Burke Ramsey: Brother of JonBenet Ramsey Sues CBS for $750 Million
There’s been a revival of interest in the shocking death of child beauty pageant contestant JonBenet Ramsey in recent months, thanks in no small to television’s current true crime mania.
JonBenet was murdered in 1996 at the age of 6, and the continued fascination with the still-unsolved case has prompted a slew of new investigative television specials.
The past year has seen 5 network TV specials centered around the Ramsey case, including CBS’ two-part The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey.
The special was one of the most in-depth televised investigations into the bizarre case, and much of it centered around the theory that JonBenet was murdered by her eccentric brother, Burke Ramsey.
Experts theorized that Burke, just 9 years old at the time of the murder, bludgeoned his sister to death because he was upset that she’d stolen a bite of his pineapple.
Not surprisingly, Burke was not pleased with the way he was portrayed in the series, and he’s now filed a $ 750 million lawsuit against CBS.
According to documents obtained by Us Weekly, Burke is suing in order to “redress the permanent damage to his reputation resulting from defendants’ false accusation that he killed his sister, JonBenet Ramsey.”
The suit likely didn’t come as a surprise to the powerhouse network, as Burke already sued Werner Spitz, one of the pathologists who pointed the finger at him during the CBS special.
In documents filed in October, Burke accused Spitz of “having a disturbing history of making false statements related to the brutal murder of young girls.”
Investigators initially believed that Burke committed the crime, and his parents aided him in covering it up.
Burke was exonerated by DNA evidence in 1999, but Spitz and others believe he was saved by human error and the limited technology of the time.
Burke broke his silence on his sister’s murder back in August, opening up to Dr. Phil about the allegations against him in a one-hour special.
At the time, Burke made it clear that he would take legal action against any individuals or media outlets who claimed that he had played any role in his sister’s death.
Now it seems apparent that he has every intention of following through on that promise.

JonBenet Ramsey: Brother Burke Sues Pathologist Who Claims He Killed His Sister
The 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey remains unsolved, but Burke Ramsey is certain of one thing.
He did not kill his sister.
Burke is so sure that he’s suing forensic pathologist Werner Spitz Burke for claiming he killed the little girl on the CBS special, The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey.
The $ 150 million defamation suit alleges that Spitz “explicitly and falsely stat[ing] that Burke Ramsey killed his sister, JonBenét Ramsey.”
The lawsuit accuses Spitz of “having a disturbing history of making false statements related to the brutal murder of young girls.”
Burke’s lawyer, John Lesko stated in the October 6th filing that
“Defendant Spitz has once again interjected himself into a high profile case to make unsupported, false and sensational statements and accusations — this time accusing Burke Ramsey of JonBenét’s brutal murder.
“In the Interview, Defendant Spitz claims Burke, age 9 at the time of his sister’s death, bludgeoned her to death.
“Defendant Spitz made this accusation without ever examining JonBenét’s body, without viewing the crime scene, and without consulting with the pathologist who performed the autopsy on JonBenét.”
Burke agreed to do a series of interviews with Dr. Phil to “honor” his sister’s memory.
The 29-year-old Purdue University graduate is aware that people think he killed his sister, but he insists that he did not do it.
Therefore, his filing requests that Spitz “remove and retract all defamatory statements.”
Burke spoke to Dr. Phil about his sister’s death, and the chaos that ensued inside the family’s Colorado home.
“Iremember my mom searching my room that night saying, ‘Where’s my baby? Where’s my baby?’” Burke said.
The funeral, Burke added, is not yet a distant memory.
“I remember the viewing. The casket was small. Her eyes were closed.”
The lawsuit is a particularly sensitive issue for Burke, as he’s aware that the public still blames him and his parents – Patsy, who died of ovarian cancer in 2006, and John – for the death.
“I know people think I did it, that my parents did it,” he said. “I know that we were suspects.”

Burke Ramsey Speaks on JonBenet Ramsey Murder
The JonBenet Ramsey murder case may be 20 years old.
But it refuses to go away.
In fact, it will be front and center in a couple of different ways over the next few months.
As previously announced, CBS will air a miniseries that explores the mysterious disappearance of this child beauty queen.
You can watch a trailer for it here:
But truly significant buzz surrounding the JonBenet Ramsey case centers on the victim"s brother, Burke Ramsey.
He"s the only member of his immediate family who has never spoken to the press, but he will touch on the sad topic of his sister"s death in an interview with Dr. Phil on September 12.
For those unaware of these details, Ramsey was killed in December of 1996.
But the killer was never found and Ramsey"s parents were long believed to have been the culprits.
Many people out there still suspects JonBenet"s parents of committing this heinous crime, while also pointing a finger at Burke.
He"s now 29 years old and he tells Dr. Phil that he"s aware those allegations persist.
"I remember my mom searching my room that night saying, "Where"s my baby? Where"s my baby?"" Burke tells the talk show host in the three-part season premiere.
We"ve posted the first trailer for it below.
"Has it ever occurred to you that your parents actually thought you did this and didn"t ask you because they didn"t want to know?" Dr. Phil asks Burke in the sit-down.
"I know people think I did it; that my parents did it. I know that we were suspects," he responds, adding:
"I want to honor her memory by doing this interview. I don"t want anyone to forget."
Since the young beauty queen’s death, JonBenet"s mother passed away from ovarian cancer and her father has remarried.
Despite moving forward with their lives as best they can, the family members haven"t forgotten the past.
"I remember the viewing," Burke says. "The casket was small. Her eyes were closed."
JonBenet was discovered beaten and strangled in her Colorado home"s basement on December 26, 1996.
There have been more than 140 suspects and more than 1,400 pieces of evidence reviewed. No one was ever arrested for the crime.
Back in 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey made the initial call to police, saying they found a note demanding ransom for their daughter of $ 118,000.
John later came across his daughter"s body hours after police completed a search of the residence.
In 2008, they were officially cleared of any wrongdoing.
The three-part Dr. Phil season premiere begins Monday, September 12 and continues Tuesday, September 13 and Monday, September 19 on CBS.

The Case of JonBenét Ramsey: First Trailer!
CBS is getting into the real life minseries game.
On the heels of FX"s wildly successful OJ Simpson program, the broadcast network has released the first trailer for The Case of JonBenét Ramsey.
This a six-hour docuseries that will try to solve the mystery of the six-year-old girl’s murder, two decades after her death.
Ramsey"s murder has remained a mystery for nearly 20 years; continues to make national news.
Earlier this month, there was talk that Burke Ramsey would break his silence of his sister"s death.
Heck, there was also talk that Katy Perry IS JonBenét Ramsey. (She"s not.)
The six-year-old beauty pageant contestant was found dead in her parents" basement in Boulder, Colorado.
Her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were initially suspects in the case. However, they were cleared due to DNA results in 2008.
(Patsy passed away at the age of 49 in June 2006 after a battle with ovarian cancer.)
“We hope to get the truth out about how she died,” says Jim Clemente, an FBI investigator who worked the original case. “She’s not gotten justice yet!”
Clemente is joined by Scotland Yard behavioral analyst Laura Richards on the series.
Together, and with the assistance of many others involved in the original case, they will attempt and solve the mystery of Ramsey’s death “once and for all.”
The Case of JonBenét Ramsey premieres September 18 on CBS.
