Caitlyn Jenner Named Most Fascinating Person of 2015

According to Barbara Walters, Caitlyn Jenner is not just a tad intriguing.

Oh, no. Not at all. She is THE most fascinating person on the planet.

Referred to on the veteran reporter’s annual 10 Most Fascinating People as a “symbol of hope for the transgender community,” the 66-year-old reality star was not actually interviewed by Walters.

This is likely because Caitlyn has an exclusive deal in place with Diane Sawyer.

But Walters did had nothing but praise for Jenner, whose journey from man to woman likely has been the most unbelievable celebrity news story of 2015.

“Our choice for the most fascinating person of the year was once called the world’s greatest athlete,” Walters said on air.

“Traditionally that title was given to the man who won the Olympic decathlon. When Bruce Jenner won it in 1976, it was a huge accomplishment that had everybody talking. But it was nothing like this.

“When Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner, there was a seismic shift in the gender universe.”

Caitlyin, of course, tracked her journey with television specials and with I Am Cait on E!, the latter of which will return for Season 2 this spring.

However, it was during a 20/20 interview with Sawyer in April that she revealed her transition from male to female.

Then in June, the stepfather to Kim Kardashian and company made her debut on the June cover of Vanity Fair.

Her “celebrity has helped launch a national discussion about transgender rights,” explained Walters with video highlights from Caitlyn’s year.

“She has become a champion for the transgender community, raising awareness and advocating for acceptance.”

Caitlyn sits atop a Fascinating Top 10 that also includes

  • Amy Schumer

  • Misty Copeland

  • Bradley Cooper

  • Donald Trump

  • Bernie Sanders

  • Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos

  • Ronda Rousey

  • Donna Karan

  • Tracy Morgan
