James Gunn: Dropped from Guardians of the Galaxy Franchise Over Old, Controversial Tweets
James Gunn has been fired as director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
The decision to remove Gunn from the project arrived on Friday after conservative uncovered old tweets by Gunn in which the filmmaker joked about controversial topics such as pedophilia and rape.
Gunn has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump over the past several months and, some believe, had been targeted by Republicans such as Jack Posobiec.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Gunn did write the Tweets in question.
“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement announcing Gunn’s departure.
Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and was hired awhile back to helm its follow-up.
The very old Tweets at the center of this scandal have since been deleted, but Internet users posted screenshots that appear to show the director had written jokes about assault and other subjects.
A sample: “Laughter is the best medicine. That’s why I laugh at people with AIDS.”
Another: “The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!"”
On Thursday, in response to this growing scandal, Gunn Tweeted:
“Many people who have followed my career know, when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo.
“As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”
He continued:
“It’s not to say I’m better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger.
“My days saying something just because it’s shocking and trying to get a reaction are over.”
Most of the inappropriate messages were sent in 2008 and 2009.
They were dug up by conservative outlet The Daily Caller.
Gunn issued a statement on Friday afternoon, saying that he “regretted” the tweets in question and stressed that “they don’t reflect the person I am today.”
The director added in his lengthy response to the flap:
Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today.
Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then.
All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse.
To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.
Gunn has been penning the script for Guardians 3, and the film was expected to begin shooting in Atlanta in the fall for an expected 2020 release date.
He had been keeping fans apprised of his progress via social media messages such as the following:

Teen Mom 2: Who"s the Real MVP of This Season ... and Franchise!?
It is about to be totally on between the Teen Mom 2 cast members, THG Nation. No, there"s no new scandal you missed.
There was no fresh shade thwon between Kailyn Lowry, Jenelle Evans, Briana DeJesus, Chelsea Houska or Leah Messer.
But there is a debate to be had.
Over the past several months, we"ve been exposed to one explosive fight after another; one allegation of child abuse after …
… actually, there"s been just one allegation of child abuse so far, but that"s a story for another time (and another time, and another).
Bottom line: the prominence of Teen Mom 2 news and gossip has forced us to think about this MTV show more than ever.
With many arguments breaking out within THG Headquarters, our staff has decided to come together below to settle this:
WHO IS THE MVP OF TEEN MOM 2? Below, we make the case for Kail, Jenelle, Briana, Chelsea and Leah …
1. Kailyn Lowry: The Resilient Success Story.
As with any Teen Mom 2 star, Kailyn has had her ups and downs. She became a mother at 17 years old while appearing on the second season of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. First, fans watched Kail grapple with a lack of support from her family. Being pregnant as teenager is hard enough without having rely upon your baby daddy’s family.
2. Unlucky in Love
Then, on Teen Mom 2, fans have gotten to watch this unlucky-in-love mother struggle with romance, additional pregnancies, and with co-parenting. Once you dig through the ins and outs with Javi Marroquin, the sometimes frightening drama with Chris Lopez, and all of the frustrations of being a reality star, she’s a mom.
3. She’s Their Whole World
To Isaac, Lincoln, and baby Lux, Kailyn is their whole world. And though her taste in men leaves much to be desired, she is a much, much better parent than some of her co-stars. She seems to have mastered co-parenting as much as anyone in her situation possibly could, juggling holiday events with baby daddies and even their extended families.
4. Kail Does Not Mince Words
On top of everything else, Kail is not afraid to be open and honest with her fans on social media, whether it’s about her bisexuality or her careful decisions regarding plastic surgeries.
5. Hustle and Heart
She’s taken plenty of flak for having three kids with three different guys, but Lowry’s not looking for handouts. She recently graduated from Delaware State and is always hustling – whether it’s promoting products, her own books and podcast, or embarking in other business ventures.
6. Never a Dull Moment

MTV to Revive Jersey Shore Franchise Via... Floribama Shore?!?
MTV is bringing back Jersey Shore.
Sort of.
Inspired by the long-ago success of the aforementioned reality series, followed by the more recent success of Siesta Key, the network has announced Floribama Shore.
Yes, Floribama Shore.
That"s the actual name of the series.
The program will be set in the Florida Panhandle, along the beach that stretches all the way to Alabama, as previewed in the official press release.
It goes on to say the following:
"MTV Floribama Shore” is the story of eight young adults who come to spend the summer in the hottest beach town on the Gulf Coast, Panama City Beach, to party it up and put the real world on hold for just a little bit longer.
But each is armed with incredible life experiences and standing at a crossroads, whether it’s ending a relationship, tasting independence for the first time, or trying to escape the past.
This coming of age story captures the very real thrill and angst of being young and trying to figure out the future with a group of people you’ll come to call family.
What do we know about these cast members?
Not a lot. We can"t for sure who will be the next The Situation.

Briana DeJesus Makes OFFICIAL Return to Teen Mom Franchise!
We’ve known for quite some time that Briana DeJesus will be joining the cast of Teen Mom 2.
(Like her co-stars, Briana’s not great at keeping secrets.)
But it wasn’t until last night that DeJesus made her return official by announcing it on the network that made her famous.
Briana was one of the stars of the first and only season of Teen Mom 3 back in 2013.
Producers reportedly considered several options with regard to which one of the ladies to bring back to the franchise, but ultimately decided that Briana and her daughter Nova had the most to offer in terms of compelling drama.
The 23-year-old also confirmed another important detail during last night’s Teen Mom: OG after-show:
Briana is pregnant with her second child, a baby girl that she plans to name Stella.
“I really wanted a boy, but there’s not much I can do,” she told last night’s audience.
“I’m just excited now because it’s going to be a bunch of females under one roof. It’s all of us—me, my mother, my sister, Nova and now Stella.”
Briana says fans will get a very different impression of her this time around, as motherhood has made her more responsible and more aware of what’s important in her life.
“[Nova’s] 5, and she can watch back,” Briana said of her first stint as a reality star.
“She can see now. That’s my number one regret. I was so naïve, so caught up, so stupid. Now, I’ve learned better.”
Unfortunately, there are some things Briana can’t control, and it seems that despite her best efforts, baby daddy drama is still a big part of her life:
“He’s not the best father he should be to Nova,” Briana said bluntly, when asked about her the father of her first child.
Unfortunately, it looks as though things may not be much better with her second baby daddy, Luis.
“I don’t know how to say it,” Briana tells her mother and sister in a preview clip that debuted last night. “He’s been cheating on me this whole time.”
Some of her co-stars are not happy about Briana joining the cast of Teen Mom 2, but judging from the response on social media, it seems fans are psyched about a fresh face on the long-running series.
And based on what we saw last night, it seems she should have no trouble delivering the drama that both audiences and producers crave.
