Smoke Dawg Shot Dead in Toronto; Rapper Was 21
We have another tragedy from the world of music.
Two weeks after XXXTentacion was shot dead in Miami, another young rapper has also lost life in violent fashion.
According to Entertainment Tonight Canada, Smoke Dawg was murdered in Toronto this weekend, with graphic images of the artist’s corpse having allegedly made their way on to social media.
Out of respect for the dead, we are not going to share them here.
Smoke Dawg was only 21 years old.
On Saturday morning, a verified police account on Twitter confirmed that one male victim was pronounced dead in the entertainment district of this Canadian rapper.
But it stopped short of identifying the victim as Smoke Dawg.
However, local news outlet CP24 reports that three people – two men and a woman – were shot in broad daylight in the incident, which quickly devolved into chaos outside of the Cube Nightclub.
All three victimr were rushed to the hospital and one was later pronounced dead.
To be clear, once again, authorities have NOT yet confirmed the deceased to be Smoke Dawg.
Drake, though, paid tribute to his fellow Canadian artist via the above photo and message on his Instagram Story today.
“All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating,” the 31-year-old “God’s Plan” star wrote, adding:
“I wish peace would wash over our city.
“So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.”
Smoke Dawg opened for Drake on the latter’s Boy Meets World European tour.
Elsewhere, an artist who goes by the name Mustafa the Poet also took to Twitter to pay his respects.
“The worst day of my life, I somehow keep finding a new worst,” he wrote adding, “Smokey is gone, may our prayers follow him to heaven.”
Police have said that the shooting took place just before 8 p.m. in the popular area outside Cube nightclub and that the “suspects may have fled in black SUV or white car.”
According to local news CP24, “gunfire erupted in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in the city Saturday evening.”
Smoke Dawg, of Trinidadian, Jamaican and Somalian heritage, was part of an up and coming group of rappers called Halal Gang.
The rapper rose to success with hit track Still three years ago, and later collaborated with American hip hop artist French Montana and the UK’s Skepta.

Matt Cappotelli, Former WWE Tough Enough Winner, Dead at 38
Matt Cappotelli, the winner of WWE’s Tough Enough Season 3, lost his brave battle with cancer on Friday morning,
He was 38 years old.
This sad piece of news was confirmed a couple hours ago by Cappotelli’s wife, Lindsay, who wrote in a statement:
“Today my love-my strong, sweet, beautiful love-took his last breath at 3:30 a.m. and went Home to be with Jesus exactly one year after his brain surgery.
“You think you can be prepared for this when you know it’s coming, but you just can’t.
“The only person who’s comfort I want right now is the one who can’t give it to me. I miss him so much. I know where he is now is so much better, but it doesn’t change how much I miss him.”
Cappotelli underwent a second surgery to remove a brain tumor about a year ago, in June of 2017.
This procedure took place a decade after he had another one removed and, as a result, was forced to cut his professional wrestling career short.
Tragically, though, this surgery did not solve the health problem.
In December, Cappotelli was told he had a Grade 4 tumor that was too close to his brain to operate.
He knew his days were numbered after this diagnosis.
Tough Enough, meanwhile, was a reality-type show that the WWE owned and operated.
It pitted a number of aspiring grapplers against each other, with the winner each season earning a WWE contract and a shot at true stardom.
Think American Idol, but for the wrestling world.
After winning Season 3, Cappotelli made multiple appearances on Monday Night Raw and went on work with developing talent in Ohio Valley Wrestling.
However, the Louislve resident retired professionally as a wrestler in 2007 due to these health concerns.
In response to his passing, numerous WWE stars and others who knew Matt well paid him tribute on Twitter.
WWE star Kassius Ohno wrote:
“Crushed to hear about the passing of Matt Cappotelli. He was talented, passionate & possessed a heart of GOLD.
“Everyone should fight as hard as Matt fought. Condolences to his friends, family & the countless others he touched on his journey. Rest In Peace Capp.”
And then there was this from Bill DeMott:
“I’m heart broken with the news of the passing of Matt Cappotelli. He is an inspiring young man that touched so many with his smile, his heart, and his faith.
“My love and prayers go out to Matts wife Lindsay and the family. #TeamCapp #RIPMAtt.”
Cappotelli’s passing comes just about a week after WWE legend Vader also passed away.

Carlos Lopez, Operation Repo Star, Dead from Apparent Suicide
Carlos Lopez Jr., a former reality star best known for his long-running role on TruTV’s Operation Repo, was found dead Sunday night on the balcony of his Los Angeles apartment.
He was 35 years old.
According to TMZ, Lopez’s body was discovered by his roommate around 8 p.m.
The roommate then dialed 911 and paramedics eventually arrived at the residence… but it was too late. Lopez was announced dead at the scene.
The cause of death appears to be a simple, obvious and tragic one:
Lopez was found with what looked to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. In its report, TMZ also claims that he left behind a suicide note.
Lopez was an Army veteran who served 37 months in combat with the 82nd Airborne in the Army, per his IMDB page.
He appeared on Operation Repo from 2012 to 2014 and also enjoyed small roles on television shows such as iCarly and CSI: Cyber.
Most recently, he appeared as a CIA station chief in the Tom Cruise movie, American Made.
Based on a recent Facebook post, it also sounds as if Lopez will have a small part in the upcoming Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee.
Operation Repo, meanwhile, was the English-language version of the original Spanish reality program that aired on Telemundo.
Based out of California’s San Fernando Valley, it chronicles a professional team that conducted repossessions for finance companies; it was canceled in 2014 following six years on the air.
Wrote Carlos’ mother on Facebook not long after this awful news went public:
Our hearts are heavy. Our handsome adventurous and loving son Carlos Jr. Left is for Heaven yesterday and our hearts are so heavy. Keep our family and Carlos’s friend Ronnie Lee in your prayers please.
We’ve lost our eldest son and military warrior.
Lopez’s death comes on the heels of two other suicides in Hollywood.
First, legendary designer Kate Spade took her own life via hanging. She was 55 years old.
Then, beloved chef and author Anthony Bourdain took his own life, also via hanging, while on location in France for his CNN show Parts Unknown.
On Monday morning it was revealed that Pawn Stars star Richard Harrison had died at the age of 77.
Very sad news all around.

Richard Harrison, "Old Man" from Pawn Stars, Dead at 77
Very sad news today out of the television world:
Richard Harrison, the co-owner and founder of Rick Harrison’s Gold & Silver Pawn Shop and a lead cast member on History Channel’s Pawn Stars, passed away on Monday morning.
He was 77 years old.
Harrison was known as “Old Man” to all involved and to all who watched this long-running reality series, and his death was confirmed by his son today in a lengthy and emotional statement.
It reads as follows:
Richard Benjamin ‘The Old Man’ Harrison passed away this morning surrounded by those he loved. He will be tremendously missed by our family, the team at Gold & Silver Pawn and his many fans the world over.
He was my hero and I was fortunate to get a very cool ‘Old Man’ as my dad.
That I got to share him with so many others and they got to see what a great family man he was is something I am grateful to have experienced with him.
He lived a very full life and through the History television show Pawn Stars touched the lives of people all over teaching them the value of loving your family, hard work and humor.
We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and ask that we are provided some privacy at this time.
We do not know Harrison’s cause of death at the moment.
He hadn’t appeared much at all over the course of the past couple years on the aforementioned show, however, hinting at some kind of illness.
Old Man moved to Las Vegas way back in the1980s and opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop with his son, Rick, in 1989.
Producers eventually convinced the father and son to star in a show about their lives and their business, with Old Man cementing himself as a fan favorite ever since Pawn Stars premiered in July of 2009.
Says History Channel executives in a statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Richard ‘The Old Man’ Harrison, a beloved member of the HISTORY and ‘Pawn Stars’ family.
“He will be greatly missed for his wisdom and candor.”
A veteran of the United States Navy, Harrison was beloved for his witty comebacks, tough demeanor… and for his keen eye for picking treasures out of trash.
He had an impressive knowledge of history and often talked about his military background.
The pawn shop itself also shared a message on Facebook on Monday.
This is what it says:
It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Richard Benjamin Harrison (known as ‘The Old Man’ to Pawn Stars fans the world over) this morning. He was surrounded by loving family this past weekend and went peacefully.
The team at Gold & Silver Pawn and the Pawn Stars family is grieving his loss.
He will be remembered as the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather you could have by his family and by fans as the sometimes grumpy (always loving, however), often wisecracking, and voice of absolute reason on the History television show Pawn Stars.
Services are pending and the family appreciates your prayers and kind words.
Pawn Stars is currently in Season 15.
We send our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Richard Harrison.
