Jessa Duggar Posts Adorable, Hilarious Video of Baby Spurgeon

In November of 2015, Jessa Duggar gave birth to her first child, and she hasn’t exactly been lying low in the months since.

But for all the exposure that accompanied her family’s controversial return to the spotlight, Jessa’s been pretty cool about not bombarding her social media followers with constant baby pics.

Don’t get us wrong; she’s clearly proud of little Spurgeon, but you probably have a new mom in your own Facebook feed who posts more frequent infant-grams than Jessa.

The nice thing about her old-school approach to documenting Spurge’s childhood is that when Jessa does post something it feels more like a special occasion.

So without further ado, we present to you – Baby Spurgeon Tasting His Teddy Bear and Deciding It’s Not as Delicious As It Looks:

“‘That didn’t taste as good as I thought it would."” #SpurgeonElliotSeewald,” Jessa captioned the above photo.

Sure, the kid’s got his own hashtag, but what baby doesn’t these days?

Spurgeon’s over six months now, and though she’s changed her last name, his mama is still a Duggar.

Naturally, that means fans are beginning to wonder when a little brother or sister will be joining the lad.

The speculation over Jessa’s next pregnancy became more intense last month when she and older sister Jill Duggar revealed that they’re planning to get pregnant at the same time.

As far as we can tell, Jill is already pregnant with baby number two, which means Jessa better get a move on.

Enjoy being the center of attention while you can, lil Spurge!

Jessa Duggar: My Mom"s Not Raising Spurgeon, I Am!

It’s only been six months since Jessa Duggar gave birth to her first son, but the 23-year-old mother of one already sounds like a seasoned veteran when she discusses her plans for little Spurgeon’s upbringing.

“Spurgeon is still pretty young, but I’m sure that as he continues to grow, I will find that I tend to do some things differently than my mom did,” Jessa tells Us magazine.

“That’s the beauty of the individual family. No one is identical.”

Since her mom is famous for no other reason than the fact that she raised a veritable army of kids, it’s a bit surprising to hear Jessa say she plans to go against Michelle’s teachings in any way.

Even more surprising is the fact that according to Jessa, mom is no meddler:

“Every time I come to my mom for advice, she always reminds me that I’ve got this,” Jessa says.

“There’s no pressure to do things just exactly how she did them, but I’m so grateful for all her advice and help..

“Even when I feel overwhelmed, she’s always there to encourage me and tell me, ‘You’re doing a great job!’ That gives me the courage to trust my instincts and do what I feel is best for my baby.”

Of course, Michelle and Jim Bob may have lost some of their Parents of the Year cred in the wake of the Josh Duggar sex scandals.

The problem isn’t so much that they raised a deviant, as it is that they covered up Josh’s crimes and allowed his behavior continue unchecked.

We doubt that Jessa intended to throw shade with her remarks, but it’s hard to imagine Josh never crossed her mind when she stated her intention to live her life differently.

Whatever the case, the Seewalds are clearly committed to parenting in their own style.

After all, it doesn’t get any more “different” than naming your kid Spurgeon.

Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Meet Baby Spurgeon in New Counting On Preview!

It’s been six months since Jessa Duggar gave birth to her first son, the uniquely-named Spurgeon Seewald.

At the time, Jessa’s beloved sister Jill Duggar was performing missionary work in Central America with her husband and child.

Fortunately, TLC cameras were on hand to capture the moment when the Seewalds took a trip south of the border, and Jill and Derick Dillard finally got to meet their well-traveled new nephew.

“We had seen Spurgeon on video conference, but this is the first time we got to meet him,” Derick tells the camera at one point.

“I got to pick him up. He’s a solid guy, and he’s just really a chill baby, and he seems like a happy baby. Just a special time to get to hold him.”

Chill, indeed!

In fact, Jessa says lil Spurge is so laid-back he handled his first flight better than a traveling salesman who spent his entire layover at the airport bar.

“He did pretty good — he slept on both flights the majority of the time,” she says. “He was awake for just a little bit.”

“He just sleeps whenever. He doesn’t have a whole on his agenda for the day usually,” Ben adds awkwardly. “Just like, eat, sleep…”

“The drive to meet Jill and Izzy seemed really long,” Jessa ovserves, basically saying what we were all thinking about the cringe-worthy in-law small talk.

Of course, it’s not the conversation in this clip that’ll have Duggar obsessives talking.

Rather, it’s Derick Dillard’s gaunt appearance – already a frequent source of controversy in recent months – that’s likely to gain the most attention.

Maybe Der’s just dieting. Maybe the spicy Central American cuisine doesn’t agree with him. Maybe belonging to the same family as Josh Duggar is slowly sucking his soul from his body.

We may never know.

What we do know, however, is that you can watch Jill and Jessa: Counting On online at TV Fanatic to get caught up in time for tonight’s reunion episode.

Jessa Duggar Posts First Video of Baby Spurgeon!

Last week, Jessa Duggar celebrated baby Spurgeon"s 4-month birthday by posting some new photos of the adorable, yet oddly-named little tyke.

Today, she"s giving fans one of their first glimpses of the little guy in action.

Jessa shared a video of Spurgeon on Instagram this afternoon. She captioned the cute cooing clip, "Showing off all his new vocabulary skills."

Like we said, the kid is adorable. Unfortunately, there"s a good chance he"ll spend the rest of his life with a camera in his face.

We don"t just mean Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, will continue to share pics and videos of the little guy on social media.

We mean the kid might grow up with TLC camera crews as a constant presence in his home.

The Duggars will return to TV next week with the premiere of the first full season of Jill & Jessa: Counting On.

Considering not one of the grown up Duggar kids or their significant others got real jobs in the nearly eight months since 19 Kids and Counting was canceled, you can bet they won"t be giving up their gigs as reality stars anytime soon.

That"s all well and good, but the downside is, the younger generation will have no choice but to grow up in the public eye.

Here"s hoping you like fame, kid!

Spurgeon Seewald: Jessa Duggar Shares Adorable New Photos!

There’s no getting around it: 2015 was a rough year for the Duggar family.

But there were definitely some bright spots amidst all the darkness. One of them was Jessa Duggar welcoming her first child – the unusually-named, but undeniably cute, Spurgeon Seewald:

Jessa shared the above photos of Spurgeon today, and it looks like the kid is making a serious bid for the title of cutest Duggar baby, which is no small feat in a family that births a small army every year.

As for why Jessa has shared so few photos – it seems the new mom has ample reason to be very careful in the pics that she choses to post online.

Aside from a few photos of Spurgeon’s first Christmas, we really haven’t seen too much of the tyke, and it could have something to do with the Duggars’ efforts to rebuild their reputation, and the amount of flak they’ve been taking online lately.

In case you missed it, Jill Duggar posted photos of baby Israel Dillard’s Christmas and was heavily criticized for a non-baby-proofed electrical outlet that could be seen in the background.

Clearly, the Duggars have a long way to go in terms of rebuilding their reputation.

Hopefully, everyone can look at these pics and at least agree that little Spurgeon is a darn cute baby.

Spurgeon Spooner"s First Christmas: See The Photos!

Christmas is the time for onesies, whether you’re an infant or an adult.

Jessa and Ben Seewald dressed up their son (born November 5th) in green and red for the holidays, and shared a photo on Instagram.

“Merry Christmas, ya’ll!” Jess wrote.

A few days laters, the infant wore a outfit gifted from a family member.

Jessa’s labor aired on the final installment of Jill & Jessa: Counting on, as did her suggestion of eventually adopting a child.

When Ben suggested “15 sons,” Jessa later agreed with her husband.

“I think it’d be awesome,” she said in an interview.  “I’d love to have 15 sons.”

During her home child birth, Jessa was making no bones about getting Spurgeon out.

“If you’re going to try to have a baby, just do it. I mean, don’t mosey on down the trail at a snail’s pace,” she said. “Power walk it – walk the baby out.”

Some complications arose after Jessa started gushing blood and had to be rushed to the hospital; Spurgeon was already born at this point.

I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that,” Jessa told People Magazine at the time.

“And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock.”

Spurgeon Seewald: Jessa Duggar Shares New Photo of Baby Boy!

As we learned yesterday, Jessa Duggar has named her firstborn son Spurgeon Elliot Seewald.

The name has drawn a fair amount of criticism, but everyone agrees that the baby himself is cute as can be.

“Can’t believe my baby boy is already one week old!” Jessa captioned the above photo on Instagram last night. “So grateful to God for this precious little gift. #BabyQuincy #SpurgeonEliotSeewald.”

Yes, it seems Jessa and Ben will be referring to lil Spurge as Quincy in his day-to-day life.

We’d ask why they didn’t just name the kid Quincy, but the Internet has already given the Seewalds enough of a hard time over their unusual choice of name.

Jessa and Ben explained the name Spurgeon in a YouTube video, and it seems the odd moniker is inspired by a 19th Century preacher named Charles Spurgeon.

So why didn’t they just name the lad Charles? We may never know, but we promise at some point we’ll stop fixating on this kid’s bizarre name.

It won’t be easy, but instead we’ll focus on the fact that he’s one adorable tyke.

Which is great, but he’ll need to be the cutest kid in class to distract people from the fact that his name is Spurgeon. Sorry. We tried.

Spurgeon Seewald: Fans React to Jessa Duggar"s Baby Name

By now, you’ve probably heard that Jessa Duggar has named her firstborn son Spurgeon Seewald.

Needless to say, the name is a bit odd, even by the standards of the Duggar family, which previously gave us such gems as Joy-Anna (not to be confused with her sister Johannah), Jinger, and Josh.

(Okay, “Josh” isn’t a weird name, but Josh Duggar is a total freakshow.)

Anyway, Jessa and husband Ben Seewald have explained why they chose the name Spurgeon, but some fans are still feeling mighty confused – and some of them are oddly pissed off.

So here are some of the most memorable comments from around the web. Feel free to offer your own thoughts on the name, just remember that while his parents are fair game, it’s not cool to poke fun at an infant.

Sadly, he’ll probably experience enough of that years from now.

(Once his high school classmates realize he comes from a famously chaste family, you know “Spurgeon the Virgin” will haunt him until his wedding day.)

Anyway, take it away, Internet jerks:

  • “Good thing they homeschool cause that poor child. His nickname would be sperm germ or some psycho sh-t the kids these days come up with.”

  • “Sounds like the name of a sea vegetable. Poor kid, he’s gonna be bullied.”

  • “Good God. I’m starting to think these people pick ugly names for their kids to get attention. First Israel and now this. That poor child!!”

  • “So sad, poor kid. Spurgeon Seewald, sounds like the name of Spongebob’s cousin!”

  • Congratulations to the Seewald family! That being said, please do not use the nickname “Spurge”. Spurge is dirty slang for the male ejaculation (akin to splooge). Not trying to leave filth on this very clean page, but it does seem this particular audience would be in ignorance of that fact.

That last comment resulted in an interesting conversation about which terms for male ejaculate are considered socially appropriate.

Sigh. Good luck, kid. We’re just gonna call you Elliot, okay?
