Michael Cohen Flips on Donald Trump, Accuses the President of Federal Crimes

Michael Cohen, who worked for two decades as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, reached a plea deal today with federal prosecutors in court.

In doing so, the man who has often been referred to as the President’s “fixer” implicated the Commander-in-Chief in two major crimes.

Michael Cohen in a Suit

=

Cohen is now on record as saying “in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office” he acted to keep information that would have been harmful to the candidate and the campaign from becoming public during the 2016 election cycle.

Translation:

Cohen has flipped on his long-time client.

The “candidate” referenced above is very obviously Trump (no one is arguing against this) and the coordinated effort about which Cohen is talking has to do with payments made on Trump’s behalf to a pair of women:

1. Karen McDougal.

2. Stormy Daniels.

Trump allegedly carried on affairs with both of these women and, with Cohen’s assistance, arranged for each to be paid off in order to keep them quiet about the sexual intercourse.

Under regular circumstances, this might not be illegal.

A woman is allowed to sign a contract in which she agrees not to disclose details about nearly anything in exchange for a sum of money.

HOWEVER, Cohen says he was instructed by Trump to make these payments specifically so that news of his affairs would not affect the Presidential election.

The deals were made with the explicit cause of influencing the minds of votes and THAT is what makes them potentially against the law.

“I participated in the conduct for the purposes of influencing the election,” Cohen said about his payments to porn star Daniels and ex-Playboy model McDougal.

Yes, he said this in court.

Yes, it’s safe to assume he will testify to this same charge if he must do so again.

And, yes, it’s possible Cohen has tapes of Trump making various admission and issuing certain directives, since one exchange between the attorney and his former client has already been made public.

It depicts Cohen and Trump discussing the payment that will be made to McDougal.

You can listen to it here:

Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts during his day in court on Tuesday.

The charges against Cohen include:

Tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations tied to his work for Trump… including payments Cohen made or helped orchestrate that were designed to silence women who claimed affairs with the then-candidate.

Regarding the charge linked to Daniels, Cohen said the money “was later repaid to me by the candidate.”

Trump, of course, has denied having knowledge that Cohen paid anyone off on his behalf and has certainly denied ever paying him back.

Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, didn’t shy away from directly calling out the president this afternoon.

“If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?” he asked in a statement.

That’s a fair question.

Elsewhere this afternoon, Paul Manafort – President Trump’s former campaign chairman, pictured below – was found guilty on eight counts of financial crimes by a federal jury in Virginia.

This verdict came about as a result of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Manafort faces a maximum of 80 years in jail after being found guilty on five tax fraud counts, two counts of bank fraud and one charge of hiding foreign bank accounts.

For the record now, Trump’s former national security advisor, lawyer and deputy campaign manager have all pleaded guilty to various federal crimes.

His former campaign manager has been convicted of eight felonies.

Can you imagine all that Mueller and his team would uncover if this weren’t a Rigged Witch Hunt?!?

Paul Manafort: Former Trump Campaign Chairman Indicted By Federal Authorities

Greasy political operative and rejected Goodfellas extra Paul Manafort has turned himself in to the FBI after being indicted on a number of federal charges.

The indictments against Manafort are the first to result from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Manafort’s former business associate Rick Gates was also charged this morning.

Mueller obtained grand jury indictments on Friday, but until today, it was not known which members of the Trump campaign would be instructed to turn themselves over to authorities.

The indictments are set to be unsealed momentarily.

Manafort joined the Trump campaign in March of 2016.

Three months later, Manafort, Donald Trump Jr., and Jared Kushner met with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya, who informed them he was holding information that he claimed would prove beneficial to the efforts to sabotage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

In August of 2016, Manafort’s ties to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych became a source of controversy, as it was revealed that he had illegally received $ 12.7 million in off-the-books funds from the Party of Regions.

That same week, Manafort resigned from the campaign.

Details regarding the charges against Manafort and Gates are unknown at this time.

Several media outlets are reporting that they’ve reached out to both men’s attorneys for comment, but have received no response.

Whatever the case, the indictments signal the start of a new phase in Mueller’s investigation of the Trump campaign.

At the heart of the investigation is the question of whether or not Trump’s firing of former FBI director James Comey amounts to obstruction of justice.

Mueller is taking a wide-ranging approach to the matter, probing the Trump campaign’s financial dealings with Russia in order to determine if the president and his team had incentive to try and silence Comey.

In July, the FBI raided Manafort’s Alexandria, Virginia, seizing a number of financial and tax documents.

We will have further details about this developing story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: The Manafort and Gates indictments have been unsealed. We niw know that the charges include “conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.”

Vanessa Hudgens: Instagram Photo Leads to Federal Investigation

On Valentine’s Day this year, Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler celebrated with a trip to Sedona, Arizona, a desert town known for its beautiful scenery and red rock formations.

To commemorate their love, the lovebirds carved “Austin + Vanessa” surrounded by a heart shape into one of the majestic rocks.

The Grease Live star shared it with her Instagram followers and everyone thought it was adorbs… except for the federal government.

Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler name carving in Sedona

It turns out that defacing public land belonging to the United States violates a federal law, and the two could face a fine of $ 5,000 or up to six months in jail.

We’ve got a hunch they’d choose the fine.

“This incident is currently under investigation, so there is not much I can share specifically since I am not privy to the details of an investigation until it is complete,” Coconino National Forest Public Affairs Officer Brady Smith told Us Weekly.

“However, I can say that the issue of people carving their names and other things in rocks in the Sedona and surrounding area is always a challenge we face, and try to inform people about its destructive nature. We have found that when one person carves something, it encourages others to carve.”

Vanessa has since removed the photo of the carving.

We’re sure the two didn’t realize they were doing anything illegal or even immoral and were just acting like a couple of love-struck teens. But, of course, the officer has a point.

The rocks of Sedona are breathtaking works of nature, and it would be a shame if they were covered in graffiti.

Still, it hasn’t been the best month for Vanessa. Just hours before taking the stage to perform Grease Live, her father died of cancer.

A consummate professional, with a “the show must go on” mentality, she bravely (and flawlessly) executed the role and dedicated her performance to her dad.
