Dance Moms Season 6 Episode 9 Recap: Nia Saves the Day?

On an explosive Dance Moms Season 6 Episode 9 last night on Lifetime, Brynn and Maddie were forced to go up against Kalani and Kendall.

Meanwhile, Ashlee fills in for Abby’s newly-fired office manager.

At the onset of Dance Moms Season 6 Episode 9, Abby gave two sets of students duets, but not everyone on the elite roster was loving it.

Not surprisingly for those who watch Dance Moms online, and know anything about Abby Lee Miller, she wasn’t afraid to ruffle feathers.

She gave Maddie Ziegler and Brynn Rumfallo a lyrical duet, while her “strongest dancers,” Kendall Vertes and Kalani Hilliker, got a jazz duo.

However, in rehearsals, Kalani suffered an injury and Nia Frazier stepped in to fill her spot. Meanwhile, Maddie and Brynn were flawless.

When the episode is titled “Nia Saves the Day,” you have some idea of how that’s going to go. But it didn’t look so promising early on.

Kendall and Nia were reduced to tears backstage as things looked dire just one day before the big performance she was asked to deliver.

“You didn’t let everyone down,” her mother told her, however, “I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. Of course I’m disappointed.”

“You’re a better dancer than what was onstage.”

Kendall’s mom, Jill Vertes, thanked Nia for stepping in, then unloade on Abby with her true feelings about the issue in the dressing room.

Basically, she felt that Miller sabotaged them.

“You win, Abby. That’s what you wanted to do. You wanted to humiliate the girls and you did,” Jill tells Abby. “It’s not fair to Kendall.”

“It’s not fair to Nia that you put that onstage.”

When Abby suggests that the mother-daughter duo “get over” it, Jill reminds Abby she is responsible for what she puts out into the world.

“I hope you’re happy with yourself,” Jill responds.

“She’s very happy with herself,” Kendall adds.

Jill notes that all students should have an equal chance to shine and “feel good about themselves,” while Abby isn’t buying that theory.

“I wasn’t put on this earth just to make your kid feel good,” Miller fires back. “I was put on this earth to teach her how to dance. Period.”

Damn. Abby later tells the cameras she thinks Jill has “lost her mind.” Would that be all the team is losing this week on Lifetime, hopefully?

At the ceremony, Nia and Kendall earned second place in the teen duo/trio division, while Maddie and Brynn took first in the junior division.
