Johnny Depp & Kate Moss: Does the Actor Have a History of Abuse?

As you’ve likely heard by now, Amber Heard has accused Johnny Depp of physically assaulting her during an altercation that took place in the couple’s home last Saturday night.

Several of the couple’s famous friends have expressed their doubts about Heard’s allegations, including the mother of Depp’s two children, Vanessa Paradis.

Paradis defended Depp in a handwritten letter that was obtained by TMZ last week, writing:

“In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.”

Depp’s first wife, Lori Anne Easton, whom he was married to from 1983 to 1985, also offered some kind words in the actor’s defense, describing Depp as a “soft person” who was always incredibly kind to children and animals.

Both Paradis and Easton say they can’t imagine the actor ever laying a hand on a woman, but it’s worth noting that Depp’s marriage to Heard is not his first notoriously volatile relationship.

In her 2014 tell-all, Champagne Supernova, author Maureen Chapman describes Depp’s cocaine and booze-fueled relationship with model Kate Moss:

“In one sitting, [Moss] could snort three grams of coke and drink a bottle of vodka, which a doctor says was the best liquor for preserving her looks,” Chapman writes.

She adds that Depp was one of the only men Moss had ever met who could keep up with her herculean consumption of drugs and alcohol, and perhaps not surprisingly, that passion and shared love of intoxicants eventually bubbled over into violence.

On September 13, 1994, Depp was arrested after allegedly trashing his and Moss’ room at New York’s Mark Hotel during a drunken argument.

The couple called it quits in 1997, but they were banned from another hotel – this time the famed Hotel Du Cap in Cannes – during their brief, tempestuous reconciliation in 1998.

Moss has described the relationship as intensely passionate, and she says she cried for months after she and Depp finally called it quits.

So it seems Depp is an intensely emotional man when he’s in love.

It’s worth noting, however, that despite their unstable nature of their relationship, Moss has never accused Depp of striking her.
