Sharon Osbourne Defends Calling Kim Kardashian a "Ho"
Last week, a feud seemed to erupt out of nowhere when Sharon Osbourne called Kim Kardashian a “ho” for reasons that still aren’t entirely clear.
The remark was made in an interview with The Telegraph in response to a question about whether Kim is right to consider herself a feminist.
“Kim says she’s doing everything in the name of feminism, but that’s not feminism!” Osbourne told the outlet.
“Those girls live off their bodies, half of L.A. has been through them and everything they do from the sex tape to the plastic see-through dresses and the gym wear is about sex, not female progress.”
Osbourne continued:
“God bless them. If Kim wants to show off her body, fine. But that’s not feminism, that’s being a ho. And there’s nothing wrong with being a ho, but always remember what you are.”
Osbourne’s comments are so loaded with irony that we’d tip our hat if she were making herself look dumb on purpose, but we’re pretty sure that’s not the case.
The idea of a feminist gatekeeper who gets to decide which women are worthy of the title seems rather … anti-feminist.
But Kim didn’t even bother to point that out when she clapped back at Sharon.
Instead, Ms. Kardashian-West merely pointed out that she never claimed she posts nude photos in the name of feminism:
“I think she said I said a quote about, ‘I post nude photos in the name of feminism.’ Never said that. So I think when people misquote you and then comment, it just sounds ridiculous,” Kim said last week.
“I post nude photos because I like how I look and I feel proud when I’ve lost all this baby weight and I post it because I feel like posting it and I feel powerful.”
No one – including Kim Kardashian – is claiming that Kim Kardashian nudes are the 21st Century’s answer to The Feminine Mystique.
Basically, Osbourne built up a curvaceous straw man, gleefully tore it down, and rightfully got called out.
Naturally, she went into damage control mode and began frantically backpedaling during Monday’s episode of her The View knockoff, The Talk:
“It’s so ridiculous how these things happen,” Sharon said.
“I was doing this interview, and (the reporter) said to me ‘have you heard that Kim Kardashian has come out as a feminist’ … and of course I commented.”
Osbourne continued:
“She asked my opinion and I gave it. It wasn’t rude, it wasn’t … whatever (Kim) does, it’s showing her body. Which shows that she’s a strong grounded woman and she’s not ashamed of her body, she wants to show it, which is her business … people have been doing that since day one … it doesn’t make you a feminist.”
We’re not sure we’re following Sharon’s argument here.
It’s something along the lines of: “Someone told me Kim Kardashian said something she never said, so I responded by calling her a ho. What’s the big deal?”
We can understand how Sharon would be so naive as to go on a misogynistic rant in response to unverified information.
It’s not like the woman’s been famous for decades and wound up involved her own share of messy tabloid dramas.
Seriously, though, we’re beginning to understand why Sharon’s defense of her own comments was so lame.
They’re pretty impossible remarks to justify.

Kim Kardashian Responds to Sharon Osbourne: You Sound Ridiculous!
Sharon Osbourne called Kim Kardashian “just a ho,” blasting Kim for the various topless photos that she’s taken over the years and generally calling her a fake feminist.
Even people who like Sharon Osbourne and have their issues with Kim for one thing or another (and who doesn’t?) got their feathers ruffled over that.
As you can imagine, Kim Kardashian didn’t take that criticism lying down. And now she’s responded. …
As you’ll recall, Sharon Osbourne really went off on the reality star and mobile video game creator.
“Kim says she’s doing everything in the name of feminism, but that’s not feminism!”
Incidentally, both of those statements are false.
“Those girls live off their bodies, half of L.A. has been through them and everything they do from the sex tape to the plastic see-through dresses and the gym wear is about sex, not female progress. And listen: God bless them.”
It’s weird for a woman who just slut-shamed the Kardashians (the “half of L.A. has been through them” line) to then try to talk about “female progress.”
And Sharon doubles down on her controversial stance … and stoops to name-calling.
“If Kim wants to show off her body, fine. But that’s not feminism; that’s being a ho.”
She (correctly) adds that it’s not an insult … but it doesn’t quite sound like she means it.
“And there’s nothing wrong with being a ho, but always remember what you are.”
Ugh.
Taking a break from the Harper’s BAZAAR event, “ICONS by Carine Roitfeld,” Kim Kardashian responded to Sharon Osbourne’s words, telling E! exactly what she thought.
It sounds like Kim is basically embarrassed for Sharon.
“First of all, I think she said I said a quote about, ‘I post nude photos in the name of feminism.’ Never said that. So I think when people misquote you and then comment, it just sounds ridiculous.”
Showing as much or little of your body as you like — controlling how you, as a woman, are viewed — is absolutely feminist.
But yeah, Kim Kardashian might get applauded by fellow celebrities for being empowering in the name of feminism, but that doesn’t mean that Kim herself is waving a feminist flag every time that she climbs a tree with her nip nops out.
“I post nude photos because I like how I look and I feel proud when I’ve lost all this baby weight and I post it because I feel like posting it and I feel powerful.”
And you know what? Good for her.
“But I’ve never been like the ‘free the nipple’ kind of girl.”
That would be, like, Kendall. You see her nips all of the time through the thinnest fabrics.
(Nipples are extra hard to miss when they’re pierced)
“So … if I post a photo, I post it because I like how I look. So she kind of misquoted me on that and I thought it just looked really, like stupid.”
That pretty much sums it up.
We can’t help but wonder if part of what was weighing on Sharon Osbourne’s mind wasn’t the overwhelming burden of Kim Kardashian’s nudity.
We also think that it was more than just Sharon Osbourne happening to be old and perhaps struggling to understand modern feminism.
When Sharon was younger, feminism wasn’t nearly as far along. Remember that there was a time when women couldn’t hold certain jobs or could simply be banned from restaurants during certain hours or forbidden from opening their own bank accounts.
There are many battles that feminism wages for gender equality. It’s important to remember that feminism does have some triumphs in its pocket.
But we wonder if Sharon Osbourne was thinking about what almost made her divorce Ozzy Osbourne before the two reconciled.
Ozzy Osbourne cheated on Sharon — not just with one woman, but with at least six.
It could be that Sharon Osbourne wasn’t feeling very sex positive because, so recently, sex was a threat to her marriage.
We hate to sound like armchair psychologists or whatever, psychoanalyzing Sharon, but this sounds like it could be a strong factor behind her thinking.
Baring skin doesn’t make you a “ho,” it just makes you a person whose meat prison is covered with skin that you decided to show.
Being a “ho,” whether you’re merely promiscuous or genuinely a sex worker, is also not a bad thing. It’s your body and you can do what you like with it.
There are many valid criticisms of Kim Kardashian.
From cultural appropriation to siding with people who are in the wrong to using underhanded tactics while feuding, Kim Kardashian has been accused of plenty. And that’s okay to talk about.
We can even question whether Kim is a good feminist or a bad feminist.
But, while not everyone who bares all has feminist intentions, there’s nothing inherently non-feminist about a woman showing off her body.
We do love Sharon Osbourne. We hope that she’ll come to understand this complicated issue.

Sharon Osbourne: Kim Kardashian is Just a Ho!
Do you ever talk to someone who comes across as trying their best to be a progressive person, but there’s something or another that they just can’t wrap their minds around?
That seems to be the case for Sharon Osbourne, whom we genuinely adore but … we have to admit that what she had to say about Kim Kardashian had us cringing.
Sharon Osbourne has taken aim at Kim Kardashian’s fondness for showing off her body.
At its heart, feminism — like any good social cause — is simple: a quest for gender equality.
That means opposing the patriarchal social values that have infested many cultures for millennia.
Just as LGBT rights and the push for racial equality, the goal is simple and you’d think that it would be almost universal.
Instead, somehow the label of “feminist” is controversial, thanks to an aggressive campaign of misinformation that tends to portray feminists in a certain way.
Even within feminism, there are — of course — many approaches to what is and is not feminist or what does and does not make a good feminist.
Some embrace the empowering concept of femininity.
Others find gender role associations and even gender itself to be limiting.
One factor that’s as divisive within feminism circles as it is everywhere else is sexuality.
And that’s where Sharon Osbourne has a beef with Kim Kardashian.
In a Telegraph interview, Sharon Osbourne attacks Kim Kardashian’s feminist credentials.
“Kim says she’s doing everything in the name of feminism, but that’s not feminism!”
Feminism’s goals may be simple, but a lot of people have very strong disagreements about the right way to get there.
“Those girls live off their bodies, half of L.A. has been through them and everything they do from the sex tape to the plastic see-through dresses and the gym wear is about sex, not female progress.”
Sharon doesn’t seem to have a personal dislike for the Kardashians, though.
“And listen: God bless them.”
But Sharon Osbourne still doubles down on slut-shaming Kim Kardashian.
“If Kim wants to show off her body, fine. But that’s not feminism, that’s being a ho.”
Except that a statement like if Kim wants to show off her body, fine is an inherently feminist statement.
“And there’s nothing wrong with being a ho, but always remember what you are.”
The thing is that Kim Kardashian isn’t even especially promiscuous. These days, she’s a married mom.
Does the way that people dress really define them to the point where a slang word for a sex worker applies to a monogamous mother?
We don’t think so.
Despite all of that, Sharon Osbourne’s definition of feminism is pretty accurate:
“For me, feminist is someone who advocates for the civil and social rights and liberties of all people, regardless of their gender.”
Yep.
“Anyone who believes that women should have the same choices and opportunities as men when it comes to education and employment, their bodies and their lifestyles.”
She even mentions bodies and lifestyles … as if everything that she’d said about Kim Kardashian had been said by someone else. In a dream.
“Of course I want these things! I’m all about empowering and uplifting women.”
Then maybe don’t tear them down for how much skin they show in photos?
“Obviously, there are things about me that people might say make me a feminist.”
Yes. It literally does. That’s how definitions work.
“I work hard, I make my own money, I’m comfortable and confident in my own skin, and I encourage women to be open and honest about their sexuality, and to embrace their beauty and their bodies.”
Part of embracing their beauty and their bodies might mean sharing photos of their flesh prisons without being bashful about it.
Nudity can be a feminist statement, though it doesn’t have to be.
Normalizing female toplessness can absolutely be a feminist statement, since so many people and places (lookin’ at you, Instagram) seem terrified of a woman’s nipples.
“But why do we have to put labels on things?”
Because labels are helpful, Sharon.
“You’re Republican, you’re Democrat, you’re bisexual, you’re plus-size, you’re poor, you’re a criminal, you’re a mother, you’re a feminist. I’m a human being, and I have thoughts, feelings and opinions about a lot of different things.”
In the past, Sharon has clarified that she is a feminist at heart but that she isn’t fond of labels. To each their own, we guess.
Kim Kardashian is a feminist. Whether or not she’s a good feminist is up for debate.
But really none of that has to do with the fact that the world has seen her badonkadonk.
It’s interesting that Sharon should say this, because Ozzy Osbourne had a whole bunch of mistresses (at least six) but Sharon is staying with him.
That’s right — even though Sharon initially split from Ozzy when she found out that he had been cheating on her, they reconciled and even renewed their vows earlier this year.
Some would say that this doesn’t make her a good feminist.
Honestly, what we think is that maybe Sharon is too set in her ways to understand how liberating some women find it to show off their bodies in ways that they control.
As we said, Kim Kardashian might make money off her body and she might have some very problematic elements that make her a less-than-perfect feminist, but she’s a feminist.

Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: BACK TOGETHER, Says Daughter Kelly!
Really, Osbournes? After all that fuss?
Last month, we saw one of Hollywood"s most enduring relationships come to an end when Sharon Osbourne announced she was leaving Ozzy Osbourne after 33 years of marriage.
Ozzy was reportedly having an affair with hairstylist Michelle Pugh, and Sharon admitted throwing the rocker out of the house after making the discovery.
Sharon wasn"t shy about notifying the public, either.
Just a couple days after the news broke, Sharon re-assumed her hosting duties on The Talk, appearing at the table sipping a tall glass of lemonade.
For those with short attention spans, lemonade is the drink of choice by scorned women everywhere, made popular by fellow cheatee, Beyonce, through her latest album, "Lemonade."
But now, it seems Sharon"s changing her tune.
Daughter Kelly Osbourne tells The Insider that her parents are now together.
"My mom and dad are together right now," Kelly said, in a tone suggesting, DUH.
She explained that no woman [expletive, expletive] was going to ruin her family, because somehow all the blame should be placed on the mistress, and not the cheater?
"I will never not be good with my dad," she said.
"That does not mean that I think what he did wasn"t f**king stupid, but that"s between him and I. I"m a daddy"s girl. I love my dad."
Fans were shocked at the breakup news, most notably because Sharon has stuck with Ozzy throughout many years of god-awful behavior – cheating included.
So why would she dump him now?
Well, a number of skeptics surmise that the entire blowup was nothing but a PR stunt executed just in time to gain publicity before Ozzy"s world tour.
It all makes sense now.
Lest we forget Sharon was the original Kris Jenner, and the modern day version of PT Barnum.
