Duggar Family Blasted by Fans for Promoting Deadly Parenting Practices

Brace yourselves, folks. This is an upsetting story. Even in the context of the Duggar family.

Jim Bob and Michelle are promoting an ideology even more controversial than their own strict religious beliefs.

And fans are putting the Duggar family on blast.

The Duggars have been plugging an upcoming Marriage Retreat on social media.

“There is still time to register for this amazing marriage retreat! You will not regret it!”

The retreat is to take place as the Forsyth family’s Fort Rock. The problem is that this even will host Michael Pearl and Debi Pearl, authors of the deeply controversial book, To Train Up Your Child.

The book promotes forcing children to eat their least favorite foods until they “like” them, but also depriving your children of food as punishment.

Most significantly, the book encourages parents to hit their children with various objects, including plastic lengths of pipe. This abusive “training” is supposed to begin in infancy.

The methods described are a recipe for breaking a child and doing psychological damage that will last for a person’s entire life.

Except for those victims who die before they even reach adulthood.

As you can imagine, fans were horrified that the Duggars would condone such egregious child-abuse.

Fans on Facebook who are aware of the Pearls and the infamous “methods” that they promote felt crushed and heartbroken when they saw the announcement.

“This makes me so sad,” one wrote. “The Pearls literally promote hitting babies, actual babies.”

That is true. Among other things, the Pearls recommend the cruel “blanket training” that the Duggars practiced with some of their babies.

“They are child abusers. Why you would promote their evil and cruel practices is mind-boggling.”

Another disappointed Duggar fan commented, writing:

“Ahh yes, Fort Rock. Host and supporters of blatant child abusers.”

It’s difficult to argue with these commenters, even if you wanted to.

The “training” that the Pearls espouse to their followers involves using violence and fear to force children into submission.

And yes, it does begin when children are still babies.

The older that the child becomes, the harsher the physical punishments they recommend. Their pernicious book even suggests that parents might wear an object on their person as a constant reminder of the implied threat.

In recent years, police have linked three separate deaths of children to the Pearls, their book, and their ideology.

In each case, the abusive parents were convicted.

And that, of course, barely scratches the surface on the lifelong psychological damage that years of child abuse can inflict.

This isn’t the only time that the Duggars have been linked to abuse, and we don’t just mean hitting their own children or covering things up after Josh molested his sisters.

Member of the Duggar family’s church have shared shocking tales of abuse.

One survivor from the Duggar family church recently revealed that her father molested her as a child, and that the sexual abuse only stopped when he died.

That should have been the end of her suffering, but it was only part of her story.

Naturally, she suffered PTSD symptoms such as depression. Worse, in the eyes of her church and of her religiously devoted mother, she questioned her family’s beliefs.

She says that the church sent her to a “camp” where she was threatened, terrorized, and tortured for months in an effort to force her to fall into line with the church’s beliefs.

Unfortunately, it isn’t a surprise that the Duggars are promoting extreme ideology. Even though the Pearls recommend violence against children, that’s not a foreign concept to the Duggars.

Michelle has used a ruler to punish her very young children. Both producers and at least one of the Duggar children have mentioned that Jim Bob and Michelle keep a rod with which to hit their children.

There are heartbreaking, evil stories behind so many people’s broken childhoods.

The saddest thing of all of this might be that some people who come from these horrible backgrounds go on to repeat this cycle of violence with their own children.

Austin Forsyth and Joy-Anna Duggar: Stirring Up Controversy by Promoting a Men"s Only Camping Retreat!

Austin Forsyth and Joy-Anna Duggar recently celebrated their one year anniversary. Not their wedding anniversary — they got married in May — but of when they became an item.

Even such a short ways into their relationship, it seems that Austin and Joy-Anna don’t mind spending some time apart. And the context for that is bound to be controversial.

You know how fans have been asking the extended Duggar family to try to keep a lid on their politics? Well … those fans should brace themselves for disappointment.

Austin Forsyth is 23 and Joy-Anna Duggar is 19.

These two are one of the younger Duggar pairs, but they’re clearly making up for lost time.

Following a lifelong friendship, their courtship began with Austin sending Joy-Anna flowers.

The couple got to graduate from side-hugs last May, when they finally got married.

And Joy-Anna is already pregnant.

They got married pretty quickly, even by Duggar standards.

In fact, the size of Joy-Anna’s baby bump is fueling rumors that this wedding might have been rushed after some hypothetical rule-breaking led to a premarital pregnancy.

You know, making it one of those “shotgun weddings.”

Even if that’s true, we doubt that the Duggars would ever let it be publicly confirmed that Joy-Anna got pregnant out of wedlock, if that’s what really happened.

Jim Bob is, in his own twisted way, very concerned with the family’s public image.

Even with the questions lingering of whether or not they had some “secret front hugs” of the pregnancy-inducing kind before getting married …

(A thing scandalous only in the world of the Duggars, where Joy-Anna effectively remained Jim Bob’s property until getting married)

… These two have seemed to go out of their way to show that their politics are heavily on the conservative side.

That’s not a surprise, exactly, considering that they’re Duggars.

But even in a family where Joy-Anna’s brother-in-law, Derick Dillard, keeps condemning trans teenager Jazz Jennings, it seems like Austin and Joy-Anna are racing to prove that they’re the most staunchly conservative in the bunch.

(Maybe it’s sincere, maybe they’re trying to compensate for a premarital indiscretion … we just don’t know)

Fans have implored the couple to keep that to themselves. A lot of people who don’t agree with the Duggars watch to keep up with … well, with the Duggar girls, mostly.

But it seems like Austin and Joy-Anna just can’t help themselves.

On the couple’s shared Instagram account (don’t get us started on shared social media accounts between spouses; it’s weird), they posted a promotion for the conservative and controversial Fort Rock Family Camp.

“Fort Rock Family Camp hasits last Family Camp for the season coming up on October 6-8, 2017. Check out our website at fortrock.org @fortrockfamilycamp”

Just a few weeks after the end of their honeymoon, at a time when most newlyweds are still in, well, the honeymoon phase and cannot bear to be apart …

(This is usually even more the case for couples who have abstained from sex before marriage)

… Austin attended an all-male retreat at Fort Rock Family Camp.

Along with Jim Bob Duggar and Austin’s new brothers-in-law, Austin seemed to embrace a lot of culturally conservative traditionally masculine activities.

Disturbingly, the motif of the retreat was “Battle Ready.” The all-male guests threw hatchets and fired rifles and shotguns.

Sort of strange for a retreat that’s supposed to encourage men to become spiritual leaders to feature so many weapons and to focus so much upon violence — even if no one was getting hurt.

And then there’s the weird gender segregation involved.

Fans noted in the comments that women might have enjoyed some of those activities, too.

“Bet the girls would love [things] like that too,” one fan commented. “Hope they boys had a precious bonding together.”

Though Austin and Joy-Anna are featured on the Fort Rock Family Camp website, it’s always possible that this isn’t exactly Austin’s idea of a good time.

After all, Austin has only just married into the Duggar family. Maybe he’s just going the extra mile to bond with his in-laws.

Still, a lot of fans of Counting On continue to find the Duggar family gender roles to be unsettling.

Many enjoy seeing the girls break free of those restrictions as they get married.

Rose McGowan SLAMS X-Men Billboard for Promoting Violence Against Women

A billboard for X-Men: Apocalypse is causing a major stir among critics, the most vocal of which is Rose McGowan.

The controversial billboard depicts Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse choking Jennifer Lawrence’s character Mystique in the movie.

While the X-Men films all contain plenty of destruction, citizens say this image, seen out of context, promotes violence against women.

In a Facebook post to The Hollywood Reporter, McGowan speaks out against the ad and the subtle yet powerful message it implies.

“There is a major problem when the men and women at 20th Century Fox think casual violence against women is the way to market a film,” she wrote.

“There is no context in the ad, just a woman getting strangled,” the actress continued. “The fact that no one flagged this is offensive and frankly, stupid.”

“The geniuses behind this, and I use that term lightly, need to to take a long hard look at the mirror and see how they are contributing to society.”

McGowan then compares the sexist poster to other forms of bigotry, like racism and homophobia – and she has a point.

“Imagine if it were a black man being strangled by a white man, or a gay male being strangled by a hetero?” she ask. “The outcry would be enormous.”

Although the premise of the comic book franchise is all about bad guys fighting good guys – and, ahem, gals – the isolated image of a man strangling a woman can be viewed as disturbing, especially if seen by children.

The actress shared a conversation a friend had with his 9-year-old daughter about the billboard.

“I’ll close with a text my friend sent, a conversation with his daughter. It follows: ‘My daughter and I were just having a deep discussion on the brutality of that hideous X-Men poster yesterday,"” she shared.

“‘Her words: ‘Dad, why is that monster man committing violence against a woman?’ This from a 9-year-old. If she can see it, why can’t Fox?”

Not an encouraging image for a little girl to see.

McGowan asked the studio to get rid of the billboard to avoid any potential further damage.

“So let’s right this wrong. 20th Century Fox, since you can’t manage to put any women directors on your slate for the next two years, how about you at least replace your ad?”

McGowan has not been shy about coming out against Hollywood sexism and misogyny.

Last year, she blasted Adam Sandler for including sexist requests on a casting call notice she received for one of his movies.

Ariel Winter Praises Kim Kardashian for "Promoting Body Positivity"

Ariel Winter has a very different opinion of Kim Kardashian than we do.

The Modern Family star was one of the few public voices in support of Kardashian last month after Kim posed naked once again on Instagram and she even gave a shout-out to Kardashian upon recently posing in her bikini.

Now, while most continue to slam Kardashian for talking at length about her need to lose weight, Winter has chimed in with her opposing view.

“I think she’s promoting body positivity,” the actress said on the Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O Wednesday.

Why does the 18-year old see it this way?

“You know, young girls being able to express that they don’t have a stick-thin body – they’re curvy,” Winter explained.

“And stick-thin bodies are amazing… those girls are amazing too … but I think that everybody’s body would be celebrated no matter what it is and I think that it’s great that she’s so comfortable with herself and that she’s able to post out there what she wants to post and if she wants to post a nude selfie, she can.”

She definitely can, that much we know.

And we’d totally agree with Winter’s assessment, if only Kim didn’t go to every length possible to lose weight and talk about how she needs to lose weight. ASAP!

Kardashian had a chance to be a role model for curvy young women everywhere.

But she most definitely blew it as soon as she started waist training.

As for why Winter stood up for Kardashian during her latest naked picture scandal?

“The whole thing that I don’t understand with the stigma these days is there are so many guys that go out there that are so cool with posing nude and doing all these things and they post about it…

“… And then when women do it, we’re really crucified.

“We’re not able to do the exact same thing and I think it’s really upsetting to be in an industry where that’s happening, so I really decided to stand up for her because I thought it was so ridiculous.”

There’s probably some double standard at work here, yes.

But most critics take issue with Kim Kardashian because posing naked (or starring in sex tapes) is the only card she has to play in order to remain relevant. She has no actual talent.

Find us the male equivalent of Kardashian, track down the guy who is only famous because he bares his body on social media, and then we’ll consider this point more.
