Adele tried to be her fun-loving self at the outset of her concert on Sunday in Antwerp, Belgium.
She really did.
The singer, who recently compared Beyonce to Jesus Christ and made fun of herself for forgetting her own lyrics, opened her latest show by thanking everyone in attendance for coming.
She sounded excited over the three days she would be spending in town, but then she grew serious when a very serious topic had to be addressed:
The Orlando nightclub shooting over the weekend.
As you likely know by now, it took place at a gay bar called Pure and it resulted in over 50 patrons being shot and killed.
The culprit, a 29-year old U.S. citizen named Omar Mateen, was killed in a standoff with police after several hours and after taking responsibility for the attack on behalf of ISIS.
Adele said she was dedicating the full two-hour concert to the shooting victims.
"I would like to start tonight by dedicating this entire show to everybody in Orlando at Pulse nightclub," she explains. "The LGBTQIA community … they"re like my soulmates since I was really young, so I"m really moved by it."
With these words, the beloved singer broke down a bit.
But she was able to pick herself up a bit and make a joke:
“I don’t know why I’m crying already, because most of this tonight is pretty miserable because my songs are fucking miserable.
"I do have two songs that sound happy, but they’re not.”
We feel ya, Adele. None of us have any idea how to say or do or think at the moment.
