Kendall Jenner Reveals Hypochondria & How She Copes With Anxiety

The most recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians showed Kendall Jenner freaking out and left Kris worried that she might need to drive Kendall to the hospital.

Anxiety issues can be serious, and Kendall’s opened up about her struggles the past.

But now she’s revealing exactly how bad things get — and how she’s learned to cope.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians showed a concerned momager Kris Jenner, after speaking to a distraught Kendall who was suffering from an anxiety attack, explain Kendall’s situation.

“Kendall struggles from anxiety, and I think she has so much going on that she gets herself really worked up.”

Some people think that more people face anxiety disorders than ever, but it seems more likely that people are seeking treatment and talking about their struggles instead of quietly self-medicating.

“Kendall gets the most anxious during fashion week, or when she’s traveling a lot.”

That makes a lot of sense. Those are extremely high-pressure situations. Especially for someone with Kendall’s fame.

“Trying to juggle it all is overwhelming.”

When Kendall learns that she is not anemic — as she had believed that she was — Kris affectionately points out that Kendall is often healthier than she believes.

“I think you think you have everything.”

Kendall agrees.

“Since I was a kid, I’ve always been a hypochondriac.”

Hypochondria, of course, is an obsession with the idea of having a serious but undiagnosed medical condition. Many people use the term for people who constantly assume the worst about symptoms, or even for people who are germophobes.

“I’ve always been the worst hypochondriac. But now I have to try and be a big girl.”

Kendall then speaks about certain, specific causes for anxiety.

“There’s a lot that happened this past year, starting with like, Kim’s robbery.”

We all think about the trauma that Kim endured. It’s the sort of horror that can transform a person’s life — or even ruin it. But Kim’s family was obviously affected by it.

“Then I got robbed, and I had my stalkers. That’s why I don’t really like going out anymore.”

It sounds like Kendall’s healthy sense of precaution has developed into an unhealthy paranoia.

“That’s why I don’t tweet, that’s why I don’t Instagram. That gives me anxiety, too. I swear, it’s the craziest thing.”

Kris talks to Kendall about how she hopes that her daughter will find a way to cope, with or without her.

“What I want to know is what’s the solution for the next time.”

The most obvious way to resolve debilitating anxiety in the moment is perhaps some deep breaths, a distraction, and a healthy dose of benzodiazepines.

“Because I worry about you and I know you want to do a great job.”

Kendall would be horrified if her anxiety prevented her from doing her modeling job.

“I want to be able to help you to get a place where you can be out there and not feel anxious.”

Kendall has opened up about anxiety before, and she’s still speaking about the things that contribute to it.

“I don’t think any of us have taken the time to process what’s been happening over the past year — almost two years, even.”

Like so many of us — perhaps most of us — Kendall is consumed by the daily existential terror of living in a terrifying world where every news update is something out of a nightmare.

“And I think that that is a factor in a lot of this. It’s hard to get your brain to slow down and think about it and really process what’s happening.”

Monitoring the news and thinking about the future can be good things. But perseverating on them can make you a prisoner in your own mind.

“Now that I can sit here and verbally say that, I think that will help me with the steps to take the time and really address it.”

Kris has been open about how Kendall’s struggle impacts her.

“It’s hard for me to watch my daughter struggle and I feel like it’s my job to make sure she’s okay, which is really why I’m here in Milan.”

It’s so great that Kendall can rely upon Kris — and Caitlyn, depending upon the situation — to help her when she’s an anxious mess.

Plenty of people with anxiety disorders find that everything is so much worse around their families. That must be really nice for Kendall.

Kris has every confidence in her daughter.

“But I realize that Kendall is one of the most independent women I’ve ever met in my life, and she can get to the root of the issue and the problem by herself.”

Kendall talks about how she copes.

“Anxiety is all mental, so you have to try and find your ways around it.”

Sure … though if Kendall is suggesting that mental troubles are easier to overcome than physical, many would argue that the opposite is true.

“I try and maintain it, but sometimes it’s out of your control.”

That’s absolutely right.

Kendall maintains a healhty sense of perspective, however, to try to talk herself out of worries.

“But I think I’m very blessed to be in the situation I’m in, and every year that I do fashion months it gets a little bit easier. It’s really exciting. I still look forward to it every year.”
