Megan Rapinoe Kneels for National Anthem, Is on Team Kaepernick

Megan Rapinoe is a member of the U.S. National Soccer Team.

But she’s also a member of Team Colin Kaepernick.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has become a topic of national debate after refusing to stand for the national anthem prior to a couple recent preseason football games.

He has made it clear that he plans to continue this protest once the actual season gets underway as well.

Upon initially taking this stance, Kaepernick explained his controversial decision as follows:

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color…

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

In subsequent interviews, Kaepernick specifically cited violent confrontations between members of the police and members of the African-American community that resulted in the latter being killed.

The story has become a global sensation.

President Obama even commented on Kaepernick’s protest over the weekend.

He said that the quarterback was exercising his “constitutional right,” that he’s following in the tradition of other famous athletes and “I think he cares about some real legitimate issues that have to be talked about.”

Here’s a look at Obama making these remarks:

Kaepernick has added that he will continue to make his voice heard until there is “significant change” in the world and he’s also pledged to donate $ 1 million to charities that help communities in need.

Before you criticize Kaepernick, perhaps you should ask yourself:

What are you actively doing to bring about social justice?

No, standing up for the national anthem does not count.

So that brings us to Megan Rapinoe.

A midfielder for the Seattle Reign FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, she took a knee while The Star-Spangled Banner played prior to kickoff against the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday night.

Yes, she later told reporters, his was an intentional move.

Rapinoe explained that she took stand because she’s disgusted with the way Kaepernick has been treated by critics.

Some folks really seem to think that the symbolic gesture of standing up during the national anthem is somehow more important or effective that the proactive stance against injustice that Kaepernick is trying to take.

Rapinoe added that she can relate to Kaepernick on an oppressed level, too.

“Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties,” she said.

“It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it.

“It’s important to have white people stand in support of people of color on this.”

What do you think of Rapinoe’s act?

What do you think of John Legend calling The Star-Spangled Banner weak?

What do you think of veterans standing with Kaepernick across the nation? Does it change your viewpoint at all?

The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 7 Episode 8 Recap: Joe Goes Nuts

On The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 7 Episode 8, tensions continued to linger and tempers continued to flare in the Garden State.

If you watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey online, you know that Joe Giudice has been preparing to begin his prison sentence on the series.

This may be the one storyline in show history that was actually NOT scripted by producers.

On Monday’s special Labor Day installment, the reality of his situation smacked Joe in the face.

And he responded by tossing a lot of alcohol down his throat.

And by going after his wife… verbally, that is. Not like Chris Brown or anything.

After Teresa Giudice made a comment that she needed to file bills, Joe simple snapped.

“Why don’t you pay it again like you normally do?” he said, adding: “That’s why you’ll never survive without me.”

Teresa mumbled something about how she had survived before he came along, to which he hilariously replied:

“I had a lot of money before I married you.”

You’re being just like your dad, Teresa said to him.

And this was clearly the wrong path to go down with Joe.

“Don’t bring my dad up, or I’ll smack your head up against the wall!” he screamed “Shut the f-ck up, please! Stop talking. You and your stupid mother.”

Perhaps we should take back that part about Joe not being like Chris Brown, huh?

Teresa replied to this rant by telling her husband to leave, which he was only too happy to do.

The only thing I’m going to miss are my kids!” he yelled upon stomping away.

Teresa tried to brush off the incident by saying it was just the alcohol talking.

“He needs to go. It would be good for him,” 15-year old Gia told her mom about her dad’s impending prison time. “I think he needs to realize what he has so he can get his sh-t together.”

He also needs to go because he broke many laws when lying about his income and falsifying bankruptcy documents.

“We only have a few weeks left together. I know Joe is unraveling. I see it. He is drinking a lot more. He’s having mood swings. He’s just not dealing with it well,” Teresa said later on.

“Before I went away, I was able to cope with it better than Joe is. I was about making memories because I felt like I was dying. I wanted my kids to remember, Mommy’s happy, Mommy’s smiling.

“Joe’s just different. I feel like saying to him, ‘Joe, wake up. Let’s just make the next few weeks count."”

Elsewhere, in events unrelated to a family that makes the Kardashians seem lovable, Melissa Gorga was overwhelmed by her responsibilities running a business and being a mother.

Could she really have it all?

“I did think it was going to be a little more fun,” she told the camera of her new boutique, Envy. “I’m sacrificing all this time with my family. I’m arguing with my husband, and for what?”

Couldn’t she just delegate more, suggested her business partner?

Sure, maybe, Melissa replied. But she wanted to set an example for her kids.

So she’s forging ahead with the business. For now, anyway.

Finally, Chris and Jacqueline Laurita figured they would host a poker night.

It was meant to be comprised of Chris, Joe Gorga and Joe Giudice… but Rosie Wakile showed up because she felt bad about comments she made about the Giuidices on New Year’s Eve.

She wanted to make things right.

But Joe didn’t show up because he was hungover, prompting Rose to say “I don’t need this bullshit anymore” and adding that was was “f-cking done” before storming out.

(She did eventually return, however.)

When Joe Gorga asked Teresa what was truly going on with her husband, she sighed and replied: “He’s going through a lot right now.”

Yeah. That happens when you’re an awful person who breaks the law.

Teen Mom OG Season 3 Episode 4 Recap: Animal Instincts

On a special Labor Day installment of MTV’s flagship show, Teen Mom OG Season 3 Episode 4 was all about instincts for the fab four.

Whose served them well, and what did this entail?

If you watch Teen Mom OG online, you’re well aware that Farrah Abraham and Simon Saran have had a tumultuous relationship at best.

This week was certainly no exception to that.

The issues between the couple started as soon as Saran touched down in Texas for Easter, with tension mounting throughout the visit.

Take the two simply driving to an egg hunt and Farrah growing irritated with the traffic.

Saran dared to calm her down by mentioning it was a busy weekend, to which she snapped:

“Dude, I’m driving and you’re not. So, I need you to shut the f-ck up. It really is appreciative.”

It really is a wonder she is yet to hold down a man, isn’t it?

At the egg hunt itself, Farrah was looking for eggs with Sophia and Saran was just chilling on the sidelines, prompting Abraham to complain to her mother:

“I don’t know what his deal is. But it needs to stop.”

But that was just the warm-up to the real fight of the night.

Saran dared to walk across Farrah’s living room… with his shoes on!

“Simon, lets not walk on my rug … lets wash your hands out here,” Abraham told her boyfriend while gesturing towards the kitchen sink.

She then repeated herself: “Simon, do not walk on my rug with your shoes.”

I heard you the first time, he replied.

But that wasn’t what Farrah wanted to hear.

“Then what are you doing?” she yelled.

“There’s a sink right here, don’t forget. Don’t walk on my carpet with your shoes … I’ve told you this time and time again when you come over, stop walking with your shoes on my rug.”

Saran tried to understand why Abraham was being to “hostile,” which led to her crying and walking out of the room.

Later on, however, she sat Simon down and spelled out for him everything he sucks at. How sweet, right?

“You don’t pay attention to what aggravates me,” she told him. “I’m talking about the whole f-cking day, and not just the carpet … at the egg hunt, it’s not okay to come and not pay attention to the family you came with.”

Saran tried to interject a couple times, but then just starting texting.

And this was the final straw for Farrah.

She got up… walked into the house to grab his luggage …and rolled it out onto the driveway.

The cameras then followed Simon as he jumped into a black SUV with his suitcase and drove off.

ELSEWHERE during the episode:

Maci came across her dream wedding gown! And her dream wedding venue!

The pregnant Tennessee native (who has since given birth) went dress shopping with her rarely-seen mother, asking MTV to only shoot her from the neck up so that the surprise would remain intact for her fiance, Taylor.

We also got a glimpse of him on the episode when he and Maci went to Florida to check out their ideal wedding location, which cost them a $ 20,000!

It’s a good thing these people exploit their serious personal issues on TV for very big paychecks, huh?

As for Amber? She was stuck in the hospital with a major cold, forcing her to miss time with daughter Leah… who accused her mom of not caring about her.

“You never pick me up when you’re supposed to,” Leah said. “I thought you forgot about me.”

Ouch.

Gary swore to Amber that he did explain to their child how her mother was sick, but it wasn’t enough.

Concerned Leah would think she was a terrible parent, Amber told Matt Baier the following:

“I just don’t want her feeling that way because I don’t have her a lot, I don’t want her thinking it’s because it’s my decision not to have her.”

But, hey, at least Amber bought a cat, bringing her total pet count up to somewhere between 6 and 13,000.

Finally, Catelynn bought a $ 3,000 pig, but then lost it in front of producers.

“I just feel like I need help,” she told them.

“‘Cause I wasn’t really feeling good this morning, and I was having a little bit of anxiety last night… I’m not OK … I do need mental help, something’s just not right."”

She went on to tell  her producer that she needed to stay at a mental health clinic in Arizona and also that she intended to “quit smoking pot.”

Will that really solve all that ails her? It’s a good start, right?

We often make snarky comments to end these Teen Mom OG reviews, but let’s just hope that Catelynn gets the help she needs.

Chevy Chase Needs "Tune-Up," Checks Into Rehab

Chevy Chase has checked into rehab.

The veteran actor – who most recently starred for years on Community before having a falling out with creator Dan Harmon – has been admitted to the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota.

According to Chase’s rep, the ex-Saturday Night Live cast members is in need of a “tune-up” for an alcohol-related dependency.

The rep adds that the man who brought Clark Griswald to live “wants to be the best that he can be.”

Chase is a two-time Academy Awards twice whose most famous films include Fletch, Foul Play, Vacation and Christmas Vacation.

He previously sought treatment for addiction to prescription painkillers back in 1986.

At that time, many decades ago, his rep told The New York Times that Chase had checked into the Betty Ford Clinic/

For what reason?

His past addiction was related to “chronic and long-term back problems” he suffered while injuring himself doing pratfalls and stunts on Saturday Night Live.

(Chase departed the iconic NBC program halfway through it second season.)

“I never shot things up or freebased. I was pretty low-level when it came to drug abuse,” Chase told Esquire in 2010.

“I checked myself into the Betty Ford Clinic after my nose started to hurt.”

The rampant use of drugs and alcohol by cast members during the early years of Saturday Night Live has been well-chronicled at this point.

Chase is 72 years old.

He is in the middle of filming a movie titled “Dog Years” and recently wrapped another flick, “The Christmas Apprentice.”

Other stars who have sought professional help at this same facility in Minnesota include Chris Farley, Liza Minnelli and Robin Williams.

We send Chase our best wishes for a full recovery and clean bill of health, both mental and physical.
