The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5 Recap: Tension at Hilltop

Have you been missing Maggie?

If so, then you were in for a treat on The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5 as we got to see just how fractured leadership was at the Hilltop Colony.

If you watch The Walking Dead online, you’ll know that Maggie and Sasha made a break for the colony after Negan murdered both Abraham and Glen on The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1

It’s definitely not scenes you could easily forget, but catching up with the characters was pretty intriguing.

Maggie got some much-needed confirmation that her pregnancy was going as planned.

However, she was told to rest up for a few days to get over the emotional trauma she was put threw watching her baby daddy being brutally murdered.

When she and Sasha went to pay their respects to their fallen friends, Gregory showed up and made it clear he wanted Maggie out of the colony because he didn’t want to have any more dealings with the Alexandria crowd.

This was a bit rich when you consider the fact that the Alexandria group only went to war with the saviors to save Gregory’s people.

Sasha and Maggie were quick to point this out, but he didn’t give a damn.

He revealed that Maggie could stay the night, but she would be leaving first thing in the morning.

So much for the hospitality he gave her when she was wheeling and dealing with him last year.

Gregory was no doubt terrified at the prospect of the Saviors showing up and attacking his people.

There’s no telling what Negan would do if he got wind of Gregory’s involvement.

That night, Maggie and Sasha were shocked to the core when the gates to the colony were knocked down and a car was in the courtyard with loud music.

This was drawing all of the walkers into the colony and making things very difficult.

Sasha pleaded with Maggie to stay in the trailer while she went off on her own to save them.

Pretty much as soon as Sasha made her escape from the trailer, Maggie was out in the open and barking orders at people.

Even though she was ill, she knew what she had to do in order to save everyone. She got in a tractor and ran over the car until the music stopped playing. It really was the best course of action and it proved she’s a natural leader.

The next morning, Jesus, Maggie and Sasha pled their case to Gregory to allow them to stay, but they were stopped in their tracks by the arrival of the Saviors.

Maggie and Sasha were put in hiding to avoid being murdered.

Simon and the group of the saviors went into the house and immediately started laying down the law.

Gregory was trying every trick in the book in order to get them away.

He offered them everything he could, but he lost all of his alcohol and art.

It was a thrilling turn of events, but it was needed to show that absolutely no group is safe from the wrath of the Saviors.

After the meeting, Maggie went to Gregory to tell him she would not be leaving and that he was to quit calling her names.

He obviously felt defeated after losing most of his inventory and looking pretty stupid.

Maggie was then shocked to the core when Enid showed up. Enid hitched a ride with Carl and the two of them seemed to get a lot closer.

It would be such a shame if they never got the chance to meet up again.

Couples just don’t seem to have a long shelf life on this show.

Right now, Carl is on his way to Negan’s base with Jesus, but what is their master plan?

The episode was pretty solid overall, but there were some minor issues.

Simon was a little too nice to Gregory compared to the way Negan would have acted.

The show seems to be taking some of the characters in interesting directions, but who will die next?

There’s always death on this show and we have went a few weeks without it.

Could we be in for another massacre?

What did you think of the episode?

Sound off below!

The Walking Dead: Slammed by PTC for "Explicit" Violence

The Walking Dead is the highest-rated show on television, largely for one main reason:

Blood, gore, violence, death.

Okay, that’s more like four reasons.

But the point remains: people tune in to this AMC smash hit because they want to see just how brutal things can get between our group of heroes and the walkers or rival humans who want to kill them.

To some, however, The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 crossed a line.

It featured a pair of deaths (Abraham and Glenn), both of which took place at the hands of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan.

To be more specific, these deaths took place at the BAT of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, which continuously slammed into Abraham and Glenn’s skulls until they were long gone.

And while 17 million people watched the premiere, making it the second-most popular episode in series history, many of them were turned off by what they witnessed.

To wit:

Danai Gurira (Michonne) understands where a lot of these complaints came from, but she told Good Morning America yesterday that “it was very important for us to see and feel that loss, because that loss transforms everybody. It’s devastating.”

It was also gross.

And that’s where The Parents Television Council comes in.

The conservative watchdog organization blasted Sunday’s episode premiere of The Walking Dead Season 7 in a statement that reads as follows:

“Last night’s season premiere of The Walking Dead was one of the most graphically violent shows we’ve ever seen on television, comparable to the most violent of programs found on premium cable networks.

“It’s not enough to ‘change the channel,’ as some people like to advocate, because cable subscribers – regardless of whether they want AMC or watch its programming – are still forced to subsidize violent content.

“This brutally explicit show is a powerful demonstration of why families should have greater control over the TV networks they purchase from their cable and satellite providers.”

The Parents Television Council has issued strongly-worded statements against episodes of TV shows.

It once bashed Glee for its depiction of reckless teen sex.

But it may at least have more of a case in this case than it had previously when finding faults with various programs.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, Winter said the premiere “from start to finish” and its degree and volume of violence “set a new threshold for basic cable.”

He added that the episode should even raise the question of if there should be a rating beyond TV-MA, which is what this episode earned.

“I understand violence is inherent to the storytelling here but the manner in which the depictions were made … it crossed the line,” Winter said, expounding:

“With The Walking Dead, the creative team has resorted to the graphic violence as a crutch for what used to be better storytelling. When you can’t figure out what lines to write, you put something in easier, which is a graphic depiction.

“To me, it’s too much.”

Do you agree? Did The Walking Dead premiere cross a line of gore and/or violence?

The Walking Dead Preview: A Slice of Season 7

The Walking Dead returned with a bang on Sunday night.

Or, to be more precise, The Walking Dead returned with a bat on Sunday night.

And that bat was slammed into the heads of two main characters, both of whom were killed off the show in very gruesome fashion.

Rest in peace, Abraham. And rest in peace, Glenn.

Both of these heroes lost their lives at the hands of Negan on The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1, with the drama’s most frightening villain to date making it very clear that he’s in charge.

But don’t take our word it.

Take the word of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes.

“Let me put this to all of you as clearly as I can,” he says in the extended preview above. “I’m not in charge anymore. Negan is.”

Elsewhere in this trailer, we see Daryl getting shown the scary ropes of the Saviors’ territory by Dwight, as Negan makes another point clear:

“I don’t think you get it yet,” he says. “You work for me.”

Aside from the promo featured here, AMC also released a clip from next Sunday’s new installment, which is titled “The Well.”

It features Carol on the mend in the Kingdom with Morgan, who tells his friend of the Kingdom leader: “He does his own thing.”

“Uh, what does that mean?” she asks.

The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere has received some backlash for just how violent it was, setting a new standard even for a show who has violence to thank for its immense popularity.

Why did we need to see Glenn’s eyes pop out?

Why did the camera need to linger on his lifeless body in such a manner?

Explained director Greg Nicotero in a conference call with reporters today:

“It was important to launch us into this season by showing the extent of what Negan is capable of doing, because that drives so much of where the series is going from here on in.”

Moreover, to him Nicotero seeing Rick, “our hero, completely crushed… is more disturbing than the actual violence.”

Some folks out there might disagree.

Did YOU think the premiere was too violent? Did the series go too far on Sunday night?

Why did two people need to get killed off?

“We really needed to drive Rick and Negan’s story throughout the season, and we felt that one death would do the trick, but the second death – Glenn’s death – really propels us into a very different direction,” Nicotero said, adding:

[That second murder is] really about Negan laying down the law. So [it] has a lot to do with Rick’s future story, Maggie’s future story and certainly Daryl’s future story.”

Interesting.

You can use the following video to watch The Walking Dead online and see what the controversy was all about now:

Response to the premiere has been less than positive, with fans upset over the blood, gore and violence… along with perceived manipulation of producers waiting until halfway through the hour to reveal Negan’s victims.

What does Nicotero have to say to those who have threatened to stop watching?

“Listen… I’ve been shocked at the turns of events on [Game of Thrones]. But you know what? I still love it. And I’m still committed to seeing where that story goes.

“So I think it’s a kneejerk reaction that people have, because they care about these characters. That’s a tribute to every single actor on our show that has perished.

“It’s unfortunate that people want to take a negative spin on it… [and especially] if that’s really what’s going to happen [and they’ll stop watching], because the show still has a lot to offer!”

WILL YOU KEEP WATCHING THE WALKING DEAD?

The Walking Dead Star Responds to Backlash

The Walking Dead returned for Season 7 last night and we are still trying to hold back the tears about how it all played out.

We knew we were losing one much-loved character, but we had no idea there would be a second just mere moments later.

The scenes were nothing short of gruesome. Steven Yeun’s character, Glenn got one of the most violent deaths to ever be televised.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Negan, bashed Glenn’s head in with such force that his eye popped out.

Gulp.

In advance of the new season debuting, we were promised that what went down would change the show forever.

However, we didn’t quite expect the show to alienate a lot of fans.

Social media was ablaze last night with viewers taking aim at the producers for airing the scenes.

Have a look at some of the responses below:

TWD Backlash 1

TWD Backlash 2

TWD Backlash 3

TWD Backlash 4

TWD Backlash 5

TWD Backlash 6

Basically, fans are not happy with the way it all played out and they may well begin boycotting the show.

In the midst of the backlash, Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on the AMC hit has opened up about how she feels about the backlash.

Danai took to Good Morning America to chat about her thoughts on how it all played out.

She started things off by opening up about what it was like to keep quiet about who was murdered by Negan.

“It was a lot. It was a pretty long time that we had to hold that in. There were folks who were playing Inspector Gadget with us. They’re like, ‘So you’re in Atlanta…’ When you’re in New York or in L.A., they’re like, ‘So you’re in New York. But are you shooting? It shoots right now!’ So you’re dodging it all the time.”

The show went back into production months ago, and given how producers did not want it to leak who died, they filmed more than one person being attacked.

Those scenes were spliced through the episode, but it was a good tactic so nothing actually was revealed.

Amy Robach then spoke out about how the violence made her feel sick.

I thought it was very, very powerful to lose characters that we love that dearly, who are such astounding characters, who are, in so many ways, the heart and soul of the show,” she explained.

“To lose them, I thought it was very important for us to see and feel that loss, because that loss transforms everybody. It’s devastating.”

Maybe the reason Gurira sees the whole thing differently is that she was there when all of the fake blood was around, but viewers got to see the finished product and nothing else.

Still, what did viewers expect?

The show does pride itself in being one of the most gruesome around.

Have a look at the full video of the interview to find out what else Gurira had to say about the new season.

What do you think about all of this?

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1: Batter Up!

Finally, right?

We finally have the answer we’ve been waiting for ever since The Walking Dead signed off many months ago with one of the most controversial cliffhangers in TV history.

WHO DID NEGAN KILL?

Ever since the AMC drama signed off with this villain swinging his bat at the head of an unidentified main character, fans have been clamoring to find out just who would be written off the series.

And The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 did not disappoint.

At least not in terms of delivering a pair of legitimate death blows.

We learned right away that Rick survived (of course) because the premiere opened with Negan having already  “taken his turn at bat,” prompting our leader to swear that Negan will one day pay with his own life.

After dragging Rick away for a little one-on-one time, the show flashed back to Negan’s first kill:

Rest in peace, Abraham.

After the first blow, Sgt. Ford spat back at his killer, telling him to “Suck. My. Nuts.”

Instead, Negan continued to bash his skull in with Lucille.

“Look at my dirty girl,” he said of the weapon, holding it in front of Rosita.

When she couldn’t look at the bat, Daryl leapt to her defense, which led to Negan’s second kill. Yes, his second kill.

“I need you to know me,” he told the Alexandrians, quickly striking Glenn so hard in his head that he made his eyes pop.

Before Negan finished off this murder, though, Glenn turned to his wife and vowed: “Maggie, I’ll find you.”

Proving himself to be a legitimate psychopath, Negan then joked that Lucille was still thirsty because she is a “vampire bat.”

After Negan finally departed, taking Daryl with him because he was impressed that Daryl was “not a little bitch,” Maggie blamed herself for Glenn and all of them having been out there in the first place.

And Abraham and Glenn’s bodies were picked up by their friends and loved ones, viewers were treated to a glimpse of a gorgeous future that would never be.

In this future, everyone was together.

Abraham was alive… and so was Glenn, but that’s not all. He was alive with his and Maggie’s baby on his lap.

“We still have a lot more to do,” creator Robert Kirkman appeared on Talking Dead last night, adding:

“We’re setting the stage for a lot more to come. There is so much that comes out of this scene that has to be resolved. We felt like, as many years as we’ve been doing this, we wanted to send a clear message that we are just getting started and there is a lot that is going to be coming from this.”

Use the following video to watch The Walking Dead online and then respond to the poll below:

We’ve seen The Walking Dead feature some pretty brutal murders before, but nothing like what happened to Abraham and, most notably, Glenn.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Trailer: Who Dies?!?

AMC has released the premiere date and the first official trailer for The Walking Dead Season 7.

First, we can confirm that new episodes of the cable smash hit will kick off on Sunday, October 23 at 9/8c.

This exciting tidbit was dropped today at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Next, we can offer fans a look at scenes from fall installments, as the network has also unveiled the first extended Walking Dead Season 7 preview.

We need to first warn you that, no, the identity of the man or woman on the receiving end of Negan"s baseball bat is not revealed in the video below.

We still don"t know which series regular will not be with us come October. (Although we have our theories!)

The intriguing trailer opens with misty water-colored memories of all the characters (and we mean ALL the character) who might be coming back just long enough to say a violent farewell.

We also get a glimpse one of the new settings to come this year, along with a character from the graphic novel series who is making his long-anticipated debut.

Oh, yes, you can watch here for your first look of Ezekiel (played by newcomer Khary Payton), the ma in charge of a never-before-seen community of survivors known as The Kingdom.

Let"s just say he has a pet tiger.

He also appears to have the kind of resources that Rick may need to defeat Negan once and for all.

(Assuming Rick survives, that is, but come on. We all know Rick is going to survive.)

Check out the trailer below, post your comment with your thoughts on who got killed by Negan and let the countdown to The Walking Dead Season 7 begin!
