote as a caption to the image.

On July 24, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Bennington died of suicide by hanging.

Since then, words of mourning and remembrance have been shared online by countless individuals in the music business.

Late last week, the singer’s grief-stricken widow released her first public statement since Bennington’s passing.

“One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero – their Daddy,” Talinda Bennington wrote, adding:

“How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul? The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left.”

She concluded as follows:

“He was a bright, loving soul with an angel’s voice.

“And now he is pain-free singing his songs in all of our hearts. May God bless us all and help us turn to one another when we are in pain. Chester would’ve wanted us to do so.

“Rest In Peace, my love.”

Bennington joined the Linkin Park in 1999 and the band went on to win two Grammy Awards, while selling over 70 million albums.

In a series of Tweets on Saturday, bass player Dave Phoenix Farrell said goodbye to his close friend.

“It goes without saying, this last week has been extremely difficult,” he wrote.

“The outpouring of love and kindness I’ve received from friends and Fans from all over the world has been incredible.

“I wish I could personally thank every one of you for your love and support…

“A huge part of Chester’s legacy will be the memories we hold of him in our hearts. He was an enthusiastic, playful father…

“An honest, and passionate musician, and a loyal friend. I’ve been touched to see memorials that have been held worldwide.”

nice words

We continue to send our own condolences to Bennington’s family during this impossibly difficult time.

May the singer rest in peace.

Chester Bennington 911 Call: Released, Chilling

In sad, albeit expected news, the Los Angeles Country"s Coroner"s Office has come out and confirmed that Chester Bennington killed himself via hanging.

This official cause of death reflects what authorities have said they discovered at the late Linkin Park singer"s home last Thursday morning, after they responded to a 911 call and discovered Bennington"s corpse.

The artist was only 41 years old at the time of his death.

He had a history of mental illness and substance abuse, along with a past of sexual abuse as a child.

Now, just a few days after Bennington took his own life, the 911 call made on his behalf has been released to the public.

In the following video, we heard the artist"s driver speaking calmly to an operator while Bennington"s housemaid cries and screams in the background.

She"s the one who entered the singer"s home and came across his limp body.

"I just got to the location and his housekeeper came out and said he killed himself … he hung himself," says the driver.

As the driver relays more details on the phone, the housekeeper continues to be heard, crying hysterically as she speaks to Chester’s wife on a different phone.

Linkin Park released an emotional statement honoring their frontman Monday morning, writing on Facebook:

"The demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal … After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place.”

You can read the full statement from the band, which Bennington joined back in 1999, HERE.

Chester is survived by wife Talinda Bennington, their son Tyler and twin daughters Lilly and Lila, as well as his three children from previous relationships.

Chester Bennington: Cause of Death Confirmed

Last week, the music world was stunned by the death of Chester Bennington, the gifted singer and songwriter whose unmistakable vocals helped to make Linkin Park one of the biggest bands of the 2000s.

Sadly, the cause of the 41-year-old’s passing was immediately apparent to authorities.

And today, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Bennington took his own life by hanging.

According to a police report, Bennington was pronounced dead at 9:08 am July 20 Palo Verdes Estates, California.

His body was discovered by a housekeeper who found the singer hanging from a bedroom door.

Though he left no note, it’s widely believed that Bennington mimicked Chris Cornell in his method of suicide.

The Soundgarden singer also took his own life by hanging recently.

The two rock stars were such close friends that Cornell’s widow asked Bennington to sing at his funeral.

It’s likely not a coincidence that Bennington killed himself on what would have been Cornell’s 53rd birthday.

Earlier today, the surviving members of Linkin Park issued a statement expressing their profound grief over Bennington’s passing.

“The demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal … After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place,” the band wrote.

In another statement issued today, Warner Bros. Records CEO, Cameron Strang, wrote:

“Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family, his band-mates and his many friends. All of us at WBR join with millions of grieving fans around the world in saying: we love you Chester and you will be forever missed.”

Strang concluded his statement by urging anyone who might be suffering from thoughts of suicide or self-harm to call .National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Tens of thousands of friends and fans have paid tribute to Bennington in the days since his death.

The beloved singer leaves behind a wife and six children.
