Jerry Seinfeld Actually Defends Roseanne Barr
First, Jerry Seinfeld refuses to hug Kesha. Now he’s defending Roseanne Barr, of all people.
Remember how Roseanne Barr got fired for her racist tweets?
Seinfeld thinks that canning her was overkill.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jerry Seinfeld defends Roseanne Barr, which has left a lot of people scratching their heads and others outraged.
“I didn’t see why it was necessary to fire her,” Seinfeld said.
Seinfeld then hits his interviewer with a very peculiar analogy.
“Why would you murder someone who’s committing suicide?” Seinfeld asks.
The suggestion seems to be that Roseanne was killing her own show or career and that ABC should have “let the market decide” when her show would end.
That perspective is both devoid of moral judgment and, quite frankly, seems to be willfully ignoring broader PR and business concerns for ABC and for Disney.
Mostly, Seinfeld sounds bewildered at how quickly Roseanne sabotaged her own career and her own show.
“But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push,” Seinfeld muses.
ABC greenlit a Roseanne spinoff, The Connors. This will give 200 people, including the cast, jobs for at least another season.
(We would point out that some of those crew members may have missed other job opportunities since they were already on Roseanne, so this is very welcome news)
Jerry Seinfeld has opinions about that, too.
“I think they should get another Roseanne.” Seinfeld suggests.
Recasting someone for that famous titular role would be a bizarre choice, especially since the character’s name is also the actor’s name.
“They brought Dan Conner back,” Seinfeld points out.
Seinfeld mentions that the character’s resurrection is somewhat famous, pointing out that “he was dead and they brought him back.”
For that reason, he believes, a simple recasting wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination.
“So,” Seinfeld asks, with Dan’s resurrection in mind. “Why can’t we get another Roseanne?”
For one thing, Barr would probably have to sign off on that.
Seinfeld argues: “There’s other funny women that could do that part.”
Sure. But … what, some wonder, would be the point of making an awkward situation more awkward?
“You need,” Seinfeld insists. “To get the comic in there.”
“I hate to see a comic lose a job,” he laments.
A pity that he doesn’t reserve some of that hate for dehumanizing racism.
Twitter saw Seinfeld’s comments and responded by excoriating him.
One person tweeted: “Please f–k off Jerry, thank you!”
Short and to the point. Not terribly sweet, though.
Another tried to explain: “Hello. Disney is an international company. By Keeping her they’re saying the agree with her views. Think about the repercussions this could have on Disney around the world. They had no choice.”
Very reasonable.
Another tweeted: “well Curb > Seinfeld so yea.”
That is referring to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Another settled for a gentle burn: “Seinfeld, didn’t his show get cancelled?”
To clarify, Roseanne has years of history of being explicitly racist on Twitter. We don’t mean “edgy” humor. We mean sincere tweets about combatting “Jewish mind-control.”
Roseanne has also expressed the belief that Donald Trump is conducting secret arrests of non-existent Illuminati pedophile rings. She routinely shares fringe-right conspiracy theories on social media.
So, while one particular tweet became the focus of viewers’ ire, Roseanne hardly ended her career with a single button-push.
Instead, it was death of a thousand cuts, and that tweet, if you’ll allow mixed metaphors, was the final straw.

Jerry Seinfeld SLAMS the Kardashians. Find Out Why.
Earlier this week, Jerry Seinfeld made (hilarious) headlines for rejecting a hug attempt by Kesha.
On the red carpet of an event in New York City, the comedian was approached by the enthusiastic singer, who wanted nothing more than to embrace one of her favorite celebrities.
But Seinfeld wasn’t having it.
He was polite. He wasn’t mean to the artist or anything.
But he said “no thanks” three times in response to three separate requests for a quick embrace.
In case you somehow missed it, fear not! You can check out the viral footage below.
It’s pretty terrific:
After being told just how many people watched his dissing of Kesha, Seinfeld told a reporter that he meant no harm.
He really had no clue who she was and he doesn’t like to hug total strangers.
“I’m sure I would’ve liked her. But I need to know who [you are],” Seinfeld said to Extra, being sure to clarify that he meant no offense to Kesha by his gesture.
This is all a long preamble to say that Seinfeld did, indeed, mean A LOT of offense to Kim Kardashain and her family members in an interview with Mr. Porter.
Asked by the magazine about his parenting style, Seinfeld said he never loses his temper around his kids.
As you might imagine, he’s a pretty even-keeled father.
HOWEVER…
“The one time I really, really got upset was when my daughter was watching the Kardashians on her phone in her bed and I could not take that scene.”
For what reason?
As someone who created what some believe is the best show in TV history, and as someone who had to work extremely hard to have that opportunity, Seinfeld just can’t handle how little the Kardashians have done to earn their fame and fortune.
He explained his view as follows:
“For someone who for their whole life, television was the Olympics of being a comedian. It was only for the very best. You had to have everything.
“You had to go through all the different hierarchies of your career to get to television.”
This is why Seinfeld is “offended by reality television on many levels” and why he believes Keeping Up with the Kardashians “is the premiere example of reality television.”
Concluded the long-time star:
“These people are not doing anything interesting.”
Yes, this is ironic coming from a guy who proudly produced a show “about nothing,” as Seinfeld often described his beloved sitcom.
But it’s pretty easy to see what he means.
Stand-up comedians really do toil away in front of crowds of 25… and then maybe 50… and then maybe they cross the 100-person barrier.
But they travel across the country and earn very little and stay at crappy hotels as they build any semblance of a career.
The lucky and talented ones can eventually earn enough to make a living in this industry; the VERY lucky and talented ones star in their own show that lasts for many seasons and go down in history as a true legend.
As for Kim Kardashian?
She got plowed hard by Ray J on video and took off her clothes a bunch of times on Instagram.
Not exactly the same path to stardom.
As you can see above, Seinfeld isn’t the first celebrity to come out and say negative things about the Kardashians.
Although his take on them was more reasoned and measured than many before them.
Click around above to see what we mean.
Jerry Seinfeld Explains Total and Complete Snub of Kesha
Jerry Seinfeld may have starred on the funniest sitcom in the history of the universe, but he took a page from one of the few shows that can make this same claim earlier in the week.
Approached by Kesha on the red carpet of an event in New York City and asked for a hug, Seinfeld went all Arrested Development on the singer, basically replying:
NO TOUCHING!
Three times.
Seinfeld was forced to reject Kesha on three separate occasions when she repeatedly pushed to wrap her arms around the iconic comedian while he was giving an interview.
Taken aback by the request, Seinfeld simply replied “no thanks” when Kesha said she wanted to give him a hug.
Then he said it again. And again after that because Kesha just wouldn’t accept the unexpected rejection.
“I don’t know who that was,” Seinfeld told the reporter following the awkward interaction.
It was Kesha, the journalist responded.
“Well, I wish her the best,” Seinfeld said, laughing pretty hard over the whole thing.
The incident (which you simply HAVE to watch above) went viral for two reasons:
1. It was hilarious.
2. It was the rare occasion when a celebrity showed his or her true self. There was no artifice here. There was no concern on Seinfeld’s part over how he might come across. He simply didn’t want to give someone a hug… so he chose not to.
And he chose not to in simple, kind fashion.
The snub went made headlines across the Internet, prompting Seinfeld to explain himself at the GOOD+ Foundation and MR PORTER Fatherhood Lunch on Thursday
“I’m 63, I don’t know every pop star … I don’t know everyone,” he said, adding: I’m not [a hugger].”
It’s true.
If Kesha really were as big a fan of the comedian’s as she claims to be, she’d remember the entire Seinfeld episode he dedicated back in the day to his disdain for greeting someone with a peck on the cheek.
And that was a reference to someone he knows!
“I was right in the middle of an interview, it was a little off,” Seinfeld added of the viral moment.
“When you get to be my age and you’ve done a couple things, you have your own reality, in my reality … I don’t hug a total stranger.
“I have to meet someone, say ‘hello.’ I gotta start somewhere … hug isn’t first moment of a human, two humans. I never did that.”
Jerry would have needed to respond by asking What’s the deal with random hugs?!? for this response to truly be classic Seinfeld. But it came pretty close.
The actor proceeded to joke that he has a “borderline harassment case” on his hands if he chose to make a big deal of it.
But then he turned a tad bit serious in wanting to make sure Kesha wasn’t too offended.
“I’m sure I would’ve liked her,” Jerry told Extra. “But I need to know who are you.”
It doesn’t help that Kesha has dropped the dollar sign from her name and rid her face of all glitter.
Perhaps if she kept both those things as part of her persona, and perhaps if she had yelled “TIMBER!” upon approaching Seinfeld, this situation could have been avoided, Jerry would have recognized her and a hug would have ensured.
We doubt it.
But it’s possible.
For the sake of our funny bone, however, we’re glad this wasn’t the case.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to scroll up and watch that video again.

Jerry Seinfeld Has No Interest in Hugging Kesha
Anyone who has watched Seinfeld is well aware that the show"s main star is not a fan of obligatory hello kisses.
There was an entire episode dedicated to how Jerry would go to extreme lengths in order to avoid pecking a female friend on the cheek upon greeting her.
But apparently Kesha missed this one.
Much to her current embarrassment.
On Tuesday night, both Kesha and Jerry Seinfeld attended the David Lynch Foundation"s A Night of Laughter and Song at the Kennedy Center.
At one point on the red carpet, the iconic comedian was talking to a reporter about being tired and trying to sleep when the singer rushed over and told Seinfeld how she loves him “so much.”
Jerry was a bit taken aback, but he acknowledged Kesha"s praise with a smile and said "oh, thanks."
But this wasn"t enough for poor Kesha, who proceeded to go in for a hug."
No thanks, Seinfeld responded.
Please, asked Kesha.
No thanks, Seinfeld said again.
A little one? Kesha replied.
Yeah, no thanks, Seinfeld calmly shot back.
And that was it!
Kesha walked away in shame and Seinfeld cracked up.
Not out of cruelty or anything, just out of the oddness of the situation.
He didn"t want to hug a stranger. Can you blame the guy?!?
"I don"t know who that was," Seinfeld said to the reporter after the interaction.
He was then informed he was Kesha and responded, "Well, I wish her the best."
It"s an amazing clip.
And if Kesha is feeling at all bad about herself as a result of it, we"re guessing that Jerry was thrown off by her lack of glitter and the lack of a dollar sign in her name.
If she still rocked those accessories, Seinfeld totally would have gone in for a quick embrace upon recognizing her right away.
Watch the HUG FAIL for yourself:

Jerry Seinfeld Under Fire for Inappropriate Black Lives Matter Joke!
Jerry Seinfeld has really done it this time.
If you thought Michael Richards’ infamous and incredibly racist rant was bad … no, actually Michael Richards’ rant was unquestionably worse.
But still, Jerry messed up big time.
See, Jerry has this web series called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The premise is that Jerry drives around a comedian and they talk about things while — you guessed it! — drinking coffee.
The latest episode of the show features Lewis Black, which is great, that’s fine.
But here’s how he chose to promote it:
“New! Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Lewis Black,” he wrote.
Then, horror of all horrors, he actually added “Black’s life matters.”
Because sure, why not make a pun out of a movement that began as an attempt to stop racism and police brutality? That sounds like a marvelous idea, doesn’t it?
Now, of course what Jerry said wasn’t unforgivable or anything — he didn’t joke about the actual movement, he just used it for a dumb pun.
But it’s just not the time. He should have known that, and he probably did, he just didn’t particularly care.
And people all across Twitter all calling him out for it.
“What the f-ck Jerry” wrote one confused follower, while another simply said “Yikes.”
“Who’s writing your tweets now?” someone asked. “The Breitbart humor section staff?”
A fan told him that “This is worse than the finale of Seinfeld which I still don’t like” — totally fair — while another wrote “Not f-cking funny! Would you find humor in a joke about the holocaust?”, which seems a little extra.
One follower acknowledged Jerry’s hatred of political correctness, writing “Hey I know you think college kids are too PC but I’m in my 30s and this crap was really offensive and lame.”
But speaking of being too PC, just as many of Jerry’s followers were offended that people were offended at Jerry’s joke.
“PC police coming for you with their fake outrage,” someone warned him. Another suggested that “The PC people need to remove their stick.”
One fan played both sides of the issue, writing “Huge supporter of BLM and I laughed. Guess I can separate a serious social movement from a pun by a comedian.”
“Malcom X would be outraged! JK This is literally the least offensive tweet of all time,” one follower claimed.
Another person got way too outraged and actually wrote “The Left wants to destroy comedy. They are speech nazis and fascists. Keep on doing you Jerry! Don’t let haters win.”
As of now, Jerry still hasn’t deleted the tweet in question, and we’d be very surprised if he did.

Tennis Pro Milos on "Seinfeld" "Memba Him?!
Mark Harelik may have only made one appearance on “Seinfeld” as the braggadocious tennis pro, Milos, in the 1997 episode, “The Comeback” … but his game will live on in infamy. Guess what he looks like now!
