She put proceedings on hold to take care of him when he needed it.
Now, Khloe Kardashian made the tough choice to move on with her life and file for divorce a second time from estranged husband, Lamar Odom.
It was bound to happen at some point, since this the only way both Kardashian and Odom can move on.
Sources close to the couple told TMZ that the main reason for the second filing was because Kardashian wants kids.
“Khloe sat Lamar down recently and explained she wanted a family, and couldn’t even start the process of looking until she was single again,” the entertainment news site reports.
Just as she did on a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the reality star had to again explain to Odom that he nearly died after an October 2015 overdose.
Kardashian acted as his health proxy, and did not go forward with the divorce until she knew that Odom was capable of taking care of himself on a daily basis.
Now, she feels confident that he’s at that point, so she’s comfortable enough to let go.
Sources also claim that Kardashian has made it crystal-clear to loved ones that she and Odom never resumed their romantic relationship following her initial filing in December 2013.
Odom, for his part, is said to understand that they both need to move forward.
Back in April, Radar Online reported that Kris Jenner had a serious talk with her daughter about where she and Odom stood.
“Khloe has told Kris that she wants to get married and have babies, like her sisters, and Kris gently told her that she didn’t think that was possible with Lamar anymore,” the source said.
“That maybe he had too many problems for them to have a successful life together.”
It’s worth pointing out that painting Jenner as a villain isn’t fair.
“Kris really loves Lamar. She loves all of her kids and their partners, but she doesn’t think that Khloe has a future with Lamar.
“And she doesn’t want her to wait around for him anymore.”
In the filing, Kardashian has requested that she be able to drop Odom’s last name legally, and go back to her maiden name.
