Burt Reynolds Dies; Hollywood Icon Was 82

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as a bonafide screen legend is no longer with us.

Several media outlets are now reporting that Burt Reynolds died at his home in Florida on Thursday.

Burt Reynolds

The actor was 82 years old.

Sources say Reynolds was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.

His death was confirmed moments ago by his agent, Todd Eisner.

Burt Reynolds Red Carpet

“No comment, just heartbreaking,” Eisner said in a press release.

Known for such iconic films as The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, Deliverance, and Boogie Nights, Reynolds amassed more than 200 film and television credits over the course of his 60-year career.

A committed craftsman to the very end, Reynolds was in the process of filming Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming Once Upon a Time In Hollywood at the time of his death.

He recently wrapped filming on Defining Moments, which is set for release in December.

Though the commercial peak of Reynolds’ career came in the 1970s, when he starred in a string of blockbusters, he enjoyed a renaissance later in life.

It was his work in the latter half of his career – culminating in an Oscar nomination for Boogie Nights in 1998 – that earned him the lasting respect of the acting world.

Of course, any discussion of Reynolds’ career would be incomplete without acknowledging what might have been.

Among the jobs he famously turned down:

B. Reynolds

Han Solo in Star Wars, John McClane in Die Hard, R.P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Garrett Breedlove in Terms of Endearment were some of the many roles Reynolds passed on at the peak of his career.

“I was interested in having a good time,” Reynolds wrote in his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me.

“I didn’t open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn’t interested in challenging myself as an actor.

“As a result, I missed a lot of opportunities to show I could play serious roles. By the time I finally woke up and tried to get it right, nobody would give me a chance.”

Burt In Smokey

But even without those now-iconic roles on his resume, the highlights of Reynolds’ career are staggeringly impressive.

The number one box office draw each year from 1978-1982, the Michigan native had four films in theaters at once in ’78.

Throughout the history of the film industry, only a handful of actors have enjoyed such popular success for so long as Burt Reynolds.

And today millions of fans are mourning the loss of a true film legend.

Tab Hunter Dies; Hollywood Legend and Gay Icon Was 86

Tab Hunter, the long-time Hollywood heartthrob who portrayed Joe Hardy in the film Damn Yankees!, died Sunday might in Santa Barbara.

He was 86 years old.

Considered a fan favorite of movie fans in the 1950s, Hunter passed away from a blood clot that led to a heart attack, according to his romantic partner, Allan Glaser.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Glaser said Hunter’s death was “unexpected and sudden.”

Elsewhere, a Facebook account linked to the star also announced his passing with a message that read as follows:

“SAD NEWS: Tab passed away tonight three days shy of his 87th birthday.

“Please honor his memory by saying a prayer on his behalf. He would have liked that.”

As part of his impressive resume, Hunter also recorded a number-one record and starred in two outlandish films with the drag queen Divine.

This last career achievement is notable for the following reason…

tabfb

After many decades of silence, Hunter confirmed long-gestating rumors about his homosexuality in his autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star, which was published in 2005.

He penned the memoir and made the personal admission after learning that someone else was planning to out him in a separate book.

Back in his professional prime, Hunter was more than just a leading man.

Due to his blonde hair and his physique, the actor covered numerous teen magazines and was even the main face (errrr, body?) of a 2000 book titled “Shirtless! The Hollywood Male Physique.”

After Hunter beat out James Dean and Paul Newman to play a young Marine in Raoul Walsh’s Battle Cry (1955), Warner Bros. picked up his option and signed him to a seven-year contract.

From there, he appeared in The Girl He Left Behind (1956) and Burning Hills (1956).

th

In 1958, Hunter was tabbed to play the central role in the big screen adaption of Damn Yankees! and then his career truly took off.

Long after he stopped anchoring movies, however, Hunter returned to the news after he came out of the closet.

He wrote at the time that he kept his homosexuality under wraps all those years ago because it was simply unheard of for a gay man to be a movie star.

“When you’re under contract to a studio,” he wrote, “your job is to do as they say. If you have a job, do your job.”

“I knew what I was,” Hunter told People Magazine in 2005. “I just never talked about it.”

Hunter and Glaser were together for over 30 years.

hunter

“If I had come out during my acting career in the 1950s, I would not have had a career,” Hunter said in an October 2017 interview, adding:

“Not much in Hollywood has changed in 60 years. I really didn’t talk about my sexuality until I wrote my autobiography.

“My film career had long since been over by then. I believe one’s sexuality is one’s own business. I really don’t go around discussing it. Call me ‘old school’ on that topic.”

A feature documentary about him, also titled Tab Hunter Confidential, was released in 2015 and produced by Glaser.

May Tab Hunter rest in peace.

Jinger Duggar in Pants: New Fashion Icon?

With each passing day, Duggar fans grow louder in demanding a Jinger Duggar pregnancy announcement. We don’t know when it will come. Some fans don’t know if it will come.

In the mean time, Jinger still wears pants with her husband’s blessing, as you’ll see in two new photos below. This time, though, her fashion choices caused fans to ask some questions.

And who better to talk women’s fashion than … Jeremy Vuolo?

Jinger Duggar, as a family “rebel,” continues to be a little divisive among Duggar fans.

Most conservative Christian families would be delighted at a woman who gets married right away to a conservative Christian man — without having premarital sex or any of the other, you know, things that most humans do.

And sure, plenty of Duggar fans applaud Jinger for getting a husband who has a few theological differences with her father …

(Of course, one of those differences is that Jeremy Vuolo thinks that the fundamentalist Duggars aren’t harsh enough against gay people, which … is a pretty extreme view)

… and who allows her to wear pants.

Other Duggar fans, however, continue to freak out whenever they see her wearing the devil’s leggings or whatever they think that pants are.

Jeremy Vuolo shared this photo of Jinger — again wearing pants, and included the caption:

“Standing outside Tenth Presbyterian Church where the late Dr. James Montgomery Boice pastored for 32 years. He was a remarkable gift to the church as a whole and is one of my and @jingervuolo’s favorite authors.”

Boice was a conservative theologian noted for his devotion to the Christian concept of Biblical Inerrancy.

Fans were less curious about dead religious thinkers and more about Jinger’s shoes.

Fan comments were, though harmless compared to some of the hate that Duggars get on social media, definitely fashion-oriented.

“Those shoes are giving me life! I need them in my life!”

(Kind of weird to see phrasing by Duggar fans that you’d expect to hear on, like, RuPaul’s Drag Race)

“What kind of shoes does she have on?”

It was Jeremy Vuolo who responded, lending his fashion expertise to identify the shoes as “Converse Chuck’s wedges.”

(For those interested, the full name of the shoes is Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Lux Wedge Sneakers, which is a ridiculously long name for a line of sneakers)

Odd to hear anyone looking to a Duggar daughter as a fashion icon or trendsetter though.

Under this photo, Jeremy Vuolo used a quote for his caption:

“‘A true wife is the husband’s better half, his flower of beauty, and his heart’s treasure. In her company he finds his earthly heaven; she is the light of his home, the comfort of his soul.’ ~ C.H. Spurgeon”

Spurgeon was an 18th Century conservative theologian. He was a diehard Baptist who was also a noted abolitionist.

Comments here were also less interested in religious doctrine or quotes about marriage, and instead commented on Jinger’s choice of clothing:

“OMG they let her wear jeans.”

(The “they” is literally just Jeremy Vuolo … we’ll get to that in a moment)

“Omg Jinger you are STUNNING!” another fan wrote. “Those jeans look so nice on you!”

That second compliment was a nice way of addressing the jeans-wearing without sounding ignorant.

The first … well, if you keep up with the Duggar daughters on their adventures in adulthood, it can be frustrating to read comments from people who think that Jim Bob’s allowing this.

Under the particular brand of Christian fundamentalism to which Jim Bob adheres, his daughters may not wear pants … until they are married off, at which point they are effectively the property of their husbands and their husbands can make those kinds of choices.

Jeremy Vuolo has stated that he doesn’t believe that Jesus saves people to make them wear skirts, which sounds like sound theological reasoning to us.

Combat Jack Dies; Hip Hop Icon Was 48

Sad news out of the music world today, as iconic media personality Combat Jack has passed away at the age of 48.

Considered one of the most influential figures in the world of hip-hop, Jack’s meteoric rise from entertainment lawyer to internationally-known intellectual and influencer is the stuff of legend.

News of Jack’s (real name Reggie Osse) passing was confirmed this morning by his family.

Osse had been battling colon cancer for quite some time.

After getting his start as an attorney for Def Jam Records during the label’s heyday in the ’90s, Jack retired from law in 2001 to focus on writing and documenting the history and cultural impact of hip-hop in America.

Shortly after leaving the legal profession behind, Jack wrote the book Bling, focusing on the relationship between rap music and lavish jewelry.

Jack quickly became one of the most sought-after and esteemed bloggers in the hip-hop world.

He eventually launched his own site, Daily Math.

Younger rap fans are likely most familiar with Jack as host of The Combat Jack Show podcast, which debuted in 2010.

The show quickly developed a devoted following and became the flagship of a network of podcasts produced by Jack.

In the hours since news of his death went public, Jack has become a trending topic on Twitter thanks to loving tributes from friends, family, and a legion of A-list fans.

“Rest in peace Combat Jack. Thank you for always being kind and genuine,” tweeted Run the Jewels rapper El-P.

“#rip Combat Jack one of the realest,” wrote Big Boi of Outkast.

Combat Jack

“RIP Combat Jack, who let us into his family and onto his podcast, who brought donuts to our apartment and carried stories for days. He left the Lil B show screaming “swag!” and saying he’d seen the future.

“A great laugh, a great mind, a great friend and a better man,” tweeted rap duo It’s the Real.

“At a loss for words. Rest In Peace to Combat Jack, one of the most incredible individuals I’ve ever known,” wrote author Karen Civil.

“DAMN MAN REST IN PEACE TO MY BROTHER @Combat_Jack ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO EVER EMBRACE ME IN THIS WHOLE SH-T. MY HEART IS HEAVY MAN F-CK. LOVE ALWAYS,” tweeted Action Bronson.

Thousands have let Jack himself do the talking, retweeting this beloved quote from one hip hop’s most revered intellectuals:

“Internets, you know what time it is: Dream them dreams, then man-up and live them dreams, because a life without dreams is black and white, and the universe flows in technicolor and surround-sound. Blaow!”

Farrah Abraham Topless Photo Commemorates Instagram Milestone, Cements Icon Status

Teen Mom OG star Farrah Abraham just reached a million followers on Instagram, and celebrated the only way she knows how:

By posing topless in bed with a “come hither” gaze.

On Sunday, October 22, the redhead took to Instagram to celebrate eclipsing the seven-figure mark on her Instagram fan total.

For some reason Farrah wants more plastic surgery; Abraham’s insane boobs and facial transformation are rather evident here.

She is wearing pasties – heart-shaped ones, totes adorbs – but very little else is left to the imagination in the hypnotic image.

About the only thing missing here is Abraham’s surgically enhanced butt, which remains covered up. Maybe for her next trick?

“1 million,” she captioned the stunning pic, and while she was still in the 999,000s at the time, Farrah since surpassed a mill.

This should help get her to two million real quick …

This post comes just days after a report surfaced that a second Farrah Abraham cam show will be coming your way just before Halloween.

The 26-year-old reality star’s inaugural live porn event with CamSoda was such a huge hit, she’s running it back and then some.

Farrah’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Simon Saran says she plans to “give 110%” for the show, as if she knows any other way.

Go hard or go home, as the old saying goes.

Asked why Farrah continues to do adult films despite the backlash from fellow MTV stars, Simon replied, “Because she likes it.”

“She does what she wants on her free time.”

Hard to argue with that, though her 1,000,000 fans sure have some strong opinions about what she does in her free and work time.

Wrote one disgusted fan on Insta: “Your daughter will be disgusted by you when she gets older and be embarrassed #shame.”

Wrote another: “Ur child is going to have so many issues with a mom like u. Putting this kind of image over the internet of ur self is horrible.”

“U need to teach her to respect herself and u. If I found stuff like this of my mother online. All respect for her is gone.”

Yet another added, “I agree that picture is disgusting, no mothers kids should see that. I personally wouldn’t want her to be the mother of my kids.”

Harsh.

Others came to her defense, at least in part, saying Farrah knows no other way: “DISGUSTING! she is the way she is BECAUSE of her parents!”

“They allowed her to tell them how everything would be instead of instilling in her that healthy fear that every child should have of their parents!”

Some Farrah followers defended her unabashedly: “Do what make u happy and dont regret thats all… if its real then i take u how u are….100%”

“And i always like how strong u are! dont give up!”

Another supporter of hers added, “I’m not understanding how her not wearing a top correlates with her being a bad mother.”

“You’re telling me as a mom none of you have been topless? women (moms especially) need to stop tearing others down.”

This school of thought was echoed by “Just because it’s not something you would do doesn’t mean she’s a bad parent.”

“I don’t think what she does is good [but] her daughter is well loved and taken care of. That’s what matters. Bye judgemental people.”

Said another Farrah defender, “So I don’t understand why people have to judge her life style and not other people who do this?”

It’s an interesting point of debate, for sure. Finally, other admirers reacted to an entirely different aspect of the eye-popping pic.

“Would love to get one night with you,” wrote one drooling commenter who may or may not be named Simon Saran.

Reema Lagoo Dies; Bollywood Icon Was 59 Years Old

The dark cloud of death is enveloping nearly all walks of the entertainment industry this week.

First, as previously reported, rock singer Chris Cornell committed suicide on Wednesday night after a performance in Detroit.

Then, we learned that Fox News Founder Roger Ailes had passed away due to complications from a blood clot.

And now we can confirm the sad news that famous Bollywood actress Reema Lagoo is also dead.

She was 59 years old.

The veteran actress passed away in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to multiple outlets.

The actress was best known for portraying the role of the mother of main characters in numerous Indian movies and soap operas.

She also acted in several Marathi language plays.

Among Lagoo’s most prominent roles were characters in such films as Aapke Hain Koun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Maine Pyar Kiya.

She kicked off her career in the late 1970s and rose to prominence for often acting alongside Salman Khan; almost always as his mother.

Monish Bahl, another frequent on-screen son and co-star, said the following upon learning of Lagoo’s passing:

I’ve worked with her quite a few times. Not just in Rajshri films, but in other films also. What can a person say (at this time). One says the same things over and over again about people and you meant it.

She was a wonderful person, a fine actress. It’s always been a pleasure to spend time with her on sets.

Added Alok Nath, who played Reema Lagoo’s husband, to Indian Express:

This is a horrible horrible news. I am just too sad to think about anything. She was such a fine actor to work with. This is very sad.

As you can see below, others who knew Lagoo well also took to Twitter to express their surprise and sadness:

NDTV reports that Lagoo’s last rites were held in Mumbai’s Oshiwara crematorium on Thursday afternoon.

Her funeral was attended by a multitude of former colleagues, many of of whom shared messages for her on social media.

Actor Aamir Khan visited Ms Lagoo’s family at home with his wife Kiran Rao and was later photographed at the sad gathering.

“This is very tragic. We are still in shock. She had no major ailment that we knew about,” Aamir told reporters about his co-star of films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Rangeela.

We send our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Reema Lagoo.

May she rest in peace.

Johnny Depp Wins Icon Award, Thanks Fans for Support

There haven"t been many positive headlines written about Johnny Depp over the past few months.

His recent divorce from Amber Heard followed accusations by the actress that Depp abused her, along with a video that featured a drunken Depp GOING OFF on Heard verbally.

There"s been a lot of ugly back-and-forth between the stars, and it"s all been made public.

But Depp remains quite popular in the eyes of that same public, as evidenced on Wednesday night when he won Favorite Movie Icon at the 2017 People"s Choice Awards.

“I came here for one reason tonight and one reason only," Depp said on stage, trophy in hand.

"I came here for you, the people, who through whatever good times or bad, you know, have stood by me, trusted me. Thank you.”

While the unseemly details of his marital split have been in the news for a long time, Depp himself has said very little about the situation.

He certainly didn"t mention it at the ceremony, simply adding:

"You’ve very, very graciously invited me here tonight. I appreciate that very much – you have no idea how much I appreciate it."

Depp was married Heard for 15 months before she filed for divorce last May and accused him of prolonged domestic abuse.
