Christopher Boykin: Mourned by Rob Dyrdek, Other MTV Stars

As previously reported, Christopher Boykin is dead at the age of 45.

The bodyguard-turned-reality-star passed away on Tuesday from causes currently unknown, although it is presumed a heart attack is responsible for his unexpected death.

We’ll know more when an autopsy is performed.

Known affectionately as “Big Black,” Boykin was a former member of the United States Navy who rose to fame as part of the MTV series Rob & Big.

He helped anchor that fun reality show as one half of the title show duo.

From 2006 through 2008, Boykin played pranks and engaged in ridiculous antics with his best friend, professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek.

Despite a brief falling out after the series wrapped, Boykin mostly remained close to Dyrdek, appearing on other MTV shows opposite his close pal – and also remaining linked to him forever in the eyes of fans and followers.

And now Dyrdek has spoken out on Boykin’s passing.

“My heart is broken,” Rob wrote on Twitter last night in response to the awful news.

Keeping it short and simple, Dyrdek added:

“I don’t want to write this post. I don’t want to believe that this is reality. I am so thankful for you.”

In a follow-up message, Dyrdek added:

“We truly were brothers that lived an unexpected unforgettable adventure. I just can’t fathom that it would end so suddenly.”

And then there was this third Tweet: “You will forever be in my heart.”

And, finally, the most heartbreaking Twitter post of all from Dyrdek:

The 6′ 6,” 375 pound reality star starred as Dyrdek’s bodyguard on 19 episodes of the aforementioned MTV show.

He is survived by his nine-year old daughter, Isis Rae, and a number of other MTV personalities also mourned his passing on Tuesday evening.

Wrote Chanel West Coast on Twitter:

RIP @bigblack1972. My heart is crushed hearing this news. I’ll never forget all the times you made me laugh. So many epic memories with you. You put smiles on a lot of people’s faces and you will be missed dearly by SO many.

My prayers go out to your family and loved ones. Keep them laughing up in heaven.

Juicy J, who was also a co-star of Big Black’s, took to social media to remember the late MTV star via a heartbroken Tweet.

“Rip Christopher “Big Black” Boykins,” wrote the rapper.

Steelo Brim (from Ridiculousness) also shared a touching post on his Instagram. It reas as follows:

“My brain can’t truly comprehend this. As soon as we met we became friends. Genuine, Funny, Family Man, just an Overall Great guy.

“May God Rest his soul and he make everyone in heaven smile like he did on earth! LOVE!”

Finally, MTV released an official statement in the wake of this sad news.

“MTV is deeply saddened to learn the news of Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin’s passing,” it reads, concluding:

“He was a long time and beloved member of the MTV family and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time.”

We share this sentiment.

We send our condolences to all who knew Boykin well and all who will continue to mourn his loss for many days, weeks and months to come.

Erin Moran: Mourned and Remembered by Happy Days Costars

Yesterday, we heard the sad news that Erin Moran, an actress best known for her role on Happy Days, had passed away at the age of 56.

At this point in time, the cause of her death is unknown — officials have scheduled an autopsy to clear everything up.

Right now, we know that around 4:00 yesterday afternoon in Indiana, authorities received a call about an “unresponsive female.”

But when EMTs arrived to the location, the woman — Erin — was already dead.

It was a sad ending to what seemed to be a sad life.

She began her acting career when she was only five years old. She appeared in commercials and had small roles in various television shows until she landed the role of Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days.

Erin played Joanie for the full ten seasons that Happy Days ran, and she played her again for one season of the spin-off series Joanie Loves Chachi.

She had a few other roles after the show ended, most recently in the film Not Another B Movie in 2010, but she never had the same level of fame or success since.

Several reports claim that she began struggling with addiction issues, and she also struggled with her finances, eventually ending up completely broke.

But no matter what happened in her life, no matter what caused her to end up the way she did, one fact remains:

She was clearly well loved and respected by her Happy Days family.

Ron Howard, who played Erin’s big brother Richie Cunningham, remembered her on Twitter, writing “Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens.”

Henry Winkler, The Fonz himself, tweeted “OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon.”

Don Most, who played Richie’s friend Ralph, made a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, saying “I am so incredibly sad to hear about Erin. She was a wonderful, sweet, caring, talented woman.”

“As I write this I can’t really comprehend this right now. A very painful loss. It gives me some comfort to know that she’s with Tom, Al, Pat and Garry. Rest In Peace, sweet Erin.”

He’s referring, of course, to Tom Bosley, Al Molinaro, and Pat Morita, all beloved actors from Happy Days, and Garry Marshall, the show’s creator.

Anson Williams, who played Richie’s other buddy, Potsie, released a statement of his own that read “Erin was a person who made everyone around her feel better.”

“She truly cared about others first, a true angel. I will miss her so much, but know that she is in God’s hands. RIP sweet angel.”

Her loss is clearly being felt deeply by those who knew her, and it’s such a testament to the kind of person she apparently was.

Our condolences to all of Erin’s friends and family.

Clay Adler: Mourned by Jennifer Lawrence, Considered a Hero in Death

Clay Adler is no longer with us.

But more than just his spirit will live on.

As tragically reported on Tuesday, Adler committed suicide late last month when he shot himself in the head during an afternoon out in the desert with friends.

A star on MTV reality series Newport Harbor for its two-season run, Adler had landed a couple small roles in a couple small movies back in 2009, actually befriending Jennifer Lawrence in the process.

The two hit Hollywood right about the same time.

“Clay brings Jennifer back to her humble beginnings and hearing that he took his own life really has made Jennifer feel heartbroken,” a source told Hollywood Life of the Oscar winner’s reaction to this news.

The insider concluded:

“It is really sad because she remembers him fondly and never wants to hear anything like this happen to anyone… she is really bummed out over it.”

Adler’s father, meanwhile, has spoken directly to People Magazine.

He has confirmed that his son died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but also that “out of every bad thing,” can come a “good thing.”

Meaning what, exactly?

“Clay had requested that his organs – and he did this years ago when he applied for a driver’s license – that his organs be donated to people,” says Frank Adler, telling the publication that Clay has already “saved about for or five lives.”

There were no drugs and no alcohol found in the 27-year old’s system at the time of his suicide.

But Adler had reportedly suffered for years from mental illness.

Still, Frank says, he was unaware that his child was struggling with anything specific in his personal life.

“There were no signs. No real signs,” he tells People, emphasizing that Clay “had been clean for several years.”

A funeral was held last month for Adler.

He shot himself on March 25, but doctors were able to keep him alive an extra day so that family members could say goodbye and so that his organs could be properly harvested.

“They kept him alive a little bit longer so that he could do the donations we’re talking about,” says Frank.

“The hospital did say that he’s donated more than they’ve ever seen because his internals were in phenomenal shape.”

Frank says that several people have come forward to express their gratitude for Clay’s organ donations, meaning his son at least leaves behind a special legacy.

“That’s a good thing that came out of it,” Frank concludes. “Clay would be thrilled that these people are now living because of him.”

Bill Paxton: Mourned in Very Cool Way by Storm Chasers

At the time of his stunning death over the weekend, Bill Paxton was starring in Training Day, a lackluster drama on CBS.

Over the course of his impressive career, the actor was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards due to his performance on HBO’s Big Love.

To many, however, Paxton will be best remembered for his role in 1996’s Twister, an action movie in which Paxton starred opposite Helen Hunt as a professional storm chaser.

It is against this backdrop that hundreds of real-life storm chasers paid tribute to Paxton on Sunday.

They spelled out the veteran actor’s initials (“BP”) using GPS coordinates on a map across the “tornado alley” in Kansas and Oklahoma.

The “tornado alley” boundaries are not clearly defined, but it spreads across 19 states.

According to John Wetter, who works with the National Weather Service, storm chasers have never before spelled out the initials of a non–storm chaser before.

But the gesture symbolizes what kind of influence Paxton and Twister had on this profession.

“There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of meteorologists today – myself included – who were impacted by the movie Twister and the role Bill played in that,” Wetter told the Associated Press, adding:

“Twister was kind of the first time in a mass media place the meteorologist became cool, if only for a little while.”

BP tribute

Paxton passed away on Saturday following complications from heart surgery.

It is believed he suffered a stroke.

“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker,” his rep said in a statement soon afterward.

“Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

The actor is survived by his wife, Louise Newbury, and two children James and Lydia.

He was honored at the 89th Annual Academy Awards during the In Memoriam segment on Sunday night, although not in the video itself because his death took place just 24 hours before the show aired.

Said Jennier Aniston, staving off tears, upon introducing the In Memoriam photo gallery and clip snow:

Tonight, as we celebrate together, we also take a moment to mourn the many legends we lost this past year.

Whether they were a musical prince leading the revolution on a concert stage or a movie princess leading the rebellion in a galaxy far, far away, a force of nature in front of the camera or a force driving it, each and every one was a cherished member of our Hollywood family.

As was beloved actor and friend who left us just yesterday, Bill Paxton. All were loved and all will be missed.

Amen.
