Lionel Richie Really Hopes His Daughter Stops Doing Scott Disick
Lionel Richie is not in denial.
He’s well aware of what’s going on between his teenage daughter and Scott Disick.
But that doesn’t mean the legendary singer has to like it… or even truly accept it as legitimate.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph this weekend, the Grammy Award winner addressed the often-drunk elephant in the room, talking for the first time about Sofia Richie choosing to actually date Kourtney Kardashian’s baby daddy.
Yes, choosing.
Why would anyone choose to be with Scott Disick?
It’s a question to which Lionel does not have an answer.
“She’s 19,” he told the aforementioned publication, adding:
“When you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know.
“But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise.”
That’s likely the smartest course of action.
No one out there thinks Sofia will marry Scott or anything… so the relationship will likely fizzle out.
It’s just taking longer to do so than we previously imagined it would.
What looked like a fling at first has evolved (devolved?) into a full-blown, steady romance, as Richie posted the above photo of herself with Disick in Valentine’s Day.
She went on to write that Disick gifted her with flowers for the occasion.
Moreover, the C-Listers have taken trips to Mexico and Italy together.
What the heck, right?!?
There’s a 15-year age difference between Sofia and Scott and, in case we haven’t mentioned it yet, the latter is Scott Disick.
He likes to drink more than he likes to hang out with his kids and he’s never come across as anything more than an attention-seeking lugnut.
Added Lionel in his interview:
“Now I know what my parents meant when I came through the door with my Afro and my girlfriend and said ‘Dad, I’m in love’ and [he] looked at me and said ‘Okay, we’re going to leave you alone for a minute and you’ll figure it out.’
“My daughter is getting me back for my Afro days!”
This is one of those times where someone is clearly joking and yet… not.
Asked what Disick is like as a person, Lionel had only nice things to say. He didn’t take any bait.
“From what I met of him he’s a very nice guy,” the artist said.
Asked why he’s with Lionel’s child, Disick allegedly recently praised her affection for hot sex.
Sorry, Lionel. We should have warned you prior to posting a link to that story.
Lionel Richie will soon co-host the new version of American Idol, which premieres on ABC on March 11.
So you’ll be seeing a lot more of him over the coming weeks and months, just as he hopes to stop seeing Sofia and Scott together.
“When you hang around the reality world, who knows what you are really doing?” Lionel concluded.
“This is a well-oiled machine, the Kardashian machine. I don’t really know what to think. I told Sofia I will have no opinion.
“I’ll continue to be my cheerful self and move on.”

Lionel Richie: I Hope Scott Disick and Sofia Richie Break Up!
You think that you’re having a bad 2017? Well, you are. All of humanity is. But imagine if, on top of everything, you have a beautiful teenage daughter who is dating notorious womanizer Scott Disick.
Well, that’s what has Lionel Richie scared to death right now. Sofia Richie has been on a veritable world tour with Scott and her father is understandably worried.
But, after Scott and Sofia’s recent fight, his long personal nightmare may be over.
Scott Disick spent most of 2017 banging enough teen models to walk a fashion show.
(For a clothing line that we imagine would be titled: “Regret”)
The only thing that he went through faster than 19-year-old beauties was alcohol.
But after all of that — embarrassing himself and his family, health scares, and generally spiraling with his self-destructive behavior, Scott seems to have mellowed out … a little.
And many believe that Scott now dating Sofia Richie is a big part of that.
Don’t get us wrong — he and Sofia have been jetting off to one destination after another. It’s not like they’re playing house in the suburbs somewhere.
But compared to Scott’s months-long bender this summer? He’s acting calm and, for him, well-behaved.
Mostly.
Recently, Scott and Sofia’s ongoing sexytime adventures have taken them to Miami.
Page Six reports that Scott Disick and Sofia Richie had some sort of huge fight while partying in the Gunshine State … er, Sunshine State.
“They were arguing and definitely in a fight,” Page Six‘s source relayed.
And it looks like Sofia Richie was the one who was unhappy.
“[Richie] wouldn’t even talk to him. He grabbed her neck to try and kiss her, and she wasn’t having it. They ended up leaving.”
Oh boy.
Folks, no matter what romantic dramas about improbably attractive doctors might tell you, arguments — especially heated ones — are not necessary for healthy relationships. And they can often be a sign that something is wrong.
Now, the two did arrive elsewhere later that evening and Sofia appeared to be having a good time.
But, as we said, arguments can betray underlying issues.
We don’t know if Sofia and Scott are headed for splitsville, but it sounds like Lionel Richie sure hopes so.
HollywoodLife reports that Sofia’s father is hopeful that the reports of an argument herald a breakup:
“Lionel is hoping any fight that may have occurred between Sofia and Scott ends the relationship for good.”
The two of them are reportedly still enjoying Miami, but as we said, that fight gives him reason to hope.
“Lionel has been uncomfortable with the age difference between Sofia and Scott and has been struggling while watching his daughter fall in love with an infamous player like Scott.”
Again, that age difference is of 15 years.
The age difference between Scott and Sofia is old enough to babysit Scott’s three children.
“Lionel is afraid that the Scott will break Sofia’s heart and so the concerned father hopes that whatever disagreement Scott and Sofia may be dealing with will be the beginning of the end of their romance.”
Better to nip things in the bud and deal with heartbreak early in a relationship than to have Sofia give her best dating years to Scott and have him disappoint her later.
(Seriously; just look at Kourtney)
Just because this relationship seems to be good for and stabilizing for Scott doesn’t mean that it’s great for Sofia Richie.
She’s an adult and she can live her life how she chooses and bang whomever she likes.
But the 15-year age difference … well, it’s rubbing plenty of people the wrong way. So we don’t think that this is just a matter of Lionel Richie being an overprotective or, worse, controlling dad.
If you’ll recall, when Sofia was dating Justin Bieber a couple of years ago, Lionel refused to criticize his daughter’s romantic choice. Even though we’re talking about The Biebs when he was arguably at his worst, behavior-wise.
So for Lionel to speak out publicly about Sofia, saying that he’s scared to death? That’s genuine concern.
If Sofia’s being a calming influence on Scott, what if he’s influencing her right back?
Something to consider.

Lionel Richie Speaks Out About Sofia Richie Dating Scott Disick: I"m Scared to Death!
Envision this for a moment:
Your teenage daughter is dating a man nearly twice her own age. That man is infamous for his love of partying, his destructive addiction to booze, and his compulsion to chase every pretty young thing he sees.
Lionel Richie doesn’t have to imagine that nightmare scenario — because he’s living it. Sofia Richie and Scott Disick are dating.
And he’s speaking out about exactly how he feels about the relationship.
Remember those old Gossip Girl ads that used their negative reviews as a selling point?
They included lines like “every parent’s nightmare,” coupled with steamy photos from the show’s first episodes.
That was a great ad campaign.
But unlike the contents of that epic series, Lionel Richie is actually experiencing a parent’s nightmare.
We first reported that Sofia Richie and Scott Disick appeared to be dating a while back, but the couple only made it official very recently, with some cuddly photos on social media and some wildly unsubtle PDA out in public.
Sofia Richie is 19.
Scott Disick is 34.
Scott is also a notorious womanizer, and his friends are reportedly worried that his binge drinking and alcoholism might kill him.
If nothing else, Scott Disick’s liver disease is evidence enough that he has a problem.
But a diagnosis is rarely enough to truly prevent someone with self-sabotaging tendencies from spiraling into further self-destructive behavior.
Sofia Richie deserves an age-appropriate, stable romantic interest. We don’t think that Scott Disick fits the bill.
And, apparently, neither does her father.
Remember how Lionel Richie (as we told you ages ago) and Katy Perry are going to be judges on the new American Idol, along with the only recently announced Luke Bryan?
Us Weekly caught up with the music legend at the New York City American Idol auditions, where Lionel Richie revealed his thoughts on Sofia Richie’s new relationship.
“Have I been in shock?! I’m the dad, come on.”
We’ll take that as a “yes.”
And don’t worry — he provided more context.
When Us asked Lionel if he was happy for them, he did not answer in the affirmative.
“I’m scared to death, are you kidding me?”
That’s … not mincing words.
One could look at this as problematic.
As yet another example of a father acting as if he owns his daughter or her sexuality. You know, like those gross “rules for dating my daughter” types who want their daughters to stay virgins forever but who applaud their sons for enjoying their lives and making their own sexual decisions.
If you’ll recall, Sofia was once romantically entangled with another notorious bad boy often associated with Kourtney Kardashian:
Justin Bieber.
Bieber is only a few years older than Sofia. Though some of Bieber’s behavior is out there, even at his worst, the Biebs has never been able to really hold a candle to Scott Disick’s bad behavior over this past summer.
So while Lionel Richie wasn’t saying anything along the lines of “go on, Sofia, and get that Justin Bieber dick while the getting’s still good,” which is what some of us might have said, he refused to condemn the relationship when asked.
Mostly, he just seemed uncomfortable to be asked about his daughter’s love life and would clearly have preferred to just go home in peace with whatever kind of citrus beverage he had in his hand.
We think that it’s very telling that Lionel had no such restraint when asked about Sofia and Scott.
To his credit, Lionel Richie doesn’t seem to be trying to assert some sort of paternal ownership over Sofia to end this.
She’s an adult and can make her own choices.
(Even though Scott Disick’s appeal seems to have expired rather sharply over the past six months or so)
But, as someone who loves Sofia, of course Lionel is scared.
His daughter could get her heart broken when Scott moves on to the next hot young thang who crosses his path.
Or, worse, if Scott’s behavior catches up with him and he suffers a health crisis … Sofia doesn’t need to go through that.

Lionel Richie: Joining American Idol?!?
We’ve known for weeks now that Katy Perry will be joining ABC’s retooled version of American Idol, but we’ve been wondering which other big names would show up as the other judges.
According to TMZ, producers think the ideal second judge would be Lionel Richie, and they are probably right. He has an expansive career in the music business and has won many awards in support of this.
The only thing that may cause some issues is Richie’s fee. We have no idea what the heck the producers would offer him, but Katy Perry’s $ 25 million fee will likely make negotiations difficult.
Yes, we’re still in shock that Katy got that much, but we’re happy for her. Her people sure know how to negotiate to get their client a good amount of money for her services.
There are also rumors that Ryan Seacrest is ready to sign on the dotted line to host the series. He will apparently receive between $ 10 and $ 15 million for his duties.
With the potential of Richie being attached, something tells us he would command a higher fee than Perry because of the length of his time in the music industry.
Will the producers play ball and offer him that? It’s probably a good thing that there’s no confirmation on whether someone has reached out to him yet.
With two spots left on the judging panel, it has been hinted that the producers would be looking to hire the final few people with a reduced fee.
We’re struggling to come to the conclusion that all of this will be worth it. The last season on Fox averaged 9.1 million viewers and a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49.
Part of the reason it rated that well was that it was widely publicized as the final season. The show will not have been off the air for even two years when it returns in spring 2018.
Could ABC be making a huge mistake by throwing so much money at the show? Will it even be worthwhile when the ratings come in?
It could be one of the most exciting developments of the 2017-2018 season. What do you think?
