Katharine McPhee: Blasted By Taylor Hicks Following Lame Attempt at Shade!
In case you’ve forgotten that there was a point where people actually gave a sh-t about American Idol, allow us to take you back to a simpler time and place, when it was Ryan Seacrest, not Mark Zuckerberg, who decided the outcome of our country’s most hotly-contested elections.
The year was 2006, and Taylor Hicks was making headlines for being young, yet looking old, not unlike how Katharine McPhee is now making headlines for looking young and marrying old.
Anyway, Taylor and Katharine were neck-and-neck throughout their time on the show, but in the end, he came away with the coveted title of American Idol champion.
The win didn’t exactly do wonders for his career, but we’ll get to that later.
McPhee and Hicks are back in the news today thanks to a mild feud that’s revealed some long-simmering tension.
As part of a voter registration drive leading up to November’s midterm elections, McPhee tweeted a photo of herself standing next to Hicks and captioned it with a not-so-subtle jab at her former rival:
“Voting matters,” the actress captioned the pic, complete with upside-down smiley face emoji.
As you can see, Hicks was quick to fire back with a jab of his own, tweeting:
“You’re right, voting DOES matter! But you’re a little late to the party, Kat.”
Not exactly Biggie vs. Pac, but a mildly entertaining beef made all the more amusing by the fact that neither Hicks nor McPhee has been lighting the charts on fire in the years since their Idol season.
In fact, neither of them has scored a hit.
Katharine’s gone on to a more high-profile career thanks to roles on Scorpion and other shows that play ‘round-the-clock in retirement home common rooms.
These days she’s best known for her engagement to David Foster, as well as for her creepy tendency to refer to his daughters as her kids, even though two of them are older than Katharine.
As for Taylor … well, he’s not exactly killing the game, but he has scored a gig hosting something called State Plate on something called the INSP channel.
The funniest part of all of this is that Taylor and Kat’s season introduced the world to Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler, both of whom went on to more successful careers.
Perhaps one of those two should sound off on this situation.
“You’re right, Taylor and Kat, voting does matter … but not as much as how you spend your money,” Daughtry could tweet.
Now, that would be a valuable lesson on the inner-workings of both the music industry and American democracy.

Katharine McPhee Defends Engagement to David Foster
Last November, Katharine McPhee responded to dating rumors by claiming that she was more or less single.
Fast forward half a year, and Katharine McPhee and David Foster are engaged.
Fans had a lot to say, and Katharine is defending her engagement.
Katharine McPhee reminds her fans and followers to keep their priorities in order.
“Y’all should be worrying more about registering to vote and midterm elections,” McPhee admonishes on Twitter.
She writes that the fate of the country and the world is much more important “than who’s marrying me.”
McPhee finishes her tweet with one of the best ways to conclude any announcemeng or argument on social media.
She says: “Thank you for coming to my TED talk.”
In a text message with Jared Eng, who is the Jared of Just Jared and Just Jared Jr., McPhee provided some details on the proposal.
“He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri,” McPhee shares.
She also posted a screencap of the conversation to Instagram, so that everyone could get the details.
“Totally dark, only stars,” McPhee described, setting the mood.
“Thankfully he didn’t push me off the cliff,” she joked.
McPhee is known for her wit.
“He said it was one or the other,” she said, continuing the joke. “And in the end he spared me.”
“He still has the option to push you off another day,” Jared Eng wisely commented.
It’s good when you can have a sense of humor with your friends.
Katharine McPhee also joked on Twitter about her engagement news, acknowledging that fans already knew before she ever tweeted about it.
“Guys HELLO!” She wrote. “i’m back in america and back on stage tonight.”
“Were you saying anything?” she asked, making it obvious that she had seen their tweets about her engagement. “What did I miss?”
Of course, even so, some people decided to respond to the engagement news by throwing some shade.
One person tweeted: “Hope his 5th marriage & 8th engagement works out!”
Yes, he has really been married four times. He also has five (biological) daughters and seven grandchildren.
But neither that, nor the fact that, at 68, he is literally twice the age of the 34-year-old actress, necessarily mean that this is a bad match.
Similarly, just because McPhee had a relationship with a man while he was married and also just because she’s on that awful Scorpion show doesn’t mean that she isn’t marriage material.
For the record, Foster’s daughters Erin and Sara have already weighed in on this happy engagement news.
After David confirmed the news on Instagram, Erin commented: “Mommmyyy” followed by three heart emojis.
(Erin has made this joke before, even when her father and McPhee were “just friends”)
Sara echoed McPhee’s joke, writing: “Out of the country. What did I miss?”
It’s always good when you’re already comfortable with someone who is about to be family.
Congratulations to Katharine McPhee and to David Foster on their engagement.
But we recommend that they avoid honeymooning on any mountains.

David Foster and Katharine McPhee: Engaged!!!
In honor of July Fourth, David Foster and Katharine McPhee have some explosive news to share:
They’re engaged! To be married!
KABOOM!
The American idol alum and veteran Scorpion actress revealed via Instagram on Tuesday that her 68-year-old boyfriend asked for her hand in marriage “at the top of this mountain in Anacapri” during the couple’s recent romantic rendezvous in Italy.
In a pretty funny text exchange with a friend shared to her social media account, McPhee verified that the dark sky was full of stars when Foster proposed.
She then joked that Foster said he was going to push her off a cliff… or see if she wanted to be his wife, eventually choosing the second option.
How romantic, right?
Check out the aforementioned conversation below:
Foster has been married four times and has five children.
His last marriage was to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Yolanda Hadid.
McPhee, meanwhile, married Nick Cokas in 2008 and, get this… Foster played piano at this wedding reception!
The artist/actress and Cokas were married for six years until the the former filed for divorce from her producer husband in May of 2014. The former couple’s divorce was finalized in 2016.
There was talk that McPhee cheated on Cokas with a married man, but whatever.
We’re not here to relitigate the past.
We’re here to acknowledge a hopefully bright future for McPhee and Foster, who first crossed paths back in 2006 during McPhee’s run on American Idol.
McPhee shared a diamond ring emoji on Twitter in recognition of this life milestone, as fans wonder about the size and shape of her actual ring.
“The ring is very elegant and large,” an insider tells E! News, adding:
“They are both very happy and over the moon excited. Katherine has been wanting this for a while now. David has been planning the engagement, but has kept it very secretive.
“Only a few family members knew about his plans. David’s children are all very accepting of Katherine now, and are very happy for their Dad.”
There has been chatter about McPhee and Foster being a romantic item for years, but they only went public with their relationship last year.
There is, of course, a giant age difference between the 34-year old and 68-year old, but David’s daughter Sara doesn’t seem to care.
“We love Katharine McPhee. We love our dad. We want our dad to be happy. We don’t care who he dates…don’t really care how old they are,” she said to E! News in the past.
We agree!
Congrats to the couple!

Katharine McPhee Responds to David Foster Dating Rumors!
Men and women can totally just be friends. But we guess that when you have no regrets after an affair with a married man, people start to look at you with a lot of careful scrutiny.
Which explains why people have a lot of questions for Katharine McPhee about how close her friendship with David Foster really is.
Especially considering what David’s own daughter said about Katharine and David’s relationship.
In an interview with Health, Katharine McPhee opens up on her current romance situation … and tries to set the record straight about David Foster.
“I’m pretty single,” she begins.
That’s not the clearest statement that she could make.
Pretty single can mean very single, or it can mean more or less single. Or even kind of single. This kind of ambiguity isn’t super helpful when you’re trying to “clear things up.”
Katharine continues:
“I had a relationship with my lead actor on my show [Elyes Gabel]; that was almost two years.”
That show being Scorpion, which is almost unbearably awful but … it’s a CBS show. The network airs The Big Bang Theory and had the monstrous audacity to give it a spin-off.
That network may be headed by phantasmal entities that feed off of human suffering, which would explain a lot of their programming.
(Yes, I watched the pilot of Scorpion, and I can never get that hour of my life back)
“I still am crazy about him,” Katharine says of her ex and costar. “And we have a really great working relationship.”
That must be tough, and she acknowledges that.
“It’s definitely not the easiest thing to get over someone you see every day! It’s still an adjustment.”
Well, that’s her ex — what’s going on now?
“But I haven’t had anything super serious since.”
Well, though Katharine McPhee and David Foster have never been strangers, rumors about the two of them spiked recently.
David Foster has a number of children — Gigi Hadid being arguably the most famous — but it was Erin Foster’s post in September that got rumors churning.
Erin snapped a photo of Katharine and David, captioning it: “Excited about my new step mom.”
Not everyone took this seriously — in addition to being older than Katharine McPhee, Erin Foster is a comedy writer.
But the rumors exist nonetheless.
Katharine explains how that post came to be:
“So we were sitting there at the table, and she said, ‘Do you wanna, like, do a thing?"”
Good that Erin asked for permission.
“And I was like, ‘OK.’ So I mean, we were in on it. She’s so funny — I mean, you saw what she wrote about ‘my parents."”
It was funny.
“Truly,” Katharine continues. “You think that’s how she’d announce it? On Instagram?”
That’s almost adorably naive — plenty of celebrities would announce things like that on Instagram.
Katharine goes on to try to provide a little more context for her friendship with David Foster.
“We’re very close friends, and we’ve been friends for a long time.”
12 years, by our count.
“I’m really, really fond of him, and I think he’s an incredible person.”
It’s great to have a high opinion of your friends.
“I’ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know?”
That’s where we get the 12 years — because Katharine is 33. Math.
“He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me.”
David Foster is, of course, a music producer. It’s nice that they’re also friends.
But Katharine maintains a realistic idea of how rumors work.
“People can say whatever they want.”
We wouldn’t say that she categorically denied that there’s anything going on between herself and David Foster.
But she’s definitely shooting down the idea that she’s banging Gigi Hadid’s dad.
And, quite frankly, there’s no real reason to believe that she is.
Still, we think that she did herself a favor by addressing the rumor instead of just allowing it to float around unchallenged.

Katharine McPhee Responds to Leaked Pics: Laws Need to Change!
The celebrity world is still reeling from the latest set of hacked nudes, spreading fear of a new “Fappening.”
Obviously, no one is more deeply impacted than the celebrities whose photos were stolen, including Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus, and Tiger Woods.
One of those celebrities, Katharine McPhee, is speaking out — and she says that we need to change laws to discourage this kind of egregious invasion of privacy from happening again.
Katharine McPhee spoke to People and she starts just by sharing her reaction to having her personal photos violated.
Tragically, this isn’t even the first time that she’s been through this.
“I was hacked sometime in the last few years, and along with other celebrities a few days ago, my private photos were blasted all over some sick and despicable websites.”
A lot of the time, leaks spread over social media. The platforms themselves are of course not the culprits.
But there are some sites devoted specifically to sharing the nudes — particularly the leaked or stolen nudes — of celebrities.
It’s vicious and it overwhelmingly targets famous women.
Katharine McPhee has a refreshing amount of perspective on the matter.
“The photos that are mine I am not ashamed of. I love my body and they were taken for a man I was deeply in love with, or for no one but myself.”
There’s no way to no for sure which man Katharine means, though it could always have been that married man.
She adds, very correctly, that what is “truly disgusting is that these sites include photos that do not belong to me, and are not of my body, and I’ve learned this happens continually.”
It’s one thing to have something bad happen to you. Sometimes it’s worse to realize that it happens to others.
Katharine goes on to talk about what needs to change for these kinds of violations to end.
“The constant exploitation of women with no recourse for these websites is absolutely abhorrent.”
Very true.
“These sites, which TMZ (thank you so much) brings more light and attention to by calling them out by name (shame on you), should be shut down. Period. The end.”
We’re not going to weigh in on mentioning a website by name — sometimes there are legal reasons that require you to mention it, and sometimes it’s just a writer trying to be as thorough as possible.
(Rather than a deliberate attempt to make sure that more people see stolen nudes)
And, for the record, TMZ doesn’t host photos that contain nudity like that. They censor even the voluntary kind.
Katharine McPhee does point the finger at sites that distribute these images — hackers upload them to one place, but then other people take it up from there.
“Even if you aren’t the one hacking, if you have taken stolen photos and put them on your site, you are an accessory and should be shut down. Laws need to be changed.”
She goes on to clarify that she’s not painting herself as a victim.
At least, not when compared to others to whom this has happened.
“I am not perfect.”
Can’t relate.
“I never have been and never will be. I try every day to learn to be better and to always live and lead with kindness and love.”
Aren’t we all? Well … more or less.
“But no one deserves this kind of intrusion. I have other friends on these sites, images and videos that were stolen and they cannot get taken down. This is not just a celebrity issue.”
She’s right. Revenge porn is a real thing and it’s sickening.
“This is a privacy and sex crime issue that affects private citizens as well. I hope other female victims and men for that matter, will help and join me in ending this absurdity. Game on.”
People also reported that, in court documents, Katharine McPhee expressed an abundance of negative emotions in response to the leaked photos:
“Horror, shock, shame, mortification, hurt feelings, depression, and … powerlessness.”
That’s appropriate.
We have to say that Katharine McPhee is extremely well-spoken.
It’s tragic that his happened and almost certainly will happen again. It is never someone’s fault simply for having photos, but people will try to blame the victims anyway.
What do you think about her statement about legal statutes? Do laws need to be changed?

Katherine McPhee: No Regrets After Affair With Married Man
It’s always wonderful to hear that a mistress is at peace with potentially destroying a marriage.
Katherine McPhee pretty much did just that in when she hooked up with her Smash director, Michael Morris in 2013.
Morris’ wife, actress Mary McCormack decided to stay with him, though at first she planned to end the marriage.
“Mary is a strong woman,” a source told people in November 2013.
“Her dedication to her children will remain her focus and gift.”
As for McPhee, she filed for divorce from Nick Cokas in May 2014 after six years of marriage. What’s odd is that she listed the date of separation as May 2013, just months before she was photographed kissing Morris.
“I feel pretty grounded. I got married really young, and then divorced, and in the last couple of years, I felt like, Wow, this is what I should have been doing when I was 20 instead of planning a wedding,” McPhee told Ocean Magazine.
“But I don’t have any regrets.”
You sure about that?
“All of the choices I made I learned from in a really deep way,” she continued.
“I have always been fortunate to have strong influences in my life who have forced me to look at my own choices and my own failures. I think we are all on that journey to have more awareness about who we are as a person and to grow and learn.”
McPhee, who currently stars on the CBS drama, Scorpion, is treading lightly when it comes to life as a singleton these days.
“I have not been single for very much of my life. I don’t really understand how to date or how to be single,” she said. As soon as I know that I don’t really want to be in a relationship with somebody, I don’t really care to keep it going. I’m trying to date in a way that doesn’t lock me down.”
That’s cool, but just remember to look exclusively for other single people.
