John McCain Dies; War Hero, U.S. Senator Was 81

John McCain, a Vietnam war hero who served as a U.S. Senator for over 20 years, died Saturday at his home in Arizona, his office has confirmed.

He was 81 years old.

This is what the statement from his office read:

“With the Senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family. At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years.”

The politician proudly referred to himself often as a “maverick” over his long and impressive career, as McCain was known over the years as a Republican who was unafraid to work with Democrats and/or to speak his mind.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in 1958, McCain was shot down while on a bombing mission over Hanoi in 1967.

He famously refused to be let go by his captors until all other American soldiers also apprehended were released and ended up serving as a prisoner of war for five years.

McCain was tortured for the duration of his captivity.

He retired from the Navy as a captain in 1981 and moved to Arizona, where he entered politics.

(UPDATE: Cindy McCain has said the following in a Tweet:

My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years.

He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the the place he loved best.)

In 1982, McCain was elected to the United States House of Representatives, where he served two terms.

He then entered the U.S. Senate in 1987 and easily won reelection five times, most recently in 2016.

McCain’s passing comes over a year since he announced to the world from a rare type of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

As soon as he revealed this awful news in July of 2017, it was sadly assumed that he would not have very much longer to live.

But McCain once again defied the odds.

Not only did he survive for over a year, he played a significant political role during this period, even casting a deciding vote on healthcare reform in 2017.

He passed away days after wife Cindy announced that her husband had chosen to “discontinue medical care.”

“I love my husband with all of my heart. God bless everyone who has cared for my husband along this journey,” she wrote as a caption to the following message on August 24:

John McCain stattement

Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers, reads the message, concluding:

God bless and thank you all.

McCain ran for President in 2000, losing in the Republican primary to George W. Bush.

He also ran for President in 2008, earning the Republican nomination and losing in the general electionto Barack Obama.

A maverick up until the very end of his run in the Senate, McCain voted against the Republican-led effort to repeal Obamacare last year…

… and has spoken out strongly against President Donald Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After being diagnosed in 2017, McCain returned to the Senate floor and gave a rousing speech about politics and public service.

He implored his fellow politicians to vote with their conscience and to remember why they were voted into office by the citizens of their state and country.

Having lamented the polarization and decline of civility in our political system for years, he urged his colleagues to rise above party affiliation.

“Our responsibilities are important, vitally important, to the continued success of our republic,” he said at the time.

“And our arcane rules and customs are deliberately intended to require broad cooperation to function well at all.

“The most revered members of this institution accepted the necessity of compromise in order to make incremental progress on solving America’s problems and defend her from her adversaries.”

Expect plenty of tributes to pour forth from those who knew McCain and those whose lives were touched by McCain in the hours, days and weeks to come.

May this great American rest in peace.

UPDATE: Senator Mitch McConnell has released a statement in light of this news.

It reads as follows:

mcconnell statement

And this is what Barack Obama and Michele Obama have said:

Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did.

But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own.

There’s also this from Melania Trump:

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to the McCain Family. Thank you Senator McCain for your service to the nation.

And this from Meghan McCain, on her dad:

Farrah Abraham: Tyler Balitierra Sucks! Stormy Daniels Is a Hero!

It"s been an interesting week for the adult film industry.

Come to think of it, there probably aren"t too many boring weeks when you get naked in front of strangers for a living, but this one has been particularly eventful.

Two of the world"s most famous sex workers came under fire in very different ways, and they"re both speaking out in defense of themselves and their colleagues.

On Wednesday night, Stormy Daniels was arrested while performing at a strip club in Ohio.

That same day, Teen Mom OG star Tyler Baltierra criticized Farrah Abraham, his former co-star who was fired as a result of her live online sex show.

Now, Farrah is speaking out in defense of porn stars and strippers everywhere — and it"s all just as amusing and confusing as you would expect:

1. Farrah on Cam

Farrah abraham cam girl

Even though she was raking in a ton of cash from TMOG and her many side businesses, Farrah decided last year to start performing in live online sex shows.

2. The Veteran

Farrah backdoor teen mom

As fans know, it wasn’t her first foray into the adult entertainment world — Farrah has previously starred in a “sex tape” with the unforgettable title of Backdoor Teen Mom.

3. Free From Farrah

Sitting for an interview with Dr. Oz this week, Tyler Baltierra revealed that he and the rest of the cast are very glad to be free of Farrah.

4. Tyler Speaks Out

Tyler speaks out

Baltierra stated that he and the rest of the cast feel that Farrah’s lifestyle doesn’t align with the values of the show and that she served as a bad role model for TMOG’s younger audience members.

5. Team Tyler

Team tyler

Baltierra even gave a shout-out to the producers who kicked Farrah to the curb. “We had a lot of admiration and respect for how our production company handled it,” he added. “It was a good way to get it heard and do that they did.”

6. Farrah On the Warpath

Farrah, of course, is suing MTV’s parent company Viacom for wrongful dismissal. And she recently a completely batsh-t statement to TooFab in response to Tyler’s comments and the events of this week.

Woman Called a "Smelly Fatty" on a Flight ... But Then a Hero Intervened

Flying on an airplane is an exercise in misery. This is even more true for people who are even slightly larger than average.

One woman’s worst nightmare became a reality when the man seated beside her referred to her as a “smelly fatty.” She broke down into tears.

She says that this is when a heroic other passenger stepped in.

In a lengthy post to Facebook, Samantha Phillips shares the story of her humiliation.

“I am only sharing this story of what happened to me today in hopes that the person who stuck up for me will somehow be recognized..”

She gets her wish. Whoops, sorry, that’s a spoiler.

“I’ve been on airplanes for the past three weeks. My flight to Chicago was changed to an earlier flight because of storms, so I didn’t get to pick my seat like a normally do.”

Not ideal at all.

“I always try to sit in a row where I don’t have to sit next to anyone.”

That’s good. Even a window seat is preferable to being stuck in the middle.

“I’m not the biggest person on the airplane, but I’m not the smallest.”

That’s true for most people. Technically, that’s true for all but two people on any given flight. But it seems that she is self-conscious about her weight.

“My worst nightmare is someone being uncomfortable because they have to sit next to me.

“My seat was assigned at the gate, and when we boarded I was sitting next to an older guy who said he was a comedian.”

That’s how you know that it’s going to be either a great flight or a terrible one.

Samantha got the latter.

“He looked like he was in his 60s and had on bright yellow sunglasses. He stood up so I could get into my seat next to the window.”

This is when the trouble started.

“As soon as I got buckled, he sat back down. The flight attendant started the safety speech and he got his phone out (with huge font and the screen brightness turned all the way up).”

As people age, often eyesight can fail, requiring that they zoom in a little more on their devices. The results can be that it looks like people are using some sort of Fisher Price edition of their phone’s OS.

It also makes their texts almost impossible to not see for those around them.

“His phone was maybe 12 inches from my face and he proceeded to text someone that he was sitting next to ‘a smelly fatty."”

That is … unspeakable.

As you can imagine, this woman was mortified and crushed.

“I don’t even know what the rest of his text said. I turned my head away as fast as I could.”

Some have tried to shame her for “snooping.” When words are that size, you can’t help but see them. And she was not the only one who saw.

“I was shocked and it was like confirmation of the negative things I think about myself on a daily basis.”

It’s everyone with a self esteem issue’s worst nightmare — learning that others see them the way that they see themselves.

“Before I knew it, I could feel hot, salty tears coming down my face. I sat and cried silently, hoping this guy didn’t try to make small talk.”

Sometimes, something hits you in the emotions before you can safely dissociate. It catches you off guard and the tears come out.

“Because I didn’t trust how I would react and I didn’t want to get kicked off the plane. I was so hurt.”

Of course. What a horrible, impossible situation.

“The pilot came overhead and said there would be a 30 minute delay before he could take off — great. Just more time I would have to sit next to this creep.”

“We sat on the runway waiting for the OK to take off for about 10 minutes- I sat there unable to stop silently crying.”

Sometimes, humiliation and emotional pain has a snowball effect and cannot be easily silenced.

“I was scrunching myself up against the wall as far as I could. All of a sudden, someone from behind us taps on the guy’s shoulder and says, ‘Hey- I need to talk to you."”

That someone from behind them was a guy named Chase Irwin.

“The guy next to me takes out his headphones. Someone behind us says, ‘We are switching seats. Now."”

Way to take charge, dude.

“‘The guy next to me said, ‘OK- why?’ And I hear someone say (removing curse words), ‘You are texting about her, and I’m not putting up with that."”

When you’re texting in a big-ass font that people beside you and seated on another row can read, you might as well be speaking out loud.

“A guy comes and sits next to me and is shocked when he sees me crying. He asked if I saw the texts and I nodded yes.”

That was probably difficult to admit.

“He encouraged me not to let that guy get to me and that everything was going to be fine. We talked about Ross and the kids, his two year old son, our jobs, amongst other things. “

“He said he just happened to see that guy’s text messages he started shaking he was so mad and knew he had to do something.”

Most people would probably just sit there and feel sorry for her, or sit there and wish the rude texter dead, or both. This guy actually did something about it.

“He stopped the flight attendant and told her what he was about to do.”

So this wall all sanctioned by the flight crew.

“I told him thank you for what he did and that it meant the world to me — and that he would be my husband’s new favorite person.”

Ours, too!

“The flight attendant kept trying to give him free drinks and told him that he was her hero.  “

As pictured, Chase even got recognized by his place of employment. It’s what he deserves.

Kanye West Praises His Hero Emma Gonzalez, Who Swerves Him Hard

Recently, Kanye West has praised Donald Trump. But not all of his political statements fall in line with what his fellow “MAGA” enthusiasts would like to see.

Kanye recently tweeted that Parkland shooting survivor and gun control activist Emma Gonzalez is his hero.

Emma responded indirectly with a hard swerve … in a very classy way. Take a look.

Kanye West seems so proud of his “MAGA” hat.

Sure, his family doesn’t like it and his friends and fans feel betrayed, but he and Trump have the same “dragon energy’ so …

We guess that we know that Kanye’s priorities have always been himself and whatever whims he might have.

But as Kanye’s newly acquired pro-Trump fans are learning … he can be all over the place.

For example, Kanye tweeted this:

Kanye West Tweets About Emma Gonzalez

“My hero Emma Gonzalez,” he writes.

Emma Gonzalez is, of course, one of the survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that claimed 17 innocent lives.

Since surviving that horrible shooting, she has become an outspoken advocate for gun control regulations to try to prevent further senseless tragedies.

Because of this, she has become the target of hate and even the subject of multiple deranged conspiracy theories.

(Since the Sandy Hook shooting, it has become increasingly common for far right conspiracy theorists to refer to mass shootings as “false flag” operations or hoaxes staged by the government or Illuminati or whatever)

It is an understatement to say that Kanye’s admiration for Emma is not entirely in keeping with the Trump agenda.

Emma Gonzales Tweets About James Shaw Jr.

Emma responded indirectly, copying Kanye’s statement to name her own hero: James Shaw Jr.

Shaw disarmed the shooter at the Waffle House shooting in April, using her bare hands (and getting severe burns) to save the lives of every single survivor.

Since then, Shaw has dismissed the idea that he is a hero, and has used his newfound platform to raise money for the families of the victims who died that day.

He is certainly worthy of praise and admiration.

And it was an intensely classy way for Emma to redirect attention brought on by Kanye to someone whose heroism she admires.

(Yes, she swerved him, and yes, we are aware that the term swerve in this context comes from Kanye’s own lyrics)

But Kanye had still more to say about Emma.

“Inspired by Emma,” he wrote under this selfie.

Some who saw this wondered if Kanye is talking about genuine inspiration, or if he is referring to the similarities between his haircut and Emma’s.

(It is worth noting, by the way, that Emma’s haircut is not a feminist statement or an expression of her sexuality — she’s bi — but just a practical choice for Florida’s hellish swamp climate)

Kanye being Kanye, he is probably being sincere.

That’s honestly nice of him, though as the world as seen recently as Kanye compares himself and Trump to dragons, Kanye’s admiration does not always mean that he shares their views.

It may be that Kanye admires Emma’s fight and her passion — as so many do.

That doesn’t mean that he treasures his signed “MAGA” hat any less.

Kanye’s Twitter activity recently has been bizarre, to the point where his wife, Kim Kardashian, has been using her powerful social media platform to defend him.

Kanye’s friends who loathe Trump may agree to disagree with Kanye and patiently explain things when they come up … but a lot of his fans feel betrayed.

This is the man who slammed George W. Bush for his inexcusable inaction during Hurricane Katrina.

It’s hard for them to understand why Kanye would admire a man who is beloved by white nationalists and whose campaign and administration have been filled with racism.

But perhaps they’ll take comfort in the knowledge that Kanye still has a ton of admiration for a lot of worthy people, like Emma.
