Dennis Edwards: The Temptations" Lead Singer Dead at 74

The Temptations were a legendary music group, and you can hear one of their classic hits below.

Their R&B vocals have won them Grammys and have gotten them inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Sadly, The Temptations" lead singer, Dennis Edwards, has passed away today at age 74.

Dennis edwards

Signing with Motown Records, The Temptations were pioneers in the genre of psychedelic soul as well as for soul and R&B.

The group produced classic hits such as:

"Cloud Nine," back in 1968.

"Papa Was a Rollin" Stone."

"Ball of Confusion."

"I Can"t Get Next to You."

The temptations throwback photo

The lineup of The Temptations changed over the years, which is not uncommon for group acts that last for decades.

But Dennis Edwards was the on-again, off-again lead vocalist in the group.

His first stretch lasted from 1968 to 1977.

Even after that first departure, he would return and sing more within the group"s changing roster, returning in the early 1980s.

His contributions to the group as lead singer are significant.

Upon signing with the group, he was credited with heralding a shift to more blues-oriented music that confronted relevant social issues — a change from the previous lead singer"s falsetto.

His overall contributions to music as a genre cannot be measured.

TMZ reports that Dennis Edwards has passed away in Chicago.

The family has confirmed this to multiple news outlets, though they have not yet chosen to divulge his cause of death.

As we mentioned, Dennis Edwards was 74 years old.

He was born on February 3, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama.

This Saturday would have been his 75th birthday.

Dennis Edwards" fans will remember him for the grit of his voice.

He is treasured for injecting The Temptations" music with new vivacity.

It"s worth noting that every album that the group produced until 1976 charted into the Top 40, with many making it into the Top 10.

His voice was sampled by other music legends like Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. As we said, his impact on the arts was significant.

We wish his loved ones the best. May he rest in peace.

KJ Apa, Riverdale Lead, Crashes Car Following 16-Hour Work Day

KJ Apa, the lead actor on The CW’s Riverdale, was involved in a car accident last week after driving home past midnight, following an especially grueling work day.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apa had just completed 16 hours of acting on the set of the popular teenage drama.

Apa, who portrays Archie Andrews on the series, fell asleep behind the wheel and was fortunate to escape from the crash without serious injury.

But his car was apparently destroyed after it hit a light pole.

The incident has stirred up a significant amount of controversy, given that actors on Riverdale often work these kinds of shifts and are NOT provided with transportation home afterward.

SAG-AFTRA announced yesterday afternoon that the union would investigate the set in Vancouver after this dangerous crash.

“This is an extremely troubling situation and we are deeply concerned about the safety of performers on the Riverdale set,” the statement read.

“We are sending a team to Vancouver to review the circumstances surrounding safety issues affecting performers on this production.”

A call between reps for the actors and Warner Bros. executives is scheduled for Friday, meanwhile.

In a statement to Us Weekly, Warner Bros. has said the following:

The safety of the cast and crew on all of our productions is of paramount importance to the Studio. Productions adhere to the Screen Actors Guild–mandated turnaround time of 12 hours from wrap time to next day call time for cast members.

In accordance with industry standard policy, if any cast or crew member feels tired or unsafe at any time after working, the Studio will provide a taxi, a driver or a hotel room upon request.

This is communicated to all cast and crew, both in writing and verbally, at the beginning of production and is reiterated continuously throughout the duration of production.

While the sides work out this important issue, Apa’s Riverdale co-stars have taken to social media with evidence that their friend is doing okay.

apa

Camila Mendes, who plays the Veronica Lodge to his Archie, shared an Instagram Story pic of her colleague resting on the ground on Thursday, for example.

“U good?” she wrote along with it.

And Cole Sprouse – who decided at the last second against sharing a ride home with Apa on the night of his crash – posted a close-up of his pal wearing Jughead’s hat.

You can see that image below.

Concluded Warner Bros.:

“First and foremost, we are extremely grateful that KJ Apa was uninjured during his recent accident.

“Secondarily, we want to specifically address the characterization that conditions on the set of Riverdale are of concern.

more apa

“We have a large cast of series regulars, and our actors do not work every day.”

On the day of the accident, KJ worked 14.2 hours. The previous day he worked 2.5 hours, and the day before that he worked 7.7 hours.”

“KJ has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him.

“The accident occurred last Thursday.

“Additionally, it is untrue that KJ was taken to the hospital. He was treated by first responders on the scene and released by them.

“We also sent a doctor to his home later that same day for a follow-up to confirm his well-being.”

Kevin Can Wait to Kill Off Lead Character

During its first season on the air, Kevin Can Wait was known as yet another horribly unfunny CBS sitcom that featured obvious jokes and a cliche-ridden set-up:

An overweight main male character was married to a gorgeous wife and generally acted like a stereotypical buffoon.

Cue the laughs? We guess?

For season two, however, the producers have ensured that at least one of these premises will no longer hold true.

Because Erinn Hayes is about be killed off.

In June, it was announced that the actress would NOT be reprising her role on Donna this fall on the sitcom, which centers on Kevin James as a retired police officer with three kids.

Hayes had portrayed the character’s wife last year.

“True, I’ve been let go from the show,” Hayes wrote on Twitter earlier this summer, adding back on June 3:

“Very sad, I had a great experience season 1. Thank you for all the support from our wonderful fans.”

It was also confirmed during this cast shake-up that Leah Remini – who guest-starred on the spring finale and who appeared opposite James for seven years on the series King of Queens – would be added as a series regular for Season 2.

She’d basically be taking Hayes’ spot.

“Dreams do come true,” wrote the actress on Instagram in response to the news, adding the hashtags “#blessed #grateful.”

But the question still remained:

When the program returns, how would Kevin Can Wait explain that its lead character’s wife was now out of the picture?

We now have the answer.

“[Donna] will have passed away, and we will be moving forward in time,” CBS programming chief Thom Sherman told reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

Added CBS president Kelly Kahl: “It will be treated with dignity and respect, something that will have taken place in the past.”

Look for the sitcom to jump ahead about a year when it premieres on September 25.

James and Remini’s character won’t be love interests initially, either. That isn’t the plan.

Instead, in the new season, James’ character will join a new security firm run by Remini’s Vanessa.

“I think when everybody collectively saw how Leah and Kevin were together in those last couple of episodes, there was an undeniable spark there,” Kahl told reporters, adding:

“I think Leah and the studio and network got together and we wanted to keep that magic together.”

To be clear, Kevin Can Wait is a terrible TV show.

But you don’t see sitcoms kill off a lead character very often; hence the attention this decision has generated.

“The discussions went on,” Sherman said of why the show will go in this direction.

“We talked about other things. Ultimately, this what was decided with the producers that this was the best way to move forward.”

It’s certainly earned Kevin Can Wait headlines over the summer that it never would have received before.

Perhaps we’ll even tune in for Season 2 premiere in order to find out just how the series handles such an unusual situation.

And then as soon as Kevin James makes a quip about being fat, we’ll tune right out again.

Chris Cornell Dies; Lead Soundgarden Singer Was 52

Chris Cornell, a musician who rose to fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden before taking on the same role for Audioslave, died Wednesday night in Detroit.

He was 52 years old.

Brian Bumbery, a rep for the artist, has confirmed this sad piece of news to the Associated Press and other outlets.

Via a statement to CNN, Bumbery says that Cornell was performing in The Motor City with Soundgarden, which had embarked on a domestic tour in April, when he passed away.

He referred to the death as “sudden and unexpected,” saying in full:

“His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause.

“They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

Cornell had just taken the stage on Wednesday night at the Fox Theater in Detroit.

Soundgarden was among the most prominent bands in the grunge music scene that dominated the 1990s.

The band’s hits included “Spoonman,” ”Fell on Black Days,” ”Black Hole Sun,” “My Wave” and “The Day I Tried to Live.”

Cornell started his career in Seattle back in 1984 when he helped form the popular group.

We will need to await an autopsy before learning the cause of death, but Cornell was open through the years about his struggle with alcohol abuse and those close to him who died from a similar addiction.

“I’ve lost a lot of young, brilliant friends, people that I thought were very inspired,” he told Rolling Stone in 2015, adding:

“They’re all young and these guys all had limitless potential in their lives in front of them.”

It’s true:

With his passing, Cornell joins a long line of lead grunge rock singers who died at a young age. To wit:

Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home in 1994 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Alice in Chains’ original frontman, Layne Staley, died from a drug overdose in 2002.

Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots passed away of an accidental overdose in 2015.

Soundgarden won two Grammy Awards in 1995.

The track “Black Hole Sun” took home the Grammy for best hard rock performance, while the song “Spoonman” won for best metal performance that year.

After the band  broke up in 1997, Cornell performed solo for a few years prior to joining Audioslave, a super group that included former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford.

Soundgarden reunited in 2012 and released the band’s sixth studio album, “King Animal.”

Wrote Dave Navarro upon learning Cornell had died:

“SO SO stunned to hear about Chris Cornell! Such a terrible and sad loss! Thinking of his family tonight! RIP.”

We share the same sentiment.

Woman"s Shiny Legs Vex Internet, Lead to Mass Hysteria

Remember The Dress?

Remember spending several hours trying to decide whether it was white and gold or blue and black and then spending several more days arguing with friends about the answer?

Sorry. We just brought you back to a very dark place, didn’t we?

Our bad. Let’s move on to your next Internet obsession: this picture of two seemingly VERY shiny legs!

The image was posted to Instagram in September by someone named Hunter Culverhouse, but then re-posted on Twitter this week…

… and madness has ensued ever since.

How did this woman get her legs to shine in such a manner?!?

What substance is to blame for this level of glossiness?!?

Are you ready for the answer? Are you ready to feel sort of stupid? And yet not alone because an endless array of Internet users have made the same mistake for days on end?

Okay, here we go:

These legs are not shiny. There are simply streaks of white paint on them.

And the thing is, once you come to this realization, you won’t believe you ever thought the legs were shiny. It’s weird how the mind can work, isn’t it?

Now ALL you can see is white paint, right?

The World Wide Web has gone from confused to flabbergasted.

Wow! LMAO!

Was this some sort of giant hoax that Culverhouse planned?

Some way for her to make a statement about the mind and the eyes and one’s impressions and to make herself go viral for a litte bit?

Not exaclt.

“I was finishing off some art homework and had some white paint left on my brush and just decided to draw random lines,” she tells Buzzfeed.

“I had no intentions of making it look shiny.”

Oh. Okay then.

So… back to that dress: it’s not really black and blue, is it?!?

And speaking of seemingly shiny fluids on random people

Jill & Jessa Duggar: Could Orlando Shooting Comments Lead to Cancellation?!

Ever since the world learned of the largest mass shooting in U.S. history on Saturday night, countless public figures have shared their grief and offered condolences to the families of those killed in the tragedy inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

Reality star Jessa Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, were among the celebrities who attempted to share comforting words with the victims’ loved ones…

Unfortunately, in Jessa and Ben’s case, those words came from infamous anti-gay leader Albert Mohler

In case you missed it, Mohler is the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He’s best known for encouraging all Christians to boycott the weddings of their LGBTQ friends and family.

Naturally, Jessa didn’t mention any of this when she posted this meme:

Along with a caption from of a quote from Mohler, reading:

“This is when we show that Christians mourn with those who mourn. May the Gospel of Jesus Christ be evident as the only power greater than a broken heart.”

Many fans were quick to point out that a quote from a man who has repeatedly and publicly condemned the gay community as a cesspool of sin and encouraged those with LGBTQ friends and family to cut ties is not the best response to a gunman killing dozens of patrons of a gay nightclub.

Given that Jessa’s reality show, Jill & Jessa: Counting On, was already facing cancellation, many believe this may be the final straw for TLC execs.

While the show has consistently received decent ratings, several advertisers have pulled their support as a result of lingering controversy over the Josh Duggar sex scandals.

TLC has not yet announced that the show has been renewed for a second season, which has led many to speculate that they’ve quietly given Counting On the axe.

However, recent activity in the network’s promotion department has resulted in rumors that the Duggars have been renewed, and the network is just waiting for a relatively controversy-free period to make the announcement.

Will this latest dust-up result in a change of heart? Only time will tell, but right now, the future is not looking bright for Jessa and her older sister/co-star.

President Obama Assures Veteran: I Am NOT the Lead Singer From Korn!

On Wednesday, the nation celebrated Veterans Day, and numerous public figures took time to thank the men and women of America"s armed forces for their service.

Yesterday, as part of the White House"s week-long tribute to our nation"s troops, President Obama presented Army Captain Florent Groberg with the Medal of Honor – and dropped a bombshell that"s certain to shake the world of American politics to its foundation.

In his speech, Obama shared the following account of the first time he met Groberg:

"He woke up on a hospital bed in a little bit of a haze. He wasn’t sure, but he thought that he was in Germany, and someone was at his bedside talking to him And he thought that it was the lead singer from the heavy metal band Korn.

"Flo thought, "What’s going on? Am I hallucinating?" But he wasn’t, it was all real…And so, today, Flo, I want to assure you that you are not hallucinating. You are actually in the White House, those cameras are on, I am not the lead singer from Korn."

Obviously, this statement is outrageous for a number of reasons.

For one thing, President Obama (if that is your real name), it was your duty to inform the American people that you"re not the lead singer of Korn before we twice elected you to the highest office in the land!

What if those votes were based on your innovative vocal stylings on "Freak On a Leash"?

Also, Korn was really more of a rap-rock outfit than a "heavy metal band."

It"s an important distinction, because – as indicated by the correlation between the release of Ben Carson"s hip hop track and his rise in popularity – the American people want a president who can spit bars, son.

Frankly, we don"t know what to believe anymore.

All this time, Donald Trump"s been calling for Obama"s birth certificate, when all we really needed to do was take note of the President"s conspicuous lack of gold records and shiny Adidas track suits to know we"d been had.

President obama assures veteran i am not the lead singer from ko
