Emmys In Memoriam Segment Snubs Charlie Murphy, Erin Moran and More; Twitter Rages
So the Emmy Awards happened last night, and lots of people had lots of feelings about it.
And many, if not most, of those feelings were extremely negative.
Lots of people were upset when Sterling K. Brown was played off the stage during his lovely acceptance speech — so many that the venue was filled with boos after it happened.
There was also the very odd choice to bring out Sean Spicer — the "joke" didn"t land, to say the least.
Then there was the In Memoriam segment, the part of the show where everyone takes time to pay tribute to the people from the industry who are no longer with us.
It sounds nice, right?
But the people in charge over there at the Emmys truly dropped the ball with this one.
Huge stars like Charlie Murphy, Dick Gregory, Frank Vincent, Harry Dean Stanton, and Erin Moran weren"t remembered during this special moment during the show.
And you know Twitter wasn"t having that …
1. A Strong Start
2. But Alas …
3. Common Knows
4. A Huge Oversight
5. Not Erin Moran!
6. Where’s the Lie?

Lesley Murphy: Bachelor Alum Shares Pics After Post-Mastectomy Boob Job
Lesley Murphy won fans when competing in Season 17 of The Bachelor, vying for Sean Lowe’s heart way back in 2013.
More recently, though, she made headlines for wisely getting a preventative double-mastectomy after finding out that her genetics put her at major risk of getting breast cancer.
And now, after weeks of preparation, she’s gotten implants and she’s sharing her tale with the world.
Her most recent photo shows her with her surgery happily behind her and she’s doing just fine.
In this Fourth of July photo, Lesley jokes that she’s been “stuffing her bra since the ’90s.”
Avoiding cancer before you ever get it is good.
Having a great sense of humor about it is great.
Just look at how cheerful she looks in this photo after receiving her breast implants:
You may recall that Lesley discovered that she has the BRCA 2 gene, which puts her at major risk for breast cancer.
A double-mastectomy is of course the best choice, but the fact that she’s sharing this with the world is so important.
We’ve read of worst-case scenarios when women face this decision after a breast cancer diagnosis.
One woman’s husband told her that he’d rather see her dead than without breasts.
Another woman expected her husband to pick her up from her mastectomy and he never showed.
When she eventually made her way home, she discovered that he had moved out while she was in the hospital.
(The world is awful, sorry)
So when Lesley Murphy shares her story, complete with photos, with the world, she’s working to reduce misunderstandings and to normalize the life-saving procedure for other women.
It’s even better when she walks followers through every step of the way.
That photo is of Lesley after her second post-op following the mastectomy surgery.
Part of preparing to receive implants meant getting pumped with gradually increasing volumes of saline.
She described the temporary expander implants as feeling like “boulders” as they brought her up from a flat chest to a C-cup.
But now she’s past all of that and her implant surgery went well.
“Happy with a 100% chance of swollen. Exchange surgery was a success and a huge difference from the double mastectomy surgery,”
It sounds like her experience was, while not perfect, very much a best-case scenario.
“After 3 hours I woke up and drank some ginger ale, saw my mom, discussed things with my sweet nurse and was wheeled out of my favorite hospital…where I felt like we hit every bump in the road on the way home. Ouuuuch.”
Yeah, that sounds all kinds of agonizing.
You don’t need to have ever had surgery or have boobs to understand that cars aren’t exactly the most comfortable place to be when you’re not feeling your best.
Honestly, if we’d had any kind of major surgery so recently, you wouldn’t catch us posing for photos for the Fourth of July.
You’d be lucky to catch us wearing anything more than a bathrobe.
A C-cup is a lot of progress since Lesley Murphy’s post-mastectomy photo, right?
Keep in mind, though, that if Lesley had wanted to keep her chest at that level, that would have been 100% fine.
Not everyone who gets a mastectomy can afford to get implants afterwards.
Not everyone who gets a mastectomy wants to get implants afterwards, for any of a whole host of reasons.
But by sharing her story like this, Lesley may make it easier for an unknowable number of women to get life-saving procedures in the future.
Boobs are awesome, but nobody should be dying to keep them.

Lesley Murphy: Bachelor Alum Shares Topless Photo Days After Mastectomy
We know Lesley Murphy best as a contestant on season 17 of The Bachelor — she fought for Sean Lowe’s heart, and she came in fifth place.
Or at least, that was how we knew her.
These days, she’s doing work that’s a little more important than reality show love.
Last month, Lesley revealed that she carried a gene that put her at high risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer and, as a preventative measure, she’d be getting a double mastectomy.
She explained that her mother battled breast cancer, and so she felt it was best to “take care of it right now” with the surgery.
And so last week, she had both of her breasts removed.
She’s been documenting her recovery on her Instagram page, and it’s really just amazing to see.
The first day after her surgery, she wrote that the whole thing was “hard to wrap my head around,” and after seeing her chest, she described it as “It looks like I was in a bear fight and lost. Badly.”
But, she added, “The human body is truly amazing, though, and I will heal soon enough.”
The second day after her surgery, she was able to go home, but with a little apron that held four tubes attached to her chest to drain fluids.
Poor Lesley wrote that “Walking and breathing still doesn’t come easy,” but she looks pretty tough to us.
And then on Sunday, she shared another update — along with a topless photo of herself, taken just five days after her mastectomy.
“My Sunday best,” she captioned the picture, “or what I could manage to put on today with limited arm movements.”
“My mom washed and dried my hair today. She dresses me in the mornings. She also measures my drains twice daily which are the tubes you see coming out of my lovely red apron I never take off,” she continued.
“She’s the freaking best. She slept in my hospital room and bed at home for the first few nights, helping me in and out of bed and giving me meds at horrid hours to control the pain.”
“I have to sleep on my back in the exact same position every night,” she described. “Sometimes when I make the wrong movements it feels like my chest is detaching from my body, but all in all, I think my upper half is healing nicely!”
“Sure, it’s sunken in and lumpy because what you see are deflated expanders that were put in which will gradually get filled every 2-3 weeks as I get ready for reconstructive surgery.”
“Hopefully by then the permanent marker will be off my body.”
Lesley wrote that she feels “lucky” because “my surgeons only made one vertical incision on the lower half of both breasts will saving skin and nipple.”
“So while all breast tissue is (hopefully) gone,” she concluded, “I retained some of the old me! Happy Sunday. God is good.”
In her latest update, which she wrote yesterday, she wrote that she had two of her four tubes removed, and the other two would be removed next week.
“As always,” she added, “I love you guys. I read every heartfelt comment and truly feel the love of this incredible support system.”
“Together we are creating so much awareness for early detection, screenings, gene mutations and how to work with the options we have. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
And thank you, Lesley!
Because seriously, what an inspiration.

Adam Sandler Pays Tribute to Charlie Murphy in Touching Interview
As we all know at this point, Charlie Murphy passed away earlier this week after battling leukemia.
He was only 57 years old.
And, as it turns out, he was really, really loved.
Celebrities far and wide took the time to pay tribute to the legendary late comedian, and all of them had a story about how funny and kind he was.
His death is obviously a huge loss to those that knew him — and Adam Sandler is one of those suffering.
Adam went on Good Morning America yesterday to promote his latest Netflix movie, but he took time at the beginning of the interview to talk about Charlie.
And it really is just touching to see.
"Can I just say, Charlie Murphy … loved him," he began. "My respect to his family and thinking of all of you."
"As a guy, he was the sweetest guy to see and talk to, and we"re all going to miss him very much. It"s great that you"re talking about him."
Adam, who is clearly feeling emotional about the subject, said that while comedians share a close community, Charlie "just stood out."
"You got so happy seeing Charlie, anywhere you saw him," he said. "He was just a good person."
See Adam"s moving remarks in the interview below:

Charlie Murphy: Read His Final, Poignant Tweet
As previously reported, Charlie Murphy has died at the age of 57.
Despite the comedian having been diagnosed with Leukemia and having been in the hospital at the time of his passing, the news was still received a shock to those who knew Murphy well.
Various sources have confirmed that Murphy kept the dire status of his disease very quiet, even from close family members.
But it seems pretty clear that the star was aware his time was inching closer.
Consider his final Tweet, written the day before he died:
“One to Sleep On: Release the past to rest as deeply as possible.”
Fans didn’t give the message much thought at the time, but it’s impossible not to stare at, analyze and grow teary-eyed over the Tweet now
In the aftermath of Murphy’s passing, comedians and actors from across Hollywood have expressed their condolences on social media.
Eddie Murphy and his relatives have also released a statement that reads as follows:
Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie.
Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers.
We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.
Aside from co-writing a few of his brother’s films and starring in a handful of movies himself, Charlie Murphy was best known later in life for hilarious appearances on Chappelle’s Show.
On Wednesday night, during a surprise cameo at a John Mayer concert, Dave Chappelle spoke to the crowd about losing his good friend and former colleague.
“Today I got some terrible news,” said the beloved stand-up comic from a stage in Ohio.
“My good friend Charlie Murphy passed away this morning, and everybody in comedy is heartbroken.”
He went on to say that Mayer’s song, “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me,” reminded him of “my friend Charlie Murphy — our friend Charlie Murphy.”
As Mayer proceeded to play that track, Chappelle concluded:
“Rest in peace Charlie Murphy. We love you. We loved your comedy, we loved your stories, and we love your spirit.”
Murphy recently completed a tour with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on The Comedy Get Down.
He stood out for roles in such movies as Are We There Yet?, The Boondocks and Black Jesus, while helping his brother pen Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn.
He will be greatly missed and his comedy always appreciated.
Please join us in sending your best wishes to Charlie’s family, along with your thoughts, prayers and condolences.

Charlie Murphy: Memorialized by Famous Brother, Family
A day after Charlie Murphy died of cancer at the age of 57, members of the comedian’s family have issued a statement to the public.
These members, of course, include Murphy’s very famous brother, Eddie.
Scroll down for a look at what those who knew Charlie best and loved him most had to say about his unexpected passing…
“Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie,” the statement reads.
It continues:
“Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers.
“We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.”
Murphy kept his Leukemia diagnosis secret from his co-workers, according to TMZ insiders.
And while his relatives were aware that Charlie was sick, they were under the impression that he was getting better. Sources say they were stunned by his death on Wednesday.
According to Murphy’s manager, the star passed away in a New York City hospital, having been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for an unspecified period of time prior to his passing.
Family members, however, told TMZ shortly afterward that they spoke to Charlie often; that he would frequently joke about how they should leave him alone; and that he offered no signs that the situation was so dire.
Murphy famously co-starred on Chappelle’s Show.
He appeared in some of the most memorable skits from this beloved program, including segments in which he parties with Rick James and Prince.
Charlie also co-wrote some of his brothers films, such as Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn, while co-starring in Are We There Yet?, The Boondocks and Black Jesus.
Murphy most recently toured with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on The Comedy Get Down.
All of these comedians, along with many others in Hollywood, expressed their surprise and sadness over Murphy’s passing on social media yesterday.
Here’s a look at what they said:
Charlie’s wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died in 2009 from cervical cancer.
They had two children, and he had another child from a previous relationship.
In an interview with Variety last September, Eddie Murphy opened up about how his older brother was responsible for his career in comedy.
“Charlie is actually my best impression,” the former Saturday Night Live icon said at the time, explaining:
“I’ve been doing him since I was two or three. He was my first impression. I wish he would get famous because people could see this great impression that I do.”
Tweeted Hughley in a nice summation of his close friend:
“After every gig, he rushed home to be with his kids. He died with gigs on the books. #RIP #mybrotha #charliemurphy #CGD.”
May Charlie Murphy, and all the celebrities who died in 2017, rest in peace.
