So… were you reeled in by The Catch Season 1 Episode 1?
On the opening installment of the latest drama from super producer Shonda Rhimes, viewers met Alice Vaughn, a private investigator played by Mireille Enos.
She spends most of her time to tracking down Mr. X, an elusive/mysterious con man who has stolen millions of dollars from two of the biggest clients at Alice’s firm.
The major twist here, however, is that Mr. X ends up being Alice’s own fiancé, Christopher Hall (portrayed Peter Krause).
How does she finally figure this out?
After Christopher ups and leaves her, taking her $ 1.3 million in savings with him on the way out the door.
And so begins the game of cat and mouse that will define The Catch Season 1.
Alice, of course, does not catch her cheating ex-fiance on the premiere, but she does successfully hack into his offshore accounts and steal back her money before the opening hour is over.
This actually symbolizes the major difference (so far, at least) between The Catch and How to Get Away with Murder or Scandal.
There was no stunning cliffhanger to close the pilot. It’s unlikely that the jaws of many viewers were left on the floor.
Does this mean there’s no future for The Catch? Of course not. Look at Grey’s Anatomy. That series does not rely on shocking its fans each week and it’s still doing pretty darn well for itself.
But a lack of a an OMG-worthy moment does make The Catch feel less buzzworthy right now.
