The Voice Recap: Who Was Sent Home?

Night two of the Knockouts turned up the heat on the latest episode of The Voice, and that meant more people sent home.

Team Adam got to have a break on the latest episode which found Team Alicia, Team Blake and Team Kelly playing out their latest Knockouts.

But who managed to fight their way to the next stage of the competition?

Let’s break down the latest three Knockouts!

Team Kelly: Brynn Cartelli singing “Here Comes Goodbye” vs. Jamella singing “Girl Crush”

Brynn and Jamella going against each other was a foregone conclusion. Brynn did the best she possibly could with such a weak song choice, but she delivered a better performance than Jamella did.

Brynn emerged with the win, and that meant Jamella was the latest contestant to depart the competition. However, Brynn does not have the vocal range to make it much further in the competition.

Expect her to be cut in the next few weeks because, well, she’s got nothing on some of the other singers.

Winner: Brynn

Team Blake: Pryor Baird singing “Will It Go Round in Circles” vs. Jaron Strom singing “Grenade”

Pryor took to the stage and wowed the audience with his rendition of the Billy Preston song. He delivered one of the best performances of the night.

The same could not be said for Jaron, who murdered this Bruno Mars classic. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and it was unsurprising that he was the one sent home.

Song choice is key, and it makes it seem like the producers are meddling when certain people are given horrible songs to work with.

Team Alicia: Terrence Cunningham singing “Tell Me Something Good” vs. Christiana Danielle singing “Elastic Heart”

Christiana’s performance was spectacular. She managed to get everyone on her side with her striking rendition of the SIA classic.

There’s something about her performance that elevated her above the others. She was confident throughout and delivered in her performance.

Terrance was similarly confident, but his vocals were lacking. He needs to establish what sound he’s going for, and stick with it.

By this time, we should know what to expect when an artist takes to the stage.

Winner: Terrence

Save: Christiana By Alicia

Okay, what did you think of the latest twists and turns for your favorite The Voice contestants? Who should not have advanced to the next stage of the competition?

The Voice Recap: The Coaches Get More Power Than Ever Before!

With the Battle Rounds well and truly out of the way, it was time for the Knockout Rounds to continue to narrow down the contestants.

A major twist was unleashed that also gifted the coaches with saves, meaning that they could save one of their own contestants after a performance.

Yes, Season 14 is changing things up, and that’s good for an aging series.

Former contestants, Jordan Smith, Chloe Kohanski, Chris Blue and Cassadee Pope, returned to assist Team Adam, Team Blake, Team Alicia and Team Kelly, respectively.

Okay, let’s break down the six Knockouts of the night.

Team Blake: Kyla Jade singing “You Don’t Own Me” vs. Jaclyn Lovey singing “Put Your Records On.”

Jaclyn kicked this battle for a spot in the competition off, and while it was an okay performance, there was nothing remotely exciting about it.

This was a stark contrast from the way things were for her at the Blind Auditions. This was like a completely different performer, and that’s not a good thing.

A terrible song choice can destroy all credibility for a performer, and that’s a real shame.

Kyla upped her game in a way that I didn’t think was possible. Everything about her rendition of the Lesley Gore classic screamed confidence and finesse.

Winner: Kyla

Save: N/A

Team Kelly: Kaleb Lee singing “Free” vs. Justin Kilgore singing “Shameless.”

Kaleb turned in a solid performance that solidified why he has made so far into the competition. Like Kyla, he improved significantly from his other performances.

Then there was Justin, who proved that he does not have the vocal ability to make it all the way to the live shows. It could be argued that The Voice lets too many sub-par performers all the way to the live shows.

Winner: Kaleb

Save: N/A

Team Adam: Mia Boostrom singing “Wade in the Water” vs. Jackie Foster singing “Bring Me to Life.”

This was a difficult one to watch. Jackie had a lot of great moments singing the Evanescence classic. Like, she knew what was expected of her, and she delivered and then some.

Mia, however, emerged as the better performer, but it was still a tough call … unlike the previous knockouts that came before her.

Winner: Mia

Save: Jackie to Team Alicia

Team Blake: Spensha Baker singing “Broken Halos” vs. Austin Giorgio singing “Almost Like Being in Love.”

This was another close call, and Blake struggled to make a decision about which one to save, so he kept both of them.

They were difficult to benchmark against each other because of how similar they were performance-wise.

Winner: Spensha

Save: Blake saved Austin!

Team Alicia: Johnny Bliss singing “Alive” vs. Miya Bass singing “Castle on the Hill.”

Thankfully, this Knockout was easier to see coming. Johnny’s performance was not spectacular, but it was a cut above Miya’s. Maybe it was unfair to put these two together, but it’s all about getting rid of the weaker vocalists at this stage.

Winner: Johnny Bliss

Save: N/A

Team Adam: Jackie Verna singing “American Honey” vs. Drew Cole singing “Slow Hands.”

Jackie and Drew are at similar stages of their careers, and their voices are actually quite similar. Both performances were decent, and it was clear that another save was going to be used.

Winner: Jackie

Save: Adam Saved Drew!

Okay, what did you think of the performances?

Were you happy with who made it further?

Kelly Clarkson to The Voice Contestant: You Said WHAT About Me?!?

Kelly Clarkson is not one to stir up controversy.

She’s not one to engage in any feuds or get herself involved in really any scandals at all.

But the singer has felt the need to speak out against an accusation no one could have seen coming.

On last night’s edition of The Voice, an aspiring artist named Molly Stevens was shown the door… and she wasn’t happy about it.

The contestant, who is openly gay, wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that she was upset by a comparison Clarkson made during the battle rounds.

For those who missed the episode, Kelly said Stevens reminded her of the Indigo Girls and Melissa Etheridge, which Stevens referred to as a “labeling trap” and “small minded.”

This is what she wrote in its entirety:

While I’m extremely honored to be in that category of talent, I do believe that comment did us all a disservice and only threw us into a labeling trap

It felt small minded to me and exactly what I feel we need to bring attention to the world. I am a singer-songwriter who happens to be gay.

And so it @melissa_etheridge and @indigogirlsmusic… But it’s a common stereotype that happens too often. People put us in boxes.

How about for today I am just Molly Stevens and you be you too.

clarkson accuse

As you can see above, Stevens also thanked her preacher for giving her the courage to make this statement.

But it’s not a statement Clarkson believes she deserves.

“Wow. This really bums me out,” the original American Idol Tweeted upon being informed of Stevens’ critique.

She continued, in her own strong defense:

“I need everyone to hear me and hear ALL OF THE WORDS I SAY.

“I compared Molly to Melissa Etheridge, Patty Griffin (a name that was left out conveniently), and the Indigo Girls purely because of the rasp in her voice and that she’s an amazing storyteller.”

kelly writes back

We tend to believe Kelly.

She’s never shown any hints of homophobia or of any kind of “small-minded” thinking.

She’s always seemed incredibly open and laid back and accepting, never really changing at all through the years, even as her fame sky-rocketed to very impressive levels.

Before this issue was brought up, the only thing Clarkson had ever gotten into trouble for was admitting she sometimes spanks her kids.

And even the reaction to that remark seemed a tad overblown.

What do you think of this so-called scandal?

Is it even a scandal?

Did Clarkson misspeak?

Or did Stevens just react in a bitter manner that she later thought better of upon deleting her comment and this really isn’t a story at all?

Sound off now!

The Voice Recap: Who Advanced to the Knockouts?

There’s something about The Voice Season 14 that feels so fresh as opposed to recent seasons of the NBC juggernaut.

Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton working together has given the show new energy, and it’s reflecting very well on the screen.

As we headed into the final night of the Battle Rounds, it was clear it was going to be a race to the finish for the final spots available on the teams.

Let’s break down the final three (televised!) battles of the season.

Team Adam: Jackie Verna vs. Stephanie Skipper – “These Dreams”

What do you get when you put two people who should never have made it past the auditions stage against one another? A fair battle.

Yes, I’ve been critical of the way this show puts strong competitors against the weaker ones, but this was one of the best showcases of what a battle should be.

It could be argued that Jackie was still battling nerves, but she’s going to need to adapt quickly if she dreams of making it much further into the competition.

Both performances had shaky vocals, and there far more deserving people have been sent home due to that.

WinnerJackie

Team Alicia: Terrence Cunningham vs. Livia Faith –  “Stars”

In the second fair battle of the night, Terrence and Livia each put their own spin on the above song, and it was excellent. They sounded so well together.

We would not oppose to them releasing a duet because it sounded more like one instead of a battle for a recording contract. In any case, Alicia was the only judge with a steal left, meaning one of them was being sent home.

Winner: Terrence

Team Blake: Spensha Baker vs. Dallas Caroline – “I Could Use a Love Song”

This was a frustrating battle because Alicia had one steal left, so it was obvious she was going to use it to her advantage. Spensha’s vocals were truly magnificent.

Like, everything about it was like something you would hear from a seasoned artist.

And then there was Dallas. Her portion was all over the shop, so it was frustrating that she was stolen by default from Alicia.

Winner: Spensha

Steal: Dallas to Team Alicia

TEAM STANDINGS:

Team Adam: Drew Cole, Rayshun LaMarr, Mia Boostrom, Reid Umstattd, Gary Edwards, Jackie Verna, Jackie Foster, Jordyn Simone

Team Alicia: Britton Buchanan, Christiana Danielle, Kelsea Johnson, Johnny Bliss, Terrence Cunningham, Sharane Calister, Miya Base, Dallas Caroline

Team Kelly: Brynn Cartelli, D.R. King, Jorge Eduardo, Alexa Cappelli, Jamella, Justin Kilgore, Tish Haynes Keys, Kaleb Lee

Team Blake: Kyla Jade, Pryor Baird, Austin Giorgio, Spensha Baker, Wilkes, Jaron Strom, Dylan Hartigan, Jaclyn Lovey

The Voice Recap: Three Second Chances, Three Exits

It was the penultimate night of the Battle Rounds on The Voice, and that meant it was time to whittle down the remaining contestants.

As has been the case for much of The Voice Season 14, the episode featured the best and worst of the talent.

There were some steals, some great performances and some that made us wonder why the performer made it through the Blind Auditions.

Let’s break down Night 3 of the Battle Rounds!

Team Blake: Pryor Baird vs. Kaleb Lee –  “Don’t Do Me Like That”

We already knew Pryor was going to win this battle. Pryor has some of the best vocals to grace the stage. There was really no competition here, and it was difficult not to feel bad for Kaleb.

Kaleb decided to dial the volume all the way up, and it definitely changed his vocals for the worse.

Winner: Pryor

Steal: Kaleb to Team Kelly

Team Adam: Mia Boostrom vs. Genesis Diaz – “Because of You”

Who would have thought that Mia would be one of the best performers of the night? Her previous performance was rather mediocre.

But she brought it in a big way for her battle. Mia won a lot of praise for hitting the lower notes and the higher ones without much of a struggle.

That’s not to say Genesis was bad. It was a great rendition, but Mia had the edge throughout.

Winner: Mia

Team Kelly: Justin Kilgore vs. Molly Stevens – “Burning House”

This battle was a polarizing one. On the surface, Justin had the charisma and the stage presence to put him to the front of the pack.

Unfortunately, his vocals were not up there with Molly’s, so we’re surprised Molly did not get taken to one of the other teams.

Winner: Justin

Team Adam: Drew Cole vs. Miya Bass –  “Knocking’ on Heaven’s Door”

This one was a close race throughout. Both competitors gave it their all, and it truly came down to the wire who would live to sing another day.

Winner: Drew Cole

Steal: Miya to Team Alicia

Team Blake: Wilkes vs. Jordan Kirkdorffer – “Nobody to Blame”

Chris Stapleton songs are not easy to cover, and Jordan learned that the hard way. He struggled to keep up with Wilkes, and it was glaringly obvious which one of them had the longer shelf life.

Winner: Wilkes

Team Alicia: Britton Buchanan vs. Jaclyn Lovey – “Thinking Out Loud”

Pitting two of the best performers against each other is not a good idea on paper, but it is when a steal is thrown in for good measure.

Both Britton and Jaclyn showed off their rock-solid vocals, and we are happy both made it through.

Winner: Britton

Steal: Jaclyn to Team Blake

The Voice Recap: Adam Levine Steals Another Singer

Is it just us or has the addition of Kelly Clarkson given The Voice a new lease on life? All shows go through testing times at one point or another.

The last few seasons of The Voice have just been there, with little in the way of exciting performers that make lasting impressions.

But there’s something about the addition of Kelly that’s making the feedback considerably more constructive and beneficial to the performers.

Could it be down to the fact that she came from American Idol and knew what it was like to be on the other side of the stage?

Perhaps.

It is hilarious that ABC tried to poach her for American Idol, which, by the way, has actually been a fun revival.

Let’s break down the next three battles that took place on Tuesday night’s episode of this NBC juggernaut.

Team Kelly: Jorge Eduardo vs. Amber Sauer –  “Starving”

Kelly paired these two because she felt like they showed the most passion for their singing, and that would make for the fairest battle of the entire series.

Some coaches pair two polar opposites together, and it comes across as unfair. Maybe that’s why the process is still very flawed after all these years.

Jorge decided to surprise Kelly by adding a new section into the hit song, and it was needed. It set him above Amber, but if he hadn’t added that part, it would have been too difficult to call who was going to win.

Amber still sang like a pro, but she never managed to upstage Jorge, and that’s why she never got to stay on the team. The biggest shocker was that there was no steal.

Winner: Jorge

Team Adam: Reid Umstattd vs. Davison – “Love On the Brain”

This pair went with the Rihanna hit, and it was a solid, but unspectacular performance. The good thing was that it was fair to put them together.

Because neither of them was better than the other, it made it difficult for Adam to pick which of them to advance to the next stage of the competition.

WinnerReid

Team Alicia: Kelsea Johnson vs. Jordyn Simone –  “Don’t Let Go”

This one was a real head-scratcher. Both performances were poised to be the best of the night, but they both had their fair share of flaws.

They both shouted their way through the performance, and it made it difficult to tell who was singing. It was a disappointing performance.

Winner: Kelsea Johnson

Steal: Jordyn Simone to Team Adam

Despite Adam struggling to find some decent performers at the auditions, he has been building up a solid team through the steals.

The Voice Recap: The Battle Rounds Kick Off!

The Battle Rounds are a go!

On Monday’s episode of The Voice, it was time for the lucky people who made it through the blind auditions to be benchmarked against each other.

In true The Voice fashion, some of the pairings were random and felt very one-sided.

But let’s break down the six battles of the night.

Team Alicia: Sharane Calister vs. Jamai – “Mercy”

Sharan proved in her audition that she was a force to be reckoned with, and she did not disappoint during her battle with Jamal.

Her vocals were solid, and she definitely had the upper hand on Jamal throughout. For Jamal, it became clear that charm can only help you skate by for so long.

Winner: Sharane

Team Kelly: Brynn Cartelli vs. Dylan Hartigan –  “…Ready for It?”

This battle was close as hell. Brynn and Dylan had very different auditions, so there was no way to tell pre-performance which one of them would win.

The battle was high-octane and filled with moments that were memorable. That’s why it was good one was saved, while another got a reprieve.

Winner: Brynn

Steal: Dylan to Team Blake

Team Blake: Kyla Jade  vs. JessLee – “One Last Time”

Giving both of these women an Ariana Grande song to tackle was a downright bizarre move that made us wonder whether Blake even cared about their progression.

Kyla struggled to make it her own, and she was clearly still acting like a backup dancer. JessLee sounded much better, so it was mind-boggling that Kyla advanced.

Winner: Kyla Jade

Team Adam: Rayshun LaMarr vs. Tish Haynes Keys – “Sweet Thing”

If you asked us before the performance, we would have said that Tish would have emerged from the battle as a winner.

But Rayshun appeared on the stage, and his voice had definitely improved somewhat from his previous performance.

It was a tight race to the finish line, and we had no idea who was going to emerge as the winner.

Winner: Rayshun

Steal: Tish to Team Kelly

Team Alicia: Christiana Danielle vs. Shana Halligan –  “Use Somebody”

There was really no competition here. Christiana’s vocal range was something Shana could only dream of hitting.

There would have been outrage if Shana secured the win.

WinnerChristiana

Team Kelly: D.R. King vs. Jackie Foster –  “Sign of the Times”

Things took a wild turn when D.R. King went to battle with Jackie Foster. This was the best battle in quite some time.

D.R. came out smelling of roses while Jackie was solid, but not strong enough to win this round.

Winner: D.R. King

Steal: Jackie to Team Adam

Okay, what did you think of the latest round of battles?

The Voice Recap: Did Kelly Clarkson Make a Mistake?!

The Blind Auditions concluded on Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice, and let’s just say it was a night filled with some of the best performers of the season.

But who garnered the final places?

Let’s break down the five who advanced to the next stage of this long in the tooth competition series.

Genesis Diaz – “Praying”

Kesha is a vocal powerhouse, so anyone covering her songs is generally at an immediate disadvantage. However, this 19-year-old kicked her rendition off with solid footing.

Seriously, it was that good we could have mistaken her for Kesha if we had no idea what Kesha looked like. Adam Levine took a shine to her, and she joined his team.

Maybe Team Adam will have a winner, after all, you guys!

Sharane Calister – “Make It Rain”

This R&B singer burst on to the stage and immediately had chairs turning for her. She knew what she had to do to get through to the next stage, and boy, did she deliver.

Her high vocals were complemented by her big stage presence. She was confident, solid and an all-around enthralling performer. More like this, please!

Team Alicia will be good to Sharane, but song choice will be key for her from here on out.

Dallas Caroline –  “Always On My Mind”

On a night filled with solid performances, Dallas was out of place. The 17-year-old struggled during her Willie Nelson cover. Maybe it was nerves, but we’re sure there were better country singers out there.

A three-chair turn is rare, and it’s difficult to see what the coaches saw in her. It’s doubtful she will make it much further into the process.

Blake has his work cut out with this one.

Jackie Verna – “Peter Pan”

Jackie had a striking voice that could give anyone chills. Her performance was filled with set-pieces that will surely make it one of the most memorable auditions around.

There were a few shaky moments, but that could be attributed to nerves. She was a vocal delight, and just like that, Team Adam has two solid singers!

Amber Sauer – “Shape of You”

Amber made everyone aware she was a fan of Kelly from the get-go, so you can only imagine her surprise when she got Kelly to turn around for her.

The vocals were not fantastic, but there was something there that made her emerge as a likely contender to advance. The troubling thing is, Kelly has such a robust team that Amber could slip through the cracks.

Okay, so the Blind Auditions are over!

What did you think of them?

Sound off below.

The Voice Recap: Is Adam Levine Doomed?

The Blind Auditions continued last night on The Voice, and that meant there was another batch of sub-par performers given the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Granted, most of the dull performances hailed from Team Adam.

Also odd: ABC aired American Idol opposite The Voice. Do we really need these two shows fighting it out for more viewers than the other?

Let’s break down the performances!

Stephanie Skipper – “Piece by Piece”

Stephanie plucked up the courage to perform a Kelly Clarkson number in front of Kelly herself, and it was a robust performance that was different enough from the original to set herself apart.

Kelly did not seem impressed and didn’t turn her chair around. Luckily, Adam snapped the Nashville native up for his team.

Tish Haynes Keys – “Chain of Fools”

Tish opened up about falling pregnant at just 14 years old, and she claimed that it changed her life. Her performance was solid, but not spectacular.

“You just killed Aretha Franklin!” said a shocked Kelly. Alas, she joined Team Adam.

Bransen Ireland – “Tulsa Time”

The first big miss of the night came in the form of Bransen. His vocals were most certainly not up there as the best, but he seemed like a natural fit for Team Blake.

The troubling thing about it was that Blake failed to turn around initially, and it took him some time to get on board with all of it.

Teana Boston – “Unfaithful”

Teana could have fooled us if she hit the stage and said she was a guest performer. She was polished and had a significant stage presence.

She should make it far into the competition, but this show has been known to cut acts in their prime. Maybe Team Kelly will serve her well.

Miya Bass – “Issues”

While Miya Bass may have charisma for days, her song choice was way off for her audition. There was nothing about it that made her seem like a marketable artist.

Adam’s team is beginning to look like the go-to place for the contestants who are just not great at performing.

Jordan Kirkdorffer – “In Case You Didn’t Know”

This was another one of those middle of the road performances. We’re sure there must have been better contestants than Jordan to put through.

We’re sure if he performed a pop song, he would not have joined Team Kelly … or any of the other coaches for that matter.

Shana Halligan – “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”

After a string of downright dreadful performances, Shana appeared and reignited my interest in the show. Her vocals tugged at the heart because they were so beautiful.

Team Alicia is the perfect place for her.

Gary Edwards – “What’s Going On”

Gary was ready to graduate from the church stage to the bigger stages that would propel him to stardom. His voice matched up, and he proved he has what it takes to become a professional singer.

At least Adam finally got someone on his team who could make it far.

Hannah Goebel – “If I Ain’t Got You”

In true The Voice fashion, the show left the best for last. Hannah scaled a lot of vocal heights throughout. We may very well have a finalist right here, you guys!

The Voice Recap: Do We Have a Potential Winner?!

Night Four of the Blind Auditions brought some more excellent performances our way, but is anyone else getting the feeling the auditions are dragging on this time around?

It’s obvious who will make it through, but hey, NBC wants to milk the show to help boost ratings across the network.

The judging panel consisting of Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine has never been stronger than it is now, but which coach will nurture a singer all the way to the winning circle?

It’s not like it matters because we almost never hear from a winner again, but we’re sure it makes for some good talking points during salary negotiations with the coaches.

Let’s break down the five acts who were given the green light to continue their journey with the series.

Spensha Baker – “Blackbird”

Spensha appeared on the stage and wowed the coaches with her vocals that scaled heights we never knew was possible for a first audition.

Her rendition of The Beatles song was up there as one of the best of the season to date. Yes, she snagged a place on Team Blake, and we think that will be the best place for her.

Alexa Cappelli – “I’ve Got the Music in Me”

At first glance, Alexa came across as a dull performer, but she more than made up for it when she belted out the Kiki Dee classic.

She had the sass, charisma and seemed marketable as a young pop star. Kelly was enamored with her and even offered to sing a duet.

So, we think that was a positive performance.

Wilkes –  “One Headlight”

Then there was Wilkes. Wilkes was filled with big promises about how great his voice was, but the overall performance was just okay.

There was nothing about it that made us want to listen to him again. Alas, he joined Team Blake, and we’re not so sure he will last long.

Jaron Strom – “This Magic Moment”

Jaron had the charm and the looks, but he struggled with the vocals during this rendition of this Ben E. King number. He may get the votes from the teenage girls, but aside from that, he didn’t make much of an impression.

He joined Team Blake, but how long will he last?

Terrence Cunningham – “My Girl”

Talk about saving the best for last! Terrence hit all the high notes and changed things up for this The Temptations hit. His vocals were polished, and he is the type of person who will make it to the end.

He joined Team Alicia.

The Voice Recap: The Blind Auditions Heat Up!

The Blind Auditions are a frustrating part of The Voice.

Some people who turn in first-class performances do not get so much as one chair to turn for them, and then there are the sub-par voices that get almost a full house.

It boggles the mind, but it makes for some suspense, we guess.

Night three of The Voice Season 14 auditions found some downright horrible performers advancing to the next stage of the process.

Alas, let’s break down the performances for the people that were lucky enough to make it through!

Christiana Danielle – “Hotline Bling”

Okay, we’re calling it right now: Christiana is going to make it all the way to the end. Her performance of the Drake classic was on point.

Adam turned his seat at the top of the performance, presumably because he knew Christiana was going to be one to watch.

In the end, Christiana joined Team Alicia, and we think that was the best choice.

Brett Hunter – “She’s a Bad Mama Jama”

Brett is a quirky 30-year-old with a rock-solid voice that he knows how to use. It was not up there with the best we’ve witnessed on this long-in-the-tooth NBC reality series, but there was something there worth nurturing.

Joining Team Blake was a good idea because Blake seemed like the best fit for his vocals. Time will tell whether Brett can emerge from the pack.

Jamai – “U Got It Bad”

Jamai’s voice was not very engaging. There was a lot of build-up, and while it seemed like he was going to be the best performer of the night, it was all over the place.

It was shaky, and difficult to follow, but will he be able to battle the nerves in order to move further into the competition?

Mia Boostrom – “PILLOWTALK”

Mia was another one who skated through to the next stage. Her performance of the Zayn Malik number was less than stellar.

In fact, there were better people who were sent home. That said, she had the charisma to keep the presence very much on her throughout.

She joined Team Adam, but she will need to adapt quickly if she has any hope of staying in the process for much longer.

Jackie Foster – “What About Us”

Jackie was the one who we thought was going to take our breath away with a solid performance, but there was nothing special about it.

It was dull, forced, and felt like a half-baked rendition of a solid song.  She went with Team Kelly, but it’s unclear what will become of her.

Jorge Eduardo – “Despacito”

Jorge appeared on stage, conquered and got onto one of the better teams on the show. His voice is on par with some of the best this season thus far.

Kelly should help him move on and become a better competitor.

Austin Giorgio – “How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved By You)”

Another sub-par performance.

“I’m telling you guys, [my performance is] gonna be nuts,” Austin said with a grin, but his vocals were just not there.

He has a lot of work to do if he wants to stay in the process for much longer.

Johnny Bliss – “Preciosa”

Talk about saving the best for last! This dude’s performance was perfect. Whatever most of the others lacked, Johnny had it on display and turned in one of the best renditions of the season.

The Voice Recap: Who Got a Four-Chair Turn?!

Night two of The Voice Season 14 found coaches Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton trying their best to find the next strong competitor who could be nurtured all the way until the end.

It’s surprising that there are still some talented vocalists out there when you consider how long The Voice has been on the air. On top of that, it’s not like much of the winners have any staying power.

Alas, singing competition series tend to go on for dear life.

Who made it through to the next stage of the competition?

Let’s run down the latest auditions!

Davison – “To Love Somebody”

Davison appeared on the stage, and it seemed like he was going to be one of the best of the night. He talked a big game, but his vocals lacked something.

His whole performance was littered with less than stellar vocals, and it showed throughout. Adam must have seen something in him because he got to join his team.

Jaclyn Lovey – “Can’t Help Falling in Love”

This 16-year-old had it all: Solid vocals, charisma and a great stage presence. Her voice was something unheard of for her generation. It would not have been that surprising if she later revealed she was much older.

Alicia seemed to like it, and that’s why the kid landed a spot on her team.

Molly Stevens – “Heavenly Day”

While this was not the best Patty Griffin cover, the overall performance had a lot of good things. Molly struggled growing up as a gay Southern Baptist.

Her story was heartbreaking but filled with hope.  The good thing to come out of all of that heartbreak is that she’s got a great voice and knows how to perform.

She made her way to Team Kelly. We can’t help but think that was the best move for her at this stage.

Dylan Hartigan – “Danny’s Song”

Once upon a time, Dylan was an actor, and after his first performance, we think he should probably stick to acting. His performance was shaky and unengaging.

He joined Team Kelly, but it seems like one of the most bizarre pairings in the history of the series.

Pryor Baird – “I Don’t Need No Doctor”

This episode saved the best for last, and that came in the form of Pryor, a 35-year-old from California. He was a country singer, and Blake loved that.

He snapped Pryor up for his team the moment he heard him open his mouth. He knew it was fate that a country singer would be sent to him before the episode was over.

Okay, what did you think of the latest wave of auditions to rock The Voice?

The Voice Recap: Kelly Clarkson Joins the Panel!

The Voice Season 14 is a go, and that can only mean one thing:

A new wave of singers will engage in a fight to the death with the aim of emerging with a recording contract, some recognition, and hopefully, some staying power.

The judging panel consisted of Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys, and of course, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The latter two are likely going to be with the show until the bitter end at this stage.

Why leave when you’re getting a healthy salary, and some recognition? The show still rates very well, so there’s that.

Let’s break down the first batch of Blind Auditions to see who emerged from the rest, and who is already circling the drain.

Britton Buchanan – “Trouble”

17-year-old, Britton, took to the stage first and his voice was one you would expect to make far into the competition. It was filled with solid moments.

The kid looks like someone you would expect to be in a boyband from the 1990s, but he’s got just enough charisma for an entire band.

He advanced to the next stage. Let’s face it; there would have been shouting from the streets if he was sent packing after that performance.

Rayshun LaMarr – “Don’t Stop Believing”

While Britton had a lot of charisma, Rayshun did not. His performance of the Journey classic was stilted, and not very pleasant to the ears.

It was not a great first attempt, but he advanced to the next stage. Will he be able to get a handle on his voice before it’s too late?

Kyla Jade – “See Saw”

Once upon a time, Kyla was a backup singer for the one and only Jennifer Hudson. Her solo performance on The Voice was something else.

She needs to make a clause in her contract with the show that only allows her to perform Aretha Franklin songs because there was something so compelling about her performance.

She knew what was expected of her and went the extra mile. More like this, please!

Kelsea Johnson –  “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”

This 21-year-old delivered a performance that was full of energy, excitement, and talent. She kept control of her beautiful voice throughout.

In turn, she was rewarded with a spot in the next stage of the competition. Not bad.

Drew Cole – “Sex and Candy ”

Drew is a 25-year-old bartender who “did not move to Los Angeles to be a bartender.” The good thing about him is that his voice is different enough from the others in the competition.

On a show like The Voice, it’s essential to make a lasting impression and Drew accomplished that goal.

D.R. King – “Believer”

D.R. struggled throughout his performance. It was not the most stable and made us wonder whether there was something else going on.

Maybe he could not get on board with the whole being on the show thing, but still, we’re surprised he made it through to the next stage.

Justin Kilgore – “Tomorrow”

Well, this may be our new contender to win the whole thing. He secured a four-chair turn that found the coaches battling to get the kid on their team.

He was polished and seemed to know what sound he was going for. That’s a big positive, and it means the coaches will get an early lead if they get him on board.

Kelly secured Justin, and all was right in the world!
