Clay Aiken: Whoops, Looks Like I Was Wrong About Trump ...

This week, Trump gave what might be his worse press conference in the history of his administration. While we have every confidence that he can and well do an even worse one, leaping to the defense of Nazis in Charlottesville is pretty bad. Even for him.

We don’t think that the majority of his supporters care. Maybe they’re just so full of spite that they want to see Trump cut off America’s nose to spite Obama’s face, or maybe they really don’t know any better.

For some who’d defended Trump in the past, though, this week was the final straw. One of those defenders was Clay Aiken:

You know how some of the only people still defending Bill Cosby are people who’ve known and personally worked with him and can’t imagine him being the sort of predatory monster that dozens and dozens and dozens of witnesses have described?

Well, it’s not uncommon for people to have trouble reconciling what they’ve heard or even know about someone with a person who’s met them and, personally, been nice to them.

Whether it’s your friend’s parents who are always super nice to you but you know that they’re awful behind closed doors or a friend who’s super nice to you but has been beyond shady with other people, we don’t always see people for who they are.

We don’t always want to see people for who they are.

That’s why celebrities who’ve known Trump, stars like Clay Aiken and even the beautiful and talented Paris Hilton, have defended him.

It’s not that they voted for him or defended his atrocious political views or even his many failed businesses.

They just can’t wrap their head around the avowed racist that he’s shown himself to be, because that’s not what they perceived about them in their personal experience with him.

Sometimes, though, things just suddenly “click.”

Like Robert Kardashian realizing that his buddy O.J. didn’t deserve his friendship, people go past the limit of what they can accept or deny.

It looks like, with this week’s intense and bonkers press conference where Trump “accidentally” identified himself with the rallying Nazis in Charlottesville and said that there were decent people and also blame “on both sides,” Trump went too far for Clay Aiken.

Clay Aiken took to Twitter to admit that he’d been wrong to defend the orange mound of humanity’s worst instincts, and also to apologize.

“Remember all those times I defended @realDonaldTrump and believed he was not actually racist? Well… I am a f—ing dumbass. #imsorry.”

To be clear, Clay Aiken didn’t vote for Trump.

He does not and has never supported Trump’s campaign or ever-shifting politics over the past year and a half.

Clay had just been claiming that Trump wasn’t a racist despite, you know, the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Remember, Trump announced his campaign by saying that Mexican immigrants were rapists.

That was literally day one for Trump’s campaign. And it’s gotten worse since then.

Clay tweeted out some clarifications about his stance on Trump:

“I’ve always thought he would be a dumpster fire as a president, and I was right about that. I just didn’t think he was racist. #wrong”

We’re not sure how Clay was able to overlook quite so many incidents.

Even if we stick to only the race stuff … there’s so much.

From Trump’s failure to disavow the KKK and David Duke when he was being praised and endorsed by them on the campaign trail.

To Trump hiring white nationalists as his advisors.

How about Trump appointing Jeff Sessions The Racism Elf to be Attorney General?

To be fair, though, we don’t quite understand how Trump’s actual supporters managed to overlook his racism, either.

For some, it was literally why they voted for him. Because, you know, evil.

For others, though, they voted to spite President Obama or to spite Hillary Clinton or because they always vote red or, in a few rare cases, because they genuinely weighed their options and thought that he’d be better for business or whatever.

(This is a man who bankrupted a casino among various other failed ventures, but whatever)

In the past — like, in interviews — Clay Aiken had described Trump’s blatantly racist statements as reminding him of embarrassing statements that a drunk uncle might make at a family gathering.

“You still love him, but you’d wish he shut up.”

Clay, if your uncle gets drunk and starts referring to Mexicans as rapists, then your uncle is racist. He just might hide it better when he’s sober.

Clay Aiken did not want anyone walking away from their Twitter feed thinking that he’d voted for Trump and is only now having regrets.

“My party is the Democrats. I didn’t vote for the idiot. Never ever implied that I did or would. Was VERY vocal about not voting for him.”

Some polls suggest that as many as one in eight Trump voters have had serious second thoughts or even outright regrets over their vote for him.

That doesn’t mean that Trump’s opponent, or Pence’s if Trump has resigned or been carted off to jail by 2020, will have an easy fight.

Republicans in Congress still want to strip away healthcare and essentially dismantle many parts of the United States government. They know that they’ll need a fellow Republican in the Oval Office in order to do that.

The same people who voted for a screaming mound of earwax out of spite will probably do it again.

Clay Adler: Mourned by Jennifer Lawrence, Considered a Hero in Death

Clay Adler is no longer with us.

But more than just his spirit will live on.

As tragically reported on Tuesday, Adler committed suicide late last month when he shot himself in the head during an afternoon out in the desert with friends.

A star on MTV reality series Newport Harbor for its two-season run, Adler had landed a couple small roles in a couple small movies back in 2009, actually befriending Jennifer Lawrence in the process.

The two hit Hollywood right about the same time.

“Clay brings Jennifer back to her humble beginnings and hearing that he took his own life really has made Jennifer feel heartbroken,” a source told Hollywood Life of the Oscar winner’s reaction to this news.

The insider concluded:

“It is really sad because she remembers him fondly and never wants to hear anything like this happen to anyone… she is really bummed out over it.”

Adler’s father, meanwhile, has spoken directly to People Magazine.

He has confirmed that his son died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but also that “out of every bad thing,” can come a “good thing.”

Meaning what, exactly?

“Clay had requested that his organs – and he did this years ago when he applied for a driver’s license – that his organs be donated to people,” says Frank Adler, telling the publication that Clay has already “saved about for or five lives.”

There were no drugs and no alcohol found in the 27-year old’s system at the time of his suicide.

But Adler had reportedly suffered for years from mental illness.

Still, Frank says, he was unaware that his child was struggling with anything specific in his personal life.

“There were no signs. No real signs,” he tells People, emphasizing that Clay “had been clean for several years.”

A funeral was held last month for Adler.

He shot himself on March 25, but doctors were able to keep him alive an extra day so that family members could say goodbye and so that his organs could be properly harvested.

“They kept him alive a little bit longer so that he could do the donations we’re talking about,” says Frank.

“The hospital did say that he’s donated more than they’ve ever seen because his internals were in phenomenal shape.”

Frank says that several people have come forward to express their gratitude for Clay’s organ donations, meaning his son at least leaves behind a special legacy.

“That’s a good thing that came out of it,” Frank concludes. “Clay would be thrilled that these people are now living because of him.”

Clay Adler, Former MTV Reality Star, Commits Suicide

Clay Adler, a model and television personality best known for his former role on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, committed suicide while on hanging out with friends last month.

He was 25 years old.

The ex-reality star was likely best known for his leading role on the aforementioned series.

It premiered on August 13, 2007 and concluded on January 2, 2008, serving as a successor to Laguna Beach.

The program chronicled the lives of several teenagers living in Newport Harbor (an affluent community within Orange County) and was structured more like a regular TV show than a documentary.

Adler appeared on both seasons of the show, taking on the “role” of Grant Newman’s close friend and Chrissy Schwartz’s occasional boyfriend.

According to TMZ insiders, Adler and a few pals went shooting in the desert on March 25.

At one point, in the middle of firing off a few rounds, Adler turned the gun on his own head and pulled the trigger.

He died the following day in the hospital from this gunshot wound.

Law enforcement officials tell TMZ that no drugs or alcohol were found in Adler’s system, but the 25-year old had struggled with mental illness in the past.

After Newport Harbor went off the air, Adler tried to break into the world of acting, earning roles in such films as Make It or Break It and The Fish Tank.

Both were released in 2009.

Adler got started in Hollywood around the same time as Jennifer Lawrence.

The two struck up a little friendship about 10 years ago, posing together on the red carpet in a photo that is making the Internet rounds along with this sad news.

Not much else is known about Clay Adler, so we’ll end with his official bio, courtesy of his time as an MTV reality star:

Clay Adler is a junior and although shy with girls, he is regarded as Newport Harbor’s hottest guy. Born and raised in Newport Harbor, Adler takes full advantage of his oceanfront playground.

Whether he’s fishing from his speedboat off Balboa Island or surfing on one of Newport Harbor’s famous breaks, Adler catches girls’ glances wherever he goes.

Adler’s humble attitude belies his looks and he often turns to Grant, his gregarious friend, for a boost of confidence. While it seems Adler could have any girl he wants, his shyness has kept him from having a relationship.

But when Adler develops real feelings for Chrissy — and she responds accordingly — it could be his chance to break out.

May Adler, and all the other celebrities who passed away in 2017, rest in peace.

We send our condolences to their friends, family members and loved ones.

Clay Aiken SLAMS American Idol: What a Snoozefest!

In honor of its final season kicking off, American Idol brought back a few fan favorites on its Wednesday night premiere.

Clay Aiken was not one of them. And we have a feeling he won’t be making an appearance on the show that made him famous any time soon, either.

The Season 2 finalist live-Tweeted his American Idol viewing experience this week, telling followers it was the first time he tuned in for the show in about 10 years.

And it’s safe to say he was not impressed.

“Well… now I know why the ratings are down,” Aiken wrote early on, adding:

“Oh good Lord… those boring ass responses from the judges!? Where is Simon when you need him!? That guy need a hook to pull him off stage.”

There are many reasons why American Idol has lost popularity over the years, from other singing shows such as The Voice rising up to simple viewer fatigue.

But Aiken isn’t wrong. Losing Simon Cowell was a major blow to the franchise.

It’s been a struggle to replace someone with his expertise, honesty and humor.

In Aiken’s view, he was the only reason to tune in on a weekly basis:

“It’s VERY clear now that @SimonCowell was the reason @AmericanIdol was a hit. I’ve watched root canals more entertaining than these judges.”

Aiken finished second on Season 2 to Ruben Studdard.

He has gone on to star on Broadway and even run for political office in North Carolina.

He is unafraid to speak his mind.

“Leave it to the contestants from #Raleigh NC to totally make tonight’s show worth watching!!” he also Tweeted, remaining loyal to his home state.

Upon receiving backlash for his rebuke of American Idol, Aiken replied that he only spoke this way out of love… and frustration:

“When your favorite team that you’ve cheered for for years happens to play a shitty game, you’re absolutely allowed to be upset about it.

“We’re all more critical of the things we care about most.”
