Lindsay Lohan is Writing a TV Show About Cool Russians, Apparently Doesn"t Watch the News

No one has ever really claimed that Lindsay Lohan has her finger on the pulse, so to speak.

We’re sure she’s taken her own pulse to gauge her overdose proximity on more than one occasion, but even at the height of her fame, Linds wasn’t exactly the kind of star that you look to to find out about the hottest cultural trends.

She’s more the type you look to if your connection just dried up and you’re starting to get the sweats.

Anyway, all of this is to say that Lindsay isn’t exactly a walking NPR, and living abroad for most of the past two years doesn’t seem to have done much to broaden her horizons.

Despite the fact that she has no experience behind the camera, and Hollywood has been spent the past decade treating her like she has a visible case of ringworm, and her knowledge of our geo-political is probably on par with that of an unusually bright ferret, Linds wants to try her hand at writing and directing a series about the fraught relationship between the US and Russia.

“She was saying she’s writing it with a partner for Netflix,” a source close to Lohan tells Page Six.

“And that they’re writing it every day while she’s in town. She described it as being about ‘Russian oligarchs’ — three princesses, and covering different ages.”

“She plans to act and co-direct or direct, but said she hasn’t decided yet.”

The source says that Lohan also described the show as “kind of like [Netflix series] ‘The OA,’ ” adding:

“She was saying she’s going to Moscow to see some of the people that are working on it with her.”

Now, to be clear: we’re not saying Russia should be off-limits in terms of stories being produced in Hollywood.

After all, The Americans has consistently been one of TV’s sharpest dramas for five seasons now.

But there are several key differences between Lindsay’s project and the acclaimed FX series:

For one thing, The Americans isn’t written by Lindsay Lohan.

We say that only partially in jest.

Lindsay has no professional writing experience, and as far as we know, she’s never even expressed an interest in putting pen to paper, so a full television series about life in a country that’s making daily headlines might be a bit ambitious for her first project.

On top of that, Linds might be a little too close to the source material.

Until recently, Lindsay was engaged to a rich Russian, and to the surprise of literally no one, it ended badly.

She might think this makes her just the person to write about the life of wealthy Mucovites.

She would be wrong.

On top of that, Lindsay might not want to remind the world about her own experience with international intrigue.

Lindsay did some work for the Turkish government recently, and both parties tried and failed to keep their arrangement on the down-low.

As General Michael Flynn is frequently being reminded these days, accepting money from a foreign government, but not registering as a foreign agent is actually kind of a big deal.

We know that Turkey and Russia are two different countries, but Linds might want to downplay her role as a latter day Carmen San Diego until this thing blows over.

Not surprisingly, Netflix has declined to comment on Lindsay’s planned project, so it’s possible that this show will only appear on a piece of cardboard that’s decorated to look in LiLo’s living room.

But screw that! Screw him!

Lindsay is now set to control her own fate on the next installment of this beloved franchise.

Get to know Rachel Lindsay very well via the following set of facts and tidbits…

Rachel Lindsay: I"m Engaged!!!!!!!!!

On a conference call with reporters yesterday, Rachel Lindsay did not reveal any The Bachelorette spoilers.

Not about the ABC series on which she’s about to star at least.

But the first-ever African-American to be featured as the object of desire on this competition did reveal a very important spoiler about herself, and that is this…

… she’s no longer a bachelorette!

She’s engaged!

Asked on the aforementioned call whether she’s in love or engaged, Lindsay did not hold back.

She didn’t reveal the name of her chosen suitor or offer any hints along that line, but she did come right out and confirm the following:

“I am very much so in love and very much so engaged!”

Can she tell us anything at all about the individual who apparently proposes at the conclusion of the upcoming season?

Nope. Not really. Not anything remotely specific, that is.

“Every morning I wake up and pinch myself and I keep asking myself if this is really happening,” she said, doing a solid job selling the romance.

“It’s crazy at times. I feel like I don’t even deserve this. I feel like I’m getting everything that I want and I am getting my happy ending.”

Wow. Lindsay nearly has us convinced that she’s really, truly in love and that her engagement is going to work out.

For her sake, we hope this is the case.

But those who watch The Bachelorette online each week and then follow the lives of the star and her winner after the series ends know better. These relationships simply never work out.

Lindsay advanced to the final three on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor and was confirmed as The Bachelorette almost immediately afterward.

She told Jimmy Kimmel at the time that she’s prepared to “put [herself] out there” in the hope of finding a “happy ending.”

And now it sounds as if that openness and honesty has paid off.

Just one day prior to her call with journalists, ABC announced the 31 suitors vying for Lindsay’s heart.

Yes, 31.

This is more than the number of men who typically kick off a season of The Bachelorette, but how could the network turn down some of these hopefuls?!?

As you can find out by clicking around below, one is a professional wrestler… one is a chiropractor… one is a former professional football player… one says he’s a “tickle monster”… and one claims he’s had a crush on Lindsay since early childhood days.

How is that possible?

We’ll find out when The Bachelorette premieres on Monday, May 22 at 9/8c.

Lindsay told Entertainment Tonight in April that she’s open to dating either a black guy or a white guy.

She’ll also discuss the topic of race on the opening episode.

“With the guys, you know, if it’s something new to them, then I want to talk about it the same way that I [wanted] to talk to Nick about it: ‘Have you ever dated a black woman before?"” she said, adding:

“I’ll talk about my experiences as well. You know, it’s about me, too, but I don’t want it to be something that defines our relationship.

“But I think it’s something important to address.”

Rachel Lindsay: Was Her Skin Lightened in First Bachelorette Photo?

With the new season of The Bachelorette set to premiere next month, this season’s star Rachel Lindsay is making her official debut.

Of course, it’s not without controversy – and we’re not talking about The Bachelorette spoilers for once, but her first promotional photo.

Wow. In the shot, Lindsay is wearing a bright red Randi Rahm gown with a cutout back and matching rose petals coming off the back.

Talk about red hot, to say the absolute least.

The stunning Texas lawyer who quickly caught Nick Viall’s eye on The Bachelor is ready to find a true love of her own – and make history.

Not that you’ll hear her play it up, because the first African-American lead in the franchise’s 15-year run says she’s just there for love.

You know, just like everyone else, right?

Showrunner Mike Fleiss isn’t nearly as modest, proclaiming “I think @TheRachLindsay will be one of the Top 3 Bachelorettes of all time.”

“She is wonderful!!! #TheBachelorette.”

As for her personal hopes for suitors?

“I obviously expect to see a wider pool of African-American men just because that’s me,” Rachel told ET in an interview earlier this year.

“But what I’m excited about is I’m hoping that my cast reflects what America looks like,” she said, and that will be the interesting part.

The announcement of Lindsay as The Bachelorette came after calls for greater diversity by ABC’s president and the show fans alike.

Those pining for the first black Bachelorette got their wish, at last, but Rachel’s race is already the subject of some unexpected controversy.

After the release of the above promotional image, some observers instantly accused the powers that be of lightening her face.

Radar Online quotes celebrity photoshop expert Alan Barry (yes, there celebrity photoshop expert not named Lindsay Lohan) as such:

“There is a certain amount of color saturation that gets washed out by the studio lighting that this was shot with,” he says.

“However, the photo editor has many choices of how to deal with that. Her skin is has been obviously lightened in post production.”

“It is particularly apparent when looking at the the back of her right arm, which almost appears to be close to a Caucasian skin tone.”

Barry calls the work “embarrassing” and “heavily edited” for reasons unknown, but do you think Rachel actually looks that different?

Check out earlier photos of her and decide:

Honestly, we don’t think there’s negative intent here.

Every previous star of the franchise has appeared in similar pic for promotional purposes, all of which look kind of washed out.

As the alleged expert even acknowledges, the studio lighting and production value provides a different look than a candid Instagram shot.

Regardless, this will not be the last race-related story – legitimate or exaggerated – that stems from her trailblazing stint on the series.

This has never been done before, and Rachel Lindsay will be under a microscope in a way that her predecessors never were.

We just hope she’s up to it, and that she’s able to tune out some of the scrutiny and noise while she finds what she’s looking for.

Lindsay Lohan Says She"s Back & Better Than Ever, World Disagrees

Lindsay Lohan has been having quite a time lately.

That used to mean she’s been hitting the clubs and living up the nickname Blohan, but these days it means something quite different.

Lindsay is in the process of reinventing herself as the poor man’s Angelina Jolie, and it seems becoming a respected humanitarian isn’t as easy as she had hoped.

For one thing, Lindsay has a difficult time distinguishing the good guys from the bad.

(Note to other aspiring philanthropists: Don’t become a Turkish spy.)

Adding to the difficulty is that charity work and raising awareness of important issues seem to be Angie’s top priorities, whereas Linds is still awkwardly trying to climb the Hollywood ladder.

Her latest effort takes the form of a weird reality prank show that sounds like it basically just recreates the crappy experience of losing your phone.

The series is called The Anti-Social Network, which would’ve been a great joke in, like, 2010.

In it, Lindsay Lohan takes control of contestants’ social media pages and ruins their lives for cash.

Obviously, Lohan is a bizarre choice for the gig, as she’s not a comedian, and her only experience with reality TV is a limited series that documented her own downward spiral.

But the promotional materials promise Lindsay is “back and better than ever.”

Feel free to file a false adverting lawsuit any time.

“I love social media,” Lindsay says of the show.

“I mean, I am social media. Everybody knows you should never leave your phone lying around, especially near me,”

Yes, Lindsay Lohan is social media.

Also, Lindsay Lohan steals stuff, which we already knew, but it’s good to hear her finally admit it.

If, for some reason, you’re dying to watch the The Anti-Social Network, you may be out of luck.

It’s a British production, and it currently doesn’t seem there are any plans to air it in the States.

We’re sure your devastated.

But don’t worry, the show is just one part of Lindsay’s multi-faceted plan to jumpstart her ’89 Ford Pinto of a career.

Hilariously, Lindsay wants to star in a live-action Little Mermaid remake, which is so never happening, but it’s fun to see her keep trying.

Plus, she’s probably acting as an unregistered foreign agent for the Turkish government, so you might get to watch a whole fun trial in the very near future!

Neat!

Rachel Lindsay as The Bachelorette: First Look!

Rachel Lindsay is ready to meet her men.

For real, that is. On her very own TV show, we mean.

On Monday night’s After the Final Rose special, Lindsay was surprised to actually shake hands with four of the suitors who will be vying for her heart this spring on The Bachelorette.

This unexpected development was a sign of how excited ABC is to present viewers with the first African-American Bachelorette.

And now exeuctive producer Mike Fleiss is here to once again prove how psyched the network is for Lindsay to anchor Season 13 of this beloved franchise.

On Thursday night, Fleiss live-Tweeted night one of filming, teasing social media followers with photos of lights, cameras, limos and even some “cheesecake and beefcake.”

Not to mention Lindsay in the dress she’ll be wearing while making the acquiantence of 25 men.

“Let’s do it!!! #TheBachelorette,” Fleiss captioned the above photo, which features Lindsay, Fleiss, Chris Harrison and some other guy.

He then went ahead and offered up this sneak peek of Lindsay about to emerge from her fancy car on the premiere:

As you can see in the pictures above and below, Lindsay donned a sleeveless white patterned gown for the occasion. She looks beautiful.

Elsewhere on Twitter, Fleiss gave fans a look at the 7,500-square-foot Bachelor mansion in Agoura Hills, California.

No doubt this will be the scene of many arguments, drunken evenings and debates over who is on the show for the right reasons.

“Almost time,” Fleiss simply wrote as a caption to the following photo.

Lindsay is a 31-year old attorney from Dallas, who, to be frank, comes across as far more level-headed and normal than most women who have appeared on this series.

She has said she regrets putting her professional life before her personal life and is now focused entirely on finding love and settling down.

“I think @TheRachLindsay will be one of the Top 3 Bachelorettes of all time. She is wonderful!!! #TheBachelorette,” wrote Fleiss on Thursday night.

We were then taken inside the production truck:

“15 minutes til limos… #TheBachelorette,” read this caption.

For those wondering what sort of food is served along with the champagne on opening night, Fleiss even went ahead and gave us a clue:

Delicious food! Yummy food! Very sweet food!

“Night One. Cheesecake and beefcake…#TheBachelorette,” he captioned this image:

Finally, what would a preview of The Bachelorette be without a look at the suitors themselves?

Simply referring to them as “dudes,” Fleiss Tweeted the following photo on Thursday, which is a worth a close look because it features more African-American men than the typical season of The Bachelorette.

It’s about time, isn’t it?

In February, Lindsay told People Magazine that she’s “at a stage in life where I’m ready for a family, I’m ready to get married.”

She added in a separate interview that she’s open to any type of man, saying:

“I want a guy who is not afraid of [commitment]. I’ve come across that in my past.”

That sound you hear is millions of women nodding their heads in agreement.

Are you pumped for Rachel Lindsay to be The Bachelorette?

New "Bachelorette" Rachel Lindsay Meets Her Guys, One"s Ready to Go Black (VIDEO)

Right after Nick Viall’s ‘Bachelor’ season wrapped, Rachel Lindsay’s ‘Bachelorette’ season began — and one of her suitors is already getting racial. Rachel — the first black Bachelorette or Bachelor — met her contestants after Monday’s finale,…

Rachel Lindsay Meets Meets Her Men: Who Are They?!?

Welp.

We now know who Nick Viall is going to marry, courtesy of an intense and emotional Bachelor finale on Monday night.

And we also may even know whose proposal will be accepted by Rachel Lindsay in a few months, thanks to a stunning twist perpetrated by ABC producers shortly after Nick popped the question.

As predicted by our section of The Bachelor spoilers, Viall eliminated Raven Gates on the concluding Season 21 episode yesterday, telling Vanessa Grimaldi that he’s fallen “more and more” in love with her as time went on.

“So much about me being here has to do with the past, but when I look at you, all I see is my future,” Viall told the final suitor standing, as Vanessa smiled and Viall fought back tears of joy.

In response, Grimaldi stared into The Bachelor’s eyes and said:

“I promise to remind you every day how happy you make me, and knowing how much you love to talk, I promise I’m ready to do a lot of listening.”

Then, Nick proposed. Vanessa accepted. And millions of viewers around the country celebrated. Or groaned.

From there, it was on to the After the Final Rose special and some kind of unique “first” that had been teased for several days by Chris Harrison and other network executives.

As it turns out, this shocking development had nothing to do with Viall and everything to do with Lindsay, the impending Bachelorette who was sent home by Nick after advancing all the way to the final three.

“I’ve been talking about this epic surprise for Bachelor Nation,” Harrison said to Lindsay on the special, adding:

“The truth is, it’s actually an epic surprise for you. We’ve never done this before. You know, obviously, you’re the Bachelorette.

“What you don’t know is The Bachelorette starts right now.”

Wait… what?!? Huh?!? How?!?!?

Harrison proceeded to bring out four of the men who will be competing for Lindsay’s heart and crotch, telling the suitors to “Come on out!” while a backdrop of The Bachelorette mansion rolled on to the stage.

“I’m normally not at a loss of words – I don’t even know what to say right now,” Lindsay said as a limo of her contestants pulled up outside. “I wasn’t ready!”

But the men sure were!

First, Rachel met Demario, who said he had already purchased a ring and booked flights to Vegas for he and Rachel to elope.

Next up was Blake, who admitted to being nervous after he awkwardly kissed Rachel’s hand when she thought he was going in for a hug instead.

“You look good – you smell good,” he eerily told Lindsay.

The third contestant was Dean, who actually told Lindsay, “I just want you to know, I’m ready to go black, and I’m never going to go back.”

Rachel somehow adored this line.

And, finally, there was Eric, who showed off a few dance moves on stage.

That’s four gentlemen down and about 20 more to go. Rachel will meet the rest when The Bachelorette premieres on May 22.

“I’ve kind of closed that chapter of my life, turned the page, ready to start a new one,” Lindsay told Harrison about Viall and her experience on The Bachelor.

“I’m so ready to get my season started.”

Is she afraid that she won’t meet the man of her dreams?

Sure. But how will she know if she doesn’t give it a shot?

“I’m putting myself out there,” Rachel also said on the special.

“I did it during Nick’s season, it didn’t work out for me and here I am doing it again. I really, really want that [happy ending].”

Do you think one of these men will give it to her? Which of their first impressions came across best?

And what about Nick? Will he and and Vanessa Grimaldi last? Will they make it down the aisle?

Or, in what would be the greatest twist ABC has ever pulled (non-Lost edition), will Viall and Lindsay actually end up together at some point?!?

The Bachelor Promo: Could Rachel Lindsay Still Win?!

Nick Viall’s fourth journey to find love on ABC will come to an end next week, but will it play out as The Bachelor spoilers have indicated?

Only three women remain – one of whom will be The Bachelorette this summer, we"re told – but only two have a chance to win … right?

With apologies to 2Pac, all eyez will be on the 36-year-old software salesman when Viall hands out his final rose a week from tonight.

His no doubt emotional selection of The Bachelor winner will play out not just on the finale, but on the live After the Final Rose special.

But first, there"s tonight, which should be a doozy.

Nick"s overnight Fantasy Suite activities with Rachel Lindsay, Vanessa Grimaldi and Raven Gates could produce plenty of fireworks.

And, by recent indications, some big surprises.

The Bachelor creator and executive producer Mike Fleiss promises that the ending of Season 21 will “be historic,” for what that"s worth.

He even suggested a scenario that would go down as the biggest twist since Jason Mesnick dumped Melissa Rycroft for Molly Malaney.

"Maybe we said @TheRachLindsay was the new #TheBachelorette just to throw you off the track… Maybe she wins?" Fleiss teased.

Whoa there. Slow your roll there, Mr. Fleissmeister.

We know it"s his job to hype his own show and keep us guessing as to the outcome – no easy task in the age of The Bachelor spoilers.

Is it possible, though, that the announcement of Rachel Lindsay is The Bachelorette ahead of time was burying the lede in a sense?

NOTE: There"s no way she"s not The Bachelorette.

That"s not where we"re going with this. She"s too popular, and her rollout was too successful for ABC to simply lie about a fake Bachelorette.

Might she unexpectedly win the final rose over Vanessa and Raven, only to break up with Nick and take on the starring role after that?

Unlikely, but very much a plausible twist.

Most fans automatically assumed Rachel was a goner after her hometown date, before which she was announced as the heiress apparent.

She"s already defied that conventional wisdom by outlasting Corinne Olympios and her platinum vagine. Why can"t she make it to the end?

For more details on how it all plays out, follow the links above as we count down the days until the finale and After the Final Rose special.

In the meantime, two episodes remain, beginning with this evening"s, in which we find Nick wandering around freezing Finland in a daze.

He"s unsure what to do, for good reason.

With Vanessa Grimaldi asking Nick to move to Canada, Rachel"s family talking racial issues, and Raven Gates" lifelong orgasm gap?

Let"s just say Viall has a lot on his plate.

The "historic" nature of the finale may turn out to be all hype, but either way, Nick has a couple of big decisions to make before we find out.

Many tears will be shed. Hearts will be broken. A proposal will be made, and maybe, just maybe, an orgasm will be reached at long last.

Seriously, we"re all pulling for Raven.

Check out this sneak peek from tonight"s penultimate episode and see how you think it will all play out in the coming hours, and weeks …

Lindsay Lohan: I"m a Victim of Racial Profiling!

Now that Lindsay Lohan has gone from coke to #woke, she’s pursuing the life of an attention-starved, self-congratulatory humanitarian with the same reckless abandon she applied to consuming all of the world’s uppers.

We suppose it’s a step in the direction, as in her new lifestyle, there’s a chance LiLo might help someone who’s not a dealer, but she clearly wants to go from 0 to Jolie overnight, and she hasn’t put in the due diligence.

Lindsay’s lack of research has already led her into situations where she might be unwittingly spying for the Turkish government

One would think she might have learned her lesson from that little international incident in the making, but apparently not.

Lindsay is still sounding off on topics of which she has little understanding, and her misguided attempts at becoming an international peacekeeper are usually innocuously funny (see: her Lisa Frank notebook-worthy poem about ISIS), but they could end up doing real harm.

Lindsay appeared on Good Morning Britain today, because apparently the people who still give a sh-t what Lindsay Lohan have all migrated to the U.K., and Piers Morgan is one of them.

Lindsay claims she was racially profiled in at JFK airport, because she doesn’t understand what the word “racial” means.

In case you’ve recently eaten and can’t stomach Lindsay’s fake accent or the sight of the blathering albino bullfrog that is Piers Morgan, here’s what Linds had to say about her experience as an oppressed minority:

“When I was flying to New York recently I was wearing a headscarf and I got stopped at the airport and was racially profiled for the first time in my life.

“[The agent] opened my passport and saw Lindsay Lohan and started apologizing but said, ‘Take off your headscarf.’ I mean, it’s OK. But what scared me was that moment, how would another woman who doesn’t feel comfortable taking off her headscarf feel?

“That was really interesting to me. I was kind of in shock. It was strange… I’m from New York, born and raised. I was a little intimidated.”

When pressed about why she wears a headscarf if she’s not converting to Islam, Lindsay confusingly claims it wasn’t a religious thing at all, and she was just “covering up” in the style of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly.

Yes, because nothing makes you more inconspicuous in Donald Trump’s America than dressing in what appears to be Muslim garb in a New York airport.

Here’s the thing:

Even if Lindsay were singled out because of her faith, it wouldn’t be racial profiling, it would be Muslim profiling, which is a real and frightening issue, and one that Lindsay undermines by claiming she’s a victim because she had an 8-second eschange with a TSA agent.

We hate the “actors should stick to acting” argument, but we believe all public figures should inform themselves before speaking publicly on important issues.

We’re not sure what Lindsay’s endgame is here, but she’s certainly not making anything better or easier for Muslims in America, and she needs to take a few dozen seats until she’s better informed on the issue.

Also, she can’t really stick to acting, because, well … when was the last time you saw her acting in something?

Lindsay Lohan To Disney: Please Hire Me!

Lindsay Lohan’s career has been pretty much non-existent for quite a few years now, but that does not mean she’s not trying to find herself some work.

When she’s not posting ominous pictures and stories on Instagram, she’s taking aim at big movie studios to pitch some ideas for their next big hits.

Hey, she has to pass the time.

Lohan took to Instagram to express her hope that Disney would hire her to sing as Ariel in a potential reboot of The Little Mermaid.

“I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid [if] @Disney approve that #billcondon directs it,” she said Sunday.

It’s pretty outrageous that she would plead for work and throw in some strings. Bill Condon is the director of Beauty and the Beast, which will be released later this year.

Lindsay knows how to cause a storm, and she’s definitely in the process of creating another. If she thought she would get the job, she would not have been adding her terms to participate.

Embarrassment aside, it’s certainly a bold way to try and get a job. Maybe they’ll take pity on her or something.

In the wake of the post going viral, Lohan swiftly edited it and removed everything aside from “#thelittlemermaid.”

Maybe she woke up to a string of comments from people who felt she was acting a little too desperately.

In addition, Lohan even tried to get her sister, Aliana Lohan, in on the action, too. She said she envisioned it as a family affair.

Yeah, we’re sure Disney does, too, Lindsay.

Could you imagine hell freezing over if Lindsay’s version of this project ever came to fruition?

Lindsay has been causing a stir with her comments about wanting to become a Muslim and meet with Donald Trump

Seriously, she’s taken on this whole new persona that’s had everyone questioning whether she’s about to go off the rails.

What do you think about all of this?

Sound off below!

Rachel Lindsay on The Bachelorette: Race is a Non-Factor!

Rachel Lindsay may have made history when, as The Bachelor spoilers predicted, she was announced as The Bachelorette for 2017.

But despite being the first African-American lead in the franchise’s history – spanning 34 seasons – she says race is a non-factor for her.

While Rachel Lindsay as The Bachelorette will, by definition, lead to a lot of news stories about her race, she’s not focused on it at all.

Regarding both her own “historic” status or the race of the suitors who will be competing for her heart later this year, it’s not on her radar.

“Physically, I really don’t have a type,” Rachel told People.

“I’m very open, which I think will be really exciting when the guys come out the limo because I don’t know what I’m going to get!”

Interracial relationships are not new to her, she says.

“My dad’s side of the family is all intermixed,” she said. “If you came home and saw my family, you would see that everyone looks different.”

“From aunts, uncles and the cousins to brother-in-laws. We’re very accepting. It’s really about finding love,” Rachel, 31, tells the publication.

“Not what the person looks like on the outside.”

The Dallas attorney added in another interview on Good Morning America that she’s not any different from previous stars of the hit show:

“I’m honored to have this opportunity and to represent myself as an African-American woman and I just hope that people rally behind me.”

“[Like] they did in Nick’s season. Even though I’m an African-American woman, it’s not different from any other Bachelorette.”

And yet it is, by definition, as The Bachelor franchise has long been criticized for not being very diverse. And by very, we mean at all.

Usually, only a few minorities are cast, if that.

Of those that do make the cut, most end up being let go very fast, which makes Rachel’s trip to the end of Nick’s season pretty remarkable.

One of the top four contestants on Nick Viall‘s current season of The Bachelor, she was announced early in a surprising move by ABC.

Lindsay has not even been let go by Nick at this point.

The only other Bachelor franchise lead who was a minority was Juan Pablo Galavis, a Venezuela native who starred in 2013.

Rachel literally cannot come across worse than JPG.

Andi Dorfman was the first Jewish Bachelorette in 2014, Kaitlyn Bristowe (2015) is Canadian, and 2016’s JoJo Fletcher is half Iranian.

None will get the attention of Lindsay, however.

Nick personally took to Instagram to praise the choice in a lengthy post gushing about both the girl and her selection as the next star.

Writes Viall of the torch being passed:

“Bachelor Nation doesn’t know how it all goes down yet, but [saying goodbye to] Rachel was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life.”

“I have met very few people who possess as much beauty, grace, and charisma as Rachel and [I couldn’t be] more excited.”

“Bachelor Nation is so lucky to have her but not as lucky as the group of men who will have a chance at winning her heart.”

“No one is better prepared to show Bachelor Nation, and the world, the beauty of embracing diversity.”

“Good luck Rachel, not that you’ll be needing it. I’m so proud and happy for you, I’m honored to be able to call you a friend. I can’t wait to watch your journey!!”

On her blog, another former star of The Bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky, shared similar thoughts on Lindsay’s casting:

“I am so thrilled for her! Us Bachelorettes are all close and I am so happy to welcome Rachel to the group!”

“She’s cute, smart, sweet and sassy! I cannot wait to see her find love! Such a perfect choice as the new Bachelorette.”

“And yes, I am very happy to see a little diversity join our family!!!”

“Rachel said it best, her journey to find love will be no different just because the color of her skin is.”

“I think this is such an exciting time for the franchise and I will be watching her on her quest to find the one!”

The Bachelorette: Why Was Rachel Lindsay Announced Now?

By now you’ve heard The Bachelor spoilers: Rachel Lindsay is The Bachelorette, despite still being in contention for Nick Viall’s heart.

On TV, that is. She’s been eliminated by this point, as filming has concluded. We’re just learning about it ahead of time … from ABC.

Rachel Lindsay with Nick Viall

Therein lies the true “historic” nature of this announcement.

Yes, Rachel Lindsay is the first African-American lead in 34 seasons of the reality franchise. That is significant and a very good thing.

Giving away the fact that Rachel, a popular contestant this season, is not The Bachelor winner is a surprising and controversial decision.

Rachel is still competing on the show, and will go on a hometown date (as will Corinne Olympios, Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi).

You can follow the links above to find out, but the assumption that Nick eliminates her after the hometown date isn’t necessarily true.

It wouldn’t make a lot of sense if she made the finale now, but she could easily make it to the subsequent overnights following hometowns.

For obvious reasons, the next star of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette has never been announced during the current season they’re on.

As a result, Chris Harrison has apologized for this spoiler … one most likely necessitated or inspired by The Bachelor spoilers themselves.

The third- or fourth-place finisher going on to be the next lead of the franchise is not abnormal. Finding out about it right now definitely is.

If you’re hoping for a detailed, truthful answer to why the show’s brain trust went this route, you’re not gonna get it this week, anyway.

“I hate that anything was ruined for #BachelorNation but I’m incredibly excited that @therachlindsay is our new #Bachelorette,” Harrison wrote.

Notably absent? Any explanation of why.

Entertainment Tonight reports that The Bachelorette will begin production sooner than usual, right after Nick’s season wraps on March 13.

Producers need to start the process of casting suitors for Lindsay as soon as possible, and need additional time to generate interest?

The producers did do this with Emily Maynard, who wasn’t on The Bachelor that season, as a means of getting applicants / fans excited.

Perhaps the fact that Rachel has less of a social media presence than Corinne, Raven or others played a role in their decision to spill?

Or, maybe it’s as simple as Chris, Mike Fleiss and their associates wanting to get ahead of the story and control it from the beginning.

Every season, it’s spoiled. Just not by them.

Rachel Lindsay has a fan base, one that is likely to grow in the period between the announcement and when she’s eliminated by Nick.

Now that we know she’s The Bachelorette, the producers can craft what we see on and off the show accordingly to boost her popularity.

Moreover, it avoids any disappointment by Bachelor fans who might be hoping for Raven or Vanessa to get the job (or Corinne, LOL).

Dragging it out increases the possibility of spoilers, rumors and confusion taking away from Rachel’s announcement tour. No longer.

As for whether the viewing audience will accept a black Bachelorette, and rumors that this had something to do with the early unveiling?

We don’t see it.

This is a show that has survived since the early 2000s because of its format, not necessarily based on the strength of any one lead.

Some leads are more controversial than others (Nick). Others (cough, Juan Pablo Galavis) have even gone onto be universally despised.

Still, The Bachelor and Bachelorette soldier on, and by and large, the biggest stars of both genders are more popular with fans than not.

Rachel will be no exception.

As Harrison put it, she’s “a smart, strong, independent Texan who loves her @dallascowboys. What more could a man want?”
