Jemele Hill: SportsCenter Host"s Suspension Creates Uproar for ESPN!
Just after 3pm today, ESPN released a statement on the two-week suspension of SportsCenter host Jemele Hill.
It is not going over well.
To understand why she was suspended and also why the outcry over it is so powerful, you need to see the tweet that started it all.
ESPN tweeted out their statement on Jemele’s suspension:
“Jemele Hill has been suspended for two weeks for a second violation of our social media guidelines.”
A second, you say?
The statement continues with the formal version of “we warned her about this.”
“She previously acknowledged letting her colleagues and company down with an impulsive tweet. In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences. Hence this action.”
First of all, we wish that the US Federal Government worked like this, in that politicians could get suspended (or potentially fired) for outrageously inflammatory tweets.
But second of all … this message doesn’t make any sense once you see what Jemele actually tweeted.
Obviously, everyone’s first question was: “What did she tweet?”
ESPN spokesperson Josh Krulewitz answered.
As it turns out, Jemele engaged a couple of times in threads on Twitter about a potential boycott of companies that advertise with the Dallas Cowboys.
These were threads in which people were asking what they could do, aside from simply stopping watching Cowboys games, to express their ire and frustration over Jerry Jones’ recent statements (which we’ll get to in a moment).
Quoting one tweet from such a thread, Jemele tweeted:
“This play always works. Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about JJ’s statement, boycott his advertisers.”
She also tweeted, quoting a Twitter user who was concerned that not enough people in Dallas would be willing to boycott Cowboy games:
“Or, how about not patronizing the advertisers who support the Cowboys? You can watch and do that, right?”
Note that she wasn’t encouraging a boycott of ESPN or even encouraging a boycott of the games, which she clarified in another tweet.
“Just so we’re clear: I’m not advocating a NFL boycott. But an unfair burden has been put on players in Dallas & Miami w/ anthem directives.”
She was literally just advising people on what is and is not effective in terms of making their voices heard against Jerry Jones.
Jerry Jones is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, which is a football team.
Jerry has promised to bench any player who “disrespects the flag.”
While in real life that might mean burning a flag or stomping on it or wearing one of those redneck flag shirts, in Jerry Jones’ mind, it means kneeling silently during the National Anthem in protest against the killings of unarmed black Americans by police.
Obviously, Jerry Jones’ statement is deeply controversial. To many, it puts players in an impossible position — do they get fired for their beliefs, or do they sell out?
At a time when Vice President Mike Pence pulled a ridiculous stunt by flying out to a game, waiting until players knelt during the Anthem, and then leaving in a planned huff because they’d knelt.
Not only was this the goal from the beginning, but it cost taxpapers more than $ 200,000. All wasted for a gimmick.
Oh, and by leaving, Mike Pence was protesting … which is literally exactly what he apparently can’t stand about the football players.
Political polarization and the omnipresence of social media combine to make a lot of employees and employers nervous about tweets.
But while there are absolutely some warnings and suspensions that sound warranted, this one in particular has fans in shock.
It appears that ESPN’s role as a sports news broadcaster is in conflict with its role as a sports broadcasting partner.
The latter could lose out if there’s a boycott of any kind. The former, on the other hand, has an obligation to talk about all aspects of sports.
ESPN needs to figure out its priorities, but more urgently, they need to reinstate Jemele Hill.
Jemele, in the mean time, is getting her social media accounts bombarded by various MAGA trolls who accuse her of being a “black supremacist,” among other things that we couldn’t possibly repeat.
That’s quite a way to add insult to injury.

Cutest Mom Ever Creates First Meme.. And It Goes Viral!
Perhaps you heard (approximately six million times), but there was a total eclipse this past Monday.
The Internet went even crazier for it than it went for the last Kim Kardashian nude pictorial, with infrequent users even getting in on the action.
Take the mother of a 21-year old named Sasha who uses the Twitter handle @Junglefushimi, for example.
As documented below, this woman created her first meme in honor of the historic occasion… and she was REALLY proud of it.
She told her daughter she hoped it would go viral, and the Internet was only too happy to oblige!
1. This is the Meme the Mother Made
2. I Made That!
3. Just Call Me… Memer Mom!
4. Everyone Loves Memer Mom
5. A Plus?
6. X-Men?

Duggar Family: Photo of Josh & Jessa"s Children Creates Controversy
The many, many children of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are no strangers to controversy.
Obviously, the Josh Duggar sex scandals will continue to haunt the family for many years to come, and rightfully so.
But long before those charges came to light, Duggar critics were often in an uproar over the family’s controversial ideas about child-rearing.
That’s a photo of Josh Duggar’s daughter Meredith and Jessa Duggar’s son Spurgeon.
The image was posted on the family’s official Facebook page earlier this week, along with a caption reading:
“Train them young! These little ones love to ‘help."”
Many fans took issue with the Duggars use of the word “train” for a number of reasons.
For one thing, the verb brings to mind the raising of a young animal, not a child, a fact that many fans pointed out in the photo’s comments section:
“You don’t train a child anything. You teach a child,” wrote one follower.
“How dare you say ‘train’ a child. That’s seriously messed up. Next you’ll be training them to lay in bed to repopulate the world the way you think it should be done. You’ll have another josh on your hands sooner than later.”
The word choice is bad enough for that reason, but in the case of the Duggars, “train” is problematic for other reasons, as well.
For many fans, it served as a reminder of Michelle Duggar’s belief in the controversial practice of “blanket training.”
The term refers to an exercise in which a very young child is seated on a blanket and told to remain stll.’
When the child attempts to move from the blanket, he or she is struck with an object.
Needless to say, many former fans were appalled and cut ties with the Duggars when Michelle came out in support of blanket training.
On top of everything else, the Duggars have often been criticized for the amount of time and effort their children are forced to put into household chores.
Sources have claimed that maintenance of the “Duggar compound” is tantamount to a full-time job for many pf the Duggar children, beginning before they even reach their teens.
The so-called “Cinderella Duggar,” Jana, reportedly puts so much time into household chores that she’s given up on the idea of ever getting married and starting a family of her own.
When you factor in the many Duggar scandals related to child-rearing and work around the house, it’s not hard to see how so many could be so upset by a photo of two young children.

Tony Perkins Doesn"t Think God Creates Natural Disasters to Punish Gay People Anymore
As we all know by now, irony is rain on your wedding day.
It is also 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.
But it’s ALSO this:
In 2015, the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins spoke with a Messianic Jewish pastor named Jonathan Cahn.
The latter had previously implied that that Hurricane Joaquin, which caused endless damage t the Bahamas, was a “sign of God’s wrath” against abortion and the Supreme Court’s ruling that legalized same-sex marriage.
Perkins concurred, saying last year that while “those on the Left like to mock these things,” there’s no doubt about how “God is trying to send us a message.”
He went on to echo Cahn’s sentiments regarding U.S. leaders having “crossed a gigantic line” and “overruled the word of God massively” when they “legalized the killing of the unborn in 1973 and now we have the striking down of marriage.”
These comments were made in October of 2015.
Fast forward less than one year to the devastation in Louisiana at the moment, as extreme flooding has leveled thousands of homes in the state.
Perkins said on Tuesday that he and his family had to escape their house in a canoe over the weekend due to this natural disaster.
“This is a flood of, I would have to say, near-biblical proportions,” Perkins said on his “Washington Watch” radio show, adding:
“This is unlike anything we’ve seen before… It’s a matter of picking up the pieces.”
It’s an awful tragedy, one affecting a region that is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
Perkins said he and his family will residence in a trailer for six months while their home is under repair.
He’s fortunate to even have that option, as countless people have nowhere to go right now.
This time around, however, Perkins didn’t tie the recent flooding to divine intervention
He referred to the flooding as tool for inspiration, not revenge, changing his tune around because he was actually affected by this disaster.
He said these floods had been sent as an “incredible, encouraging spiritual exercise to take you to the next level in your walk with an almighty and gracious God who does all things well.”
In a 2014, however, on another “Washington Watch” broadcast, Perkins reacted to Colorado’s Civil Rights Commission unanimously upholding a judge’s finding that a baker unlawfully discriminated against gay customers… by using a Holocaust metaphor.
“I’m beginning to think, are re-education camps next?” he said on air.
“When are they going to start rolling out the boxcars to start hauling off Christians?”
In other words: Perkins likely thinks these floods are a “spiritual exercise to take you to the next level in your walk with an almighty and gracious God who does all things well.”
Unless you’re gay. In which case he still thinks they are an act of revenge.

Farrah Abraham Creates New Name for Fans, Despite Not Having Any
These days, it’s not uncommon for celebrities to come up with a collective name for their fans.
For example, Lady Gaga has her “Little Monsters” and Justin Bieber’s got “Beliebers,” and their followers wear the moniker proudly.
And then there’s Farrah Abraham.
The two-bit reality TV personality has chosen the name “RahRahs” to describe her fans, alluding to the last syllable of her first name, but it doesn’t seem to be catching on.
The Teen Mom OG star used the indicator in her last two Instagram posts, trying hard to make it a thing.
“Thanks for all your support my #RAHRAHS” she wrote in the caption of an image promoting her social media accounts.
“Can you guess what I’m up to next from my #snapchat love all my #RahRahs,” she captioned a second post.
However, upon clicking the presumptuous hashtag, one is taken to a collection of posts primarily depicting cheerleaders.
In fact, the only two entries that have anything to do with Farrah are the ones she posted herself.
Let’s see if it’s taking off on Twitter.
Aha! We see the hashtag used by a fan here! That’s right, a fan. As in, one.
It’s a direct tweet to Farrah in reply to her hashtagged tweet, coming from @WhitneysTruLove, a user who claims to have been Whitney Houston’s married life partner.
Welp, you gotta hand it to the woman.
Fail as she might, Farrah is unrelenting in her attempts to drum up publicity for herself, whether she’s trying to resurrect old beefs with Nicki Minaj or starring in Easter Bunny porn.
Sorry, Farrah, much like “fetch,” #rahrahs just isn’t going to happen.
