Nancy Lee Grahn Apologizes for Slamming Viola Davis Emmy Speech

It may have been the highlight of the 2015 Emmy Awards:

Viola Davis became the first African-American to ever win Lead Actress in a Drama, breaking into tears on stage, quoting Harriet Tubman and earning a standing ovation.

You can watch the stirring speech above.

Nearly everyone who watched the Emmys cited Davis’ triumph as a step in the right direction for Hollywood… all except Nancy Lee Grahn, that is.

“I wish I loved #ViolaDavis Speech, but I thought she should have let @shondarhimes write it,” the General Hospital star wrote, citing the Grey’s Anatomy creator and How to Get Away with Murder producer.

Along with quoting Tubman and giving props to fellow stars Kerry Washington and Halle Berry, Davis said:

“The only thing that separates women of color from everyone else is opportunity… You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.

“So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people – people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.”

Grahn took issue with this message.

“I think she’s the bees knees but she’s elite of TV performers. Brilliant as she is. She has never been discriminated against…

“Try being any woman in TV. Wish she’d brought every woman in the picture. I wish I’d opportunity to play roles she gets.”

Following major backlash (note to pretty much all Caucasians: refrain from ever telling an African-American that he or she has never faced discrimination), Grahn jumped back on Twitter and wrote the following:

Viola Davis winning lead actress Emmy’s historic. My upset is acting awards dont fix racial injustice. As an actor I see how irrelevant we r. I never mean to diminish her accomplishment. She is a goddess. I want equality 4 ALL women, not just actors.

We’re sure Davis would say the same.

Oprah Winfrey, Diddy, Kerry Washington, & Other Celebs React Viola Davis" Historic Win At The 2015 Emmys!

Get your tissues ready!

As we previously reported, Viola Davis made history last night as the FIRST black woman to win the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series award at the 2015 Emmys. AH-Mazing!

Like any class act, the How To Get Away With Murder star made sure to highlight Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, and Taraji P. Henson as artists who helped pave the way for her win!

After their shoutout, Gabrielle and Kerry were quick to respond with praise for Viola (below) on Twitter.

We’re not sure what was more moving, the Suicide Squad actress’ incredible speech or the outpouring of love for Viola on Twitter following her win?! LOVES it.

In fact, many of Hollywood’s A-list joined Miz Union and Miz Washington on the social media site to send their praise and adoration to the 50-year-old — including Oprah Winfrey, Diddy, Laverne Cox, and many more.

Viola Davis" Emmy Speech Will Bring You to Tears

How to Get Away with Murder star Viola Davis made history at the Emmy Awards as the first African-American winner of Best Actress in a Drama.

She reacted to that victory in amazing fashion.

The woman who bring lawyer and law school professor Annalise Keating to life used the occasion to speak on racial inequality in Hollywood.

She also movingly thanked all those who helped her get the leading role, channeling Harriet Tubman"s moving quote about racial divides:

"The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is simply opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there."

"So here"s to all the writers, the awesome people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black."

Thanking many executives, including Shonda Rhimes, Davis also praised a series of black female actresses, some of them in the audience.

"And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union, thank you."

"Thank you for taking us over that line," she said as the camera cut to the tearful Scandal and Empire stars, who were on their feet cheering.

Kim Davis Is Allegedly Still Altering Marriage Licenses And Interfering With Court Orders, According To A Deputy County Clerk!

Well so much for Kim Davis finding a compromise…

According to reports, the disgraced county clerk from Rowan County, Kentucky, is once again interfering with court orders — and apparently altering marriage licenses!

Brian Mason, the deputy clerk for Rowan County, has told reporters that:

“[Davis] may have altered forms used in the marriage licensing process, raising questions over the validity of licenses issued in the county.”

Of course, Davis — who was jailed for five days after she refused to do her job and issue marriage licenses — now appears to be violating the very condition that took her out of jail.

Mason goes on to claim more:

“[Davis] handed out an altered form that did not include her name and does not mention the county.”

According to Mason’s lawyer, Richard Hughes, that’s a problem:

“Those changes were made in some attempt to circumvent the court’s orders and may have raised to the level of interference against the court’s orders.”

That’s disgusting. Supposedly, Davis’ crusade was about her “religious freedom,” but now that the state of Kentucky has found a way to provide her with her own freedom of religion and allow same-sex couples to marry as is the law, Davis finds another way to get involved…

That just proves that this has never been about Davis’ religious freedoms, but rather her straight up bigotry against same-sex couples.

Kristen Stewart Just Feels Sorry for Kim Davis

The topic of Kim Davis has invoked many strong feelings across both sides of the aisle.

The Kentucky clerk, who was jailed for refusing to grant gay couples a marriage license, has prompted some to passionately defend her religious freedom… and others to rail against her blatant law-breaking.

But Davis has not inspired anger or defiance from Kristen Stewart.

Instead, she has simply inspired pity.

“Did you see her come out of jail?” Stewart says in an interview with The Daily Beast, referring to the video (below) of Davis thanking God and holding the hand of Mike Huckabee after being released.

Added the actress:

“Honestly, it makes me so deeply uncomfortable. I feel really bad for her. Anyone who’s so closed off to things that are so apparent?

“Imagine what else she’s missing out on in life.”

Stewart plays a character named Nia in her latest film, which is titled Equals.

It’s an appropriate title, in Stewart’s opinion, when the topic of gay marriage is broached.

She doesn’t understand why anyone out there would be opposed to the concept of equality, especially when it comes to love and happiness.

“I feel bad for her,” Stewart says of Davis. “That fear of the unknown cripples people, breeds hate, and it’s just very sad.”

And where does Stewart stand on the topic of gay marriage? She has a simple take when the interviewer describes “denying anyone that basic human right” and how it “can drive people crazy.”

“Abso-fucking-lutely. It is crazy.”

This Cell Block Tango Parody About Kim Davis Is The Funniest Thing You"ll See All Day!

This is just TOO perfect.

On Monday, one YouTube user made it clear he had a lot of strong feelings about Kim Davis‘ refusal to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples.

User Randy Rainbow took to the video streaming site to share a silly and perfect parody to Cell Block Tango from Chicago, and it’s all about the Kentucky clerk!

[ Video: Did Candace Cameron Skip The View To Avoid Kim Davis Topic? ]

He sings about her bigotry, her biggest fan, Mike Huckabee, and her jail time, so its only fitting that he selected a song to spoof that’s about being in prison! LOL!

Now, even though it was uploaded before she was released, it’s definitely still worth a watch! Ch-ch-check it out (below)!
