Katie Price: Maybe I"ll Hire a Prostitute for My Autistic 15-Year-Old!
In a talk show appearance, television personality and former model Katie Price suggested that she"d consider hiring a sex worker for her autistic son, who is currently only fifteen.
There is so much to unpackage here. Because there"s so much wrong, here.
We have the video for you, below, with full context — but no amount of context could make this anything but controversial.
But first, here"s what"s going on.
Katie Price is a television personality these days, but she used to be one of those "top-heavy" models, and she"d model topless.
Essentially, she made millions off of her megaboobs.
She has three children.
Her son, Harvey, is fifteen.
Harvey is on the autistic spectrum.
While there are plenty of autistic folks with basically zero issues in a neurotypical-dominated society, there are some people with autism who need daily assistance to go about their lives.
Harvey, at least for now, needs a fair amount of accommodation, though part of that is because he was born blind.
And Harvey also has Prader-Willi syndrome, which can have a few symptoms such as impaired brain-function — but the primary symptom is an insatiable appetite that can easily lead to massive weight gain.
Katie Price appeared on a talk show, Loose Women, along with a woman who has an adult autistic son and has written a book about her experience as his mother.
The woman"s son also appeared on the show and, honestly, we thought that he did an ample job of speaking for himself and we"d rather have just heard from him.
That woman shared a story about how she"d considered hiring a sex worker for her son when was in his early 20s.
As she tells it, she even drove into what she calls a "red light district," only to get cold feet.
Her son ended up meeting a young woman on his own and dating her — he was just awkward at the time.
(We get the feeling that his mother was panicking that her son would be alone forever, and honestly that whole anecdote is just a huge red flag about the mom)
Katie Price jumps in with her own story, based on Harvey having entered puberty and something that Katie Price"s husband (for now) had suggested:
"Kieran said, ‘Shall we get him a prostitute when he turns 18?’ But I said, ‘But that’s my little Harvey and I don’t want him to do that!’ What do I do? Do I leave it? Or do I let him experience it?"
You"ll see that and the chatter in response in the video below.
This is hardly the first time that Katie Price has made controversial statements on parenting, but still.
But we need to unpack these issues.
Okay, first of all, because this is the most important thing to address:
It"s pretty screwed up that these women seem very content to just talk about autistic folks like they"re wild animals that sometimes end up in people"s houses.
People who have autism are people.
They exist on a very wide and varied spectrum of abilities and experiences.
Television and film tend to portray autistic people as either nonverbal robots "who might be dangerous" or as slightly shy white men who are really, really good at solving crimes.
If you want a better glimpse at some positive and frankly realistic portrayals of an autistic adult, maybe look at Abed Nadir on Community.
Eddie Redmayne"s portrayal of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was essentially just a male, magical version of Temple Grandin, a famous autistic woman who advocates for livestock welfare and has changed industry standards in the process.
These examples might serve people better than listening to the horror stories of Mommy Bloggers.
Most of the parents in that category are more interested in exploiting their family stories for profit than giving an honest representation of people on the autistic spectrum.
It"s no wonder that this episode proved to be so controversial, right?
A lot of the controversy, however, wasn"t centered upon the weird fetishization of "autism moms."
No, a lot of the Twitter backlash was about the idea of hiring a sex worker.
Not because Harvey is disabled or still a minor or a real person who may or may not want to have sex in a few years, regardless of what his parents assume.
But because there are still people, many of them well-meaning, who believe that sex work is inherently bad.
That"s really no surprise — just think of the ridiculous freakout over Teen Vogue"s anal sex guide.
In this case, though, only some of the people who rail against sex work are just people who are generally tightly wound about sex.
Some people who probably think of themselves as sex-positive act as though all sex work is the same thing as sex trafficking.
Not even a little.
It is absolutely true that sometimes women are kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery in an operation that resembles voluntary sex work.
Except for the voluntary part.
That does not make all sex work involuntary or abusive or anything else.
Like, we know that Qatar has used slave labor in construction.
That does not mean that all construction workers are slaves.
Not all sex workers are desperate to get into a different line of work, either.
Not all porn stars want to be actors and not all escorts dream of a white picket fence.
People who rail against sex work are so often shouting over the voices of actual sex workers.
So a lot of ire was misplaced, basically.
Katie Price, to be fair, is far from the worst offender here.
She only brought this up because the other mom had already shared her story.
But unless it"s something that Harvey actually says that he wants when he"s an adult, she shouldn"t even consider it.
Hopefully the backlash, misguided as much of it might be, will make that clear.

Emily Ratajkowski: My Boobs Are Too Big! No One Will Hire Me!
If you’ve ever used Instagram, watched a Robin Thicke video, or seen the movie Gone Girl, then you’re probably aware that Emily Ratajkowski has big boobs.
What you may not have realize is that those bog boobs have caused her problems.
We’re not talking about the usual lower back pain or difficulty with top buttons on form-fitting blouses.
No, Emily says she’s suffered full-blown anti-big-boob discrimination.
In a new interview with Bazaar Australia, Emily reveals that she believes her famous figure has kept her from moving forward in her career:
“There’s this thing that happens to me: ‘Oh, she’s too sexy’. It’s like an anti-woman thing, that people don’t want to work with me because my boobs are too big,” she tells the magazine.
“What’s wrong with boobs? They’re a beautiful feminine thing that needs to be celebrated. Like, who cares? They are great big, they are great small.”
She added:
“Why should that be an issue? I have no problem with the backlash, because I feel it illustrates my point over and over.”
What’s wrong with boobs, indeed!
Look, people, it’s harder than ever for large segments of the population to find common ground these days.
If we can’t all agree that Emily Ratajkowski’s boobs are awesome, then this country is truly sunk.
Now, if someone were to complain that all the attention they’re receiving is distracting from Emily Ratajkowski’s butt, which is also spectacular, then that’s an argument we could see ourselves endorsing.
But that’s the only legitimate complaint to be made about Emily Ratajkowski’s boobs!
Anything else is like complaining that the million dollars someone just handed isn’t in small enough bills.
You’re just looking for reasons to complain, Hypothetical Reader, and we won’t stand for it!
Elsewhere in the interview, Emily talks about her boyfriend, … , who as far as we can tell, makes his living as a toucher of magnificent boobs.
“My boyfriend is super confident and was raised by his mum, so he also genuinely loves and admires women. Not just ‘Oh yeah, women are cool,” she tells the magazine.
“He deeply loves and respects women, so he loves what I’m all about.”
Of course he’s super confident.
We assume Emily’s breasts have magical properties like that glowing orb that Trump touched in the Middle East.
Dude can probably bend spoons with his eyes.

Lindsay Lohan To Disney: Please Hire Me!
Lindsay Lohan’s career has been pretty much non-existent for quite a few years now, but that does not mean she’s not trying to find herself some work.
When she’s not posting ominous pictures and stories on Instagram, she’s taking aim at big movie studios to pitch some ideas for their next big hits.
Hey, she has to pass the time.
Lohan took to Instagram to express her hope that Disney would hire her to sing as Ariel in a potential reboot of The Little Mermaid.
“I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid [if] @Disney approve that #billcondon directs it,” she said Sunday.
It’s pretty outrageous that she would plead for work and throw in some strings. Bill Condon is the director of Beauty and the Beast, which will be released later this year.
Lindsay knows how to cause a storm, and she’s definitely in the process of creating another. If she thought she would get the job, she would not have been adding her terms to participate.
Embarrassment aside, it’s certainly a bold way to try and get a job. Maybe they’ll take pity on her or something.
In the wake of the post going viral, Lohan swiftly edited it and removed everything aside from “#thelittlemermaid.”
Maybe she woke up to a string of comments from people who felt she was acting a little too desperately.
In addition, Lohan even tried to get her sister, Aliana Lohan, in on the action, too. She said she envisioned it as a family affair.
Yeah, we’re sure Disney does, too, Lindsay.
Could you imagine hell freezing over if Lindsay’s version of this project ever came to fruition?
Lindsay has been causing a stir with her comments about wanting to become a Muslim and meet with Donald Trump.
Seriously, she’s taken on this whole new persona that’s had everyone questioning whether she’s about to go off the rails.

Tarek El Moussa: Did He Really Hire a Private Investigator to Track Ex-Wife?
Tarek El Moussa was recently spotted out in public with estranged wife Christina El Moussa for the first time since he filed for divorce.
The hosts of Flip or Flop on HGTV were reunited on Friday at the 2017 Investor Summit in Las Vegas, standing on stage and posing with smiles plastered across their faces.
All seemed calm between the former couple, who separated last May, yet who remain both the parents of two small kids and the co-leads on a hit cable show.
But don’t let Tarek’s happy mug or his Instagram caption fool you.
“Me and #christina on the #big #stage having #fun and teaching folks how to #flip #houses!!” Tarek wrote along with the photo below of the pair on stage.
Ignoring El Moussa’s untamed, ridiculous use of hashtags in that caption, we’re here to focus on the dark past that hangs over this once-happy couple.
Tarek and Christina split last spring after an explosive fight.
It remains unclear just what led to the harsh words that were exchanged, but Tarek stormed out of his house afterward with a gun in hand, headed for the woods.
After Christina called the cops, Tarek explained that he simply feared for his safety among the animals outside.
The stars quietly went their separate ways at the time, but word of what happened leaked online a few months later, prompting the home renovation experts to publicly acknowledge their separation.
Fair enough.
No big deal.
Plenty of marriages fall apart.
But new reports have shined a damaging light on Tarek, with one tabloid actually claiming he used to threaten to rape Christina.
Like, a lot.
“He actually joked about raping Christina on more than one occasion,” a source told Life & Style last month of how Tarek would act on set.
“Tarek thinks it’s funny,” this witness claimed.
Now, In Touch Weekly is adding fuel to this scandalous fire by detailing another controversial action Tarek supposedly took against Christina.
“When he and Christina were on the rocks, he confessed to the production crew that he suspected she was dating someone, so he hired a private investigator to follow her,” says a source, adding:
“He wanted to know where she was going and what she was doing.”
The magazine writes that Tarek feared Christina was dating Gary Anderson, the family contractor who Tarek knew pretty well.
And she actually is dating Gary Anderson, but has been pretty out in the open about it and we haven’t heard much chatter about Christina actually cheating on Tarek with this guy.
Remember: the El Moussas separated many months ago and Tarek has since admitted to dating other women after the split.
“It’s hard for Tarek to see Christina dating, but it’s even worse that Gary is the guy she’s with,” In Touch adds. “It stings, and Christina knows it. Tarek is incredibly jealous and filled with rage.”
Yikes. That sounds like a dangerous recipe.
Thus far, neither Tarek nor Christina has made any disparaging remarks about the other in public.
They are parents to a six-year old girl named Taylor and a 17-month old son named Brayden and do seem committed to raising the kids in a friendly environment.
Moreover, they need to keep filming new Flip or Flop episodes together, as their contract requires Tarek and Christina to finish out the current season.
After that, however, they are free to pursue other professional options; rumors have said that Christina is interested in her own spinoff.

Kim Kardashian: Did She Hire a Divorce Lawyer Behind Kanye"s Back?
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are headed for divorce!
Just kidding, don’t stop us. These rumors seem to pop up once a month, and thus far they’ve all turned out to be pure tabloid BS, but they’re still good for a laugh, right?
The latest comes from the UK’s Heat magazine, which claimed today that Kim has hired a divorce lawyer behind Kanye’s back.
And not just any lawyer, of course, but famed divorce attorney to the stars, Laura Wasser.
“Kim met with Laura over the weekend,” says one insider. “She was at breaking point and needed to talk through where she stood with Kanye.”
“Kim loves Kanye, but they have been fighting constantly recently.
“They seem to bicker over everything, from how long it takes to get ready, to how much Kanye hates living at her mom Kris‘ house while their house is being renovated, to his temper, to how much he’s away for work.”
The source notes that Kim is currently just exploring her options so that she’ll be ready should she decide to pull the plug on the grand experiment known as Kimye.
“Kim’s been getting increasingly stressed and unhappy,” says the source.
“She’s tired all the time and thinks her husband should help out more. She doesn’t know how to fix things.”
Yeah, we’re not buying it.
We’re not saying that Kim and Kanye will definitely never get divorced, but if it happens, it’ll first be teased out for months in order to make the pile of hundred dollar bills that Kris Jenner sleeps on slightly larger.
This family would not let some drama like that pass them by without making it into a special 4-part episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
