13 Most Memorably AWFUL Movies of 2017

The following movies didn"t merely receive a thumbs down from our staff.

They received a thumbs WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY down.

These films simply sucked in 2017.

Do you agree?

1. The Emoji Movie

The emoji movie is terrible

“Make no mistake, The Emoji Movie is very, very, very bad (we’re talking about a hyperactive piece of corporate propaganda in which Spotify saves the world and Sir Patrick Stewart voices a living turd), but real life is just too hard to compete with right now.” – David Ehrlich, IndieWire.

2. Jigsaw

Jigsaw

“[it] is one of the better films in the franchise. Unfortunately, that’s not saying much.” – Germain Lussier, io9.

3. The Layover

The layover

“I’d say it’s more like an excruciating, embarrassing, profoundly unfunny, poorly shot and astonishingly tone-deaf screech-fest featuring some of the least charismatic performances this side of one of those dreadful ‘reality’ shows in which over-injected women always seem to be yelling at one another while pouring wine or throwing wine at one another.” – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun Times.

4. Fifty Shades Darker

Fifty shades darker poster

“Lacking enough chemistry heat or narrative friction to satisfy, the limp Fifty Shades Darker wants to be kinky but only serves as its own form of punishment.” – Rotten Tomatoes.

5. Rings

Rings picture

“Opts for lazy jump scares and a convoluted origins story no one asked for or needed.” – Alex Gilyadov, IGN.

6. CHiPs

Chips still

“The film’s model is—or should have been—the movie version of 21 Jump Street and its sequel, but the co-directors of those bumptious nihilistic undercover burlesques, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, knew how to turn comedy into suspense and thrills into media-mad absurdity. Shepard just sprinkles overstated banter onto a generic plot and bits of pedal-to-the-metal action, as if he was serving the action-comedy gods by sticking the usual ingredients in a blender and pushing ‘purée."” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety.

Robert Osborne Dies: Beloved Turner Classic Movies Host Was 84

You may not recognize the name Robert Osborne, but if you’re a fan of the Turner Classic Movies network, you almost certainly recognize his face.

For 23 years, Osborn was the face of TCM, the number one cable destination for lovers of Old Hollywood and budding young filmmakers alike.

A respected film historian and preservationist, Osborne was hand-selected by Ted Turner when the network launched in 1994.

He was on the air to introduce the network’s very first film, Gone With the Wind, on April 14, 1994.

“Robert was embraced by devoted fans who saw him as a trusted expert and friend,” TCM general manager Jennifer Dorian said in a statement released moments ago.

“His calming presence, gentlemanly style, encyclopedia knowledge of film history, fervent support of film preservation and highly personal interviewing style all combined to make him a truly world-class host.”

Dorian added:

“Robert’s contributions were fundamental in shaping TCM into what it is today, and we owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.”

In addition to his time at TCM, Osborne worked as a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter for several decades.

His “Rambling Reporter” column ran in the magazine from 1983 to 2009 and was considered a must-read amongst industry insiders.

Tributes to Osborne began pouring in on social media within minutes of the announcement of this death, thus making the beloved TV icon a worldwide trending topic within minutes:

“Very sad to hear about Robert Osborne passing. I programmed on TCM with him in 2015 & it was a treat. He couldn’t have been more charming,” tweeted filmmaker Edgar Wright.

“Robert Osborne was a class act, a true gentleman & his historical nuggets as TCM host made watching those great old movies even better. RIP,” wrote Larry King.

“All of us are better for having known him – I know I am,” said Osborne’s longtime co-star Ben Mankiwiecz.

“So saddened by the death of Robert Osborne of @tcm. He helped spark my interest in classic films. He was a special man,” tweeted Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak.

One Twitter user suggested perhaps the best method of paying tribute to a man whose life was so fully devoted to the cinema:

“I think the best way to honor the life of Robert Osborne is to watch as many classic films as possible. Going to start right now. “

13 WORST Movies of 2016: How Low Did They Go?

We"re talking truly rancid.

But the drama has actually earned a 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the most trusted source for movie reviews on the Web, collating takes from many viewpoints around the globe to come up with a "score" for every film out there.

Sometimes, films are so bad that they earn a 0%; as in, every movie critic around the world absolutely despises these movies.

So… which big screen creations earned this hilariously low score in 2016?

Behold below: the 13 WORST MOVIES OF THE YEAR!

Term life

“It’s a wannabe noir with no atmosphere, and a waste of a talented cast by a director who really has no idea what to do with them.” – Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com

4. Precious Cargo

“What persuaded Bruce Willis to accept a role in this cheap-looking, poorly scripted, irredeemably derivative crime thriller is a question only he, and his agent, can answer.” – Brian Viner, Daily Mail

5. Amateur Night

Just because an actor works on a film doesn"t mean they"re proud of it.

Find out which 22 stars hated their own movies and weren"t afraid to admit it! Some of them may even surprise you.

1. Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck has one very specific regret when it comes to his past films. “The only movie I actually regret is Daredevil. It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f***ed up the way it did stays with me,” he said.

2. Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl wasn’t exactly a big fan of her 2007 film, Knocked Up. She called it “a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days.”

3. Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey regretted the 2010 film Kick-Ass because of the violence. Before the release of the film, he tweeted “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.”

4. George Clooney

George Clooney wasn’t happy with Batman & Robin at all. He was quoted saying, “With hindsight, it’s easy to look back at this and go, ‘Woah, that was really ****, and I was really bad in it!"”

5. Robert Pattinson
