Emmys In Memoriam Segment Snubs Charlie Murphy, Erin Moran and More; Twitter Rages

So the Emmy Awards happened last night, and lots of people had lots of feelings about it.

And many, if not most, of those feelings were extremely negative.

Lots of people were upset when Sterling K. Brown was played off the stage during his lovely acceptance speech — so many that the venue was filled with boos after it happened.

There was also the very odd choice to bring out Sean Spicer — the "joke" didn"t land, to say the least.

Then there was the In Memoriam segment, the part of the show where everyone takes time to pay tribute to the people from the industry who are no longer with us.

It sounds nice, right?

But the people in charge over there at the Emmys truly dropped the ball with this one.

Huge stars like Charlie Murphy, Dick Gregory, Frank Vincent, Harry Dean Stanton, and Erin Moran weren"t remembered during this special moment during the show.

And you know Twitter wasn"t having that …

1. A Strong Start

A strong start

Viola David? Chris Jackson? Boy, this thing had all the ingredients to be a real tear-jerker, huh?

2. But Alas …

But alas

It just simply did not work out.

3. Common Knows

Common knows

In a nice way, Common called out the Emmys for ignoring Charlie Murphy and Dick Gregory.

4. A Huge Oversight

A huge oversight

… Because really, how are you going to do that to Charlie Murphy and Dick Gregory?

5. Not Erin Moran!

Not erin moran

Seriously, they forgot this lady, too. Such a disappointment.

6. Where’s the Lie?

Wheres the lie

Nothing against legends Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, obviously, but this person has an excellent point.

Erin Moran: Her Brother Reveals Secrets of Her Tragic Life

Last week, Erin Moran, best known for playing Joanie on Happy Days, passed away after a short but brutal battle with cancer.

We hadn’t heard anything about her in a while, with the latest reports before her death being about her struggles with money and how she’d become homeless.

But now Erin’s brother, Tony Moran, is filling the public in with some details about her that we never knew.

And every last one of them is absolutely heartbreaking.

Tony says that Erin hadn’t told him or any of their four other siblings about her cancer, and when he learned of her passing, he, like many others, assumed it was because of her struggles with addiction.

“I didn’t even realize she was sick, never mind dying,” he reveals. “When I found out I bawled like a baby. I couldn’t believe she was gone.”

“My first thoughts were she must have had a heart attack caused by years of substance abuse.”

Tony says that “She has always battled demons and in recent years things have gone from bad to worse.”

“We were raised by a mom and dad who were not fit to be parents. She found true happiness on Happy Days and was America’s sweetheart, but then she was a nobody … and it broke her heart.”

According to him, those ten years that Erin spent playing Joanie on Happy Days were “the most content I ever saw Erin,” and “her castmates were the stable family she never had growing up.”

He says that growing up, their father was “a violent man who ruled our home with fear and physical abuse,” while their mother “lived her life through Erin,” and “when she wasn’t on set with her, she was in bed off her head on painkillers.”

Since Erin achieved fame at such an early age, she was never the direct victim of their father’s rage, “but she witnessed it all and longed to have parents who were loving instead of the horrible parents they were.”

Tony reveals that Erin first began experimenting with drugs when she was a teenager, after some Happy Days higher ups asked her to lose weight.

“The pressure to look a certain way was relentless and that fuelled her drug taking. She never felt pretty or thin enough,” he remembers.

“She was about 16 when she started to drink and smoke pot … Then it was speed and cocaine. I never said anything. I was indulging as much as she was and none of us were mature enough to stop it.”

During those years, Tony says that Erin spent money recklessly on anything and everything she wanted, but “it was too much, too young,” and when Happy Days ended, she struggled to get more jobs.

“Nobody wanted to book her, as everyone thought of her as Joanie,” he says. “I cannot begin to imagine how hard that was for her.”

“Erin loved fame, so when she didn’t have it any more she fell apart. It was a false love, but the only one she really knew.”

He says that she “thought of herself as a failure,” and used drugs and alcohol to numb that pain.

“I think in her final months,” he imagines, “she’d had enough of living after all she had been through and was just ready to go.”

“I wish I had got a chance to tell her how much I loved her. I pray she finds the peace she never found when she was alive … She had such a huge heart, it was just too big for Hollywood.”

Again, our condolences to Tony and the rest of Erin’s family. It seems they lost a truly wonderful woman.

Scott Baio Says Erin Moran Drug Backlash Really About His Trump Support (VIDEO)

Scott Baio thinks much of the backlash he’s gotten for his comments about Erin Moran’s drug issues is driven by his ties to Donald Trump. Scott told us liberals have been attacking him for linking his former co-star’s death to a drug…

Erin Moran: Husband Reveals Cause of Death, Mourns Actress in Moving Letter

Earlier this week, Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi actress Erin Moran passed away at the age of 56.

Little was known about Moran’s cause of death in the days after the news of her passing went public, but that didn’t prevent one of her former co-stars from speculating.

Scott Baio, who played the other title character in Joanie Loves Chachi, stated that he was “not surprised” by Moran’s death, and incorrectly attributed her premature demise to her history of drug and alcohol abuse.

“I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, could never find what made her happy and content,” Baio said in an interview on Monday.

“For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.”

After it was revealed that Moran likely died of cancer and not of an overdose, the criticism of Baio grew louder, with many demanding the actor apologize.

Instead, Baio defended his comments in a bizarrely Trump-ian Twitter tirade:

“This is so wrong. Now I know what fake news is!” the 56-year-old tweeted, adding:

“I said ‘IF’ (You abuse drugs/alcohol). My wife @MrsScottBaio spoke to Erin less than 1 month ago.”

Now it seems that Baio has finally realized he should be trying to make amends to Moran’s family, not flailing about in an effort to salvage what’s left of his career.

Moments ago, Baio posted a lengthy open letter penned by Moran’s husband, Steve Fleischmann, which confirms what law enforcement officials revealed yesterday:

Moran was battling stage four cancer at the time of her death.

Fleischmann revealed that the cancer acted fast, having only been discovered in November:

“Erin woke up and had about a dime size blood stain on her pillowcase,” he wrote.

“She said I think i bit my tongue. A couple days go by and there’s a bigger spot of blood. We get like 4 days into December, there’s more blood. I get a flashlight and say let me look. It was not her tongue it was her tonsil on the left side. I thought it was tonsillitis.”

He added:

“So we went to an ENT who said they wanted to biopsy it. It came back squamous cell carcinoma. She started radiation and chemo. Five days a week radiation and chemo only on Thursdays. We did that the whole time. It got so bad so fast.”

Fleischmann went on to offer a heartbreaking account of his wife’s final moments:

“I laid down next to her held her right hand in my left. I feel asleep woke up about a hour later still holding her hand and she was gone, she was just gone. Norton Cancer Institute never said how bad it was,” he wrote.

“The coroner told me it was really really bad. It had spread to her spleen, she had alot of fluid in her lungs and part of her brain was infected.”

He added that by the time the cancer was discovered, it was already too late:

“The coroner said even if she was in the hospital being pumped full of antibiotics she still would not of made it. He said it was the best that she was with me and went in her sleep.”

Fleischmann concluded with a plea for sensitivity from fans and the media:

“PLEASE feel free to send the above to Any and ALL news outlets The press has been relentless,” he wrote.

“They knock on the door constantly.”

Our thoughts go out to Fleischmann and the rest of Moran’s family at this difficult time.

Scott Baio Defends Erin Moran Overdose Comments

Earlier this week, we learned the sad news that former Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi star Erin Moran had passed away at the age of 56.

Sadly, Moran’s later years were characterized by substance abuse, financial difficulties, and a seemingly endless string of bad luck.

As a result, the question of Moran’s cause of death sparked a good deal of wild speculation, and prompted one of her former co-stars to jump to an insensitive conclusion.

Asked about Moran’s passing in a recent interview, Baio opted out of the traditional route (singing her praises as an actress and human being, offering thoughts and prayers to her family) and instead took the opportunity to remind us all that he’s one of Hollywood’s premiere washed-up douche bags.

Baio stated that we not surprised by Moran’s death, and proceeded to play medical examiner by declaring that her death was a direct result of her lifestyle:

“She was troubled,” Baio said, “could never find what made her happy and content. For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.”

It was an ignorant comment to make under any circumstances, but now Baio looks like even more of a jackass as a result of the revelation that Moran likely died of cancer, not from a drug overdose.

In light of that revelation, one would expect Baio to express some contrition, but Chachi is a graduate of the Donald Trump School of A-Hole Public Relations, which means he never apologizes for any reason.

“This is so wrong. Now I know what fake news is!” Baio tweeted yesterday, sounding very much like his Day-Glo idol.

He added:

“I said ‘IF’ (You abuse drugs/alcohol). My wife @MrsScottBaio spoke to Erin less than 1 month ago.”

Oh, well if his wife talked to Erin a month ago, then he must be a good guy!

You need only scroll up to see that Baio most definitely did not say “if,” but hey, we’re living in the post-fact world, right?

Hell, we want in on the fun, too!

Do you guys remember when Scott Baio moved on from his laughable stint as a terrible ’80s sitcom actor and went on to a respected career in which he was totally not a walking punchline?

It was right around the time Adam Sandler took home all those Oscars and the Buffalo Bills won the Super Bowl.

Those were the days.

Erin Moran Cause of Death: Secret Illness Revealed?

Yesterday, we learned the sad news that Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi star Erin Moran had passed away at the age of 56.

Speculation about the cause of Erin Moran’s death has been rampant, but early on, there was not much in the way of definitive news.

That may have just changed.

The actress was fed through a gastrointestinal tube, or GI tube, at home with her mother-in-law, according to the coroner’s office.

Moran had been receiving treatment for Stage 4 cancer, with the tube in her throat to keep her alive during her tragic final days.

The source of this detail asked to remain anonymous pending further details to be released by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept.

However, they said the coroner found a GI tube during the examination, as well as “ample” evidence that Moran succumbed to Stage 4 cancer.

The specific type of cancer was not immediately clear.

“It was indicative when they did the autopsy that she was receiving medical care,” the source tells People, which reported the story.

A GI tube is usually inserted into the stomach by a physician to provide vital nutrients to patients who cannot feed themselves.

It can also be used to reverse the process, removing fluids from a person’s body when a patient is unable to perform the task.

The Sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing:

“Standard toxicology tests were performed and results are pending, however no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.”

“There were no illicit substances or anything to suggest foul play,” however, officials conducting the investigation reiterated.

If true, this would contradict earlier reports and speculation that Moran, who battled addiction for years, died of an overdose.

One of those who fueled that theory was her Joanie Loves Chachi co-star himself, Scott Baio, who spoke out in the wake of her death.

Baio appeared on the Bernie & Sid radio show today and wound up weighing in on the subject in a manner he may later regret.

Asked how he’s holding up, Scott says he’s not surprised she died: “I’m OK, a little shocked but not completely shocked that this happened.”

“My thing is … I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, she could never find what made her happy and content.”

“For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.”

Baio then tried to walk back that comment somewhat, saying, “I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive.”

moran 2

“You gotta take care of yourself,” he added.

“I’m saddened by what happened. I don’t know if it was drugs that killed her, I read one report said it might have been and I hope …”

“I don’t know what I hope. It’s what it is.”

Moran was troubled by substance abuse issues throughout her life, that much is not in doubt; Baio may have jumped the gun, though.

Erin was pronounced dead Saturday at the trailer Moran shared in rural New Salisbury, Indiana, with her husband’s mother.

“To my knowledge, they had their own room,” the source said.

Both Moran’s husband, Steven Fleischmann, and his mother, Donna Woods, have remained out of the public eye since her passing.

Scott Baio on Erin Moran Death: I"m Not Surprised!

Yesterday, the world learned that Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi star Erin Moran had passed away at the age of 56.

Whike there’s been a good deal of speculation surrounding Moran’s cause of death, authorities investigating the matter have yet to reach any definitive conclusions.

But that didn’t stop Chachi himself, Scott Baio, from publicly declaring that he knows exactly what killed his former co-star.

Baio appeared on the Bernie & Sid radio show on this morning and was asked how he’s holding up in the wake of Moran’s death.

“I’m OK, a little shocked but not completely shocked that this happened,” Baio responded.

“My thing is, I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, could never find what made her happy and content. For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.”

Yikes. We don’t want to be around when Scott finds out that he’s gonna die even if he doesn’t drink or do drugs.

Baio want on to sort of dial back his statement, but wound up sounding confused by his own words.

“I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive and you gotta take care of yourself,” he added.

“I’m saddened by what happened. I don’t know if it was drugs that killed her, I read one report said it might have been and I hope it … I don’t know what I hope. It’s what it is. What can you do?”

Moran was troubled by substance abuse issues throughout her life, but the results of a post-mortem toxicology report are still pending.

Shortly after Baio’s interview, sheriffs in Harrison County, Indiana released a statement indicating that Moran probably did not overdose and likely died as a result of complications from cancer:

“A joint investigation into Mrs. Moran’s death was conducted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Harrison Country Coroner’s office,” reads the statement.

“A subsequent autopsy revealed that Mrs. Moran likely succumbed to complications of stage 4 cancer.”

The report adds:

“Standard toxicology tests were performed and the results are pending however no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.”

So while the possibility that Moran overdosed has not been ruled out, it’s far from a certainty … as Scott Baio would have you believe.

This has been your daily reminder that Scott Baio is a douche.

Erin Moran: Cause of Death Revealed

Yesterday, we reported on the death of Erin Moran, the actress best known for her work on Happy Days and the short-lived spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi.

Moran was just 56 years old.

Sadly, Moran’s final years were characterized by substance abuse, poverty, and a slow, alcohol-fueled descent into mental illness.

Moran and husband Steve Fleischmann lost their SoCal home to foreclosure in 2012, and the couple had been bouncing around the Midwest ever since.

At the time of her death, Moran was living in Corydon, Indiana, having been kicked out of the trailer park home belonging to Fleischmann’s mother due to what sources described as “constant partying.”

Now, it’s believed that Moran’s lifestyle resulted in her early demise.

Though toxicology reports are pending, those who knew Moran best say there’s little doubt that the actress substance abuse played a role in her death.

While it may be several weeks before autopsy results are reported, law enforcement officials in Corydon reportedly believe that Moran drank and drugged herself into an early grave.

Police have left open the possibility of an overdose, as the trailer park that she was living in at the time of her death was known to be plagued by opioid abuse.

However, those closest to Moran do not believe that she overdosed.

Rather, sources say it appears that her death was a result of the cumulative effects of several decades of hard living.

Insiders say that because Moran’s drug of choice was alcohol, they suspect that it was undiagnosed heart or liver disease that claimed her life.

One source tells Radar Online about the brushes with the law and state of semi-homelessness that defined Moran’s final days.

The insider says that ever since she was evicted from the trailer belonging to Fleischmann’s mother, Moran’s life had spiraled out of control:

“Erin was a huge help at first, but then Steve’s mom got fed up with Erin’s nonstop partying and told her to hit the road,” the source tells Radar.

“It was a little hard to tell if it was just alcohol,” the insider adds, detailing a strange final encounter with Moran:

“She didn’t do any drugs or talk about them in front of us. She was definitely a little kooky and acted weird, saying odd things, and even offered to give me a back rub.”

Moran was mourned by many of her famous former colleagues on social media in the hours after her death.

We’ll have further updates on the sitcom star’s cause of death as more information becomes available.

Erin Moran: Mourned and Remembered by Happy Days Costars

Yesterday, we heard the sad news that Erin Moran, an actress best known for her role on Happy Days, had passed away at the age of 56.

At this point in time, the cause of her death is unknown — officials have scheduled an autopsy to clear everything up.

Right now, we know that around 4:00 yesterday afternoon in Indiana, authorities received a call about an “unresponsive female.”

But when EMTs arrived to the location, the woman — Erin — was already dead.

It was a sad ending to what seemed to be a sad life.

She began her acting career when she was only five years old. She appeared in commercials and had small roles in various television shows until she landed the role of Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days.

Erin played Joanie for the full ten seasons that Happy Days ran, and she played her again for one season of the spin-off series Joanie Loves Chachi.

She had a few other roles after the show ended, most recently in the film Not Another B Movie in 2010, but she never had the same level of fame or success since.

Several reports claim that she began struggling with addiction issues, and she also struggled with her finances, eventually ending up completely broke.

But no matter what happened in her life, no matter what caused her to end up the way she did, one fact remains:

She was clearly well loved and respected by her Happy Days family.

Ron Howard, who played Erin’s big brother Richie Cunningham, remembered her on Twitter, writing “Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens.”

Henry Winkler, The Fonz himself, tweeted “OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon.”

Don Most, who played Richie’s friend Ralph, made a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, saying “I am so incredibly sad to hear about Erin. She was a wonderful, sweet, caring, talented woman.”

“As I write this I can’t really comprehend this right now. A very painful loss. It gives me some comfort to know that she’s with Tom, Al, Pat and Garry. Rest In Peace, sweet Erin.”

He’s referring, of course, to Tom Bosley, Al Molinaro, and Pat Morita, all beloved actors from Happy Days, and Garry Marshall, the show’s creator.

Anson Williams, who played Richie’s other buddy, Potsie, released a statement of his own that read “Erin was a person who made everyone around her feel better.”

“She truly cared about others first, a true angel. I will miss her so much, but know that she is in God’s hands. RIP sweet angel.”

Her loss is clearly being felt deeply by those who knew her, and it’s such a testament to the kind of person she apparently was.

Our condolences to all of Erin’s friends and family.

Erin Moran Dies; Former Happy Days Star Was 56

Erin Moran, the actress best known for having portrayed Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, was found dead on Saturday from causes unknown.

She was 56 years old.

According to TMZ sources, authorities in Indiana received a call just after 4 p.m. this afternoon from someone reporting he or she had come across an “unresponsive female.”

When emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene, they found Moran’s corpse.

Moran sky-rocketed to fame in the early 1970s when she was cast as the younger sister of Ron Howard’s beloved character on Happy Days.

In 1982, she went on to star opposite Scott Baio on the short-lived spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi.

It was canceled after just one season.

Following her quick rise to fame, however, Moran struggled in life.

She appeared to have a drinking problem and, after a series of bizarre incidents, eventually landed her in a trailer park in Indiana.

She had reportedly gone broke and was kicked out of the mobile home she shared with husband, Steve Fleischmann.

Along with her aforementioned legendary role, Moran appeared on episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard, and Celebrity Fit Club.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determined cause of death.

moran

In 2011, Moran and three of her Happy Days costars (Don Most, Anson Williams and Marion Ross), along with the estate of Tom Bosley, who died in 2010, sued CBS for breach of contract, alleging that they had not been paid for merchandising relating to the series.

In 2012, CBS and the actors settled their lawsuit, with the group receiving and undisclosed amount of money.

A Burbank, California native, Moran started acting in television shows and movies before she was 10 years old.

She was just 14 when she caught her major break on Happy Days.

In response to this sad news, former co-stars of Moran’s took to social media and expressed their sadness. To wit:

Ron Howard: Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens.

Henry Winkler: OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon.

Added Moran’s good friend, Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on Bewitched:

“So sad to share that my friend Erin Moran has passed away. Rest In Peace, sweet girl.

Other stars also chimed in on Moran’s passing, such as Yvette Nicole Brown, who Tweeted:

“Such sad news. #RIP #ErinMoran #HappyDays Star Dead At 56. We all loved #JoanieCunningham.”

And Troy Hughes: “THIS JUST IN … Erin Moran who starred in “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi” has died according to @TMZ … She was 56.”

We send along our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Erin Moran.
