Jessa Duggar: Will Josh Duggar Sex Scandals Prevent Her From Adopting?

In a recent interview, Jessa Duggar revealed that she plans to adopt a child with husband Ben Seewald.

The couple already has one child together (Jessa gave birth to son Spurgeon in November.), but they’ve been openly talking about the possibility of expanding their family through adoption since before they got married.

There’s just one problem:

It wasn’t that long ago that Jessa’s family was involved in a shocking child molestation scandal, and even though Jessa was a victim and not a perpetrator, it’s possible that an adoption board might consider the possibility that children raised by the Seewalds may be at greater risk of abuse.

The problem isn’t just that Josh admitted to molesting five young girls (four of whom were his sisters), but also that his family played a role in concealing his crimes from the public and helping him to avoid prosecution.

Jessa famously defended Josh’s actions in an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, and while she may have been left with further choice (and, some would say, further victimized by her family by being coerced into doing the interview) an adoption board may not look kindly on her willingness to rationalize abuse.

The couple hasn’t officially announced that they’ve started the process of becoming parents for a second time, but based on recent comments from Jessa, it sounds as though they may have already begun the proceedings:

“We have many friends who have walked this road, so we have seen firsthand the amazing power of adoption,” Jessa recently told Us Weekly.

“There are so many kids out there who are longing for the love of a family, and we feel strongly about opening our hearts and our home to welcome them in.

“It’s not really about any specific number, but cherishing and loving the ones God brings us – whether that be just one, or whether it be more, we’ll be grateful.”

On a recent episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, the Seewalds visited a Central American orphanage with some of Jill’s siblings.

Some fans believed the episode would end with a surprise adoption announcement, but that did not turn out to be the case.

Adoption boards generally don’t reveal their criteria for selecting qualified families, but ensuring that children are at low risk of physical harm is known to be their number one priority.

Those who watch Jill & Jessa Counting On online know that the Seewalds are kind and loving parents.

But that may not be enough to convince the powers that be that they’re capable of properly protecting another child.

Jill & Jessa Counting On Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: Duggar Family Reunion Time!

On Jill & Jessa Counting On Season 2 Episode 8, in a family reunion setting in Central America, the Duggar girls came together to bond.

In addition to meeting their nephew Spurgeon for the first time, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard reflected on key moments of their relationship.

The reunion in El Salvador featured a visit to a local orphanage, where Jill, Derick, Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald talked adoption.

For now, both married sisters are focused on one biological child each, and Jessa lamented that she’d missed seeing Jill’s son grow.

Jill reminded fans that she and Derrick communicated electronically before even met – and that they first met in Nepal three years ago!

Sounds crazy, but when you know, you know!

Joy-Anna Duggar said she would “probably” travel the world to meet a guy, while Jinger Duggar said that she likely wouldn’t have to.

Hey, there are plenty in Northwest Arkansas.

The group also attended a women’s conference, which Jill said is “something the ministry does every year to make the women feel special.”

Jessa discussed the challenges of life in an impoverished nation, but that just made Jill even more determined to give back and do her part.

At the orphanage, Jessa said she wanted to “gather up an armload” of kids and carry them out – not surprising given her interest in adoption.

Jedidiah, Joy and Josiah all seconded that notion, saying they would be willing to adopt children one day themselves. A noble endeavor!

Then it was flashback time, from the early days when Derick and Ben first met and courted Jill and Jessa, to the birth of their children.

A producer asked Jill and Jessa who would have a second child first, and they both joked that they probably end up pregnant together.

As for reports that Derick got Jill Duggar pregnant with twins … false. Despite Derick’s photo of her. Though these things do change …

Finally, everyone said goodbye again, as the Duggars prepared to head back to the U.S. Izzy kissed “Cousin Spurgie” in a fond farewell.

Jessa gave her older sister and her husband an emotional hug, saying “I know they’re where they’re supposed to be … but it’s tough.”

As for their future, Derick said they are taking it day by day, month by month, and year by year based on what the Lord wants them to do.

Ted Cruz Ends Presidential Campaign, Elbows Wife in the Face

Heidi Cruz, an entire nation now feels your pain.

On Tuesday night, Ted Cruz got trounced by Donald Trump in the Indiana primary, losing that state by 16 percentage points and seeing his chances to win the White House dwindle down to nothing.

Within a couple hours of the results going public, Cruz got up on stage and announced that he was suspending his campaign for the Presidency.

He then smacked his wife in the face with an elbow. Twice.

“With a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign,” Cruz told a throng of supporters in the state he just lost.

“But hear me now, I am not suspending our fight for liberty.”

Cruz’s wife stood supportively by her husband’s side throughout his concession speech, but then this happened once Cruz went in for a hug with a group that included his father:

OUCH!

It’s the second time in a matter of days that Cruz has been at the center of a funny viral moment while out on the campaign.

On Sunday, Carly Fiorina introduced her running mate during a rally in Indiana… only to then fall through the stage and get totally ignored by Lyin’ Hand-Shakin’ Ted:

Of course, about 70% of the county is not laughing at either of these mishaps right now.

That’s because Donald Trump is now the presumptive Republican nominee for the President of the United States.

Let us write that again, for depressing emphasis: Donald Trump is now the presumptive Republican nominee for the President of the United States.

Taking the stage at his headquarters in New York City on Tuesday night after his resounding victory, Trump described Cruz as “one hell of a competitor.”

It remains to be seen, however, whether Cruz will support Trump’s bid for the Oval Office.

And it will be fascinating to see how many Republicans in the House and the Senate respond when asked whether they support Trump as their party’s nominee over the next several weeks.

On the Democratic side of the race, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders was predicted to be the winner in Indiana, edging out former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The two will practically split delegates in the state, though, meaning Sanders’ path to an overall victory is, by his own admission, “narrow.”
