John Oliver On Orlando Shooting: Omar Mateen Is a Terrorist Dipsh*t

Like a lot of us in media, John Oliver has no idea how to properly move forward after Sunday morning"s massacre, which ultimately killed 50 people (including the suspect, Omar Mateen).

Prior to his HBO series, Last Week Tonight, Oliver recorded a statement admitting that “it’s hard to even know what to do in the wake of an event like this."

Oliver prepped his audience for a full show to follow the clip, which, he admitted, "will seem like jarringly inappropriate, "jangly" music."

But first, addressing what happened would be the right thing to do.

“It’s still early and details are still emerging and right now this just hurts,” he said.

“And the worst thing is, this pain is so familiar. In Paris last November, terrorists seemed to target places that symbolize everything that is wonderful about France — culture, music, restaurants.

"And in Orlando early this morning a gunman attacked a Latin night at a gay club in the theme park capital of the world.

"And for the record, I will happily embrace a Latin night at a gay club in the theme park capital of the world as the ultimate symbol of what is truly wonderful about America.”

"On a day when some dipshi* terrorist wants us to focus on one man"s act of brutality and hatred, it might be worth seeing this video which was posted to Twitter today (June 12th)."

The video showed volunteers standing in a line wrapped around the block, waiting to donate blood.

“It kind of reminds you that that dips**t terrorist is vastly outnumbered,” he said.

Whether you see it as a terrorist attack, a hate crime or a gun issue, the simple fact remains that people are dead because of one person who was so angry and so hateful that he opened fired on unarmed club-goers.

Jessa Duggar, Ben Seewald React to Orlando Shooting By Quoting Anti-Gay Leaders

Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald are speaking out against the Orlando shooting this weekend, and as always, their response is under scrutiny.

The two quoted anti-gay religious leaders in their responses to the mass shooting in Orlando‘s Pulse nightclub, the deadliest in U.S. history.

The gunman, 29-year-old American citizen Omar Mateen, killed at least 50 people and wounded 53 before being shot dead by police.

Mateen’s father claimed his son deliberately targeted LGBT Americans – Pulse being a prominent nightspot for that community – Sunday.

After seeing two gay men kissing in public, the mass murderer was allegedly angry because this happened in front of his wife and son.

There are also reports that Mateen called 911 and pledged allegiance to the Islamic state (ISIS) shortly before opening fire on the crowd.

Like everyone else, Jessa Duggar was horrified by these tragic events, and spoke out in mourning on social media shortly thereafter.

Still, she’s facing some criticism for quoting Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky:

“This is when we show that Christians mourn with those who mourn. May the Gospel of Jesus Christ be evident as the only power greater than a broken heart.”

A moving quote, but one that isn’t sitting well with some.

Critics of the Duggars have been quick to point out that Mohler once called for Christians to boycott the weddings of gay men and women.

Even for friends and relatives, attendance signals “moral approval” of same-sex unions, Mohler said, among other controversial views.

In his response, Jessa’s husband decided to quote Calvinist Baptist preacher John Piper. He posted on Facebook: “Let it be said again.”

“Through tears. Followers of Jesus lay down their lives to save others, not to slaughter.’ – John Piper #‎Orlando #‎shooting #‎tragedy.”

Piper, the founder of desiringgod (dot) org, has also been very outspoken in his belief that Christians should not attend gay weddings.

Not mincing words, he claims that those who do are being “false” because “there is no such thing as a so-called same-sex marriage.”

Piper compares attending a gay wedding to attending a gathering to celebrate “theft,” “drunkenness,” “swindling,” “greed,” or “adultery.”

Jessa and Ben, of course, did not and have not said that.

The Duggars’ and Seewalds’ anti-gay marriage views are not new, nor do they translate to a condoning of violence in any way whatsoever.

Still, given the nature of the attacks and what looks to be a deliberate targeting of the LGBT community, their source material is interesting.

Should they have been more sensitive in choosing quotes, or simply issued their own statements in response to this historic tragedy?

Shahs of Sunset Season 5 Episode 9 Recap: Can You Fake Chemo?

Last night on Shahs of Sunset Season 5 Episode 9, the drama was off the hook at Asa’s fashion show … and with Mike and Jessica.

What else is new with those two, right?

GG on SHAHS

If you watch Shahs of Sunset online, you’re more than caught up on the drama with these two – and their associates – on the regular.

Still, things went to the next level here.

Shahs of Sunset Season 5 Episode 9, entitled “Lights, Camera, Kaftans!” ostensibly focused on Asa Soltan Rahmati’s kaftan fashion show.

Of course, there’s always a subplot.

When Reza Farahan saw Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi at the show, his reaction was “She doesn’t look like someone about to get chemo.”

And there’s your gossip/conflict.

“No one can confirm anything,” Reza adds, rolling his eyes and then dispensing with any pleasantries. “I doubt her story more than ever.”

Later, he took it to her a bit.

“We’re very concerned about you … what’s going on?” Reza asks, perhaps (definitely) baiting her, to which she replies, “With what?”

GG did go on to explain later what’s going on. “They say it’s very aggressive and ‘you have to do the intravenous chemo,’” she says.

As she told the others, including her brother Shervin Roohparvar, that “it’s two hours once a month,” Reza up and walked out of the room.

“I think Golnesa is lying about having RA (rheumatoid arthritis),” he reiterated as Shervin’s jaw hit the floor upon hearing such a thing.

“Why would someone do something like that?” Shervin asks, but later admits that “Reza brings up some really good points” re: GG.

Specifically, if her condition is so bad, why is she still doing her thing – her thing being drinking, smoking and clubbing until all hours?

“Maybe she’s exaggerating a little bit,” Shervin suggests, raising the question of whether one can really exaggerate something like chemo.

On reality TV these days, with the characters that are on this show and the lengths producers will go to in order to concoct a good story?

We wouldn’t be surprised. The Real Housewives of Orange County and Beverly Hills have both played the possibly-fake disease card.

Just saying. It’s a Bravo thang.
