Katie Price: Maybe I"ll Hire a Prostitute for My Autistic 15-Year-Old!
In a talk show appearance, television personality and former model Katie Price suggested that she"d consider hiring a sex worker for her autistic son, who is currently only fifteen.
There is so much to unpackage here. Because there"s so much wrong, here.
We have the video for you, below, with full context — but no amount of context could make this anything but controversial.
But first, here"s what"s going on.
Katie Price is a television personality these days, but she used to be one of those "top-heavy" models, and she"d model topless.
Essentially, she made millions off of her megaboobs.
She has three children.
Her son, Harvey, is fifteen.
Harvey is on the autistic spectrum.
While there are plenty of autistic folks with basically zero issues in a neurotypical-dominated society, there are some people with autism who need daily assistance to go about their lives.
Harvey, at least for now, needs a fair amount of accommodation, though part of that is because he was born blind.
And Harvey also has Prader-Willi syndrome, which can have a few symptoms such as impaired brain-function — but the primary symptom is an insatiable appetite that can easily lead to massive weight gain.
Katie Price appeared on a talk show, Loose Women, along with a woman who has an adult autistic son and has written a book about her experience as his mother.
The woman"s son also appeared on the show and, honestly, we thought that he did an ample job of speaking for himself and we"d rather have just heard from him.
That woman shared a story about how she"d considered hiring a sex worker for her son when was in his early 20s.
As she tells it, she even drove into what she calls a "red light district," only to get cold feet.
Her son ended up meeting a young woman on his own and dating her — he was just awkward at the time.
(We get the feeling that his mother was panicking that her son would be alone forever, and honestly that whole anecdote is just a huge red flag about the mom)
Katie Price jumps in with her own story, based on Harvey having entered puberty and something that Katie Price"s husband (for now) had suggested:
"Kieran said, ‘Shall we get him a prostitute when he turns 18?’ But I said, ‘But that’s my little Harvey and I don’t want him to do that!’ What do I do? Do I leave it? Or do I let him experience it?"
You"ll see that and the chatter in response in the video below.
This is hardly the first time that Katie Price has made controversial statements on parenting, but still.
But we need to unpack these issues.
Okay, first of all, because this is the most important thing to address:
It"s pretty screwed up that these women seem very content to just talk about autistic folks like they"re wild animals that sometimes end up in people"s houses.
People who have autism are people.
They exist on a very wide and varied spectrum of abilities and experiences.
Television and film tend to portray autistic people as either nonverbal robots "who might be dangerous" or as slightly shy white men who are really, really good at solving crimes.
If you want a better glimpse at some positive and frankly realistic portrayals of an autistic adult, maybe look at Abed Nadir on Community.
Eddie Redmayne"s portrayal of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was essentially just a male, magical version of Temple Grandin, a famous autistic woman who advocates for livestock welfare and has changed industry standards in the process.
These examples might serve people better than listening to the horror stories of Mommy Bloggers.
Most of the parents in that category are more interested in exploiting their family stories for profit than giving an honest representation of people on the autistic spectrum.
It"s no wonder that this episode proved to be so controversial, right?
A lot of the controversy, however, wasn"t centered upon the weird fetishization of "autism moms."
No, a lot of the Twitter backlash was about the idea of hiring a sex worker.
Not because Harvey is disabled or still a minor or a real person who may or may not want to have sex in a few years, regardless of what his parents assume.
But because there are still people, many of them well-meaning, who believe that sex work is inherently bad.
That"s really no surprise — just think of the ridiculous freakout over Teen Vogue"s anal sex guide.
In this case, though, only some of the people who rail against sex work are just people who are generally tightly wound about sex.
Some people who probably think of themselves as sex-positive act as though all sex work is the same thing as sex trafficking.
Not even a little.
It is absolutely true that sometimes women are kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery in an operation that resembles voluntary sex work.
Except for the voluntary part.
That does not make all sex work involuntary or abusive or anything else.
Like, we know that Qatar has used slave labor in construction.
That does not mean that all construction workers are slaves.
Not all sex workers are desperate to get into a different line of work, either.
Not all porn stars want to be actors and not all escorts dream of a white picket fence.
People who rail against sex work are so often shouting over the voices of actual sex workers.
So a lot of ire was misplaced, basically.
Katie Price, to be fair, is far from the worst offender here.
She only brought this up because the other mom had already shared her story.
But unless it"s something that Harvey actually says that he wants when he"s an adult, she shouldn"t even consider it.
Hopefully the backlash, misguided as much of it might be, will make that clear.

Lamar Odom: Prostitute Offers New Details on Overdose One Year Later
It’s been one year since Lamar Odom nearly died after suffering an overdose in Las Vegas-area brothel.
Sadly, just months after that experience (which left Odom in a coma and required months of hospitalization), Odom was once again using drugs, drinking, and partying with sex workers.
Needless to say, the former NBA star didn’t learn much from his brush death, and it didn’t take him long to delve back into the lifestyle that almost killed him.
Given how much media scrutiny the incident received back in October of 2015, it seemed we knew everything there was to know about Odom’s time at Dennis Hof’s famous Bunny Ranch establishment.
Now, however, an escort who goes by the name Monica Monroe has published a blog post in which she reveals some surprising new details about the days leading up to Odom’s overdose:
“No sex occurred while Lamar was at the Love Ranch,” Monroe writes.
“I took the opportunity to strip him naked and gave him a full body massage. I was determined to have my way with his ample sized penis, but he just couldn’t get it up.”
She adds that Lamar was devastated over the end of his marriage to Khloe Kardashian and he coped by “eating KFC” and doing copious amounts of drugs:
“Lamar and I made a connection because we both were a little lonely due to recent losses in our lives:
“I had recently lost my boyfriend of eight years to a shooting and he was distraught over his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian.”
Khloe appeared to giver her estranged husband a second chance after he emerged from his coma, but sadly, sources say she kicked Odom out her home after she found a crack pipe and caught wind of reports that he’d been partying with strippers.
Monroe says that the Odom incident very nearly cost her her livelihood, as her boss and potential clients viewed her as someone who is unable to keep a secret:
“Dennis Hof’s establishments get an impressive amount of celebrity and high-profile visitors, and we’re known for maintaining confidentiality and privacy for all of our clients,” she writes.
“After Lamar overdosed, it was perceived by many of my high-profile clients that I was no longer discreet, or that I was the type of person to ‘kiss and tell.’
She adds:
“I know that my professional reputation was severely, nearly fatally, tarnished by last year’s events, although I’m not sure if Lamar could be held legally responsible for the repercussions of this tragedy.”
Monroe also claims that Hof is considering suing Odom, though it’s unclear on what grounds.
We’re not making excuses for the guy, but with all the stress and scrutiny in his life, it’s not hard to see how he might be driven to self-destructive behavior.

Kylie Jenner: I Feel Like a Prostitute!
It’s been just over a week since Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, and the reality star has been entirely absent on social media in the days following the shocking incident.
Going a week without posting any selfies on the ‘Gram may not sound like a big deal, but Kim has nearly 85 million followers, and her online presence is one of the cornerstones of her media empire.
Somewhat amazingly, Kim’s famous family has followed suit, with most of her sisters keeping lower profiles on social media recently for the sake of their family’s safety.
But it should come as no surprise that Kylie Jenner was having none of that idea.
Kylie took a single day off out of respect to Kim’s situation, but since then, she’s been snapping and gramming like it’s going out of style.
Just 48 hours after her sister’s traumatic experience , Kylie was all “look at my butt” with a throwback from her August vacation in Turks & Caicos.
Insiders say Kylie refuses to stop flaunting her jewelry (and her curves) on social media despite pleas from Kris Jenner and other concerned parties.
We suppose we can see the necessity behind her decision.
After all, Kylie has a new line of Halloween-themed lip kits (yes, really) to promote, and her ability to foster lifestyle envy amongst her tens of millions of followers is a huge part of her popularity.
But Kylie hasn’t just been plugging her products this past week.
Rather, she seems to be engaging with fans more than ever, even responding to criticism of her famously racy selfies.
When some random on Twitter joked that Kylie looks “like a 14 year old prostitute” last night, Kylie clapped back in epic fashion:
“Idk I feel like I look like a 19 year old prostitute,” she tweeted.
Since she tends to only show us the serious self-promotional side on TV, it’s easy to forget that Kylie is known in her inner circle for her sense of humor.
Clearly, unlike the rest of her family, she’s even capable of self-deprecation.
We’d love to see more of Kylizzle’s lighthearted side, but the girl weirdly hates smiling.
We imagine she just doesn’t like how it makes her lips look.

Charlie Sheen: Brett Rossi is a Prostitute! I Never Forced Her to Get an Abortion!
In the weeks since we first learned that Charlie Sheen is HIV positive, several women have come forward claiming that the actor put them at risk by failing to tell them about his condition.
Several former sex partner’s of Sheen’s have filed suit, alleging that the 50-year-old endangered their lives.
Sheen’s ex-fiancee, Brett Rossi, says she had unprotected sex with Sheen on at least five occasions before discovering HIV medication in his medicine cabinet.
But that’s not why Rossi suing Sheen. No, her claim is that Sheen forced her to have an abortion, and she’s seeking unspecified punitive damage for the emotional abuse that she says she suffered while he was pressuring her to terminate the pregnancy.
Now, Sheen is hitting back in his usual style.
In court papers obtained by Us Weekly, Sheen not only denies forcing Rossi to get an abortion, he accuses her of extortion and working as a prostitute while they were engaged.
“This is a case by an extortionist, Scottine Ross aka Brett Rossi…who gets paid for sex as a prostitute and a porn star,” says a document filed by Sheen’s lawyers.
“Rossi is banking on the fact that Sheen will pay her millions of dollars to avoid the negative publicity surrounding this action… Rossi wants revenge” and to “punish Sheen for breaking off their engagement and cutting her off financially.”
The attorneys go on to claim that Rossi was aware of Sheen’s illness from the start of their relationship, and they say they can prove that her claims of physical abuse are entirely fabricated.
Sources say Sheen had initially planned to settle out of court, but is now hoping the case goes to trial so that he can prove his point.

Lamar Odom: Prostitute Reveals "Suspicious" Details About Overdose
In the weeks since Lamar Odom’s overdose at the Love Ranch brothel, several employees of the establishment have become wrapped up in the scandal.
Some have been accused of supplying Odom with drugs.
Others have quit in protest over what they feel was management’s decision to intentionally place Odom in a dangerous situation with prostitutes who were known for doing drugs with their clients.
One woman who lived and worked at the brothel was so upset by the turn of events that she ran away and was reported missing.
She’s since been found, but she’s far from the only Love Ranch resident to take her leave of the seedy establishment as a direct result of Odom’s near-death experience.
Simone Claire also quit working at Love Ranch shortly after Lamar was hospitalized, and she recently spoke to Radar Online and revealed some surprising new details about the former NBA’s stars time at the brothel.
“None of us wanted to go on vacation that week because we knew he was coming,” Claire says.
“He needed a ride down there and was told he would need to put down a $ 100 deposit. He did, and said ‘I’ll call back when I’m ready to be picked up.’…[The manager] had never picked anyone up before. That was suspicious to us.”
Claire was part of the “lineup” from which Odom chose the two prostitutes who would stay with him for the weekend, and she says he appeared intoxicated from the moment that he arrived.
“He already looked like he was on something,” says Simone. “He looked at me and had the biggest smile on his face.”
Odom wound up choosing Madison Montag and Ryder Cherry, both of whom are reportedly known for excessively “partying” with their clients.
Like some of the other women who work at Love Ranch, Claire believes Odom was encouraged to choose Montag and Cherry as a result of their reputations.

Bunny Lain: Lamar Odom Prostitute Reported Missing
When Lamar Odom was found unconscious in his VIP suite at the Love Ranch brothel last week, his life may have been saved by some of the women who work at the establishment.
Madison Montag and Ryder Cherry have been identified as two of the prostitutes who helped to revive Odom, but sources say the former NBA star made the acquaintance of many young ladies during his time at Love Ranch, many of whom were profoundly affected by his near-fatal overdose.
TMZ is now reporting that one of those women, a sex worker who goes by the name Bunny Lain, has disappeared from the brothel (where she both lived and worked) and has been reported missing by her friends.
“Bunny was extremely distraught over the unfortunate Lamar experience and could not quit crying for days,” says Love Ranch owner Dennis Hof.
Lain reportedly left the Ranch on Thursday night and has not been seen since.
Her co-workers say they pleaded with her not to leave in such a distraught state, but she reportedly insisted on going to Las Vegas, which is about an hour away from the brothel.
When Lain disappeared, Odom was near death. In the days since, he’s emerged from his coma and started physical therapy.
Lain’s friends are concerned by the fact that despite Odom’s remarkable turnaround, she still hasn’t contacted them.
