Sally Field Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Burt Reynolds

Hollywood has lost a legend.

And Sally Field has lost a true love.

As previously reported, Burt Reynolds died on Thursday of a heart attack, passing away at his home in Jupiter, Florida of a heart attack.

The legendary actor was 82 years old.

Upon learning of his death, a number of entertainment industry heavyweights have expressed their sympathy and their sorrow (scroll down), but one name stands out from all the rest right now.

Sally Field met Reyonds on the set of the 1977 smash hit comedy, Smokey and the Bandit.

The actress and the actor would date for five years… while also co-starring in several more films, including Smokey and the Bandit II, The End and Hooper.

Although they split for good in 1982, Reynolds recounted the romance over 30 years later in an interview with Vanity Fair, referring to Field as “the love of my life.”

And it’s clear now that Reyonds was never far from the two-time Oscar winner’s heart, either.

“There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away,” Field said in a statement this afternoon, adding of Reynolds:

“They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.”

Reynolds’ manager, Erik Kritzer, confirmed the passing of this big screen icon, while his niece, Nancy Lee Hess, said the following on Thursday:

“My uncle was not just a movie icon; he was a generous, passionate and sensitive man who was dedicated to his family, friends, fans and acting students.

“He has had health issues, however, this was totally unexpected. He was tough. Anyone who breaks their tailbone on a river and finishes the movie is tough. And that’s who he was.

“My uncle was looking forward to working with Quentin Tarantino (in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and the amazing cast that was assembled.”

In recent years, Reynolds used a cane while out in public. His last appearance in front of a big crowd took place at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.

In the wake of his passing, nearly everyone across Hollywood chimed in with a story about Reynolds or with a few thoughts about the highly-respected actor. To wit:

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor – check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family.

Reba McEntire: My good friend has started a new journey. Rest in my peace my friend. I’ll never forget the wonderful times we spent together.

Sylvester Stallone: A sad day, my friend BURT REYNOLDS Has passed away. I remember him back in 1979, he always reminded me that I should’ve cast him as Colonel Trautman in FIRST BLOOD , I said that’s impossible, because you’re too expensive and too famous, and probably tougher than Rambo ! He laughed , He had a great sense of humor and I enjoyed his company so much… RIP Buddy

burt tributes

Goldie Hawn: There is only One Burt Reynolds. One! I loved our time our laughs and fun. Now your angels will giggle at your silly jokes as they hold you lightly as you rest dear one.

Kevin Bacon: Im 19.  I get a few lines in a movie. The megastar on set was really nice and cool to this punk actor(me) for no reason. The director called me before the movie came out to tell me I had hit the cutting room floor. But I never forgot that Star. Thanks Burt. RIP.

Paul Wesley: Burt Reynolds was one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever worked with. He took me under his wing when I was first starting out as an actor and offered friendship, advice and guidance. I’ll never forget how much that meant to me.

Michael Chiklis: I owe my career, at least in part, to the great Burt Reynolds. Heartbroken to learn of his passing. He was one of a kind. A fun loving, charismatic talent who did many good deeds quietly, without personal expectation but rather out of the kindness of his extraordinary heart. RIP.

May Burt Reynolds rest in peace.

Burt Reynolds Dies; Hollywood Icon Was 82

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as a bonafide screen legend is no longer with us.

Several media outlets are now reporting that Burt Reynolds died at his home in Florida on Thursday.

Burt Reynolds

The actor was 82 years old.

Sources say Reynolds was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.

His death was confirmed moments ago by his agent, Todd Eisner.

Burt Reynolds Red Carpet

“No comment, just heartbreaking,” Eisner said in a press release.

Known for such iconic films as The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Deliverance, and Boogie Nights, Reynolds amassed more than 200 film and television credits over the course of his 60-year career.

A committed craftsman to the very end, Reynolds was in the process of filming Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming Once Upon a Time In Hollywood at the time of his death.

He recently wrapped filming on Defining Moments, which is set for release in December.

Though the commercial peak of Reynolds’ career came in the 1970s, when he starred in a string of blockbusters, he enjoyed a renaissance later in life.

It was his work in the latter half of his career – culminating in an Oscar nomination for Boogie Nights in 1998 – that earned him the lasting respect of the acting world.

Of course, any discussion of Reynolds’ career would be incomplete without acknowledging what might have been.

Among the jobs he famously turned down:

B. Reynolds

Han Solo in Star Wars, John McClane in Die Hard, R.P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Garrett Breedlove in Terms of Endearment were some of the many roles Reynolds passed on at the peak of his career.

“I was interested in having a good time,” Reynolds wrote in his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me.

“I didn’t open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn’t interested in challenging myself as an actor.

“As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles. By the time I finally woke up and tried to get it right, nobody would give me a chance.”

Burt In Smokey

But even without those now-iconic roles on his resume, the highlights of Reynolds’ career are staggeringly impressive.

The number one box office draw each year from 1978-1982, the Michigan native had four films in theaters at once in ’78.

Throughout the history of the film industry, only a handful of actors have enjoyed such popular success for so long as Burt Reynolds.

And today millions of fans are mourning the loss of a true film legend.

Ryan Reynolds Responds to Blake Lively Unfollow: I"m Very Sad ...

Earlier this week, Blake Lively unfollowed Ryan Reynolds, and it was no accident.

A lot of fans immediately feared the worst for this gorgeous married couple.

Now, Ryan is speaking up … in true Ryan Reynolds fashion.

In an interview with Australian radio show Smallzy Surgery (it’s Australian and a radio show, so of course that’s its name), Ryan acknowledged that, yes, his wife did unfollow him.

“Yes, she did. I’m very sad about that.”

He goes on to share how it feels.

“Definitely stinks. It’s a terrible way to find out that I’ve been kicked out of the house, to be honest.”

As you may have gathered, this response is all tongue-in-cheek, as we’ll explain in a moment.

“Absolutely terrible. I don’t know where rage like that comes from.”

He even suggests what it would be like to explain this situation to their child.

“Mommy unfollowed Daddy on Instagram. My child would just fart and then walk away.”

There’s a reason that he’s in such good humor about this.

Because the unfollowing was nothing personal.

As we mentioned when Blake so famously unfollowed him, she also unfollowed almost everyone. And no, she’s not doing an Instagram purge.

It’s a stunt.

Blake Lively is currently following only 38 accounts on all of Instagram, and each belongs to a woman named Emily Nelson.

Blake Lively is starring as a woman named Emily Nelson in the upcoming film, A Simple Favor.

In the film, Emily goes missing suddenly, leaving a mommy blogger (played by Anna Kendrick) who describes herself as Emily’s best friend guessing about what happened.

This is the sort of film with mystery, twists and turns, and even the appearance of a dead body at some point during the film.

Throughout, Anna Kendrick’s character comes to admit that she did not know Emily as well as she thought that she did.

The teaser trailer dropped on Wednesday, so Blake’s stunt’s timing was not a coincidence.

At present, that teaser trailer is the only post on her Instagram page.

Ryan Reynolds is playing along with the “unfollowed” because he’s goofy and lovable.

It also brings more attention to his wife’s project.

Of course, it just so happens that Ryan has a new movie of his own coming out soon.

Deadpool 2, the much-anticipated sequel of the spectacular first film, follows the fourth wall-shattering adventures of an unkillable pansexual anti-hero named Deadpool.

Marvel and DC have long parodied and copied each other in comics, but Deadpool (originally intended as Marvel’s answer to the DC villain, Deathstroke) has become a truly unique character with a dedicated fanbase.

And Ryan’s own sense of humor meshes extremely well with the character.

We suppose that one of the greatest things about two young, stunning actors being married is that they can support each other’s projects.

Supporting each other is one thing, but using long-standing divorce rumors to promote a film is taking an extra step.

While Ryan’s film is more anticipated and is likely to draw a larger audience, many are intrigued by Blake’s movie.

And you have to admit that this is a great marketing strategy.

After all, how many people might never have even heard about this film, let alone researched it, had it not been for this marketing ploy?

It’s always nice to see social media marketing done well.

And, of course, to see a cooperative husband support his wife’s work.

Blake Lively: Did She Just Confirm She"s Divorcing Ryan Reynolds?

Last month, a rumor that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were headed for divorce made its way across the social media landscape.

At the time, the notion seemed somewhat ridiculous.

After all, Reynolds and Lively have long enjoyed a reputation as one of Hollywood’s happiest and most stable couples.

But to shock and chagrin of fans, reports of Blake and Ryan calling it quits just kept rolling in.

“The past few years, Ryan’s been working out of town while Blake stays home with the kids,” a source told Us Weekly.

“The distance between them has taken its toll.”

Reynolds employed his signature sardonic wit to shoot down the first round of reports:

“I wish,” the actor tweeted. “I could use a little ‘me time."”

Fans were relieved, of course, and the controversy was thought to be over and done with.

But earlier this week, Lively’s Instagram followers noticed that something was amiss on her page.

As Radar Online points out, not only had Lively deleted all photos of Reynolds from her page, she had also unfollowed him and changed her bio so that it read simply:

“What happened to Emily?”

Adding fuel to the fire, Lively then followed 28 accounts of women named Emily Nelson.

And like that, Emily Nelson became 2018’s answer to “Becky with the good hair.”

Fans assumed that Reynolds had been caught cheating and that Lively was determined to get to the bottom of his infidelity by hunting Nelson down.

Sadly, this high drama nosedived into a disappointing conclusion today when it was revealed that “Emily Nelson” is merely the name of a character Lively is playing in an upcoming film,

Yes, it was all an elaborate promotional stunt.

Whenever you roll your eyes about something like this, some smart ass always has to chime in with, “Well, I guess it worked! You’re talking about it, aren’t you?!”

Sure. In that sense, it worked.

But apparently the film in question – A Simple Favor – doesn’t open until September!

Does Blake really think this stunt is gonna stick with potential moviegoers for the next four months?!

She’d have to actually divorce Ryan to win our attention for that long.

Ryan Reynolds Responds to Blake Lively Divorce Rumors

Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively got married back in 2012, the actors have served as the embodiment of #CouplesGoals.

Aside from the fact that they’re both absurdly photogenic, Ryan and Blake seem to have the kind of lighthearted rapport that enabled A-list couples to navigate the rough waters of Hollywood monogamy.

But despite – or perhaps because of – the fairytale appearance of Blake and Ryan’s marriage, a new tabloid report has the couple on the verge of calling it quits.

According to OK! magazine, Reynolds and Lively are contemplating divorce due to the strain placed on their marriage by his work schedule.

“The past few years, Ryan’s been working out of town while Blake stays home with the kids,” a source tells the tabloid.

“The distance between them has taken its toll.”

A believable enough scenario, we suppose.

But if there’s any truth to OK’s claims, it comes as news to Reynolds, who denied the report in the sarcastic fashion that’s long made him one of the most amusing celebs on social media.

“I wish,” Reynolds tweeted in response to the article.

“I could use a little ‘me time."”

Reynolds’ sardonic tone might come as a surprise for those who don’t follow him on Twitter and who know him best from his pre-Deadpool work as a lead in romantic comedies.

However, those who have enjoyed his social media antics know this is all very on-brand for the actor.

This is, after all, the same purveyor of comic gold who’s been known to make fun of his fans’ crappy boyfriends and encourage followers to get his name tattooed on their ass.

Needless to say, Ryan’s tweets are not to be taken too seriously.

By all accounts, however, Ryan and Blake take their marriage and their duties as parents quite seriously.

Late last year, lively opened up about the struggles of raising two children despite a pair of very hectic work schedules.

“My husband and I don’t work at the same time, so we all go together as a family,” Lively told People magazine.

“If we’re away as a family, it’s never more than for a day. We stay together.”

Sounds like Lively and Reynolds won’t be calling it quits anytime soon – but that doesn’t mean he’ll stop lovingly roasting his wife on Twitter.
