He’s a free man!
Though his sentence stated that he was to be released in September, rapper Gucci Mane walked out of an Indiana prison this morning, according to TMZ.
The rapper’s lawyer, Drew Findling confirmed that Mane is out, and that he’ll be on house arrest for a few months, followed by probation.
Mane has several prior convictions. In 2005 he was behind bars for assault. In 2009 he violated his probation and went to jail for a year.
Mane violated probation again in 2013, and in May 2014 pled guilty to firearm possession, receiving a 39-month prison sentence.
His initial sentence also required that he “seek mental health treatment” following his release, and he’s been ordered to pay a restitution of $ 5,000, as well as give up all firearms listed in the indictment, according to CNN.
“I hope this sentence sends a strong message that we simply will not tolerate this type of irresponsible, criminal behavior from anyone, regardless of who they are,” Atlanta Police Chief George Turner stated following Mane’s sentence.
According to Complex, while Mane was in prison, his team released music to keep the rapper relevant. When his house arrest is up, Mane is expected to go on tour.
Fans found out about his release when his girlfriend, Keyshia Ka’oir, shared a Snapchat of herself kissing his hand and giddily telling the camera, “I missed my baby so much!”
Mane was borne Radric Davis on February 12th, 1980. He released his first album, Trap House in 2005, and followed that up a year later with two more, Hard to Kill and Trap-A-Thon.
Fans are most familiar with his mixtapes, as well as his collaborations with Mariah Carey, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne and T.I.
After news of his release broke today, Mane was a trending topic on Twitter.
