A cheating scandal was reportedly the catalyst behind Nicolas Cage‘s sudden split with his wife – and Alice Kim was the one stepping out.
The 52-year-old eccentric, financially irresponsible Oscar winner and his 32-year-old spouse announced their separation late last week.
They had been married since 2004 and have one child together.
It’s not his first divorce – or his second – but what makes Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim‘s breakup so surprising is this latest revelation:
She was cheating on him! Publicly and for awhile now!
“All while he was at the Cannes film festival,” a source close to the situation told Radar Online, detailing Kim’s betrayal of Cage.
The actor, to put things mildly, “was blindsided when he was confronted with allegations that Alice had been cheating on him.”
“The reality is that Alice has been regularly spotted in Nevada with another man – and was even caught kissing him behind Nick’s back.”
Soon after, Cage interrogated his wife about the claims, which made their way to him via an unnamed business associate.
His publicist then issued a statement claiming that the two have been separated and living apart since January of this year.
Cage had been living with Kim and their 10-year-old son Kal-El near Summerli, Nevada, about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas strip.
She is Cage’s third wife, following his original marriage to Patricia Arquette and his short-lived union with Lisa Marie Presley.
Alice and Nicolas met in February 2004 when she served him while working as a waitress in a Los Angeles restaurant.
They were engaged two months later.
Very little is known about the notoriously private star’s personal life, but Cage was arrested for domestic abuse against Alice in 2011.
During the outburst, a drunk Cage allegedly grabbed Kim by the arm, began hitting parked cars and dared police officers to arrest him.
They obliged, but Dog the Bounty hunter bailed him out of a New Orleans jail and Alice declined to press charges, so all was right with the world.

A rep for the actor confirmed the news to Us Weekly earlier today.
The couple share one son together, Kal-el, 10.
Cage met Kim when she was working as a waitress at the Los Angeles-based restaurant Kabuki and got engaged after just two months of dating.
They were married at a private ranch in Northern California in July of 2004.
In 2011, Cage was arrested for domestic abuse against his wife during a heated argument they had on the street in New Orleans.
During the outburst, Cage allegedly grabbed Kim by the arm and pulled her down the street.
Reportedly drunk and certainly disorderly, Cage began hitting parked cars before police arrived on the scene.
When he was told to go home, he dared the cops to arrest him, and eventually they did.
However, Kim did not want him charged and claimed there was no physical contact.
Since this incident, we haven’t heard much about their relationship except that Cage had squandered away his money and was living with his family in a tiny condo in Las Vegas.
This was the third marriage for Cage.
He was married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001.
In August 2002, Cage tied the knot with Lisa Marie Presley, but the pair filed for divorce just months later in November of the same year.

On April 8th, we here at The Hollywood Gossip watched what could only be described as the strangest altercation of April 2016.
TMZ showed footage of Nicolas Cage and Motley Crue’s Vince Neil arguing outside the Aria Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. At first, I thought they were shooting scenes for a movie, because Cage was wearing a royal blue suit and orange-tinted sunglasses, and Neil looked like a sloppy tourist in shorts and a tee.
According to sources, a woman had approached Cage for an autograph, at which point Neil pulled her by her hair and dragged her to the ground.
Cage intervened and took Neil outside, insisting that Neil “stop this sh** now.” Cage then put his friend in a head lock to soothe him (I guess?), and then they said “I love” to one another.
A man who appeared to be part of the hotel’s security detail tried to calm the two down, but as far as Neil and Cage were concerned, he was trying to break up a moment between friends.
It was weird.
Now, TMZ reports that Neil did not drag the woman by the hair, but he did act aggressively enough to get in trouble with the law (both police and surveillance video confirm this).
Sources close to Neil said that the woman acted aggressively when she asked for the stars’ autographs while they were having a boozy lunch with Carrot Top (who left when things got weird, according to TMZ).
Neil got annoyed and “pushed past her,” but did not pull her down by her hair.
What got Neil fired up was being held by security for an hour inside the hotel, after receiving a ticket from police for battery.
Nicolas Cage has a long history of erratic behavior.
In fact, if you look up "erratic" in the dictionary, you find a picture of Nicolas Cage wearing a shirt with Nicolas Cage on it.
In the past, Cage has been arrested for assaulting his wife (and subsequently sprung by Dog the Bounty Hunter), and demonstrated a quickness to anger belied by his famous deadpan drawl.
Yesterday in Vegas, however, it seems Cage was actually the voice of reason in a bizarre incident involving notorious Motley Crüe singer Vince Neil.
According to TMZ, Neil assaulted a woman who asked for Cage"s autograph in the lobby of the Aria Hotel.
Nic reportedly came to the woman"s defense, which led to a scuffle between the two fifty-something men.
Yes, it was a full-blown Cage match (sorry), and thankfully a portion of it was caught on video.
Witnesses say that after Neil grabbed the woman by the hair and pulled her to the ground, Cage restrained his friend and dragged him outside.
In the clip below, you can see the two screaming at one another before and embracing and declaring their mutual love.
Sources say Neil was arrested for assault just moments later.
Needless to say, it was a strange scene – but just another day in the life of Nicolas Cage.
