Joe Jackson Dies; Father of Michael and Janet Was 89
Sad news out of the music world today, as Joe Jackson, the father of legendary entertainers Michael and Janet Jackson has passed away at the age of 89.
It was reported last week that Jackson was battling pancreatic cancer and had been given a grim prognosis by doctors.
At the time, the Jackson family confirmed to People magazine that Joe was “not doing well,” and was not expected to recover.
“He’s very, very frail, he doesn’t have long. The family needs to be by his bedside — that’s our only intention in his final days,” Joe’s son Jermaine Jackson told The Daily Mail.
Moments ago, grandsons Randy Jackson Jr. and Taj Jackson confirmed the news with a series of tweets, writing:
“RIP to the king that made everything possible! I love you grandpa” and “Joe was loved by the entire family and our hearts are in pain. Let us grieve.”
Born in Fountain Hill, Arkansas in 1928, Jackson encouraged his sons to form a pop music group while the family was living in Gary, Indiana in the early 1960s.
Eventually, younger sons Marlon and Michael began singing with their brothers, and the group was subsequently known as The Jackson 5.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Serving as the group’s mamnager, Joe guided his sons on a meteroric rise to fame.
Their 1969 debut album produced four consecutive number one hit singles, and the Jackson 5 quickly became one of the first black musical groups to gain a massive crossover following in the US.
But the success didn’t come without sacrifice.
Joe was a notoriously domineering father and manager, who often displayed abusive behavior during the band’s grueling rehearsal sessions.
As adults, Michael and his brothers spoke openly about the mistreatment they suffered at the hands of their father.
The siblings concluded, however, that Joe was genuinely contrite later in life, and they assured the public that they had all come to forgive him.
When Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, insiders claimed that no one took the loss harder than Joe.
Earlier this week, Joe alluded to his own impending demise, tweeting the above photo, along with a caption reading:
“I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see.
“The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes.”
Jackson is survived by his wife Katherine, as well as his sons Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy, and daughters Rebbie, La Toya and Janet.

Janet Jackson Calls Cops Due to Child Welfare Concern
According to multiple news outlets, Janet Jackson called the police on Saturday night because was concerned about the emotional and/or physical well-being of her one-year-old son, Eissa Al Mana.
He was with his father and the singer’s ex-husband at the time, Wissam Al Mana.
Per Entertainment Tonight, authorities in Malibu County responded to a call shortly before 10 p.m. at the Nobu Hotel, where they were asked to check on the welfare of Jackson’s only child.
Speaking to ET’s Kevin Frazier, Janet’s brother Randy explained that his sibling dialed 911 after being contacted by a nanny who was working for Al Mana.
This nanny said she was scared by the way Al Mana was acting.
Randy told the aforementioned website that the nanny was “terrified by his behavior and locked herself in a bathroom, so she could contact Janet.”
Yikes, huh?
Further details remain mostly unknown at this time, however.
Police did not find anyone on danger at the scene and reportedly told Janet and Wissam to handle the matter civility.
No charges of any kind will be filed.
Jackson and Al Mana welcomed their son on January 2, 2017… only to split up three months later.
What could have possibly happened? How did they get married and then choose to go their separate ways almost as soon as their family was established?
“One of the many divorcing factors was their religious beliefs,” a source told E! News early last year, adding:
“Wissam and Janet did not feel that they were on the same page when it came to this and the way they wanted their child to get raised.”
Interesting, right?
It appears as if Janet and her estranged spouse had conflict from the beginning over their son and how he ought to be raised/treated/taught.
Janet is more of a free spirit than Wissam. Cultural difference and backgrounds played a major role,” this same source said.
Jackson, meanwhile, has remained mostly off the radar and silent since becoming a first-time mother.
But she was recognized for her legendary career at the Billboard Music Awards in May, performing a medley of smash hits on stage and giving and impressive speech.
“I’m deeply humbled and grateful for this award,” she said, alluding to the #MeToo movement and the ongoing power of this feminist movement in society:
“I believe that for all the challenges… we live a great moment in history. It’s a moment that at long last women have made it clear that we will not be controlled, manipulated or abused.
“I stand with those women and those men.”
So very well said.

Paris Jackson: I Didn"t Even Know Janet Jackson Would Be Performing ...
Fans and viewers watched in awe as Janet Jackson totally owned the stage at the Billboard Music Awards.
But when the camera panned to some of her family in the audience, some folks were surprised and even saddened to see that Paris Jackson was nowhere to be seen.
Paris responded to the flurry of questions, but she’d really prefer for intrusive fans to mind their own beeswax. That’s fair.
Taking to social media, Paris writes:
“Dear social media followers, friends, stalkers, lovers and haters, and fellow moonwalkers:”
That is such a sweet and fun way of addressing everyone, including fans of her late father.
“Please do not tell me/demands/try to control how I handle my relationship with the people in my life.”
That is a very fair boundary to set with her fans. And she gets more specific.
“Specifically my family.”
Though she has used social media to clap back at family members who think she’s going to die, that was her conversation to reveal.
She says that her family’s highs and lows are very personal.
“As amazing and as s–tty as things can be, it is no one’s business but ours.”
But she acknowledges why so many fans lose perspective when it comes to the Jackson family.
“I understand that some of you feel some sort of connection or need to be a part of our lives considering you watched us grow up.”
She understands, but she’s very politely laying down the law.
“However, I am handling my situation exactly how my father did.”
Meaning that she is not going to spill specific details about family troubles.
“And I am happy keeping it that way.”
She emphasizes that, even when there are problems (which she isn’t denying), she loves her family.
“I will always have love and respect for my family. ALWAYS.”
Speaking to her fans who want to know more, she makes it clear that even a family that is considered American Royalty has normal family problems.
“Every family has their moments of trauma, heartbreak, separation, love, oneness, tribe, pain, everything. EVERY FAMILY.”
But because she is famous, their issues are consumed by millions.
“My family, specifically, and a good number of others … well, our drama is broadcasted worldwide through media.”
Just because something is widely reported does not make it unusual, however.
“But that doesn’t mean our family issues are any different from yours.”
Except, of course, in one major way.
“Ours are just made public.”
Paris continues, saying:
“Every level has another devil.”
That is a quote that is sometimes attributed to Tyrese Gibson.
“Every life has their own s–t to deal with.”
Truth.
“We ain’t inferior or superior to y’all. We’re all f–king human.”
She then takes that we’re all human line to shame the people who are demanding that she divulge family drama.
“So let’s act like it.”
She emphasizes that she loves her fans, however.
“I appreciate any and every person reading this.”
She also makes it clear that she’s not whining about her life, in case there was any doubt.
“And I’m grateful for everything in my life, positive and negative.”
When one tabloid took to Twitter to say that Paris’ statement hadn’t really cleared up anything, Paris responded.
Understandably, she got a little heated.
“And you clearly didn’t get the message. mind. your. own.”
Business. That’s what she wants people to mind.
“Should i spell it out for you in wooden alphabet blocks?”
We somehow doubt that this would make it clearer.
“No one told me about the performance or award. not my family or my management so take a hike dude.”
She has revealed recently that some members of her family have not called or otherwise contacted her for some time.
For those still curious about her business, Paris did offer a little further context to why she isn’t always in the loop on every single thing that members of her extended family get up to.
“i also have like a job and like a life i’m trying to provide for myself n my doggo.”
She’s a model and an actress, folks.
It is totally okay to wonder about what’s going on in the family of people whom you admire.
But when all that’s going on is some behind-the-scenes family drama and nobody’s getting hurt, try to avoid demanding answers from your faves.
They’re real people with real feelings.

Janet Jackson Just Totally Owned the Billboard Music Awards
Yup. She"s still got it, folks.
On Sunday night at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, Janet Jackson was honored with a career achivement tropy.
Prior to accepting the ICON award, however, the legendary artist got up on stage for her first performance in nine years, as well as her first performance ever as a mother.
(Jackson gave birth in early 2017. At the age of 50.)
After being introduced by Bruno Mars, Jackson took to the Las Vegas stage in a sparkling gold sweatshirt dress and shiny gold thigh-high shoes.
She opened her medley of beloved hits with “Nasty,” as her mother Katherine and other family members, including nephew Prince Michael, smiled from the crowd.
Janet then launched into her 1993 song “Throb," reminding everyone of just how long she"s been on the scene and just how many hits are in her catalog.
But it wasn"t just Jackson"s singing and dancing that brought attendees to their feet.
It was her sage and beautiful words afterward.
Upon accepting her well-earned award, Jackson praised the ongoing #MeToo movement, talking at length about this moment in our culture and in society.
“I’m deeply humbled and grateful for this award," she said, adding:
"I believe that for all the challenges… we live a great moment in history. It’s a moment that at long last women have made it clear that we will not be controlled, manipulated or abused.
"I stand with those women and those men.”
The 52-year-old became black woman to receive this distinction at the Billboard Music Awards.
But we can only hope she will not be the last.
Previous winners included Cher, Celine Dion, Prince, Jennifer Lopez and Neil Diamond.
"Our public discourse is loud and harsh," continued Janet.
"My prayer is that weary of such noise, we will turn back to the source of all calmness, that source is God.
"Everything we lack, God has in abundance: compassion, sensitivity, patience and boundless love.
"Again I want to thank all of you for this honor and I thank God for giving me the precious energy that lets me live my life as an artist who every day seeks to expand my capacity to love.”
