Selena Gomez: The Weeknd is More Like My Best Friend!
Selena Gomez is magical, lyrical, and beautiful.
While she’s created some of the best music that humanity has ever or will ever produce, Selena Gomez’s life as a celebrity hasn’t been all easy all of that time. From her previously unlucky love life to her chronic battle with lupus, Selena’s had more than her share of crappy times.
These days, she’s doing so much better — and The Weeknd is a big part of that.
Selena Gomez tells InStyle a lot about how she’s doing these days, and that includes talking about her relationship.
Maybe the most important part of this whole piece is that she doesn’t put all of her proverbial eggs in one basket — by which we mean that her happiness isn’t entirely contingent upon her love life.
“I don’t depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It’s really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy.”
Remember, Selena Gomez is a role model for a lot of young women.
So many old-fashioned stories and even a lot of modern media reinforces the idea that men are defined by their achievements and women are defined by their relationships.
It’s a pernicious element within our culture.
Every time that a celebrity speaks out about there being many sources of her own happiness and how important it is that her whole life doesn’t revolve around a man, that’s a good thing.
It puts another much-needed crack in that patriarchal nonsense that’s infested our culture for millennia.
But Selena talks about how she didn’t always feel so independent and powerful:
“I’ve wanted to be in a strong head space for years, and I really wasn’t. Before, I was so young and easily influenced, and I’d feel insecure.”
Selena is a great actress, she’s gorgeous, she’s well-spoken … and, as we’ve mentioned, her music is positively transcendent in its quality.
So when we say that all sorts of people feel insecure, we literally mean all sorts.
Selena does talk about what she values in a man — and, specifically, The Weeknd.
“You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I’m lucky because he’s more of a best friend than anything else.”
That’s so good, on multiple levels.
Adding to you rather than completing you is a great way of correcting outdated ways of talking about love.
And people talk all of the time about “marrying their best friend,” but that’s something to look for when you’re dating, too.
That means someone who will support you and someone with whom you have a lot in common.
If you’re in a serious relationship, anyway.
Selena Gomez has accumulated a lot of wisdom in her 25 years.
(She just had her birthday on July 22nd)
She talks about her age a little.
“I kind of wish numbers didn’t exist sometimes, because I feel like I’m 15 some days, and then other days I wake up and I’m 40.”
That is the most relatable thing that a celebrity has said in ages.
Maybe not everyone can relate, but I certainly can.
Selena talks about time itself and how frightening change can be:
“It’s so weird, how one year can change everything. Last year I canceled my tour and went away for 90 days, and it was the best thing that I ever could’ve done. I had no phone, nothing, and I was scared.”
I don’t even check the mail without my phone in my pocket, so I can imagine so.
Selena’s glad that she did it, though:
“But it was amazing, and I learned a lot. Everything I cared about, I stopped caring about. I came out, and it felt like, ‘OK, I can only go forward."”
That’s sort of a detox from your life, right?
My closest version of that would be, like, taking a break from most TV shows because life has become overwhelming, and then seeing which ones I’m eager to go back to and which ones I can just drop.
Selena’s version is more extreme.
She also has a strategy for her ongoing wellness:
“I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are. But I’m in a really, really healthy place.”
That’s so good to hear.
As for what Selena’s 90 days were like?
“I was in the countryside and never did my hair; I took part in equine therapy, which is so beautiful. And it was hard, obviously.”
We’d imagine so, yeah.
“But I knew what my heart was saying, and I thought, ‘OK, I think this has helped me become stronger for other people."”
Not that she wasn’t becoming stronger for herself, of course.
“When I came out, I was asked to go to the American Music Awards, and everyone around me was like, ‘Do whatever makes you comfortable."”
That’s good advice.
Sometimes you need to take it easy.
But that’s not the route that Selena chose — for the sake of her fans.
“I didn’t want my fans to have a negative view of taking care of yourself, so I just went in head-on, and I’ll tell you, the first time stepping on that carpet was so overwhelming. I felt like my back was sweating.”
Self-care is so important.
And Selena Gomez, who toughs things out for all of the right reasons, is wonderful.
You know, talk about Selena Gomez having to cancel her tour for her well-being — remember, folks, she has lupus and various side effects that come from it and from the agonizing chemo used to treat it — really illustrates how absurd it is that Justin Bieber canceled his tour for “exhaustion.”
We know that Justin seems to think that his faith calls him to quit touring or whatever, but “exhaustion” is such a lame excuse to give to his disappointed fans.
Not to mention to the hundreds of workers who were just totally screwed over by his announcement.
Selena Gomez downs shots of concentrated ginger as casually as the rest of us drink shots of whiskey, because she’s a total badass.
(Though we guess that, after chemo, ginger shots might be a relative breeze)
What wondrous things did humanity ever do to deserve Selena?

Tori Roloff Shares New Baby Pics, Best Wishes for Sister-in-Law
Tori Roloff is very excited about the baby currently in her life…
… and the baby about to be in her life.
As fans of Little People, Big World know very well by now, Tori and husband Zach are the VERY proud parents of a newborn son named Jackson Kyle.
He was born on May 12 and the couple has spent nearly every day since gushing over their bundle of joy, while also being generous enough to share many photos of Jackson with the world.
Just a few days ago, for example, Tori joked that Jackson was going to be a ladies man, considering the adorable hooded sweatshirt he was rocking at the time, combined with this amazing look on his face.
Over the weekend, meanwhile, Tori attended a baby show held in honor of her sister-in-law, Audrey Roloff, who is expected her first child this September.
It’s already been confirmed and announced that Audrey and Jeremy Roloff will welcome a precious girl this fall.
Sharing a beautiful photo of herself, her son and her expecting loved one on Instagram on Monday, Tori wrote the following caption in honor of the special occasion:
I am so thankful to get to walk through this moment of life with my sister.
@audreyroloff you are going to make such a wonderful Mom. I can’t wait to meet my sweet niece and watch her and Jackson grow up together.
You looked stunning yesterday, and I hope you felt showered with love.
Based on the photos (below) from Audrey’s baby shower, we can’t imagine any scenario in which she did not.
In the picture perfect picture above, Audrey is wearing a floor-length white dress and cradling her growing baby bump .. while Tori is in a knee-length, off-the-shoulder black dress and holding month-plus-old Jackson in her arms.
On the way home from Audrey’s party, meanwhile, Tori snapped this brand new image of Jackson.
He’s wearing a bowtie in it and we pretty much want to die of cuteness overload right here and right now as a result of staring at it:
“Today we got to celebrate Cousin Roloff! We can’t wait to meet you baby girl!” wrote Tori as a caption.
For her part, Audrey got engaged to Jeremy in March 2014 and married in September of that same year at Roloff Farms in Hillsboro, Oregon/
The TLC stars then announced in February that they were expecting their first child later this year.
And Audrey has been gushing about the experience for weeks on social media, talking up Jeremy and God and sharing several pregnancy photos while making it clear just how psyched she is to be a parent.
“As I get closer to meeting our precious baby girl, I am more and more in need of the reminded that the SAME POWER that conquered the grave lives inside of me!” Audrey said along with the following photograph, for example.
She continued: “And guess what? If you have received Him as your savior and submit to Him as Lord, you have access to that same powers too!
“If you let Him fill you and fuel you, He will ALWAYS empower you with MORE strength, energy, power, perservernce, creativity, ability, and love than you could ever muster up on your own.”
Little People, Big World wrapped up Season 13 this month.
But we already know Season 14 is on tap and we can only assume Audrey’s pregnancy will play a key role on new episodes this fall.

Justin Bieber: Drake is the Best of Our Generation!
It’s a sweet Instagram tribute but it’s leaving some folks scratching their heads. Is it trite to ask the Biebz “what do you mean?”
Justin Bieber and Drake have known each other for a long time and yes, they both hail from Canada, but these are still some heavy compliments to lay down out of the blue.
That was back in 2011. Justin was just a baby!
Drake was looking pretty young himself.
But Justin had some flattering things to say about the Canadian rapper who first earned fame for his role as Wheelchair Jimmy on Degrassi.
He took to Instagram, posting a photo of Drake and captioned it:
“More than a rapper, a culture shifter and legend. Best of our generation.”
Like, that first part we’ll accept.
Rap is mainstream at this point, though it’s not usually my sort of music.
Is Drake a culture-shifter? Sure.
Is he a legend? That’s obviously premature.
But that’s the kind of thing that people say anyway. That’s where “living legends” come from, though they’re usually not 30.
But then there’s that second part.
“Best of our generation.”
That’s a super bold claim.
Never mind that it’s a massive claim that potentially insults all Millennials who aren’t Drake …
(Though, obviously, we have to consider that)
… Justin’s indirectly slighting some people he knows personally.
Basically, he’s insulting every girlfriend he’s ever had.
Including Selena Gomez, whose music represents the peak of human musical potential.
Maybe … maybe he just means the best rapper or musician of the generation?
That would still be an indirect slight to everyone else in the industry.
At the very least everyone else who raps.
Like, Drake is absolutely one of the biggest names in rap, but Justin’s saying that he’s the very best.
As if he doesn’t know that Nicki Minaj exists?
(Though Drake’s accidentally ignored Nicki Minaj before, too)
We get that he was excited to see Drake take the stage to host the inaugural 2017 NBA Awards, which we hear is some sort of sportsball thing.
But spontaneous declarations of admiration can sometimes rub other people the wrong way, you know?
Mostly, though, it’s sweet and dumb, which represents Justin at his best.
Also, this isn’t technically related, but let’s not forget that Drake has impersonate Bieber before for a video of his own.
Yeah, you can’t really unsee that weirdness.
If we have to live with it, so do you.
Honestly, our takeaway from Bieber’s post is that he’s sort of … well, not quite waxing nostalgic.
And certainly not philosophical.
But he’s been uncharacteristically pensive lately.
(That’s one of the side-effects of sobriety).
He posted that throwback photo to his DUI mugshot.
The Biebz was also super sweet in his Manchester tribute, earning praise from Selena Gomez herself.
Justin might not be the wisest anything in the anything, but he’s trying to be a better person.
And part of that means standing up for his friends.
So … let’s let him be sweet and see where that takes him.

Katy Perry Ranks Her Exes at Sex: See Who"s Best and Worst!
Katy Perry, for whatever reason, agreed to rate three former lovers by their sexual skills.
The lovers? Orlando Bloom, John Mayer, and Diplo.
Her answer is … not the most flattering.
Katy Perry’s brand has taken a few weird turns, you know?
Her “I’m sexy, look at my boobs, and no, I’m not Zooey Deschanel or Alison Brie, come on guys!” thing was never going to last forever.
Also, her “I’m the fun girl who parties with the gays” doesn’t distinguish her from … any other celebrity or even most other women her age.
And it turns out that “I’m feuding with Taylor Swift” isn’t an identity unto itself, let alone exclusive to her.
Lately she seems to be trying to zero in on LGBT culture and the community, possibly with the hopes of becoming a community fixture.
This is getting something of mixed reception.
But, maybe more notably, she’s shedding a lot of the “bubbly girl” persona that she wore for years and is being much more frank about things like sex and sexuality.
So, now she’s been asked, straight-up, to rate her past lovers.
James Corden is the one who asked, and he does have this unrelenting charm about him, so we understand her giving in and answering.
This was, by the way, on her big ridiculous livestream, where you can watch her sleep, if you’re into that (also please don’t be into that).
But realistically, we suspect that the question and answer were designed to call attention to Katy’s livestream. It’s working.
The three exes whom Katy rated were: Orlando Bloom, John Mayer, and Diplo. And Katy rated all three of them …
The Worst: Diplo
The In Between: Orlando Bloom
The Best: John Mayer
Now, we have to be fair, because she did quickly clarify that they were all three fantastic lovers and that she would happily have sex with them all again.
We don’t think that she was airing her plans, we think that she was just, you know, being nice and possibly being honest.
Diplo sounds less like the name of a DJ and more like the name of a pharmaceutical — what would that treat? Migraines?
But his actual name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, and in this day and age, you’d rather be mistaken for a drug than have someone think that you share a last name with Mike Pence.
But Diplo’s actually been around for years, and has even dabbled in feuding with Taylor Swift, the very thought of which is so exhausting that it makes us want to take a nap. But it gives him something in common with Katy, sort of.
Orlando Bloom is more widely known, and was part of the sexual awakening of plenty of folks who were teens when The Fellowship of the Ring and the first Pirates of the Caribbean came out.
Now it’s, like, 16 years later, and he still looks good — even when naked.
He and Katy also had an amicable breakup, like actual adults, which is pretty refreshing in the world of relentless Hollywood drama.
John Mayer has a reputation for giving off a pretty skeezy vibe, though he’s tried to make up for that in recent years.
Honestly, since Katy Perry made it clear that they aren’t going to date again, we hope that her praise doesn’t confuse him.
He strikes us as the kind of guy who’d hear “I’d have sex with him again” and think that it means that she wants him back.
In general, playing truth-or-dare on a livestream when you’re both celebrities isn’t the best idea, even if you both kind of have a feel for the other’s boundaries.
Ranking lovers is pretty vanilla when it comes to truth-sharing, but it is not when you are a celebrity and all three of them are celebrities (Diplo shouldn’t count but let’s just let him have this).
They have fans who adore them and, like literally all humans, they don’t want anyone thinking that they’re bad at sex.
Of course, it’s possible that Katy’s answer was very calculated.
If you think about it, Diplo’s the lowest on the “food chain” of those three, so of course you’d rank him last.
Orlando Bloom may not be his hottest self anymore, but he’s still widely recognized as being astonishingly good-looking. Plus, you know, those nude photos were wildly flattering.
So, of the two, Bloom might have the least need for additional praise.
Though … there’s always the chance that John Mayer is actually just really good at sex. Sometimes even the skeeziest guys are.
Sometimes they have that one thing going for them.
Someone could ask Taylor Swift if she agrees with Katy about their mutual ex … but honestly, who would dare?
We spent the last couple of years feeling a little fatigued about Katy Perry, but we have to admit that we’re interested to see what she gets up to next.
But if she wants to share anymore celebrity bedroom secrets, we’re up for hearing those, too.

Best Man Proposes to His Girlfriend During Wedding Ceremony: Not OK
Weddings are beautiful, special, happy occasions, full of love and good feelings and just so much joy.
Except when they’re not.
And in a story shared in in Slate’s advice column, Dear Prudence, we see what happens when perfectly lovely weddings take a dark, scary turn.
A woman wrote in to Dear Prudence, asking for advice about a certain event that occurred at her wedding.
As she explained, “My husband and I started dating, got pregnant, had a child, moved in together, bought a house, and got a dog in that order.”
She wrote that in all that time, friends and family kept asking them when they planned on getting married, but that they just kept postponing it “to build better lives.”
After a while, they were able to afford a “huge blowout wedding,” and so they did.
Her now-husband chose his best friend, who she called John, to be his best man — and John was also able to officiate the ceremony. How special, right?
On the day of that great big wedding, “everyone seemed happy” and the guests were “overjoyed” that this moment had finally come.
The bride wrote that “the entire atmosphere felt moving” — in fact, it was so moving that John “stopped mid-ceremony to propose to his longtime girlfriend, ‘Jane,’ and reveal her pregnancy.”
Hold the damn phone.
The best man is actually performing the ceremony, and in the middle of everything, he stops to have his own moment?
Well, at least it can’t possibly get worse, right?
Ha ha, just kidding, of course it can.
This poor woman said that “I couldn’t even hear the vows my husband wrote or the rest of the ceremony over the noise of Jane’s happy sobs, her very surprised family who were also guests, and people seated nearby congratulating her.”
“Even the videographer cut to her frequently during the ceremony, and you can’t hear anything over the chatter.”
And when, when the best man gave his toast, “he apologized for being caught up in the moment, and then proceeded to talk about he and Jane’s future with nary a mention of us.”
… Well, surely it can’t get worse than that.
Except that “During the reception John and Jane became the primary focus of our guests. John even went out of his way to ask the band for a special dance just for him and Jane on the dance floor.”
This woman wrote into Dear Prudence to ask for advice on how to move forward, because she’s “shocked and angry” about what happened.
And honestly, it’s a miracle that she isn’t shocked and angry and in prison awaiting a murder trial.
Her husband, meanwhile, hasn’t spoken to the best man, and “has joked that he’ll resume his friendship when John and Jane give him a $ 40,000 check for ‘their half of the wedding."”
So not only were things bad enough that this couple feels like the best man stole their thunder hard enough that half of the wedding was theirs …
But this was an $ 80,000 wedding.
Good ol’ Prudence advised the woman to encourage her husband to have “a difficult conversation” with the best man about what happened in an attempt to save the friendship.
However, Twitter was not so kind.
“Unbelievably rude and self-absorbed,” one person tweeted. “During the fecking ceremony?! Their asses wouldn’t have got into my reception!”
“DO NOT TRY THIS AT MY WEDDING,” another advised. “I can fight in a tux.”
One particularly imaginative person gave the advice to “Stay friendly. Go to their wedding. Take a [poop emoji] in the aisle mid ceremony. Walk away. Even Steven.”
Makes sense to us.

Lady Gaga"s Best Friend Dies of Cancer
Lady Gaga is in need of your thoughts, prayers and condolences.
The singer’s long-time best friend, Sonja Durham, died on Friday after having been diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer.
Durham’s husband, Andre, confirmed the sad news yesterday afternoon, saying his wife passed away “peacefully and beautifully” in their home.
Durham served for a number of years as Lady Gaga’s assistant and executive director.
She played a major role in the singer’s life, both personally and professionally, as their relationship inspired Gaga’s single “Grigio Girls.”
This bonus track is featured on the deluxe edition of Joanne, which came out in October of 2016.
You should go listen to it if you can. It’s beautiful, with lyrics talking about how Gaga and her friends would get together and share deep cries over Durham.
Earlier this year, Durham accompanied Lady Gaga to the Super Bowl for her halftime performance; while Gaga dedicated an acoustic version of “Edge of Glory” to Durham, at Coachella several weeks later.
“My friend Sonja is very sick and I love her so much, and if it’s okay with you, I’d like to sing this song for her,” the star told the crowd upon doing so.
On Thursday, meanwhile, Gaga posted the above photo on Instagram and wrote the heartfelt message below as a caption.
Watching one of my best friends in the world show unfathomable courage, strength, and positivity while battling cancer has really changed my life.
Thank you Sonja for inspiring me and all of us everyday with your joy. I love you so much it brings tears to my eyes just to think of all the years we’ve spent together backstage running the show, taking care of each other.
You are one of a kind. I’m so proud of you.

Lady Gaga, who had previously suffered from breast cancer, referred to Durham as her “guardian angel” in an earlier blog post.
Following Sonja’s passing, the hashtah #RIPSonja started to trend on Twitter.
Durham had been close friends with Gaga for about eight years. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and in recent months it had spread to her lungs and brain.

David Eason: Jenelle Evans is the Best Mom EVER!!!
It’s been an extraordinarily rough week for Jenelle Evans … and it’s only Tuesday.
Things got off to a rocky start when Jenelle’s feud with David Eason’s sister escalated in a social media shoot-out over the weekend.
Shortly thereafter, Jenelle revealed that her mother was preventing her from seeing her son Jace on Mother’s Day.
Once again, she broke the news to fans using her preferred medium: the unhinged social media tirade.
In between going off on Eason’s sister and tearing into her own mother, Jenelle took some time to express gratitude for the love and support of her fiance and three children.
Eason has stood by Evans during her most recent difficulties, and he recently offered encouragement and praise in a lengthy Instagram post:
“Thank you babe for being such a great mother to our children! They love you so much and even Maryssa is completely attached to you now! I don’t know where I would be without your love and compassion,” he wrote.
“You are the sweetest person I know and you deal with more crap from people and kids on a daily basis than most people would be able to handle.
“You are always such a loving and caring person and you are always sure to pay attention to other people’s feelings. Thank you mostly for just being yourself babe, you are so perfect!”
Nice of Eason to offer some kind words during a tumultuous time in Jenelle’s life, but 1. Every time in Jenelle’s life is tumultuous, and 2. As with everything involving the Carolina Hurricane, there’s some serious shade and a bit of weirdness here.
For starters, Eason claims Jenelle’s kids from her first two baby daddies as his own, which would be weird under any circumstances, but is especially strange considering Eason is a jerk to Jenelle’s kids.
On top of that, Eason is clearly gushing about Jenelle’s relationship with his daughter in response to her online feuds with his sister and his baby mama, and just feels trashy to involve kids in that way.
He concluded his online love-fest with a photo of Jenelle and a caption reading:
“You are so great to my baby, she looks up to you.”
If the thought of a young woman looking up to Jenelle Evans doesn’t keep you up nights, we don’t know what will.
