Jennifer Aniston: Cozying Up to The Weeknd?

Now that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are over, people are wondering what’s next for the beloved actress. An amicable split doesn’t make you any less single.

But now — in a photo snapped at Ellen DeGeneres’ birthday celebration — Aniston has been spotted cozying up to The Weeknd.

Are they the new couple to watch? And is this going to create tensions with her friend, Selena Gomez?

Over Valentine’s Day weekend — weekend with that third “E” and without a definite article — Ellen DeGeneres, the beacon of daytime delight, celebrated her birthday.

(Ellen’s birthday is actually January 26th, but you only turn 60 once, so you find a time for your star-studded party when everybody can make it)

If you need an example of exactly how star-studded Ellen’s party was, the photo of Jennifer Aniston and The Weeknd looking close and comfy with each other isn’t a selfie.

It was snapped by Oprah Winfrey.

To the point where some wonder if the newly single Jennifer Aniston is giving The Weeknd’s ex, Selena Gomez, cause for jealousy or resentment.

Jennifer Aniston and Selena are friends, and it’s customary for friends to not poach each other’s exes.

Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls referred to that as “the rules of feminism.” Which is a joke, but still.

Are these two violating friendship rules … or are they just comfortable around each other because they already knew each other through Selena?

We’d caution people to be, well, cautious about reading too much into a single photograph like this.

Right now, in the wake of Jennifer Aniston’s split from Justin Theroux, it’s easy to point to any man who might wander into her orbit and identify him as her next suitor.

And of course it’s tempting to say that she’s found a new man — or boy toy (at 49, she is 21 years older than the 28-year-old singer).

Jennifer Aniston is beautiful and famous and she deserves happiness.

But if we’re very honest with ourselves … she and the Weeknd are standing next to each other at a party and then pose for a photograph at a friend’s behest.

Even if Jennifer Aniston and The Weeknd were canoodling, would that really be a slight against Selena?

Selena and The Weeknd have been over for a while now.

We know that in the unending nightmare of the last year or so, every day seems to last a month but every week somehow goes by in about an hour. None of us can explain it but we all feel it.

But Selena and The Weeknd split last fall. It’s 2018 and spring begins in less than a month.

Besides, Selena is busy boinking the Biebs, and probably doesn’t give a flying flip about which friends help themselves to her leftovers.

You can say “Girl Code” all you want, but none of us know what conversations happen behind the scenes.

But you know what?

Jennifer Aniston is one of those people who’s very conscious of the things that get said about her, true or not.

Maybe she’s looking for her next love. Maybe she’s looking for a hookup. Or maybe, just maybe, she’s going to be single for a while. By choice.

And she has zero obligation to tell anyone what she’s up to. That is totally her business.

In the mean time, the rest of the world can just keep on guessing.

Selena Gomez: I Didn"t Ditch The Weeknd for Justin Bieber! Honest!

When news broke that Selena Gomez and The Weeknd had split, none of us could help but think of how Selena had reunited with Justin Bieber so recently.

Had old Jelena flames rekindled?

Apparently it was The Weeknd who ended things, as hard as that may be to believe. What drove him to do it?

Remember this photo?

Back in September, Selena Gomez shared this rare pic with The Weeknd.

We now know, of course, that one of the reasons for the rarity of these photos is that Selena had spent basically her entire summer receiving and then recovering from a kidney transplant.

If you look at the dynamic of that snapshot, though, Selena Gomez looks engaged — she’s posting for the photo, after all.

The Weeknd looks like he’s a little checked out at the moment.

(Or, more likely, paying attention to someone or something out)

This photo turns out to be weirdly telling.

As apparently The Weeknd is the one who pulled the plug on their relationship … and, if you look at that photo again, that looks like the face of a man who’s not sure that he wants to be there.

TMZ reports that, per multiple sources, The Weeknd initiated the breakup.

And, honestly … we have very complicated feelings about this.

It seems that not only did The Weeknd end things, but it had nothing to do with the Biebs.

Apparently, the relationship between Selena and The Weeknd has been “fizzling out” since this summer.

They also apparently hadn’t seen each other very much (not enough, anyway) because The Weeknd had his busy touring schedule and Selena has had her busy shooting schedule.

So many celebrity breakups happen because, well, a lot of celebrity jobs require extensive travel and time apart.

Reportedly, another factor in The Weeknd’s decision was that he’d enjoyed being single …

(Of course he did. Some would question the point of being a young celebrity, regardless of gender, if you can’t enjoy the, um, perks)

… And felt “unfairly” tied down so Selena.

Oh? As for how that breakup went down?

The Weeknd apparently called Selena a few weeks ago and told her that it wasn’t working out and that, you know, they were over.

Here’s why we have complicated feelings about this.

First of all: who the hell breaks up a serious relationship over the phone?

That is barely better than a text message breakup.

But you know, we don’t have all of the information, and it might have been best that way. So, sure, let’s let that slide.

Instead, we’ll take a nice hard look at the timing of all of this.

When did their relationship start to lose its passion?

Over the summer.

So … right around the time when Selena Gomez got her kidney transplant.

Remember, Selena suffered kidney failure back in May and was rushed to the hospital as a result. It was all very hush-hush at the time.

And then, in June, Selena underwent her kidney transplant, courtesy of her friend, Francia Raisa.

Summer began in June, so … this seems to be saying that The Weeknd just lost interest because Selena was on bedrest after, you know, getting organs removed and implanted so that she wouldn’t die.

So that’s uncomfortable. We’re not saying that you’re not allowed to break up with someone who’s sick, but the timing of his disinterest really rubs us the wrong way.

We get that The Weeknd wanted to enjoy the single life and all of its perks, but Selena Gomez isn’t just one of the greatest singers in human history …

(Though she is definitely that)

… She’s also one of the most gorgeous women in the planet. So, you know, let’s play him a sad song on the world’s smallest violin.

But, hey — it’s his loss.

We wonder what this means for Jelena, though.

Some fans say good riddance to Justin Bieber, who’s neither as attractive as he once was nor as likable.

He may claim to have left his bad behavior and alleged life-threatening substance abuse problems behind him, but suffice it to say that it’ll take a little more convincing before Justin wins most people over.

And Selena already gave him a few of her best years. Few of her fans want to see her fall back into old habits.

That said, attraction towards exes doesn’t always go away. Justin Bieber offering his friendship to support Selena could develop into something else.

Selena Gomez Splits from The Weeknd; Let the Jelena Chatter Begin!

One relationship is over for Selena Gomez.

But will another soon begin…

… again?

Multiple outlets have confirmed that Gomez has split from The Weeknd, her boyfriend of about 10 months, paving the way for inevitable Justin Bieber reconciliation rumors to get started in earnest.

Selena and The Weeknd were spotted making out on the streets of Los Angeles in January, going public with a romance that had been bantered about online for a few weeks.

Just a few weeks ago, they were again seen swapping spit on the red carpet of a Harper’s Bazaar-sponsored event in New York City, with a source telling Us Weekly at the time:

“They’re rock solid and very happy together.”

So… what happened since then to cause a break up?

Justin Bieber apparently happened.

Gomez and Bieber, who dated for the first time in 2011 and have split/gotten back together approximately 279 times since then, have been spending more and more time together of late.

It started when the stars hung out at Selena’s house last Sunday… until midnight or so, sources said.

Fast forward a few days to this past weekend and Selena and Justin didn’t just chill once more — they got breakfast together!

And attended church services together!

We’re talking about some rather intimate experiences.

According to insiders, Bieber learned of Selena’s semi-recent kidney transplant and got back into contact with his ex.

He was concerned about her well-being and, considering how serious her condition apparently became, he had good reason to be.

Could this scare have triggered something inside of Bieber?

Might he have come close to losing Gomez forever, realized that he truly loved her and is now doing all he can to get back into her good graces?

It seems very possible, doesn’t it?

Millions of fans around the country are likely praying for this to be the case.

But not anyone in Selena’s family. They are doing the opposite of praying for a rekindled romance. 

“Justin is a vile human and will never be accepted by us,” an unnamed loved one told TMZ amidst talk that these two really may become lovers again.

He or she added:

“As long as she is even speaking to him in any way, it is not only disrespectful to everyone around her, it is disrespectful to herself.”

Ouch! How does this person really feel, we wonder?

And what will folks say when the next version of Jelena is confirmed?

Because you know it’s coming, right?

Selena Gomez Shares Rare Pic With the Weeknd

Selena Gomez hasn’t been what you’d call secretive about her romance with The Weeknd, but it looks like she’s been taking her cues from Taylor Swift’s lowkey relationship with Joe Alwyn.

We all know that Selena and The Weeknd are dating, but we don’t see their everyday activities or feel like we’re their third wheel, no matter how many of Selena’s social media accounts we follow. (All of them, to be clear)

So this pic that Selena shared of the two of them out on a dinner date is a rare item.

Selena and The Weeknd went Instagram official back in April, but even on that photo-sharing site, Selena’s been very cautious to avoid over-sharing.

It’s not that Selena’s afraid or shy — she’s a singer and actress who’s up front about her battle with lupus and who downs shots of ginger on a daily basis, even though most people would find that agonizing.

(But, hey, when you’ve gone through chemo to treat your life-threatening condition, what’s a little shot of ginger? She’s such a badass and we love her)

They both work in the entertainment industry — and, very specifically, in music — so they have plenty in common.

Also, the The Weeknd is relatively lowkey as far as men in music go, which is perfect for Selena, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

First, here’s the pic:

It’s not exactly an informative photo, but it’s nice to see.

The Weeknd (his real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, so we don’t think that Selena calls him “The” on their dates, folks) is staring off, either at something or perhaps he’s just lost in thought.

We’ve all been there, right?

We’re not sure who actually took this photo, but Selena’s contentedly looking into the camera. Even though the light washes her out, she decided to share the snap.

And we’re glad that she did.

Selena’s appeal is obvious.

She’s overpoweringly gorgeous (The Weeknd is a lucky dude), she’s a talented actress, and she’s produces some of the greatest music in the history of the world.

(Seriously — with “Naturally,” humanity has peaked, musically speaking. I literally cannot imagine a better song)

Part of what we imagine is a majorly appealing point about The Weeknd for Selena is that, despite his fame, he has this laid back image.

For years, Selena Gomez was dating Justin Bieber — a guy notorious for being a hothead and for incident after incident of terrible behavior.

And mind you, that was before Justin Bieber’s penis was hanging out left and right.

The Weeknd isn’t a random non-celebrity who’d experience culture shock upon being catapulted to stardom by dating Selena.

But he’s also never come across as an egomaniacal douchebag.

He sounds like a perfect fit.

Just like with Selena Gomez’s bff Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, the key the happiness for this couple seems to be a relative amount of privacy.

Selena’s not, like, donning disguises Atomic Blonde style, but Selena isn’t nearly as controversial as her bestie. She’s even spoken about him occasionally in interviews.

Recently, Selena Gomez said that The Weeknd is more like her best friend, which is great but also sad.

It’s great because that’s the sign of a healthy relationship.

It’s sad because you can’t help but get the impression that Selena may not have had that with any past relationships.

That girl deserves the world.

Selena Gomez Thinks The Weeknd Is Cheating On Her, Source Claims

It’s been eight months since we first learned that Selena Gomez is dating The Weeknd, but throughout that time, it’s been difficult to pin down how serious (or not serious) these two are as a couple.

Part of the reason, of course, is that both parties have worked hard to keep the details of their relationship out of the headlines.

In all likelihood, Selena learned some valuable lessons about the importance of privacy during her lengthy on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber.

Whatever the case, she and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) have done an admirable job of keeping fans guessing.

One week, Selena and The Weeknd are Instagram official.

The next, Gomez is describing Tesfaye as “her best friend.”

It’s enough to drive nosy fans like us crazy.

Not surprisingly, there are many theories as to why The Welena (Hey, not all couple nicknames can be winners.) is so secretive about their romance.

The latest is that the couple is currently on the rocks and is trying to avoid the tabloid scrutiny that usually accompanies a high-profile breakup.

According to Life and Style, there are too main issues driving Gomez and Tesfaye apart.

One is that their careers force them to spend long stretches of time in separate parts of the world.

The other is that Selena is constantly concerned Abel is being unfaithful.

“The distance isn’t good for Selena and Abel,” a source close to the couple tells L&S.

“She has trust issues and hates being apart from him.”

The distance between the singers has apparently resulted in rampant mistrust and jealousy issues.

“Whenever Abel’s phone rings or he gets a text, Selena looks over his shoulder to see who it is. It drives him crazy,” adds the source.

“They’re really on the rocks right now.”

Yes, it sounds as though Selena might be headed for another emotionally draining split.

Fortunately, she seemed to be in a more stable headspace these days than when she was constantly breaking up with Bieber.

And since she and The Weeknd have kept so much of their relationship from public view, fans and the tabloid media likely won’t be as obsessive about learning every detail of the breakup.

At least we hope that’s the case for Selena’s sake.

It’s hard enough going through a breakup without having to read about it in the Enquirer.

Selena Gomez: The Weeknd is More Like My Best Friend!

Selena Gomez is magical, lyrical, and beautiful.

While she’s created some of the best music that humanity has ever or will ever produce, Selena Gomez’s life as a celebrity hasn’t been all easy all of that time. From her previously unlucky love life to her chronic battle with lupus, Selena’s had more than her share of crappy times.

These days, she’s doing so much better — and The Weeknd is a big part of that.

Selena Gomez tells InStyle a lot about how she’s doing these days, and that includes talking about her relationship.

Maybe the most important part of this whole piece is that she doesn’t put all of her proverbial eggs in one basket — by which we mean that her happiness isn’t entirely contingent upon her love life.

“I don’t depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It’s really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy.”

Remember, Selena Gomez is a role model for a lot of young women.

So many old-fashioned stories and even a lot of modern media reinforces the idea that men are defined by their achievements and women are defined by their relationships.

It’s a pernicious element within our culture.

Every time that a celebrity speaks out about there being many sources of her own happiness and how important it is that her whole life doesn’t revolve around a man, that’s a good thing.

It puts another much-needed crack in that patriarchal nonsense that’s infested our culture for millennia.

But Selena talks about how she didn’t always feel so independent and powerful:

“I’ve wanted to be in a strong head space for years, and I really wasn’t. Before, I was so young and easily influenced, and I’d feel insecure.”

Selena is a great actress, she’s gorgeous, she’s well-spoken … and, as we’ve mentioned, her music is positively transcendent in its quality. 

So when we say that all sorts of people feel insecure, we literally mean all sorts.

Selena does talk about what she values in a man — and, specifically, The Weeknd.

“You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I’m lucky because he’s more of a best friend than anything else.”

That’s so good, on multiple levels. 

Adding to you rather than completing you is a great way of correcting outdated ways of talking about love.

And people talk all of the time about “marrying their best friend,” but that’s something to look for when you’re dating, too.

That means someone who will support you and someone with whom you have a lot in common.

If you’re in a serious relationship, anyway.

Selena Gomez has accumulated a lot of wisdom in her 25 years.

(She just had her birthday on July 22nd)

She talks about her age a little.

“I kind of wish numbers didn’t exist sometimes, because I feel like I’m 15 some days, and then other days I wake up and I’m 40.”

That is the most relatable thing that a celebrity has said in ages.

Maybe not everyone can relate, but I certainly can.

Selena talks about time itself and how frightening change can be:

“It’s so weird, how one year can change everything. Last year I canceled my tour and went away for 90 days, and it was the best thing that I ever could’ve done. I had no phone, nothing, and I was scared.”

I don’t even check the mail without my phone in my pocket, so I can imagine so.

Selena’s glad that she did it, though:

“But it was amazing, and I learned a lot. Everything I cared about, I stopped caring about. I came out, and it felt like, ‘OK, I can only go forward."”

That’s sort of a detox from your life, right?

My closest version of that would be, like, taking a break from most TV shows because life has become overwhelming, and then seeing which ones I’m eager to go back to and which ones I can just drop.

Selena’s version is more extreme.

She also has a strategy for her ongoing wellness:

“I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are. But I’m in a really, really healthy place.”

That’s so good to hear.

As for what Selena’s 90 days were like?

“I was in the countryside and never did my hair; I took part in equine therapy, which is so beautiful. And it was hard, obviously.”

We’d imagine so, yeah.

“But I knew what my heart was saying, and I thought, ‘OK, I think this has helped me become stronger for other people."”

Not that she wasn’t becoming stronger for herself, of course.

“When I came out, I was asked to go to the American Music Awards, and everyone around me was like, ‘Do whatever makes you comfortable."”

That’s good advice.

Sometimes you need to take it easy.

But that’s not the route that Selena chose — for the sake of her fans.

“I didn’t want my fans to have a negative view of taking care of yourself, so I just went in head-on, and I’ll tell you, the first time stepping on that carpet was so overwhelming. I felt like my back was sweating.”

Self-care is so important.

And Selena Gomez, who toughs things out for all of the right reasons, is wonderful.

You know, talk about Selena Gomez having to cancel her tour for her well-being — remember, folks, she has lupus and various side effects that come from it and from the agonizing chemo used to treat it — really illustrates how absurd it is that Justin Bieber canceled his tour for “exhaustion.”

We know that Justin seems to think that his faith calls him to quit touring or whatever, but “exhaustion” is such a lame excuse to give to his disappointed fans.

Not to mention to the hundreds of workers who were just totally screwed over by his announcement.

Selena Gomez downs shots of concentrated ginger as casually as the rest of us drink shots of whiskey, because she’s a total badass.

(Though we guess that, after chemo, ginger shots might be a relative breeze)

What wondrous things did humanity ever do to deserve Selena?
