Fergie Apologizes for Disastrous National Anthem
Forgive the mixed sports metaphor, but Fergie really wishes she could have a mulligan on her NBA All-Star Game national anthem performance.
The artist made headlines for all the wrong reasons on Sunday night after she donned a sexy dress and then belted out some kind of sultry rendition of our nation’s theme song.
Pretty much every single person who heard this version of the Star-Spangled Banner laid into it. Hard.
We mean it, too: Every. Single. Person.
Heck, even Roseanne Barr claimed her disrespectful and disastrous performance way back in 1990 was better than whatever Fergie was trying to accomplish.
We disagree with that assessment.
But the general point remains: This was a baffling and bizarre rendition by Fergie.
Take a look and take a listen for yourself if you have not already done so:
In the wake of universal panning across the Internet, Fergie has taken a step we can’t ever recall an artist taking after he or she performed a less-than stellar anthem:
She’s come out and apologized.
“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said in a statement first published by TMZ.
The statement continued:
“I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
Pretty impressive, right?
Many stars over the years have attempted to put their own spin on this legendary song by holding certain notes for a long period of time or emphasizing certain lyrics.
Fergie likely thought she would attempt something similar.
She just lacks the vocal range to pull anything too unique off with her range, so she went the seductive route instead.
It failed miserable, as evidenced by the Tweets below…
… but it’s hard not to admire Fergie for admitting it and for taking responsibility for it.
And we certainly never thought for a second that Fergie had anything but love for the United States.
At various points, the Black Eyed Pea seemed to struggle to hit notes, although she closed out the tune with an impressive vibrato, telling the arena at the very end:
“Let’s play some basketball!”
Thankfully, the All-Star Game itself was so competitive that some people forgot all about Fergie’s opening fail.
Some, that is. But very clearly not most.

By now, you’ve likely read the Internet’s stunned and spirited reactions to Fergie’s rendition of the national anthem prior to Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game.

Viewers should have been clued in to Fergie’s plan before she even opened her mouth, considering the revealing attire the singer chose to wear for the occasion.
It proved to be quite (form) fitting, as the Black-Eyed Pea went on to deliver what some believe to have been the worst Star-Spangled Banner performance in history…
… but which was definitely the most seductive.
While Fergie tried to turn the persistent nature of the American flag into something sultry and sexy, cameras caught such stars as Jimmy Kimmel and Draymond Green reacting with a mixture of confusion, humor and horror.
“Literally dying at these reactions. Fergie with the worst rendition ever,” wrote one bemused Twitter user.
Added @CoryTowns: “LMAOOOOOOOOO FERGIE SOUND LIKE A BODEGA CAT.”
Charles Barkley even joked on TNT that he needed a “cigarette” after witnessing Fergie pay her unique tribute to the country.
But, hey, if Fergie’s goal was to make headline, she certainly accomplished that much, right?
The criticism has grown to such an extent, however, that even Roseanne Barr has gone ahead and chimed in on the debacle.
Yes, the same Roseanne Barr who very likely did give us the absolute worst national anthem rendition in the history of the world.
It took place in 1990 right before the first pitch of a San Diego Padres game… it was more off-key than the most nauseating of American Idol auditions… it ended with a crotch grab … and it even caused President George H.W. Bush to label the entire act as “disgraceful.”
Before we get to what Barr said about Fergie, it’s worth reliving this trainwreck.

Still, despite whatever the heck one would call THIS nonsense, Roseanne happily jumped on board the Fergie hate train last night.
“Who saw Fergie’s national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game?” she Tweeted, adding:
“I think mine was better lowkey.”
Barr, of course, is actually bringing her formerly beloved sitcom back to the air in a few weeks, so we understand why she would want to chime in and make herself relevant again here.
It’s a form of promotion for the series.
But it’s also flat-out ridiculous.
Go ahead and watch that Roseanne performance again.
It’s disrespectful and abhorrent.
It’s a a blatant attempt to make a mockery out of our country’s theme song.
Say what you want about Fergie here, but she was mostly just trying to be different. She was trying to put a unique spin on an old favorite.
She may have wanted all male viewers to feel something rising in their crotches while they listened, but at least she didn’t actually grab her crotch and then spit on the ground.
Roseanne really did this after finishing her version of the song.
You can contrast it with other national anthem performances below, but there’s no doubt in our minds at all: She loses.

It"s a question that has plagued mankind for years:
Is Fergie hot… or not?
The jury remains very much out on this topic, as folks around the Internet continue to debate the attractiveness of this long-time pop singer.
But now a new question regarding Fergie has gone viral, although it"s one that may have a more definitive answer:
Did Fergie just provide us with the worst rendition of the national anthem in U.S. history?
The artist took to center court in Los Angeles at the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, drawing attention before she even sang a note.
For what reason? Just look at the revealing ensemble Fergie decided to go with in order to honor her country.
This became even more notable once the national anthem got underway and it became clear that Fergie was intent on sexing up the famous single.
Big time.
"I’ve seen the national anthem performed hundreds of times but never in the key of “Happy Birthday Mr. President” congrats," wrote one Twitter user, commenting on the way in which Fergie seemed to be seducing the crowd.
Or attempting to, at least.
It was impossible not to notice that the players themselves were entertained (in a negative sense) by this performance, while also just being confused.
"Not sure what Fergie was going for on that national anthem performance but if it was “my friends drunk mom acting sexy” she nailed it," wrote another viewer on Twitter.
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green looked especially perplexed by whatever Fergie was trying to accomplish in front of him, as many on social media made a point to mention.

Fergie: I Hallucinated Crazy $hit While on Crystal Meth!
In promotion of her first solo album in 11 years, Fergie has opened up in a new interview about her past drug use.
And the artist has held absolutely nothing back.
“At my lowest point, I was [suffering from] chemically induced psychosis and dementia,” Fergie tells the United Kingdon’s iNews about her use of crystal meth.
This was back in the early 2000s, she says.
“I was hallucinating on a daily basis. It took a year after getting off that drug for the chemicals in my brain to settle so that I stopped seeing things.
“I’d just be sitting there, seeing a random bee or bunny.”
Wow. That’s pretty crazy and intense.
Fergie also says her weight plummeted to around 90 pounds during this time.
The artist’s hallucinations became so serious, Fergie says candidly, that she believed the CIA, FBI and a SWAT team were following her around.
She eventually sought solace in a church, the only place she felt safe and protected.
But then she had a breakthrough that probably saved her life.
“I remember thinking: ‘If I walk outside, and the SWAT team’s out there, I was right all along.
“But if they’re not out there, then it’s the drugs making me see things and I’m going to end up in an institution.
“And if it really is the drugs, I don’t want to live my life like this any more, anyway.’
“I walked out of the church; obviously there was no SWAT team, it was just me in a parking lot. It was a freeing moment.”
Fergie admits the drugs were “a hell of a lot of fun” for a period.
Until, of course, they weren’t.
“It’s so incredible, I know. I think I must have guardian angels,” the singer says of simply being alive.
Prior to this honest spilling of very personal details, Fergie made news in September for her separation from Josh Duhamel.
The stars had been married for eight years when they made this announcement and they share a four-year old son, Axl.
Early on in this interview, Fergie says she’s proud of Duhamel for directing a new movie and says the pair tries to FaceTime with their child as often as possible when on the road.
They are clearly on solid terms.
Says the singer of her estranged husband and their priorities:
“I’ve just released my first solo album in 11 years, and I’m out promoting it. So there’s a lot going on.
“That’s why we wanted to find our footing with our separation before we announced it publicly: to make sure we really got it together for our kid.
“It’s a constant juggling act.”
Considering where she’s been in the past, though, it’s something we have no doubt Fergie can figure out and make work.

Fergie and Josh Duhamel: The Marriage is Over!
Big girls may not cry, according to Fergie.
But the singer has just made an announcement that may leave her many fans in tears:
She and Josh Duhamel are separating after eight years of marriage.
“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” the couple said in a joint statement, released to People Magazine.
It continues as follow:
“To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public.
“We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
The actor and the artist who share a four-year-old son named Axl, having each talked openly in the past.
“I have no idea what I’m doing half the time,” Duhamel told Ellen DeGeneres in June, adding of his then-wife:
“She’s definitely more evolved than I am, and more patient.
“But I feel like I’m much more – you know, having a kid when I was 40 years old is much different than having one at 22, so I’m a little bit more mature than I was then.”
All seemed very well between the stars back in January when they celebrated their eight-year wedding anniversary.
You can only tell so much from a photograph, of course, but Duhamel shared the adorable snapshot below of himself, his wife and their son near the beach.
“8 years!! Love you babe,” he wrote as a caption.
Sharing her own photo of the couple in front of a gorgeous sunset, Fergie wrote on Instagram at the same time:
“happy 8th anniversary to my bae.”
What happened in the ensuring several months? We may never know.
There haven’t been any rumors of infidelity on either side, and it’s not as though either has seen his or her career suddenly take off, removing jealousy or scheduling issues from the question.
Perhaps they simply grew apart.
This does happen sometimes.
As recently as May, however, the actor opened up about his union and his wife to Haute Living, saying the duo share “a lot of love for our son and have a good time together.”
Oh well.
It sounds as if they’ll at least remain on good terms for the sake of their child.
In the meantime, a new set of lovely lady lumps are on the market!

Fergie: Kimye vs Taylor Swift Feud Is A Total Publicity Stunt!
She knows the game.
Fergie went on Australia’s Kyle & Jackie O radio show to promote her new single, “M.I.L.F. $ ,” and talk turned to this summer’s biggest feud.
“Knowing them, it’s probably a big master plan,” Fergie said of Kim Kardashian’s leak of conversations between Kanye West and Taylor Swift over his “Famous” lyrics.
“They’ll probably all come together at the MTV Awards [in late August] or something.”
Fergie does have a point, because this whole thing started in 2009 when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video.
On Sunday night, Kardashian leaked West’s phone call with Swift, in which the 1989 singer gave her approval of
For all my Southside n****s that know me best/ I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
What the audio didn’t reveal was Swift giving the OK to this line:
“Why? I made that bitch famous /God damn/ I made that bitch famous
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode that aired prior to the leak was centered around Kardashian’s fury that Swift claimed not to know the lyrics and was therefore offended.
“do u guys follow me on snap chat?” Kardashian tweeted. “u really should ;-)”
“Kim’s so cool. You’ve gotta respect her for sticking up for her husband,” Fergie said of Kardashian’s move.
Scenes from Kardashian’s guest role in M.I.L.F $ were also featured on the episode.
As for Fergie’s theory that the trio will take the stage holding hands and laugh mockingly at us, don’t hold your breath.
“They are sick of Taylor’s manipulations and her good-girl act,” sources told Us Weekly of Kimye’s thoughts on Swift.
“They just wanted to expose her as a fake.”
Will Kardashian and West come face-to-face with Swift at the VMAs? Will they reveal it was all a big joke? WILL THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH?
