Linkin Park Pens Open Letter to Chester Bennington: Read the Tribute Here
Linkin Park has issued its first public statement since lead singer Chester Bennington committed suicide last week at his home.
As previously reported, following several years of substance abuse and depression, the 41-year old stunned the music community by hanging himself around 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 20.
The frontman for a group that sold over 70 million albums and earned two Grammy Awards, Bennington had talked openly in the past about being sexually abused as a child.
Authorities have said there were no indications at the scene that any drugs were in Bennington’s system, but we’ll need to wait for toxicology reports to be completed before we know for sure.
All we can say at the moment is that, just a couple months after Chris Cornell also hanged himself, the entertainment world has lost another widely respected musician.
On its official Facebook page this morning, Linkin Park penned an open letter to Bennington.
It begins with “Dear Chester” and then it continues as follows:
Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.
You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized. In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world.
Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.
Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing.
We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place.
You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.
Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you.
Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much.
The band signed the letter with “Until we see you again.”
Powerful, moving, heartbreaking stuff.
In addition to this tribute, Linkin Park has set up the website Chester.LinkinPark.com.
It simply features a photo of Bennington in concert, surrounded by the light from thousands of fans’ phones, with the hashtag #RIPCHESTER and the following message…

Chester Bennington Dies; Linkin Park Singer Was 41
Chester Bennington of the rock group Linkin Park has passed away at the age of 41.
TMZ is reporting that the death has been ruled a suicide by hanging.
Bennington’s body was found at his home Thursday morning around 9 am.
At the height of the group’s fame, Linkin Park was one of the most popular acts in music.
The band’s 2000 debut album Hybrid Theory achieved diamond sales status on the strength of such wildly popular singles as “Crawling,” “One Step Closer,” and “In the End.”
Bennington and his bandmates went on to even greater success with their 2003 sophomore effort, Meteora, which remains the most popular album in the history of Billboard‘s alternative chart.
Along with co-frontman Mike Shinoda, Bennington was one of the two voices of Linkin Park.
The band sold an astonishing 70 million albums worldwide and won two Grammy awards.
While details of Bennington’s final hours remain scarce, sources close to the singer note that he has struggled with addiction and depression over the years.
Bennington himself stated that he had considered taking his own life as a result of sexual abuse he suffered as a child.
Bennington was close friends with Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who committed suicide following a performance in Detroit back in May.
Bennington performed at Cornell’s funeral service at the request of the singer’s widow.
As a solo artist, Bennington’s unique vocal stylings made him a sought after collaborator.
Over the course of his 20-year career, Bennington recorded with such artists as Cornell, Jay-Z, Santana, Motley Crue, DJ Z-Trip and Handsome Boy Modeling School.
The singer was known for his ability to cross genres, moving seamlessly between hard rock, hip hop, and electronic music.
Tributes to Bennington from friends and fans began pouring in on social media within minutes of the news of his death going public.
Many encourage those who might be struggling with thoughts of self-harm to contact the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
We would like to add our voice to that chorus and urge anyone who may be considering suicide to call that number immediately.
Chester Bennington is survived by his wife and six children.

Linkin Bridge on America"s Got Talent: Watch and Cheer!
Not so tough, are you, Linkin Bridge?
On Tuesday night"s live episode of America"s Got Talent, these singers from Kentucky actually broke down while being showered with praise by all four judges.
It was the first time the quartet performed live on the NBC competition.
Linkin Bridge made its first strong impression a few weeks ago when they sang “Over The Rainbow” via an a capella arrangement.
They followed that with their take on “Free Bird.”
This time around, inside the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, the group went with "Always On My Mind," a song choice that Simon Cowell didn"t totally agree with.
But that didn"t mean he didn"t have very nice things to say.
"I’m excited right now, because from the first time I saw you, I really, really liked you. And there’s something about you."
This was Howie Mandel"s take on the performance:
“I loved the harmony, I loved the sound. This is so weird as one man looking into the eyes of four men, [but] I only have one thing to say to you directly from my heart: You guys are beautiful.”
And Melanie Brown:
"Your strongest point is your harmonies. The way that your voices blend together, it makes me melt. I loved it. I really did."
Linkin Bridge has to compete with Grace VanderWaal, among others, for the title.
So it won"t be easy.
But the crown could be theirs if they keep pulling out songs such as this:
