Stephen Belafonte to Mel B: Pay Me, Woman!
Stephen Belafonte has issued a very clear response to Melanie Brown in court.
And it’s rather obvious that the singer’s estranged husband is not taking any responsibility for what Brown claimed he did to her.
On March 20, the former Spice Girls member filed to divorce Belafonte after nearly a decade of marriage.
A few days later, TMZ obtained legal documents also filed by Brown in a request for a judge to grant her a restraining order against her soon-to-be-ex husband.
These papers revealed a lengthy list of allegations… very, very, very, VERY disturbing allegations, we should say.
For example:
Brown says Belafonte has punched, shoved and choked her on numerous occasions.
Brown says Belafonte secretly recorded the couple having intimate relations and threatened to ruin his wife’s career by releasing these sex tapes if she ever defied him.
Brown says Belafonte forced her to have threesomes.
Brown says Belafonte got their nanny pregnant and paid for her abortion with Brown’s money.
We’re talking truly horrible stuff here.
Why didn’t Brown simply end her marriage sooner? Why didn’t she leave Belafonte at the first sign of this kind of trouble?
Because she feared Belafonte would kill her and anyone else who knew about his abuse.
The artist has no spoken out directly to address these charges; and neither has Belafonte.
But the 41-year old film producer filed an official response to Brown’s divorce petition yesterday, stating in the reply that he’s seeking spousal support.
Not exactly the actions of a man who thinks he did anything wrong, huh?
Belafonte has not set a figure yet for the support he thinks he’s entitled to, although he’s also asking Brown to pay for his attorney fees.
In her divorce filing, Brown requested terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support.
The stars are also in dispute over their separation date: Belafonte says it was March 1, 2017. Mel B says it took place on December 28, 2016.
This may come into play when it comes time to divide up shared property.
The singer and television personality was given a temporary restraining order Monday by a judge following her public claims against Belafonte, alleging that he beat, threatened and exploited her throughout their nearly 10-year marriage.
She specifically cited the following image in her papers, saying this bruise was the result of a Belafonte beating…
… but that Belafonte made her claim on social media that she took a tumble while wearing heels.
The couple’s marriage first came under scrutiny in late 2014 after the singer was hospitalized for two days and then appeared three days later on the finale of the U.K. version of The X Factor.
It was apparent at the time that she had suffered injuries of some kind.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Talk, Sharon Osbourne remembered working with Brown on the program.
“Three years ago, in the final two days of X Factor, she didn’t make the first day and she was in the hospital,” Osbourne said on air, adding:
“And it was reported in all the papers that said ‘allegedly’ she’s been beaten by her husband. And she came back for the final day and she had a black eye and bruising everywhere, but she made the final.”
Belafonte is also asking for asking for joint legal custody of the one child they have together.
For understandable reasons, Brown is demanding sole legal and physical custody,

Have you been keeping up with the nightmare scandal that is the divorce between Mel B and Stephen Belafonte?
If not, let’s sum it up real quick: the entire thing is the biggest, saddest mess you ever saw.
Mel B, also known as Melanie Brown of Spice Girls fame, married film producer Stephen Belafonte nearly ten years ago, but a couple of weeks ago she filed for divorce.
In her legal documents, Mel B requested joint custody of the couple’s five-year-old daughter, and she wants to block Stephen from receiving any spousal support from her.
Just from those papers, we didn’t get a clear understanding of she decided to file for divorce. But when she filed for a restraining order against her estranged husband, things made a little more sense.
In the documents for the restraining order, Mel B made all sorts of horrifying claims — she said that Stephen physically abused her on multiple occasions throughout their marriage.
She also said he tried to blackmail her with secretly recorded sex tapes, and that he even got their nanny pregnant, then took her money to pay for the abortion.
She even made some particularly twisted claims about her 2014 overdose, explaining that she took an entire bottle of aspirin and then Stephen locked her in their bedroom and refused to let her call for help.
Mel B also shared a photo of the alleged abuse:
So that’s all completely and totally terrifying, right?
But wait until you hear the statement Stephen made through his lawyers.
“What matters most to Mr. Belafonte is the safety and well-being of his daughters and step-daughters,” the statement began. “It’s a shame that Ms. brown elected not to proceed in a respectful and amicable fashion in this very private matter.”
“In due course, Mr. Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms. Brown, which allegations he vehemently denies.”
His lawyers go on to say that “When the Court determines the truth, it will become cleat that this entire charade was nothing more than a smear campaign intended to cover up Ms. Brown’s own conduct during the marriage in light of her current involvement with a family television show.”
According to these people, Mel B is also trying to “unfairly gain leverage both financially and with respect to custody of the children,” even though she specifically requested joint custody.
“When the degree to which Ms. Brown has gone to create a false depiction of her marriage to Mr. Belafonte is uncovered, real victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse will be understandably offended, angry and upset.”
“Mr. Belafonte is confident that the truth will come out when he has his day in court at which time he looks forward to being reunited with his children.”
It seems important to note at this point that all the way back in 2014, there were widespread rumors that Stephen was abusive to Mel B.
The rumors began when she showed up to film X Factor with cuts and bruises on her face and arms, and they were bad enough that she felt the need to make a statement about how “my hubby would never lay a hand on me.”
It’s also worth pointing out that Stephen was convicted of domestic violence against a girlfriend in 2003.
Obviously we can’t say who’s telling the truth here — we weren’t there, after all — but let’s hope this thing gets handled quickly, if only for the sake of their little girl.
What a mess.

New, frightening details have emerged regarding the marriage between Melanie Brown and Stephen Belafonte.
As previously reported, the reality show judge split from her husband of nearly 10 years late last month, with a follow-up report shedding very scary light on what transpired between Brown and Belafonte throughout their relationship.
According to legal documents that accompanied a restraining order request, Belafonte abused and assaulted Brown at various points in their marriage.
The allegations are extremely disturbing.
Brown details multiple occasions on which Belafonte either chokes her, punches her in the face or slams her on to the ground.
She says he secretly recorded sexual trysts between the couple and then used these tapes as blackmail, forcing Brown to have threesomes with him and another woman.
The X Factor panelist also claims Belafonte got the couple’s nanny pregnant and then used Brown’s money to get her an abortion.
After Brown took an entire bottle of Aspirin on 2014, in order to deal with overwhelming exhaustion, Belafonte allegedly locked her in the bedroom and wouldn’t let her call paramedics to come help.
Stephen “threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way,” Brown wrote in her request to the judge, adding that Belafonte said he would “take my kids from me” if she tried to leave.
Here’s a look at a bruise Brown alleges was caused by a Stephen Belafonte assault.
The ex-Spice Girl claims her then-husband forced her to Tweet the photo and tell followers that she injured herself by running in Christian Louboutin heels.
Now, TMZ has shared an update to this scary story.
Multiple insiders have told the celebrity gossip website that Brown confessed to friends and family members that Belafonte often brutally attacked her.
These loved ones offered to call the authorities on Brown’s behalf, but she begged them to remain silent because she legitimately feared for her life.
She also thought that anyone who blew the whistle on Belafonte would be in grave danger, as well.
Brown worked on both The X Factor and America’s Got Talent over the years, in Great Britain and in America.
TMZ writes that her colleagues bore witness to Belafonte’s abuse at times, yet no one ever mentioned this domestic violence to the police.
Elsewhere, Brown assets that Belafonte owns a handgun.
ATF agents actually raided his Hollywood Hills home on Friday night to determine if this allegation were true because he’s not permitted to possess either a firearm or any ammunition after being convicted of domestic violence (against another woman) in 2003.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that these agents did not find a gun.
However, they did come across an empty shell casing and a bullet that was out of the casing.
The U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles is reviewing the case for possible prosecution.
If Belafonte is charged and convicted of illegal possession of a firearm, he could face up to 10 years in jail.
Assuming even a snippet of what Brown has alleged is the truth, wouldn’t that be a refreshing outcome?
