McKayla Maroney Sues USA Gymnastics: They Forced Me to Stay Silent!
In October, McKayla Maroney revealed that she’d been molested by her team doctor, Larry Nassar. That makes her one of more than 140 survivors who accuse him of the same thing.
From the outset, it’s been strongly hinted that there were people who knew about Nassar’s sexual predation and kept quiet.
Now, McKayla’s taking action against the people whom she accuses of covering up a monster in their midst.
McKayla is only one of many young women who have accused Dr. Nassar of molesting them when they were girls, preying upon them under the guise of “treatment.”
Dr. Nassar has been sentenced for child porn charges, and has pleaded guilty to molesting 10 girls.
Obviously, that’s just a drop in the awful bucket beside the number of women who accuse him.
Wednesday, McKayla Maroney filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics.for the role that she says that they played in covering up Dr. Nassar’s monstrous deeds.
As part of a financial settlement (of a reported sum of $ 1.25 million) so that McKayla could get needed psychological treatments, USA Gymnastics allegedly included a non-disclosure agreement.
Maroney’s lawyer says that USA Gymnastics forced this provision so that “it could further conceal and shield from public scrutiny, outside investigation, and law enforcement, the true nature of Nassar’s horrific sexual abuse of minors.”
Dr. Nassar’s misdeeds are not really in question. Again, this is a man who has already confessed to multiple counts of molestation.
“Plaintiff alleges that Defendant USAG had a plan to keep the sexual abuse of Nassar quiet, and allow Nassar to quietly leave USAG, further silencing his victims.”
To be fair, apparently USA Gymnastics contacted the FBI with at least some information on Larry Nassar, but allegedly failed to raise any kind of public alarm.
Which may have allowed him to find new victims.
The NDA would then appear to be a measure intended to conceal any wrongdoing by USA Gymnastics — hiding their mistake in hiring Nassar and also hoping to bury his misdeeds forever.
If you’re thinking gee, how can McKayla speak up on this if she signed a non-disclosure agreement? … well, funny thing about that.
(Funny probably isn’t the right word, here)
McKayla Maroney lives in California, where survivors of child sexual abuse — like McKayla — cannot be forced to sign NDAs as part of a settlement.
Which is probably why McKayla’s attorney, John Manly, had zero kind words to say about the agreement:
He referred to it as “hypocritical, immoral, and in this case illegal.”
We’re no legal scholars, but it sounds like he’s right.
Manly had further choice words for USA Gymnastics, and specifically for whoever among them new about Dr. Nassar but allegedly prioritized avoiding public embarrassment, allowing him to go on and find new prey at the University of Michigan.
“Those responsible for this should be removed from the Olympic movement and USA Gymnastics.”
That sounds fair. As punishment and as a deterrent, so that this will hopefully never happen again.
“If they would treat one of the most famous athletes in world like this, how poorly would they treat a recreational gymnast abused by her coach.”
That’s a really good point. McKayla Maroney is a household name. She’s met the President. (Well, the good one, from last year)
Look at how hard McKayla is having to fight for justice, and she’s a celebrity.
Someone with no celebrity status would surely be much more intimidated — by Dr. Nassar and by any attempts to shush them by USA Gymnastics.
With more and more sex monsters being exposed every day, we hope that the world will become a safer place for women and girls.
But that’s going to take time.
It’s also going to take these predatory men, and the people who helped keep their secrets, facing real consequences.
That, we think, is what McKayla aims to do.

Kylie and Kendall: SILENT on Their New Lingerie Line. What"s Going On?!
For as much backlash as Kendall and Kylie have gotten for what some describe as stealing the brands of other celebrities, you might expect them to not do that. Instead, it looks like they’re taking a page out of Beyonce’s book.

Kendall and Kylie have come out with a new line of lingerie — but they haven’t said a word to promote it.
We don’t know if Kendall and Kylie aren’t proud of this particular product, if they think that Kylie’s pregnancy will generate all of the publicity that they could need, or if they’re experimentally flexing the power of their brand.
Or maybe they just forgot.
Whatever the reason, be it method or madness, Kendall and Kylie’s lingerie line is now available at Topshop. It’s called the “Kendall + Kylie” lingerie collection, and it launched on Wednesday.
And this occasion was heralded, not with a tweet, but with a whimper. … That is, neither sister plugged it on social media. That’s so rare for either of them, but for both of them to completely forget to promote their own products?
That’s almost enough to make you believe those bonkers celebrity clone theories.
Well, not really. But it sure is different. You’d think that Kris Jenner taught them better than that.
But maybe, just maybe, this isn’t an accident.
Cosmopolitan expressed their shock over Kendall and Kylie’s lingerie line going unannounced.
“But here’s the plot twist: They didn’t tell anyone. This isn’t even an ICYMI, because literally everyone missed it. The line simply appeared on Topshop’s website, as if by magic.”
Well … not by magic. Some writers and coders and maybe even some graphic designers set it up and then someone hit “publish.”
But there wasn’t any pomp and circumstance surrounding it, either.
Cosmo reported on the actual lingerie line itself.
“The capsule is co-designed by Fleur du Mal founder and creative director Jennifer Zuccarini, and it features plenty of velvet, mesh, and lace.”
That makes sense for lingerie.
“Styles range from sheer bodysuits to athletic shorts and basic bralettes.”
So some of it is designed to work as sexy outerwear. Despite the lack of promotional tweets or whatever, that’s very on-brand.
W Magazine shared that feeling of dismay.
“Kendall and Kylie Jenner aren’t usually shy about self promotion on social media. (After all, their family has built a career out of it.) But when their new collection with Topshop dropped today, there wasn’t as much as a tweet or post about it from either of the sisters.”
See? We’re not alone in thinking that this is out of character.
In fact, neither Kendall nor Kylie modeled for the clothing.
Instead, a brunette model with similar coloring to the Kardashian girls modeled the lingerie on the Topshop website. She looks great but, again, usually the Jenner sisters promote their own brand and use that as a key to their success.
The big theory that we have — and we’re not the only ones — to explain this is simple:
Maybe Kendall and Kylie are pulling a Beyonce. Beyonce is famous for dropping albums and music videos with zero notice. No announcements, no billboards, nothing.
It’s a power play on her part. Beyonce’s influence is such that her music tops charts by word of mouth.
Maybe Kendall and Kylie are testing the waters to see if they can mimic that strategy.
However, let’s put forward an alternate theory.
What if, rather than just a capricious experiment to see how powerful their brand is … if this is instead a test run for the future?
Kylie Jenner is about to become a mom. At 20. Which is bonkers. But that means that she’s not going to have the kind of free time that she used to.
That means less time for modeling her products and it also means less time for social media.
Kendall is a genuine, honest-to-goodness supermodel. She works for a living in perhaps the most “normal” job held by any member of the Kardashian clan.
Practically speaking, the two of them won’t be able to do as many in person promotions of their products in the near future. They need to know how well their goods are going to sell as they make financial plans in terms of personal spending and business decisions.
Maybe this is a test run for the future.
Or … maybe we’re reading too much into it.

Taylor Swift Posts Creepy, Silent Teaser Video with Zero Explanation
Remember when Taylor Swift purged her social media accounts, wiping out every post and every photo? Her big "Blank Space" event of 2017.
Well she"s back, uploading the same post to Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram — with no words and no audio. Just a short, silent video.
Of a snake.
Okay, so, we all remember how, after enjoying two years at the very top of the celebrity food chain, Taylor Swift was betrayed in 2016.
Overexposure from being adored so strongly for her 1989 album had large portions of the population primed to turn on Taylor over pretty much anything.
They got two excuses:
First, following their breakup Calvin Harris ranted about Taylor on Twitter.
Smelling blood in the water, Kim Kardashian struck.
Months earlier, Kim Kardashian had secretly recorded a phone conversation between Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
Carefully judging her timing, Kim released a series of Snapchat videos of that call, which — though we don"t get the full conversation — made it appear that Taylor Swift had been fully aware of Kanye"s hurtful lyrics about her.
People who resented Taylor Swift but had been holding their silence for ages took to Twitter, and that hateful "Taylor Swift Is Over Party" was born.
And Taylor"s detractors celebrated by referring to Taylor as a "snake" and by posting snake emojis as comments on her social media.
Classy, guys.
But it"s impossible to look at Taylor"s teaser video, of a snake"s tail, and not think of those emojis.
As Taylor certainly was.
Throughout that entire shameful affair in 2016 and through Taylor"s remaining largely quiet on social media since then, we"ve been eagerly anticipating what sort of music Taylor would write about her experience.
It looks like we"re going to get to hear it at last, and before too long.
There"s no telling if this video is leading up to a single or an album or both. Taylor hasn"t actually said anything yet.
But we think that it"s safe to say that Taylor Swift posting a snake"s tail video isn"t a preview of a wildlife documentary she"s been working on.
We have to note that releasing a teaser that"s so minor and enigmatic is such a power move and we are here for it.
Honestly, we"re having so much fun imagining possible names and titles for albums and songs.
Serpentine?
Ouroboros? That"s the snake devouring its own tail, a metaphor for basically everything.
Lamia? That"s a half-human, half-snake who devours young men. That would be perfect for Taylor, in the vein of "Blank Space."
Gorgon? Snakes for hair might be a little on-the-nose, but it would be a great metaphor for media attention (gaze turning folks to stone and all that).
Apep? That"s the serpentine demon of the night who battles the Sun God Re to bring about eternal darkness.
Venom? Straight and to the point.
We saw the snake"s tail without the snake"s head, so we"re not predicting a song called "Amphisbaena" just yet — though that"s a two-headed snake.
Obviously, Taylor isn"t going to let us name her album or the tracks on it.
If she did, though, we"d name that album "Lamia."
We think (and hope) that enough time has passed that Taylor can come back into the spotlight after being essentially absent for so long.
Taylor Swift won her countersuit against the man she accused of sexually assaulting her.
It"s only been, what, a week since that victory, and she"s already teasing her new music.
It looks to us like Taylor was just waiting to put her legal battle behind her before she moved forward with new music.
1989 was one of the best albums that we"ve heard in our lives, so we really cannot wait to hear what she"ll come out with next.

Blac Chyna: Rob Kardashian Beat Me, Forced Me to Stay Silent
Earlier today, Rob Kardashian took to social media to fire some shocking allegations at his former fiancee, Blac Chyna.
Rob claimed Blac cheated on him while they were together and bizarrely taunted him with video evidence of her sleeping with other men after they broke up.
He also accused her of being addicted to cocaine and ecstasy, using him for his fame and money, and skipping their daughter’s first Fourth of July celebration in order to do drugs and have sex with an aspiring rapper who goes by the name of Ferrari.
Needless to say, the allegations could prove highly damaging to Blac’s reputation.
So it’s not surprising that she wasted no time in firing back.
But it is surprising that she’s responded with some very serious allegations that could land Rob in legal trouble.
Chyna took to Snapchat to deny Rob’s infidelity and drug use accusations.
She went on to claim that he physically assaulted her during their time together.
In the post pictured above, Blac wrote:
“Rob u did all this but beat me up and try to act it never happen !!!!! U put hand on me I swear on god !!!!! On my kids but I’m supposed to be quiet because you’re a Kardashian
Rob has yet to respond to the allegations of physical abuse.
But it doesn’t look as though he’ll be ending his social media assault on Blac’s reputation any time soon.
Rob even went so far as to threaten Chyna with never seeing their daughter again, writing:
“U will never see Dream again unless stop the alcohol and drugs and cocaine and X and E. lol. That’s called a party pack.”
Rob claims to have personally supplied Blac with hard drugs both during their relationship and after their breakup.
Bizarrely, Rob and Blac reportedly had sex just two weeks ago and sources say the former couple been enjoying an amicable breakup/co-parenting relationship before Rob’s tirade this morning.
According to TMZ Rob lost his temper upon learning that Blac had been hooking up with Ferrari for “several months” and decided to take to social media to allege not only that she was an unfit mother, but also that she had been lying about receiving plastic surgery post-pregnancy.
Rob and Blac broke up back in December amidst allegations that she had physically assaulted him, but they’ve reconciled several times since.

Jill and Jessa Duggar: Radio Silent on Josh and Anna"s Pregnancy Announcement
Sometimes, silence really can be deafening.
On the Duggar family’s official website Friday, Josh and Anna Duggar announced that they are expecting a fifth child together this year.
His younger siblings, who are typically quick to gush over each other’s life milestones, aren’t exactly rushing to congratulate him.
The news that Josh and Anna Duggar are having a fifth child was shared via a simple blog post Friday, in which the couple said this:
“For nearly the last two years, we have quietly worked to save our marriage, focus on our children, and rebuild our lives as a family.”
“Doing so is never easy after a breach of trust.”
“We have learned that a life of faith and rebuilding a life together is simply done one day at a time,” Josh, 29, and Anna, 28, continued.
“As we continue our journey as a family and rebuild our lives, we are delighted to share that we are expecting a new baby boy later this year.”
“Beauty comes from ashes and we cannot wait to see and kiss the face of this sweet new boy! [Signed] Josh & Anna.”
Members of Duggar Nation need no reminders of the fact that the road by which Josh got Anna pregnant again was a long and bumpy one.
So bumpy, the wounds have not yet healed for some members of his family, even if Anna has moved past Josh’s infamous sex scandals.
Sisters Jill and Jessa Duggar were among the five child molestation victims Josh violated when he was a teenager in the early 2000s.
While they put on a good front after that scandal was exposed in 2015, they’ve kept a distance from him ever since – including now.
The duo, typically active on social media – and especially so in the wake of big family news – has been radio silent for two-plus days.
The echo chamber pretty much says it all.
Jill’s last Instagram update came one week ago, featuring her husband Derick Dillard in Central America on the couple’s mission trip.
Jessa was active as recently as Sunday evening, sharing with fans new pictures of her adorable sons Spurgeon and Henry Wilberforce.
Not a word about Josh and Anna’s news.
While you may not think the absence of public comment is a huge deal, consider that it rarely if ever happens with the married sisters.
Jessa and husband Ben Seewald immediately shared a video following the announcement of Joseph Duggar courting Kendra Caldwell.
And after Joy-Anna Duggar got engaged to Austin Forsyth this winter … and Jinger Duggar got engaged to Jeremy Vuolo last year.
Lest you think that pregnancies don’t necessarily warrant congratulations, Jessa made mention of Jill’s second just a few months ago.
Like Josh and Anna, Jill and Derick Dillard (already parents to son Israel) recently announced they are expecting a baby boy this summer.
Unlike with Josh and Anna, Jessa is thrilled.
For their part, both Ben Seewald and Jeremy Vuolo have voiced … opposition to The Shack, a controversial movie currently in theaters.
The degree of bad blood between the Duggars and Josh has been the subject of debate for two years, and isn’t definitively known.
Clearly, we won’t know everything that goes on behind closed doors, and they’re never going to throw any shade (at Anna especially).
Still, considering their silence on social media and the way TLC went out of its way to scrub Josh out of Jinger’s wedding footage (above)?
It feels safe to say his past behavior, anathema to pretty much all that they stand for, makes everyone at least a little uneasy to this day.
