Alan Alda Reveals Parkinson"s Disease Diagnosis

Alan Alda, the veteran and beloved actor, who is also a six-time Emmy Award winner, announced on Tuesday morning that he has Parkinson"s disease.

The long-time star, who anchored one of the most popular programs of all-time (M.A.S.H.) as combat doctor Hawkeye Pierce, opened up about this condition in an interview with CBS today.

"I was diagnosed three-and-a-half years ago and I"ve had a full life since then," the 82-year-old said, adding:

"I"ve acted, I"ve given talks, I help at the Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook, I"ve started this new podcast."

Wow.

As you can tell, this diagnosis has not slowed Alda down one bit.

He didn"t even really plan on going public with the news until he realized that he might not have a choice.

"I had been on television a lot in the last couple of weeks talking about the new podcast – and I could see my thumb twitch in some shots and I thought, it"s probably only a matter of time before somebody does a story about this from a sad point of view, but that"s not where I am," he explained on air.

The podcast to which he keeps referring is called Clear+Vivid. It explores all the ways in which people communicate with each other.

Alda also emphasized during this interview that he isn"t "angry" about what has happened to him.

The widely respected star has enjoyed memorable stints on such hits shows as the West Wing, 30 Rock, The Big C, The Blacklist and, most recently, The Good Fight.

"There are some common symptoms, but mostly everybody"s different and each day is different from the next," Alda said about his illness.

"One day you wake up, you think, oh, it"s over, it"s gone. Next day it"s back a little worse. You don"t know what it"s going to be, but the main thing is, there"s stuff you can do and I"ve been — you know how I look at it?

"It"s like a puzzle to be solved. What do I have to adapt to to carry on a normal life? And I enjoy solving puzzles."

What an admirable attitude.

Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease that results in movement-related problems, commonly referred to as "motor" functions. 

Symptoms can include impaired balance and coordination, slurred speech and difficulty walking.

Fellow actor Michael J. Fox has been open about his own diagnosis for years.

Alan O"Neil Dies; Sons of Anarchy Actor Was 47 Years Old

Alan O’Neil, a veteran actor best known for his role on the final two seasons of Sons of Anarchy, was found dead on Wednesday night.

He was 47 years old.

According to TMZ, O’Neil’s body was found in the hallway of her Los Angeles apartment this week, with all appearances indicating that he died very suddenly.

The actor reportedly had a history of heart problems and was also a heavy smoker.

Moreover, TMZ reports, O’Neil struggled over the years with alcohol and drug abuse.

An autopsy will be conducted at some point in the near future to determine cause of death, but law enforcement sources say no foul play is suspected at this time.

A veteran actor who has made a living in this industry since the 1990s, O’Neill is likely best known to American audiences for the role of Hugh on the aforementioned FX hit.

He portrayed this excommunicated member of the IRA for seven total episodes and even appeared on the series finale in 2014.

However, O’Neil’s longest run on a series took place in Ireland’s Fair City, on which he portrayed a main character named Keith McGrath.

He had just been cast in a horror film called Charlie Lives: The Family’s Return prior to his tragic passing.

“My good friend Alan O’Neill died today….we worked together on The Sons Of Anarchy…my condolences to his family,” actor Timothy V. Murphy Tweeted in response to O’Neil’s death this evening.

“So sad to hear of the passing of Alan O’Neill who played ‘Keith’ in Fair City,” actor Seamus Power wrote, continuing:

“Always enjoyed working with him. Rest In Peace old pal.”

“Thinking of him, his family and friends…and all his fans. Rest easy,” added a fan on social media.

This very sad loss comes just one month after another Sons of Anarchy star, David Labrava, revealed on that his 16-year-old son, Tycho Spelis Chiusano, had taken his own life after battling depression.

“Never in a million years would I think I would be posting this,” he wrote on Instagram in mid-May, adding at the time:

“This is my boy Tycho. He took his life a couple of days ago at 16 years old.

“He suffered from a depression we couldn’t see because he was a happy young kid. I am broken.”

Elsewhere, back in 2012, Sons of Anarchy Johnny Lewis was found dead at age 28.

Kirlyam and Alan Cox: 90 Day Fiance Couple Gives Birth!

Not every couple on 90 Day Fiance ends up as bitter and full of mutual loathing as, say, Danielle Mullins and Mohamed Jbali. But that doesn’t mean that every couple gets their happily ever after, either.

Kirlyam and Alan Cox, however, are one of those beautiful exceptions. They lived the dream and made it and are a happy couple. And this summer, we told you that Kirlyam was pregnant.

They were due in September, but sometimes the best things take a little extra time to prepare. (And yes, of course there are baby pictures)

There are schemers and cheaters and toxic relationships left and right on 90 Day Fiance.

But we can’t forget about the good relationships, too.

Alan Cox was doing his work as a Mormon missionary in Brazil when he met Kirlyam.

The two of them hit it off. And though there were issues — Kirlyam may have looked a bit like a mail-order bride to some of Alan’s peers, while marrying Kirlyam meant leaving her family behind in Brazil for Kirlyam — they went through with their engagement and got married.

Honestly, we’ve loved watching the two of them be adorable nerds together on Instagram, whether they were going out to see Wonder Woman or geeking out about Harry Potter.

The most dramatic part of their relationship, in our estimation, is that Kirlyam’s family couldn’t afford the trip and had to watch a livestream of Kirlyam and Alan getting hitched.

In fact, the only downside to these two is that their high-on-love, low-on-drama relationship doesn’t make them as juicy fodder for the 90 Day Fiance cameras (or their spin-offs).

But check out their latest adorable development!

Baby Liam was born on the 6th of October, 2017.

Alan Cox took to Instagram to share the wonderful news:

“Welcome to the world Liam Jordan da Costa Cox. Born 10/06/17 at 7:57 pm. 6 lbs 15 oz 20 inches long. Baby and momma are doing great. I’m so proud of you @kirlyam_. You are a true warrior. I love you so much!”

He also translated it, like most of his updates about Kirlyam, into Portuguese for Kirlyam’s relatives. Awww!

She pushed for twenty hours, which is enough to impress us but the thought of that makes us want to curl up and die.

Sharing an up-close photo of precious baby Liam, Alan shared the experience of every new parent.

“Loving life right now! Well except the no sleep part.. hahahahaha but then I look at Liam and suddenly I’m not so tired.”

He’s so cute!

Alan Cox elaborated about Kirlyam’s labor experience.

“I do not have the words to describe what I feel for this wonderful woman. I am so proud of her. She was an absolute warrior in the delivery room. After 20 hours of active labor she still had the energy and drive to sacrifice her body for Liam.”

We can only imagine how tough it was for Kirlyam, especially given the difference in stature between herself and her husband.

(Not every big baby becomes a tall adult, but there’s something to be said for the effort of pushing a very tall man’s baby out of a very small woman’s uterus)

Alan Cox continued:

“I will forever be grateful and love this woman for all time and eternity. @kirlyam_ thank you”

These two are so sweet with each other. That tribute is even more precious than Alan’s glowing face as he shopped for baby clothes during the summer.

And to think that mere days before, the two had been throwing up their hands and wondering when Liam, due in September, would ever enter the world!

Kirlyam made her own, much more succinct post. Again, her baby was born less than a week ago, and if we’d just pushed for 20 hours, you wouldn’t catch us so much as tapping “like” on Instagram.

“Welcome to the world Liam. We love you so very much!!!!”

She included some blue hearts and, of course, a Portuguese translation.

The next time that 90 Day Fiance makes you feel cynical about relationships, about marriage, and about the show itself, maybe think of this growing family.

Tanya Callau: Alan Thicke"s Sons Want to Turn His Home into a Pot Farm!

Poor Alan Thicke must be rolling in his grave right now.

Just months after his tragic, unexpected death, his family is getting into what’s surely going to be a nasty battle over his fortune.

He worked so hard for decades, and for this?

What a shame.

To recap the situation, Alan’s oldest sons, Brennan and Robin, filed a petition earlier this week, claiming that Alan’s widow, Tanya Callau, is trying to get more money than what was left to her.

Alan had a living trust that left his home, a ranch in California, to his sons, with the specification that Tanya could continue living there as long as she paid for maintenance on the property.

He left 60% of his estate to be split between his three sons, with the remaining 40% going to Tanya. He also left the money from his life insurance policy, as well as his pension, to her.

But according to the petition, that’s not enough for Tanya.

The documents claim that Alan’s widow is now saying that there are problems with the trust, as well as with the prenup she signed eleven years ago.

Because of that, and because she has rights to the ranch, and also because she put her own career aside to support Alan, she wants to reevaluate the trust.

Brennan and Robin also claim that Tanya threatened to go to the tabloids if they didn’t agree to her demands.

It’s pretty nasty, and it’s only getting nastier.

Tanya has already gone to the media, telling TMZ that she’s not, as so many believe now, a gold digger, and that she and Alan were actually planning on having a baby before he died.

But she’s not done yet … and her new statement is pretty darn scandalous.

According to a statement Tanya’s lawyer made, she’s the good guy in this situation — and Alan’s sons are the ones with the bad intentions.

“Since Alan died,” the statement reads, “his sons have been haranguing her to let them turn America’s dad’s homestead into a massive pot plantation.”

“When she said no, they filed this bogus lawsuit and smeared her in the tabloids. They’re just trying to bully a woman whose only crime is loving their father with everything she had for 17 years.”

Yeah, so go ahead and let that sink in for a moment.

It’s just interesting because when we first heard this news, it wasn’t because Alan’s sons were going to the media, it was because they filed the petition in court.

They still haven’t made any sort of public statement.

But Tanya has been speaking to multiple outlets, and now she’s trying to say that the whole issue began because she didn’t want Brennan and Robin to use the family home to grow marijuana?

Without knowing the full situation, it kind of seems like she’s going to the tabloids like the original petition suggested she might, doesn’t it?

This must be such a difficult, trying time for everyone involved, and it doesn’t look like things are going to get easier anytime soon.

But, you know, not making statements about how your dead husband’s sons want to use the family home to grow drugs might help a little.

Tanya Callau: I"m Not a Gold Digger, I Wanted to Have Alan Thicke"s Baby!

We were all shocked last December when Alan Thicke died suddenly from a ruptured aorta.

And now we’re shocked all over again that his surviving family members are getting into a nasty court battle over what Alan left behind.

As we heard yesterday, Alan’s two oldest sons, Brennan and Robin Thicke, have filed a petition to protect Alan’s legacy from the scheming ways of his greedy widow, Tanya Callau.

At least, that’s how their side of the story goes.

According to court documents, Alan had a living trust, and he left 40% of his estate to Tanya and the other 60% to be split equally between his three sons.

He left his home, his ranch in California, to his children, but specified that Tanya could continue living there if she maintained the property.

Tanya also received the money from Alan’s life insurance policy, all of his benefits and pensions, and 25% of his personal belongings — his sons got the other 75%.

Sounds fair, right? It also sounds like Alan was very specific about what he wanted to happen to his fortune after his death.

But according to the petition, Tanya has been claiming that there are issues with the trust, as well as with the prenup she signed when she married Alan.

She is allegedly demanding more of Alan’s estate, and has been threatening to take her story to the tabloids if Brennan and Robin don’t give her what she wants.

Because of all of this new information, Tanya has been raked through the mud by pretty much everyone who’s read the story.

She’s been called a filthy gold digger, a money-hungry bitch … all kinds of nasty things.

So it makes sense that Tanya went to TMZ with her own story.

As she tells it, she’s not a gold digger at all — she loved Alan deeply throughout their 11-year marriage.

She loved him so much, she says, that they were planning on having a baby together before his untimely death.

The plan was for her to get pregnant this year after Alan’s youngest son, 19-year-old Carter, moved out of the house. They’d had her eggs frozen three years ago, and 2017 was to be the year for a new Thicke baby.

At the beginning of December, what had to be just days before his death, they brought an architect to the ranch to begin work on a nursery.

Tanya also says that she never threatened to go to the tabloids as Brennan and Robin claim, and TMZ adds that “she’s calling BS” on the claims that she’s being greedy.

It’s unclear if she actually is trying to win more than what Alan set aside for her in his trust.

Just when you thought this story couldn’t get any sadder, right?

Alan Colmes: Mourned, Remembered by Fox News

As previously reported, Alan Colmes has died at the age of 66.

The long-time Fox News host and contributor played a major role on that network ever since its debut year of 1996, beginning a run that year as co-host of Hannity and Colmes.

The liberal argued politics on that series with conservative friend and foe Sean Hannity until 2009, at which time Hannity took over hosting duties on his own.

“I’m truly heartbroken at the loss of a dear friend,” Hannity said in a statement after learning the sad news, referring to Colmes as “one of life’s most decent, kind and wonderful people you’d ever want to meet.”

In terms of making the announcement, that job fell to America’s Newsroom co-anchor Bill Hemmer, who confirmed Colmes" passing during Thursday’s broadcast of the program.

“We have, yet again, some sad news to report here at the Fox News Channel,” said Hemmer. “Fox News contributor and frequent guest here in America’s Newsroom, Alan Colmes, has passed away.”

Alan"s death came just days after financial reporter Brenda Buttner also passed away.
