Tyler Baltierra Claps Back at Haters: My Mental Health Doesn"t Make Me a Bad Parent!

Earlier this week, Teen Mom OG star Tyler Baltierra shared a poem about his heartbreaking suicide attempt. It must have taken a lot of courage for him to share such an intimate piece of self-expression.

Unfortunately, some people had the nerve to use this opportunity to suggest that he and Catelynn shouldn’t be allowed to be parents because of their mental health.

Tyler took to Twitter to clap back against this very dangerous line of thinking.

One Twitter user, an Instagram model whose claim to fame is having been on Bad Girls Club, decided to ask a not-so-innocent question about Tyler and Catelynn.

“Sad that him and his wife are struggling with depression and bi polar disorder,” Danielle says.

Unfortunately, she did not stop there.

Tyler and Catelynn have her sympathies, “but is that really a healthy environment for a child to grow up in?” she asks.

She also does that thing that some people do when they have a decent following on social media and would rather be able to say that they are “starting a conversation” than voicing an opinion.

“[I don’t know,] thoughts people?” she asks, as if her entire tweet were just an innocuous question about Catelynn’s hairstyle.

Tyler saw this and, very understandably, felt the need to speak out.

“So everyone who has a mental health issue shouldn’t be allowed to have children?” he tweeted.

You can really feel his righteous indignation.

Tyler continued, describing parenting as getting to “experience the most beautiful thing this life can give you.”

Not everyone will necessarily agree that parenting, with its many ups and downs, qualifies for that lofty superlative … but we’ll let it slide for the moment.

“It’s the same,” Tyler continues. “As telling someone who has diabetes or any manageable condition, that they shouldn’t have kids.”

Sadly, people have probably made arguments along those lines, too. No, wait, people have definitely made arguments along those lines. And it’s horrifying.

Tyler makes his feelings clear, writing: “I highly disagree with that!”

Tyler was not the only one who strenuously objects to the notion that people being treated for their mental health are disqualified from being parents.

One Twitter user replied to the original tweet: “Wow really?? I have anxiety and manic depression as well! I’ve raised two healthy sons to adulthood! Shame on you for that statement! I’ve had this since age 20! I’m 44 now!”

Yep!

“This is the problem with most people,” another person tweeted. “If they have never experienced it they can’t understand. I’m raising 3 children while I suffer from anxiety. I’m a GREAT mom and they are very well taken care of! I am on medication and I take care of myself so I can take care of them!”

Many mental illnesses are totally treatable. If you argue that someone’s depression makes them a bad parent, you sound like a sleezy divorce lawyer.

Another tweets: “Were you not just begging twitter to pay your rent a few months ago? Worry about yourself & not the mental health of others.. btw Tyler is a WONDERFUL dad.”

Wow. Somebody brought some reciepts to the roast.

Another wrote, more simply: “Just because they struggle doesn’t mean [they’re] bad parents.”

Others simply couldn’t believe this woman’s audacity to ask the question.

“Why in 2018 is mental health still being stigmatised?!” another tweeter asks. “Why should people feel ashamed for having an illness that is out with their control?! This needs to STOP!”

Another decided that Danielle needed a little more roasting.

This person tweeted: “At least their kids can look back and see that their parents had positive impact in life and on tv. What are your kids gna see when they google your name? Bad girls clubs clips bahaha now thats sad.”

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw shade.

Others, however, defended the question … sort of.

“I don’t think it’s a bad question,” another fan tweeted. “You have to truly understand that some are completely unaware of how it feels to live with a mental illness. Educate those whom do not understand.”

That’s a good point, honestly — sometimes, people have to ask questions to learn. Even if those questions have horrifying implications.

Speaking of horrifying thoughts, however, some people went above and beyond when agreeing with Danielle’s question.

One person tweeted: “Selective breeding, we do it with animals, why not humans…only way to stabilize society and weed out illness.”

Let’s just hope that this person is, like, 12 and still coming to grasp with right and wrong. Because, and I hate Nazi comparisons, but … that is one scary tweet.

Obviously, if someone is a bad parent, either abusive or neglectful or otherwise unable to give their child love and support, the child needs a better home where they can be safe and healthy.

But mental illness — in addition to being treatable — does not disqualify someone from being an amazing parent. It’s just a thing that they have to deal with.

In fact, that personal struggle can make them more empathetic to a child’s potential struggles.

In the mean time, the world has no shortage of truly awful parents who don’t have any mental illness. Being a terrible person is a character trait, not an ailment.

Good for Tyler for sticking up for himself, his wife, and for every other parent with mental health struggles.

Farrah Abraham Mom-Shames at Coachella: At Least I"M a Good Parent!

Look, everybody knows that Farrah Abraham is wild and wacky and all that. It’s not new information at this point, not by a long shot.

But still, sometimes the things that come out of her mouth are just so insane that you can’t help but stop and appreciate it.

Like, how is it even possible for her to be as delusional as she is sometimes?

Does she just lack all self-awareness? Is she perpetually confused? Is there some Farrah who is capable of acting like a normal human being in an alternate universe and we accidentally got this one?

It’s hard to understand how Farrah is so Farrah-like, but here we are.

And man, this nonsense she’s spouting now is something else …

See, Farrah and her poor daughter Sophia are out in Palm Springs right now for Coachella.

Over the weekend, Farrah shared some photos of herself at the festival, promoting different products like her life depended on it — though now that she’s done with Teen Mom, her livelihood almost definitely depends on it.

In one of the photos, she and Sophia posed with some products at Sephora, apparently leading some people to wonder if that dynamic mother-daughter duo would be doing Coachella together.

But Farrah needs you to know that that is not the case.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Farrah said that Sophia is “just so fun!”, and that “we have henna, we have braids, it’s like a girl party everyday.”

“I mean, these are the moments right now that I love. I couldn’t trade it for anything else.”

That’s pretty sweet, right?

But since the interview was actually done at Coachella, she felt the need to add that Sophia was in bed, not in attendance.

“I just have to say,” she told the magazine, “I’m sorry, the inner-mom and the critical parent in me is like, I’m at the Coachella festival and I have to say, when I see a newborn, I honestly don’t think it’s a safe place for children.”

“That’s why my daughter’s at a resort, enjoying the pools and the country club with a nanny.”

She explained that the area is “so serene and beautiful,” but “I don’t think that Coachella, with drugs and psychedelic sh-t, is safe for a kid to be around.”

“I kind of question when I was reading on my way here, I was reading that some parents are saying, ‘Yeah, bring your kids! It’s fun for the kids."”

Just so she’s perfectly clear, she added “I honestly don’t think it’s safe for kids, so I have to disagree.”

So this is Farrah Abraham discussing what is and is not a safe, healthy environment for children.

Farrah Abraham.

On Teen Mom, Farrah often left baby Sophia unattended in dangerous situations — around stairs without gates, for instance.

She left Sophia on her bed as an infant (she fell off), and she also left her in the kitchen sink during a bath (she turned on the hot water and burned herself).

She waxed her eyebrows when she was a toddler, and she once said that it was healthy for them to spend time apart at that age so they could each do their own thing.

She let Sophia around her own mother, Debra Danielsen, when she sobbed and threatened to kill herself.

She’s said that Debra was abusive, but she’s left Sophia with her for weeks at a time.

Just last week, she brought her along when she got butt injections, and she even got her to film the occasion.

This is just a very, very short list of things that Farrah has done, but sure, bringing a kid to Coachella is the worst thing you could do as a parent, and she’s totally fit to criticize you for it.

Chelsea Houska: Here"s How I"m Failing as a Parent!

There are some Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 stars who can’t help but rub you the wrong way.

But you know what? Chelsea Houska can be kind of charming.

Even when she’s talking about her screw-ups as a parent.

You can blog basically any part of your life.

A lot of people liveblog political events, TV shows, or conversations they overhear in restaurants.

A lot of parents blog about being parents, though some, like that Daddy Blogger who leashes his daughter, probably shouldn’t.

But we don’t mind it so much when their “parenting fails” are more run-of-the-mill, you know?

Reality personality and noted baby fever experiencer Chelsea Houska has been taking to Twitter to share some of her mistakes.

Her most recent “parenting fail” that she’s shared on Twitter is mostly just about a … let’s call it a “chemical interaction.”

No, not the dangerous kind.

Just messy.

“Fresh spray tan + drooling baby = disaster”

Babies are so adorable, but they sure do produce a lot of what we’ll tastefully refer to as “substances.”

Honestly, drool is the least offensive of those.

Honestly, that’s a tip to young moms. You might know to not go out in the rain with fresh spray tan, but you might not think fo the effect that your baby could have.

Just a few weeks earlier, she’d shared another of her “parenting fails,” though this time she wasn’t the one most impacted.

“Starting this morning off with a mom fail. Totally slept through my alarm and Aubree is late for school. Is it summer vacation yet?!”

First of all, sleeping through your alarm is the most normal thing in the world.

It sucks when you’re a student, it’s worse when it makes you late for work, but it’s extra bad when you’re a parent letting down your kid.

Anybody can sleep through an alarm, and if it’s the parent’s fault that the kid’s late, your kid really doesn’t have anything to worry about unless it’s happening all of the time.

It’s worth noting that they make all sorts of creative alarms now that make oversleeping next to impossible. Like, mats that let out wailing noises until you stand on them with both feet.

It’s a little extra, as the youths say, but it could be worth it if it’s a recurring problem.

There’s a popular Tumblr post in which the blogger muses about why there’s no show call “Teen Dad” or “16 & Got A Girl Pregnant.”

The blogger then concludes that a show about a teenage boy sitting around playing video games and hanging out with his friends wouldn’t really hook viewers.

It’s the sad reality that childcare is too often left to women, even when they themselves aren’t yet adults.

It’s even sadder when you realize that so many teenage mothers are impregnated by not-so-teen fathers.

Gross.

So it’s probably nice for pregnant teens to see that someone who was once in their situation is now leading a “normal” life.

Lyle Menendez: 9 Things We Learned About the Parent Killer

On August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez shot their parents in their bedroom, firing away at Mom and Dad with shotguns they purchased just days prior to the killings.

In court, they admitted to the crime and claimed that their father had abused them for years, arguing for self-defense.

The siblings were convicted and are serving consecutive life terms in prison.

On Thursday night, however, ABC aired a two-hour special titled "Truth And Lies: The Menendez Brothers."

It featured an interview with Lyle (from Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California) and the following revelations about the brothers; their grisly crime; and what life has been like for them ever since.

Here is what we learned:

1. Prior to the Murders…

Lyle menendez

Lyle and Erik committed many home robberies when they lived in Calabasas. According to ex-family frind Karen Ferrell, who was interview for the special, the teenagers “were bored.… Robbing houses was a challenge.… They didn’t think they’d be caught.”

2. After the Murder…

After the murder

A jury believed that the brothers showed no remorse for the actions, one of the main reasons they were convicted. Five weeks after the murder, Erik and Lyle received $ 400,000 in life insurance money and used it to go on a spending spree. ABC journalist Terry Morgan recalled: They were having a grand ole time spending the money of a dead man.” They purchased Rolexes and a Porsche, among other items.

3. Lyle Felt Pressure from His Dad

Lyle felt pressure from his dad

Jose Menendez was a successful businessman, and his influence and attitude affected his kids: “My father was like a force of nature and you look up to that,” Lyle told ABC. “You are expected to be competitive to a fault. He began to sort of try to groom me to be hypercompetitive and succeed.”

4. He’s Not in Denial About What Happened, But…

Hes not in denial about what happened but

“I’m a more fully formed adult now. Of course looking back it’s shocking to think about that that happened. That I could have been involved in taking anyone’s life and my parents’ life… It seems unimaginable because it seems so far removed from who I am and who I was.”

5. How Was This an Act of Self-Defense?

How was this an act of self defense

Lyle and Erik shot their defenseless parents in their bedroom, yet said in court they acted in self-defense. We learned in the documentary that Lyle said back at the time: “I thought they were going ahead with their plan to kill us.” (The jury did not believe this line of defense, of course.)

6. What is the Relationship Between the Brothers Now?

What is the relationship between the brothers now

They have not seen each other since 1996. They keep in touch via letters and even play chess, one move at a time, through the mail.

Leah Messer: Bad Parent, or Victim of Bad Editing?

The embattled Leah Messer of MTV"s Teen Mom 2 has been through the wringer, accused of every bad parenting move under the sun.

All of which she has made amazing excuses for.

If you watch Teen Mom 2 online, you"ve seen one troublesome incident after another involving Leah and her two concerned former spouses.

The twice divorced mother of three makes no apologies for any of the strange behavior and controversial parenting moves she"s exhibited.

Only the (dubious) explanations which we"ve documented below … and clearly have not succeeded in convincing fans, exes, or courts.

Leah lost custody to Corey Simms after a protracted battle, and while she later regained joint custody, she remains on shaky ground.

There"s also the whole Leah-T.R. Dues situation, which we don"t know what to make of these days (or any days), but gives us pause:

Is another live-in lover really what she needs?

We wish her the best, but we fear the worst, at least until she can be honest with herself and others and put her best foot forward in life.

With the new season underway, Leah"s struggles are once again under scrutiny, and her decision making skills under the MTV microscope.

She claims she"s a victim of bad editing on behalf of producers – even Corey had her back on one occasion recently – but is that fair?

Can she really explain away ALL of these things? Isn"t a pattern like this impossible to ignore? Either way, we just hope she fights through it.

Just be strong, girl. You can do it. #believe

1. Tanning Salon Mumbling

Leah messer on teen mom 2 pic

Messer shocked fans by looking like she was on the verge of passing out and mumbling incoherently while working at a tanning salon on Teen Mom 2. She did admit she was on anxiety medication, but said the side effects made her stop right away. This was over a year ago now …

2. Illegal Business Dealings … Er, Setbacks

Leah is crushed

Under investigation by the West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists for running an illegal salon, Leah and her partners Leslee Pannell and Crystal Spinks shuttered their operation, defiantly stating: “We will protect our reputation and ourselves. This is a future career we believe in. Success doesn’t come without set backs and haters. We aren’t afraid of either.” They said “there is zero truth” to reports about an investigation … but that the salon is indeed “on hold.”

3. Stealing From Ali?!

Leah messer cries in the car

After reports surfaced claiming that Messer stole $ 50,000 from her daughter Ali’s trust fund (allegedly to fund her addictions), she sought to clear her name. “My girls still have they’re [sic] money,” Leah tweeted. “It’s just not at the bank your [sic] looking at.” Transferring the funds to a different bank without telling anyone is entirely plausible, yet she did not provide any evidence that she had done so, or explain why she would have to.

4. TMI For Toddlers

Leah Messer was criticized for her daughters’ racy dance attire in this photo. She defended the move, saying trolls online are out to get her.

5. Kiss Off, Haters!

Leah messer and jeremy calvert kiss

Leah shot down divorce rumors involving herself and her tumultuous marriage to Jeremy Calvert last year … sealing her Twitter kiss-off to the haters with this pic. Shortly thereafter, they actually did get divorced.

6. I Know There’s a Drug Problem.

Teen mom 2 season premiere

Corey told Leah asked Leah straight up if she’s on drugs in the Season 6 premiere. “I swear to God there’s not,” she said, when confronted on her alleged problem. Future events have not bolstered her argument.

Jenelle Evans Custody Battle: Nathan"s on Steroids and Can"t Parent!

Earlier this week, Nathan Griffith filed a motion with the courts for full custody of the one-year-old son, Kaiser, he shares with Jenelle Evans.

In the court docs, he accused the Teen Mom 2 star of being an unfit mother for numerous reasons, including a pending assault charge, drug use and cohabitation with David Eason, an alleged domestic abuser.

But now we’ve learned that Jenelle started the court process of suing for full custody two weeks ago, according to Radar Online.

In her suit, Jenelle claims that her ex “is not a fit and proper person to have custody,” citing – surprise-surprise! – a number of unsavory allegations against him.

Jenelle asserts that Nathan doesn’t have “proper living arrangements” (he’s getting evicted) and has a history of multiple arrests (just like Jenelle!), including domestic violence (against Jenelle, charges dropped) and misdemeanor larceny (for stealing Jenelle’s stuff).

While Nathan called out his baby mama for use of illegal substances, Jenelle is throwing it right back.

Her documents state that “upon reason and belief, Defendant [Griffith] is abusing illegal substances including steroids.”

Well, let’s see. Do you think Nathan’s on steroids?

It’s a shame he can’t be sued for having a bad spray tan and an even worse man bun.

We’ve heard reports that Nathan has been hanging out with fellow Teen Mom douche and ‘roid bro Adam Lind, which sounds like a perfect pairing since they are “both gym junkies who only care about themselves” (according to a source).

Jenelle is seeking permanent primary custody and an “expedited hearing establishing temporary custody [to her] to stabilize the environment and to avoid emotional trauma resulting from the continued conflict between the parties.”

The former fiances will battle it out in court on Monday, and whatever the courts decide, it sounds like, sadly, the biggest loser in this mess will be little Kaiser.
